What you're asking about is called a setup, and it should be done on any new guitar
You can do a setup on your current guitar, too
Buying a new guitar and expecting it to have a good setup out of the box, you will be disappointed
I just realized that were the strings and not some corner edge in the background ... So yes ...those are way too high
Check if the neck is straight first ..if so ... Probably have to go loose on the bridge piece and the nut with a file
you can find that on youtube ... usually by fretting the 1st and 12th fret and see if the string runs parallel to the fretboard or not
If youre not confident doing it yourself, take it to someone who knows how to
if you fret on the 1st and 12th, you should only see a little bit of space underneath the string
not quite enough to throw a really thin flatpick through
on a sidenote .. i still don't know why most acoustics don't have some sort of adjustable bridge
Gibson did that in the 60s, people hated it
they probably did it wrong 😉
Well did any acoustics do it right?
Technically yes but you will probably also widen it ... Which may lead to unwanted results
And you don't want to shorten the nut ... You want to make the nuts lots deeper
Can you post a picture of how the strings fit the nut now ?
I would suggest taking this to #guitars-repair-upgrade so you can get help from more folks
