is there anything wrong with this? im looking to pickup a new guitar (and maybe amp) tomorrow. i love the look and i like how it has a matt finish (i kinda hate glossy). i love strats and im going for more of a trebly sound here.

if not, any suggestions for anything that fits that description? most important thing is that its NOT a les paul... i HATE those things (they are REALLY heavy and all on the body)

nocturne kraken
#

It’s decent for the price

jovial swallow
#

all i needed to hear thanks!

nocturne kraken
#

Just make sure it’s set up whe n you get it

#

Or bring it for a setup to your luthier

#

Or the shop itself

jovial swallow
#

i can prob figure it out, i run a side business repairing and restoring vintage electronics. i specalize in microsoldering

#

or is it a hard thing to do? do i need special tools?

nocturne kraken
#

Intonation, neck relief, string height

#

It’s tricky for a beginner

#

And fret sprout if there is any

jovial swallow
#

is this something i need to do reguarly? i mean i been playing for like 7 years now i think but i never did anything like that

nocturne kraken
jovial swallow
#

i been using a rlly cheap electric and acoustic up until this point, but i have had access to a really nice fender while with my band

jovial swallow
#

what amp do you recommend if i wanted to go for a more crush40 sound?

#

jun sunoe esk

nocturne kraken
jovial swallow
#

preferably under 200 tbh

nocturne kraken
#

Hm

jovial swallow
#

HOWEVER

nocturne kraken
#

Idk tbh

jovial swallow
#

i dont want a big amp like 10 inch max

nocturne kraken
#

If you like the sound of an Orange - get an orange

nocturne kraken
jovial swallow
#

i might be willing to do a bit more price wise for something that is usb

jovial swallow
#

i would love something that can do midi if thats a thing?

jovial swallow
#

i wanted a dg-20 for a while

#

let me google the orange hold on

nocturne kraken
#

Yeah you gotta ask someone else about the amps

nocturne kraken
jovial swallow
#

its a bit bassy

#

but maybe its how they got it setup

#

oh i should have specified

#

crush40 is a band

#

seems like crush is a model of orange and i see how the mixup happened

nocturne kraken
nocturne kraken
#

Lmfao

jovial swallow
#

yeah haha

#

this kinda sound

nocturne kraken
#

Yeah I remember that song

#

I am all of me tho

jovial swallow
#

i have a vox cambridge 15 but uh

#

the input jack is all sorta of wrecked and it takes a special jack that i cant source a replacement for

#

i asked here a long time ago and nobody could find one

nocturne kraken
#

Boss katana 50 is the most versatile thing you can get

#

See if your local Guitarcenter has them

jovial swallow
#

that sounds nice

#

i hope i mean i am from detroit haha

#

we got a ton of music shit here

nocturne kraken
jovial swallow
#

do you know anything about octave pedals

nocturne kraken
jovial swallow
#

i just wanted a simple one that did the job

nocturne kraken
jovial swallow
#

more of sounding like a trebly bass guitar when i needed it

jovial swallow
#

dang

nocturne kraken
#

For this it usually sounds ass

jovial swallow
#

i like how clean sounding that amp you recommended is

#

and trebley

#

thanks

nocturne kraken
#

I mean you could try a digitech drop

#

But idk how good it is for that kinda thing

jovial swallow
#

i mean im not opposed to getting a bass

#

but again i want more of a trebly sound

#

i like this sound

#

is that more of the bass or the amps doing though??

spark epoch
jovial swallow
#

ah oki

spark epoch
#

The guitar equivalent would just be tossing a compressor in front and turning your tone knob up

#

ie every instagram guitarist

jovial swallow
#

i dont use insta but i can already picture that haha

jovial swallow
#

well thanks guys ill look to pickup both that guitar and amp combo

spark epoch
#

The katana is about the best you can possible get below $400 or so, its all around fantastic

jovial swallow
#

oh i just noticed it dosent have a whammy bar thats unfortunate

spark epoch
#

If youve been playing for more than a year or so I'm not sure why you'd be looking at a GRG honestly

#

It will function, but there is literally no guitar on the market that you could really consider it an 'upgrade' to

jovial swallow
#

i doubt that

#

im using a 60$ guitar center electic

spark epoch
#

It's Ibby's answer to the bullet

jovial swallow
#

im one of those people who dosent see the point in spending over 300 on a instrument tbh, same with like shoes and cars.

