Buddy Whittington - for those in the know he isn’t underrated I don’t guess but he needs to be more widely known and celebrated. An absolute MONSTER guitarist.
Alex Lifeson
Absolutely 👍🏼👍🏼
Larry LeLonde
Ty Tabor
👍🏼
And as for Ty Tabor, he was/is? guitarist for Kings X. His solo albums are killer as well.
I think Tommy Vetterli of Coroner deserves more appreciation. His stuff on both Mental Vortex and Grin is really, really nice.
Me
josh klinghoffer
Jake Bowen
Kee Marcello
me
Ykw I'll throw Jake E Lee in too
mario camarena
sentence of history
Malcolm Young of AC/DC
People focus on Angus a lot but Malcolm had really good rhythm
Mike Einziger from incubus
Wrote some really creative stuff that I think is very underrated
Chris Cornell, most people commend him for his singing, and yeah he has like the most beautiful voice of any grunge singer, but he had some amazing guitar skills too
I’ll add Mick Mars too
Nobody seems to really mention how good his riffs are
A great example of how good a guitarist is when they’re the only guitarist in the band
Slash
🤔
Mark Morton
buckethead
he has over 500 albums and im pretty sure basically no one digged through all of them
and dude can SHRED
Eh I wouldn’t say he’s underrated, plenty of people regard him as a really good guitarist
most of his work is unexplored his most played song soothsayer has only 20 million plays on spotify and everything else does not go above 10 million
but to be fair it's the same for other guitar legends like vai and its even lower for paul gilbert
satriani goes a little higher with 30 mil
Well that’s them beig more of underrated artists, not underrated guitarists
We’re not talking about how popular they are as a solo artists because then you can pretty much say a majority of solo artist guitarists are underrated because I don’t think the mainstream is really gonna enjoy their music too much
you are somewhat right but when someone says underrated guitarist they are also talking about the ones that belong to ultra mainstream platinium record billions of streams bands like guns n roses nirvana rhcp and so on and the numbers that they get are leagues above solo guitarists
Those are the bands not the guitarists
That’s why I said solo guitarists
Like guitarists as solo artists
Anyways I’m 99% sure when we say “underrated guitarists” in here we mean guitarists that aren’t really as recognized in the guitar world or just in general
Not like just from bands or as solo acts
So I can’t really say someone like SRV is underrated just because him and his band don’t have as much listeners as Guns n Roses
i personally consider my father's uncle's cousin's son to be way more skilled in any way imaginable than any of these guitarists. in fact he is so skilled i must limit the ammount of times i can listen to him per month or else my body will trascend to another state of being and leave this mortal plane. THAT'S how good he is. he also only lets a select number of people he handpicks to listen and he cannot record his work because the microphones realise their existence is mundane and lame and they end up setting themselves on fire. in fact his guitar was made out of the most exquisite materials there are with names so complicated my tongue would form a knot if i was to dare to pronounce them. There is no need for an amp the tone creates and amplifies itself out of the sheer respect it has for the man.
Not underrated but doesn't get enough fame, richie sambora
FR, people will say he is overrated, those are the same people who only listened to sweet child o mine and none other solos by him
no one can improvise better than slash
a small part of a 2 min outro
I dunno about that
Purely subjective
Ill change that to one of the best
me whenever slash touches a guitar:
I don’t think he’s the best but yeah I agree that he’s underrated in a way
People hate on him too much
I think it’s cause people associate him with 13 year old fanboys playing Sweet Child O Mine at Guitar Center that they just like to hate on him
Thing is many of the riffs and solos he wrote during that time was when he was basically an alcoholic and drug user
they are just overplayed not overrated
#guitarshred #slash #slashguitarsolo #slashgnr #gunsnroses #shorts #rockshockproductions

Yes, While I don't think he was a good fit for RHCP, his guitar and musical skills were well on display in the albums he recorded with them, i feel like he has insane potential
he's good, just look to his solo stuff and even his fts with john. People just hate on him cause he ain't no john, but this is not fair to ask to the man to be a carbon copy of another artist lol

Daniel Johns is underrated but silverchair is overrated
jimi hendrix
Scott Putesky a.k.a. Daisy Berkowitz

Jeff Hanneman, Slayer has shit solos but Jeff wrote some really good riffs
Zacky from a7x, everyone overlooks him with syn and he is soooo good
I think Jake E. Lee probably could deserve some more recognition
mike clark or rocky george from suicidal tendencies
Brad delson from linkin park and wes borland from limp bizkit
Kevin shields, bro did some crazy stuff with mbv
Wes Borland
andreas gutjahr
Kim Thayil for sure
Jerry cantrell is pretty underrated

super underated
Synyster Gates
Absolutely. Mans is a MONSTER
No, he’s already universally accepted as being a guitar god
Lindsay Buckingham

Brad Turcotte/ Brad Sucks is extremly underrated
I've been listening Sea Change by Beck and his guitar work on that is pretty awesome, I never really appreciated how much finesse he can wrangle
I really like Elliot Easton from The Cars. His solos are pretty short but they're really well written. Check out the solo on Shake it up, and the one at the end of Dangerous Type (live version on Midnight Special)

