I'm a intermediate guitar player and am looking for my first tube head, preferabally something around 1000 however the 5150 100 watt ($2,450) is enticing. Im not sure what to get as i want something loud but not expensive. I mostly play metal with some of my favorite tones being from TOOL, Gojira, and Killswitch Engage. What should i get? Right now i'm looking at this which is around my budget and comes with a cab, should i save more and get an expensive one or go for the marshall/something else?

Get the 5150 stealth 50w
does it sound similar to the 100w?
The used market is full of inexpensive 5150’s
Since it’s the same amp 99% yeah
Forgot to come off symbols
The green and blue channel have shared eq
oh okay
If you look on marketplace can find good deals
And the evh 5150III are some of THE most versatile amps
whats the difference in the peavy 5150 and the evh 5150
The evh has really good cleans and a dedicated crunch channel (that can get pretty high gain usually when you hear a evh 5150 it’s the blue channel)
I much prefer the evh ones but the peaveys are just as good if you don’t need good clean
PLEASE if you go for a 50w make sure its one of the newer ones with the 2 stacked gain and volume knobs, I ended up with an older 5150 and my blue channel is practically unusable in live situations
this is what you should look for. 1 part of the knob controls the gain on the green channel, the other one the blue. Same thing for volume
How’s it unusable?
just the volume difference between your clean and crunch is gonna be nuts if you try to use both of them live
But if you dont care for the blue channel and just do green & red it's still a fantastic amp, love mine to death
Blue channel is the best imo
admittedly I haven't explored the blue channel a whole lot just because it's not viable for live settings
I was playing it a lil yesterday and it did sound pretty nice tho
It’s what’s most often used to 5150III really
True, which is why im bummed about the way they built the old 50w's I needed the green channel for our set at the time so blue just wasn't an option unfortunately
still, those other 2 channels on the 5150III's are spectacular
All 3 are
I mean good idea have you tried roll your guitar volume for clean @inland belfry
ehh i probably could but for metal i was after the crystal clean bright af metallica tones
also now i play with an SD Invader so that pickups basically all or nothing 😂
Ah ok nvm then lol have like a second 5150 they are cheap af used
True lol
I plan to get one down the line
I've converted to a helix now
Preferably the el34 (mostly cause looks)
I love tube amps but loading into a show with a guitar case and a backpack is so nice
Yeah I bet it is
Ngl if I get to that point doing shows like that then yeah I’ll probably get like a modeler but for now I want to get a 5150III (that’s still down the line)