#

if it sounds good to me idc

spark epoch
jovial swallow
#

well i dont care about that

spark epoch
#

300 is scratching the bottom of the barrel of beginner

#

Just go used then

#

you'll get about 50%+ value for money used

#

and if you know electronics theres basically nothing you'll be unable to fix real quick (as long as you avoid active pickups)

jovial swallow
#

im not opposed to used but i want to pickup something tomorrow tbh i waited so long as it is

#

ill see what guitar center has used

#

i doubt ill find anything that looks like that and is matt

#

i wont buy a glossy guitar

spark epoch
#

Schecter will probably have some

#

they usually have a bunch of matte black models

jovial swallow
#

do you know the going price?

#

for both the amp and guitar together max budget is 500

spark epoch
#

the katana will hit like 250 or so depending on state tax and any ongoing deals

jovial swallow
#

the ibanez and the boss katana fit in 500

spark epoch
#

schecter is just a brand, anywhere from 200 - 5000

jovial swallow
#

ill look at a few hold on

spark epoch
#

I think their equivalent model would be named something like Damien or Omen

jovial swallow
#

?

spark epoch
#

I'm actually more of an ibanez fan myself, but Schecters tend to get a bit more bang for the buck at very low price points and pop up used more often

#

Ah yup that's one

jovial swallow
#

thats one wacky guitar with how its strung haha

#

kinda cool though

spark epoch
#

What's wrong with it?

jovial swallow
#

nothing

#

its just unusual

spark epoch
#

oh the part past the bridge?

jovial swallow
#

yeah

spark epoch
#

guess they went for style points

jovial swallow
#

let me look at a few more

spark epoch
#

im sure its in the marketing materials as some super secret intonation improvement

jovial swallow
#

whats the extreme?

spark epoch
#

They'll all probably sound about the same

jovial swallow
#

it has a whammy bar so thats a plus

spark epoch
jovial swallow
#

this one looks cool

spark epoch
#

it looks really slim, which is nice

#

almost similiar to a Sabre

jovial swallow
#

i would pay some money for one guitar if i ever got the chance

#

its that one sonic guitar i see a few people have

spark epoch
#

go figure

jovial swallow
#

as in a good or bad thing

spark epoch
#

guitar center sucks at pricing used

#

that should probabyl be about $100 more expensive at least

jovial swallow
#

so a good thing

#

maybe ill get it then

#

is their used stuff already setup?

#

i hope so

jovial swallow
#

found out why

spark epoch
jovial swallow
#

im very ocd

spark epoch
#

condition doesn't knock guitars in this bracket much

spark epoch
spark epoch
jovial swallow
#

i used to play one in my band and it was meh anyway

spark epoch
#

you're not getting a guitar setup ahead of time for <$2k probably

jovial swallow
#

i hate les pauls the most though

#

ew

spark epoch
#

but you can usually negotiate it into a purchase with some luck

jovial swallow
#

i used to know someone who works there

#

i wonder if he can hook me up

spark epoch
#

honestly if its a fixed bridge you can set it up yourself

#

very easy

#

it's only a pita with a floating bridge

#

usually just need some allen keys

jovial swallow
#

my local store has no matt ones used

#

i have plenty of hex drivers

jovial swallow
#

any other possible brands to look for

#

both my local stores no bueno

spark epoch
#

you probably wont like the aesthetic, but gretsch has some very nice and fairly inexpensive electrics

#

i think they're called streamliners or jets

#

otherwise Cort, Squier if you like Fender

jovial swallow
#

oh i found a 7 string Schecter but i dont think i would like 7 string

spark epoch
#

PRS SE can be hit or miss but I doubt they'll do matte

jovial swallow
#

is the 7th string before low E or after high E?