Mark Knopfler no one really iknows him anymore except his work on sultans of swing and other dire straits hits most of the time i get " Is ThAt ThE gUy FrOm FArTnItE"
Mark Knopfler is in Fortnite?
why would they think that
cause its gen alpha
idk, but Brian May
hes kinda overrated
he is
billy corgan is kinda known depending on who you are talking too.
Kurt Cobain's playing on bleach is actually pretty good
Brandon Hagen
i agree completely. He's not at all technical with his playing, but he's extremely creative and intuitive.
I think he just didn't know how to barre lol
Barre his index I mean
He Barres his ring finger to play power chords and has the worst fucking hand position
It hurts my left hand to watch him play
He sings over fast riffs on bleach
Mr moustache for example
I didn't like bleach as a kid but it's grown on me completely and I love it now
thats how i do power chords except I use my pinky instead of ring finger
Wow your pinky?
i dont find it uncomfortable, it makes chord changes a bit faster
yeah
Cool
If that works for you
Go for it
Sometimes I bar with ring
Sometimes use ring and pinky with no bar
yes, it takes a lot of skill to do that. I never learned how to play & sing at the same time
its way harder than it looks
Robert Fripp
Lari Basilio
Matteo Mancuso
Buckethead
Me
me
Mark Holcomb
I feel like he is perfectly rated if not overrated.
jack me off joe
I have one for you.
I'm probably still too new to post in the “other song suggestions” channel, so I'll use this one, I hope that's ok.
Underrated because few people know him: Dylan Fowler.
A guitarist from Wales who played with Dominic Miller in 1980, among others.
(Dominic Miller now Playin with Sting)
I saw him around 2002 when he played his album “ffynnon ofor”.
I was very young at the time, but I still haven't forgotten the soundscapes he created.
Recently videos have appeared on You tube that show very clearly how he creates his sound.
I would like to start with his own composition:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW7zbcYyJdg
He has created an interpretation of the song Albatross, which for me is just as good as Steve Wonder's Superstition as Jeff Back's Superstition.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaxYJYiyGIc
Finally, I would like to present another of his own compositions, which for me brings out Fowler's sound and style beautifully.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p645BHG2B0w
I would like to recommend everyone who is just as enthusiastic about the music so far to listen to the album “ffynnon ofor” - that's hot shit

Jack white or Josh Homme
Josh Homme is sick
Jim Campilongo is underrated. As was Roy Buchanan (RIP). I guess I should say they are both highly regarded by people familiar with them but they are both “under exposed”.
Real
Daniel Krauss of Admiral Angry
i feel like eddie hazel is a bit underrated
Jason Becker
I saw him a few months ago, checked that one off my bucket list
😏 pun intended
hahahaha
my wife made a bucket head puppet, we managed to get near the stage entrance and because of the puppet she snagged some kinetic sand from the sack.
That was when he was playing with Madeline, and I can't remember the name of the bass player but he was out of this world. We managed to get the puppet to the bass player so hopefully someone somewhere was given that from the sack
Ritchie Blackmore and Gary Moore
Tony iommi

Andy LaRocque
Andrew Latimer

Ozzy osbourn
Leslie west
bruce bouillet, from racer x. he played along side paul gilbert and could basically match paul's speed and energy. he seems to be peacefully jamming in his home studio these days so it looks like his life is good without super stardom

Ozzy osbourn

masayoshi takanaka
kurt is kind of an overrated guitarist
in my opinion

John Mayer
ty tabor
Sam Vallen
Mick mars ofc
jason becker, he couldve gone mainstream if he wasnt hit with ALS and was able to perform alongside DLR. i feel like jason's playing (on the DLR demos) sound way cooler vs steve vai's

Glenn is def a god tier guitarist. He showed so much development and evolution in his playing skills, over the decades. My favorite guitar solo of his is from "all guns blazing"
Jesse welles
kurt cobain or jimi hendrix
top 10 worst opinions ever
kurt cobain is NOT a skilled guitarist at all and jimi hendrix is not underrated at all
Hendrix is kinda underrated nowadays when most people would rate zakk wyld or john petrucci as their top
yeah but when your playing inspired as much as his did
thats not underrated
zakk wylde's popular but i rarely hear mfs say hes their fave. nowadays i feel like dimebag and tim henson are the favorites, and some others too
Calle Thomér
i doubt that was a joke ngl
people have some peak dumbass opinions
even if that was a joke there are people who think kurt cobain is underrated
whether hes underrated or overrated, idc, but even if kurt played simpler stuff, he at least played stuff that sounded good. cant say the same for kirk hammet's stuff
his guitar solos are as annoying as my bitchy, egotistically attitude
i mean
it fit the music
people fanboy over him
everrryyy single minute of the day
thats not underrated 😭
fair lol
dudes hot and he made some catchy stuff and he also killed hair metal. i dont think its ultra ultra glaze worthy

Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner
glenn is very underrated
i need to listen to more of richie faulkner
but i liked organas rage
Richie Faulkner is my favourite guitarist, I love his guitars, his playing style, he really just does everything I want to know how to do on guitar
Low-key I kinda want a Richie Faulkner signature Flying V someday
his guitars r awesome tbh
Absolutely, his blue Flying V is my favourite
flying v, explorer and LP from him are cool
Epiphone and Gibson need to take advantage of this all, we need an epiphone version of the blue Flying V for like 1200 Canadian
If they don’t come out with that for a long enough time, I’ll build it myself
awesome
Jeff Loomis, Michael Romeo, Steve Hackett, Paul Waggoner
Jeff Waters
Thomas Raggi from Måneskin
real
Keith urban
i played a v for the first time today
looks so sexy
but an absolute NIGHTMARE

Steve Lukather is one of the greatest guitarist ever. Hes been on some of the greatest songs the world has seen you might not know his name, but youve heard his guitar playing...
guitarist of the toto and michael jackson
idk if im spelling this right but his solo on “rosanne” is great
it is
beat it riffs + hold the line Solo
and he also did many other great songs
and i like the various layers of his guitar tracks in “beat it” by michael jackson
like theres some subtle palm mute stuff in there iirc
Issaiah Mitchell from earthless is incredible
thank you for shedding come light on the number 1 issue facing our society today. Steve lukather is CRIMINALLY underatted
