so im trying to learn and cover a song but idk the tuning of it, can anyone help me?

ive already figured out the melody

but idk anything about it's tuning

this is in G

it really has no melody

it has that guitar riff that if you are playing that, you can hear you can play 3rd fret G on the E string as the lowest note here and sound fine

not sure what you are "covering", but if you mean, you want to play your guitar along with this recording.. you can do that in standard tuning

that will, in my opinion, be much harder and uncessary, compared to simply playing G, now, in standard tuning

if you are a "fan" of making your strings be exactly what this person is using

do that

you cannot be particular, and cheap tho

you'll invest time and money do that

and its uncessary to do a "cover"

but its your time and your experience. you get to do that

this is how i would be "covering" this in the next 20 minutes or so.

if you hear that and want to spend money or re-design your guitar, do that

you will need to actually do something, tho

you play it like this ^ on what you have

you spend money and purchase another guitar

or you re-work what you have

we can talk about any of these options. but you wont just magically pick up your guitar and have it playing a low G or becoming a different instrument without you doing something

if you play just the guitar part of that original recording? thats not a cover

thats just the guitar part

and i know, thats what folks do. play a guitar part along with a recording and call that a "cover"

but you can do that, and it'll sound like the song you are playing along to.

i promise, you can work on the playing and techniques here, in standard tuning

when you can play that music in standard tuning, playing it in whatever other tuning you end up with, or whatever other 7 or more string instrument.. that will be trivial to adapt at that point

i did 5,3,5,6 on the A string and then a slide to the 5 fret on the string above it

instead of thinking about it like a video game controller like that, you can think about the pitches you want to make

if you simply tune to D standard, the A string becomes that G you are looking for

i sadly can't do that anymore cus i cut off the strings to put new ones on only for the 12 gauges to not fit

ill have to go buy the usual set of strings when i can