#

damn this one has 8

jovial swallow
#

actually might hate the look more then a les paul

jovial swallow
#

i mean this is the current guitar situation i cant do much worse

#

if that ibanez is anything better than that thing i dont really care

spark epoch
#

Well personally no lmao

#

but for ESP in general yes

#

Actually that is suspiciously inexpensive for them

jovial swallow
#

it looks so AWESOME

spark epoch
#

tbh i would not trust that ad/price

jovial swallow
#

god its so expensive but i want it

#

its a preorder

spark epoch
#

ESP's factory E-ii brand usually starts at around $2.5k and goes up to about 3.5k

#

so a bit odd for a collab special model to be priced lower than their most basic off the shelf stuff

#

and the last sonic/shadow models cost about $6k

jovial swallow
#

?

spark epoch
jovial swallow
#

they are all 1800 on ebay

spark epoch
#

the one you just linked isn'tthe same

#

it's a korean model

jovial swallow
#

well i didnt notice tbh and if it looks the same i dont rlly care since its cheaper

spark epoch
#

You should, but your call

#

$2k for a japanese guitar is pretty normal, $2k for korean is comically overpriced

#

like comparing a toyota to a lexus

jovial swallow
#

i keep stressing that i dont care about sound or all the bells/whistles like most people care about. as long as it sounds good i dont really care

#

not talking about this sonic one but in general

#

i genuinely dont see the point in a 1000 dollar guitar its silly to me personally if i dont care about it

#

i understand for others it matters but for me i dont care

spark epoch
#

Because the only reason anyone says that is they don't actually understand what money buys you, so we tend to just ignore it

spark epoch
#

a $3000 usually comes with the same pickups as your run of the mill $500 model

#

its going to sound 99.99% the same

#

you say you want a whammy bar, cool

jovial swallow
#

what does it have to do with then? name brand?

#

youre not explaining this important information to me

spark epoch
#

A decent bridge, just the system by itself without install or anything, costs ~250-300 usd

#

You're paying for material quality

#

particularly metals

#

It depends what band your jumping from ofc

#

going from $200-500 is an enormous leap in quality

#

500-1000 is significant but less so

#

and as you get higher it turns more into just aesthetics

jovial swallow
#

quality in terms of what? wear?

spark epoch
jovial swallow
#

well i mean im not going to be using it all that much tbf

#

but i would like it

spark epoch
#

Even having it at all

#

reduces stability massively

#

it fundamentally changes the structure of the instrument

#

it's an entire system that affects everything from tuners -> nut -> bridge -> springs on the back

jovial swallow
#

ok i understand this now

#

if im just using this has a hobby though at home im not using it to preform or anything does it rlly matter?

spark epoch
#

That's not a question I can answer

jovial swallow
#

i dont need a professional grade instrument basically

spark epoch
#

Personally, I would be deeply unhappy needing to play an unstable instrument

#

Just avoid floating bridges unless you're ready to move ot the midgrade market

spark epoch
jovial swallow
#

floating is in a gibson style?

spark epoch
#

hold on

#

this is a standard tremolo system

jovial swallow
#

ah okay

spark epoch
#

bridge with a recessed cavity to provide room, then you have locking tuners and a locking nut

#

on the back there's springs counteracting the tension of the strings

jovial swallow
#

thats sounds like a hassle

spark epoch
#

These need to stay in perfect balance, so the guitar cannot be retuned without a full setup

#

If a string snaps, game over

jovial swallow
#

i take it they need frequent adjustment?

