Basically I want an amp that is less than 300 dollars that sounds good. I would prefer it without bells and whistles because I will be supplying my own pedals/ scarlet computer interface. I would really like an amp that works well with digital amp models and allows me to be creative with audio equipment like pedals.

Bedroom guitarist in my own home.

hmm what is that

valid hornet
#

Basically a powered speaker

brazen wolf
#

That is 400 dollars

#

more expensive that an amp

valid hornet
#

But you won’t need an amp would you?

brazen wolf
#

Well why not

#

No I don't actually know

valid hornet
brazen wolf
#

For loudness

#

I think

brazen wolf
#

Surely I can put an amp modeler in front of an amp

#

Right

velvet hornet
#

I run my quad cortex through the fx loop of my 5150, sounds good

brazen wolf
#

Okay

#

Do amps sound betterr than amp modeler

velvet hornet
brazen wolf
#

So why do people spend money on amps

#

There must be a reason

velvet hornet
#

Amp modelers are the cheapest way to get good tone

brazen wolf
#

Hmm, I would be playing in my bedroom

#

What do you recommend

velvet hornet
brazen wolf
#

My friend has some and I am trying to be diffeernt

#

I have a PA

#

Pyle pro

#

Something like this

valid hornet
#

I love my amp sims but I would love a physical amp aswell

velvet hornet
#

How come you haven't ran the amp sims though that?

valid hornet
#

They run axe fx

velvet hornet
#

Megadeth uses the quad cortex

But using something like a laptop and an interface and an amp sim adds extra parts increasing risk of failure

#

And not likely anything to happen

brazen wolf
#

I don't have an interface

rotund sierra
brazen wolf
#

Would get one

i think the issues are somewhat more likely to occur, computers can be dicky but it’s also less severe the majority of the time. if you blow your output transformer it’s goodnight for the gig, a blue screen is a 5 minute intermission

velvet hornet
#

That would work with your amp sim

brazen wolf
#

Sue

#

Sure

#

I thought PA was inferrior

#

It buzz a lot

velvet hornet
brazen wolf
#

Yeah

#

I have an overdrive pedal

#

and a chorus pedal

velvet hornet
brazen wolf
#

I touch the guitar it mostly stops buzzing

velvet hornet
#

Try just using it to listen to music. Connect it to your phone and see if it sounds good

brazen wolf
#

No bluetooth

velvet hornet
brazen wolf
#

Really

#

Oh

velvet hornet
#

If you play music through the PA and it sounds good, it'll sound good with your amp sims

velvet hornet
# brazen wolf Really

Normally a PA isn't meant to be a guitar amplifier, you don't plug the guitar directly into it. A PA is how an audience listens to the music. They normally put a microphone in front of a guitar amplifier, and then after that signal is processed, they sent it along with every other instrument to the PA

#

If you run an amp sim through it, it's removing the amplifier and the microphone from the equation, so all you have to do is just send that signal to the PA

velvet hornet
#

And then I just bought my brother a digital drum set, he sends his drum signal to the PA as well

#

And we both come out of the same speaker

#

It's more meant for the entire band to come out of

brazen wolf
#

Can you link me looking on amazon

velvet hornet
#

Or songs. You can just play songs through it

brazen wolf
#

I can only see on dsp stuff

velvet hornet
brazen wolf
#

Yeah

#

The quad crotex

velvet hornet
# brazen wolf The quad crotex

Oh that's going to be out of your budget. But you can use a focusrite scarlett solo and an amp sim on your PC for the same thing

brazen wolf
#

Its 1700 dollars

#

aah

#

Surely there is a cheaper option

#

For just an amp modeler

velvet hornet
#

You can get that same thousand dollar tone if you get the focusrite and a neutral dsp amp sim

#

What genre of music are you into

#

We can get you great tone with about $200

brazen wolf
#

Like folk

#

some rock

#

pop I guess

#

Go ahead mr fries and cod

velvet hornet
#

So get this for now

#

Do you have an instrument cable?

#
brazen wolf
#

I have a cable

#

So all I need is a plugin and a PA

#

thats it

velvet hornet
brazen wolf
#

Okee

#

Hmm

#

THis is like 50 dollars for me

#

45 + 10 shipping

#

Good price?

#

Right I need an interface

velvet hornet
brazen wolf
#

Hmm

worthy cape
#

So why not get a Catalyst, or Katana amp with built in effects? I scrolled, if it has been asked, or addressed forgive me. You can still use physical pedals with these too.

brazen wolf
#

Yeah that can also do the trick

#

But my idea is that its cheaper just to have a cabinet of speakers

raw parrot
#

What do you mean "cabinet of speakers"? I'm quite confused on what you're looking for, if you're going to play with an amp sim using an interface and a computer, just get speakers that hook up to the interface

#

Amp sims have been around for a long time. You can just look at YouTube videos, sample clips, etc and decide for yourself "how good"

#

I don't know what good it will do if one person says "yeah it sounds great" and another person says "yeah it sounds bad"
