I want to learn some songs on a 7 string but the original recording was with 6, i dont know how i should play or tune the strings

#

whats the tuning for the original

#

if its low (like b standard), you take the 2 to 7th strings of your 7string

#

and tune it accordingly

#

if its high (like e standard), you take the 1 to 6th strings

#

theres also the method of tuning 6/7 string to the same note of making riffs more powerful

#

but it only works best for 6 string tunings between B and E

#

ex. CCGCFAD (drop c with double low c)

#

ex2. DDADGBE (double drop D)

It's BEADGBE

you could tune to AEADGBE and get the lower power chords going in a drop tuning as well.

#

for standard, standard applies.

#

If you check out songs, that are down tuned, you will find, the tuning is all over the place.

#

In the end you want to play the same notes.
If you don't want to match the tuning and want a general answer: You'll have to figure it out on a song to song basis.