spark epoch
#

The ones youre looking at, yes

#

this one no

#

I tune it once a year if that

jovial swallow
#

i mean in terms of setup

#

not tuning

spark epoch
#

The ones you're looking at yes, this one no

#

Everytime you touch the whammy bar on one of those it's going ot go very slightly out of tune

#

and this will propagate

jovial swallow
#

i dont care about tuning a guitar once every 2h for example but i dont want to have a guitar fully setup every month

spark epoch
#

because remember that tuning is a function of tension

#

what's really happening is the tension is slipping, and that will propagate across all the other strings as well

spark epoch
#

it might sound ok if you're playing at the first fret

#

but your intonation will actually be screwed

#

and the moment you start moving up the neck you'll note that your chords are dissonant and notes are slightly off in a different way on every string

#

and everytime you try to fix one, it will send the others further out of tune

#

Just avoid floating bridges unless you're ready to spend a lot more

#

there's almost no benefit

#

it might be fun fo ra few seconds, but it's going to torture you constantly

#

also keep in mind, you CANNOT change tunings on the fly with one

#

so ie, you cannot change from standard to Drop d and back

#

you need to just go get a different guitar, or go through the full process of balancing the springs again

#

Generally with trems, you want to have at least one guitar for each tuning you play in

jovial swallow
#

oh you mean in terms of floating bridges

#

i dont care about the bridge style

#

so yeah ill just avoid it

#

thanks for all the advice though i rlly appreciate it!!

#

ill look and see what i can find used tomorrow and if i cant find anything i like ill prob resort to that ibanez tbh

nocturne kraken
nocturne kraken

I almost bought one but 21 fret was a deal breaker

jovial swallow
#

I'm on my way rn!

jovial swallow
#

End result

jovial swallow
#

I got that boss katana and this is so much fun!

Thank you for looking! Feel free to ask for more details. Also, please carefully read our shop policy below the guitar description!  ----------------------------------The first collaboration guitar with SONIC THE HEDGEHOG was released in 2011 for SONIC's 20th anniversary. Then in 2016, for ...

#

This one is $1300 instead of $2000

jovial swallow
#

The low E string is hitting the first fret when played open

#

What would I adjust to fix this?

#

Otherwise it plays great

#

Bullet station from sonic heroes

#

So looking into it it's a bridge adjustment, is the two hex setscrews correct?

jovial swallow
#

It's the nut. The groove is too deep... Great I guess it goes back

jovial swallow
#

I always have issues when buying things in kinda used to it ...

#

If they don't have a replacement I'll just get that ibanez shipped to them and have them deal with any issues

#

They don't have it in store

#

Is guitar center open on easter

strong solar
#

You could also get them to fix the problem on your guitar if you’d want

strong solar
#

Probably not

jovial swallow
#

Eh it's not worth it it's a brand new guitar

#

I shouldn't have to worry about a nut repair on a new guitar

strong solar
#

I dont think low end jackson is that good

jovial swallow
#

I heard the opposite ironically

strong solar
#

You should consider a used ibanez RG421, ive heard its a good guitar

strong solar
jovial swallow
#

Yeah everyone in there was telling me to get the Jackson

jovial swallow
#

250 is my limit

strong solar

Maybe you got unlucky

Alright

Good luck

jovial swallow

This amp really impresses me that was a great recommendation!

nocturne kraken

JS22 are pretty good

agile sonnet
#

Low end Jackson is dog

#

X series is acceptable but isn’t worth the money imo

#

Js22 and 32 and pretty crap

nocturne kraken
#

JS22 are decent

#

They don’t have a floyd but a 2 point trem

#

Which is better than an fr special

jovial swallow
#

The nut was bad, they messed with the truss rod for a bit thinking the neck was bowed but it wasn't.

They marked the Ibanez and the 3 year accidental warranty on it down to the same price as that jackson and it's on its way. They had to ship it

jovial swallow
#

I love it a LOT! I'm really glad I bought it anyways I'm really happy with my purchase
