#Buying first electric guitar (and first ever guitar)

So, I'm on a budget, and I want to buy an electric guitar (located in the Middle East; for the amp, I chose a Scarlett Solo [3rd Gen]—refurbished). Any recommendations on guitars? Up until now, I was looking at a "Fender Squier Stratocaster" used for $215  because it was the cheapest I could find. If the guitar seems good enough, I will send the photos from it. (I also need a tuner, but I will buy it in my country.)
Thanks ahead!

#

Also I'm not playing metal if it matters

Did you think about what kinda squier? Theres affinity/classic vibe/bullet/sonic. Change a lot based on that

Says standard but im not sure what that is, maybe an old model?

Apparently squier standard are a thing, i just never seen them

jaunty dew
#

oh

cold nexus
#

On the back on the headstock it says CY14 so it should be made in 2014 if im not wrong on that

jaunty dew
#

quite old lol

cold nexus
#

Doesnt look beat up though

jaunty dew
#

should I go on that guitar ?

cold nexus
#

They want $215 for it?

jaunty dew
#

yeah, its pretty cheap in my country (at least from the places I looked at here)

#

I could also try to go lower

#

cant expect more then 40$ less probably

cold nexus
#

It seems like a fair price considering price of a new one

jaunty dew
#

Also, my friends try to keep me off from starting straight up at an electric guitar, they say its better to start at an acoustic guitar or smth

#

is it true?

cold nexus
#

Id say not in the slightest

#

Electric is generally smaller so less fighting the giant box, you get thinner strings easier on fingers and finger strength, plus depends what you like the look of

#

If you hate how acoustics look (like me) then its a nono, a guitar should inspire you to play

jaunty dew
#

this is also an option at used site

#

its around 120~ dollars

cold nexus
#

idk the brand so id stay away

Umm, @cold nexus so apparently the guitar is already sold, do you see something good? (the guitar I shows was 800)

#

(the one in the middle up is the one I showed)

#

could also find this but its more expensive https://www.ebay.com/itm/116102525022

#

some come with amps

cold nexus
#

Aww shame

#

Squier bullets arent generally the best, youd def need someone to set it up

#

At least

#

Squier telecaster seems good if you like that or yamaha makes good stuff

jaunty dew
#

?

cold nexus
#

I think just see which look good to you

#

I would kinda stay away from bullet squiers if possible

jaunty dew
jaunty dew
#

@cold nexus so should I order the guitar? it also says it comes with "Includes tremolo/ whammy bar"

cold nexus
jaunty dew
#

closes I could find in israel

cold nexus
#

ahh yee

#

shipping is oof

#

and import all that

jaunty dew
#

yeah, with this guitar it even is cheaper then with taxes from outside the country

cold nexus
#

i mean you can trust a squier

#

but def have it checked by someone or try to find a step by step setup check on youtube

#

its not super necessary but helps to have a guitar in great shape'

jaunty dew
#

oh yea

#

this all are options too, if you see something good

cold nexus
#

these are really good

#

but theyre shorter than a regular guitar

#

just color changes ye

jaunty dew
cold nexus
#

The one you showed i think is also good

#

i never had one of those but i think its a sonic and the whole sonic line is goated

jaunty dew
#

I'll just watch a video

#

Thanks for all the help up until now !

cold nexus
#

no problemm

jaunty dew
#

@cold nexus hey so ended up buying an Squier by Fender Sonic Strat HSS – Black, and an ibanez clip on tuner

#

how do I use the tuner?

cold nexus
#

I think your best choice is find a tutorial for the kind of tuner you have?

#

Pro tip is always tune up, idk how relevant it is lol

jaunty dew
cold nexus
#

Should

cold nexus
#

The legend goes that if you tune down the turny thingy can losen a little and put you out of tune cause the string is pulling more on it. If you turn up its already pulling

#

Logically it makes some sense but idk how precise the gears are

cold nexus
#

Nice

jaunty dew
#

Only happens on this string

#

Listen to the sound

cold nexus
#

Yeefret buzz so the string vibrating is barely hitting a fret

#

So you get to hear the buzz

jaunty dew
#

so is this normal?..

cold nexus
#

You can fix it if it bothers you but thats uh a bit more advanced unless you like tinkering and stuff

jaunty dew
#

thx

cold nexus
#

This is a very good guide i agree with

#

With how i was doing it and a good place to start i think

#

In your case its one string only so most likely its the action of that one string, but its good to know the whole thing just in case

jaunty dew
#

what do I follow lmao

cold nexus
#

Low e is the thick one

#

Low like the sound not like from ground up the way youre holding it

jaunty dew
#

i though the opposite

cold nexus
#

Common thing lol its ok

jaunty dew
cold nexus
#

I mean i dont think that was the issue, i would undo to have it the way it was before? I dont think it was bad since only one string had. The issue

jaunty dew
#

okay

cold nexus
#

Most likely you just had to adjust the action on the string saddle

#

Truss rod stuff can be weird, just never force it hard and youll be good tho

jaunty dew
#

yeahhh I think I fuxked it up even worse... I undid the truss rod, and it still is the same in the low e string and the one besides it

#

@cold nexus

cold nexus
#

Hmm i didnt think youd do truss rod stuff but uhh
You gotta move it little by little until you get it to a good spot like 1/8 to 1/4 turn and wait a little for wood to settle

#

And check with the string trick

#

Cauae its your straight edge

jaunty dew
#

okay

cold nexus
#

You want a slight bow to have space between the string and 12th fret when you press on 1st and last fret

jaunty dew
#

but thanks for the help !

cold nexus
#

No problem and good luck

jaunty dew

jaunty dew
#

@cold nexus been a while... so do you know what software and how to use the scarlett solo with the guitar

jaunty dew
cold nexus
#

uhhh guitar go into amp is how i do it

jaunty dew
cold nexus
#

i dont know tbh

jaunty dew
#

where should I ask this? #recording-and-software ?

cold nexus
#

there should be a channel for questions like that maybe
