I've been using an okayish 5w amp for a few years now. The problem is that it has only two channels and I need more tones. I also play live occasionally and its always a nightmare. So... should I get the katana or should I get the pod hd500x and use it with the 5w amp?

helppp

meager magnet
#

Get an mk2

#

The multi fx unit will sound like a toaster through the 5w amp

keen narwhal
#

if you want to invest abi tmore money

#

get a line 6 pod with a frfr speaker

#

it can be good for gigging

indigo reef
#

alr i'll check em out

indigo reef
#

cuz im getting a killer deal for the hd500x

meager magnet
#

How much

#

I’d definitely still say the katana is better

keen narwhal
#

you need an frfr speaker

#

like a headrush

#

headrush 112

meager magnet
#

What’s an FRFR speaker? Just an active cab?

atomic mauve
#

Full flat speaker

atomic mauve
#

5 watt isnt enough with a drum

#

I prefer multi fx's as most places have their own foh speakers that we all can connect

keen narwhal
#

pa speakers

keen narwhal
#

with multifx theres alot more u can do but

#

if you want simplicity

#

go for the katana

#

but id go for the multi fx if you wanna stomp and stuff

#

def better for playing live imo

#

will be better in the long term i think

atomic mauve
#

I guess katana can also be connected to speakers canceling its own speaker

#

But multi fx is way more compact so

#

For the small gigs, i have a fender acoustasonic 15 amp for my electro classical, i use that

keen narwhal
#

yea

#

I think with the multi fx tho itll be better for live

#

u wouldnt ahve to buy a separate footswitch

#

like u would have to do with the katana

#

and u wouldnt have to get a separate expression pedal too

#

i dont think u can attach footswitches to the 50 mk2

#

could be wrong tho

atomic mauve
keen narwhal
#

and not as many foot switches

atomic mauve
#

There was somethjng named katair or something if im not wrong

keen narwhal
#

this?

atomic mauve
#

Not that i guess

keen narwhal
#

the boss katana air?

atomic mauve
#

Nah it was just a 3 buttoned footswitch but i forgot what the name was

#

Nvm

#

Just get a multi fx with decent modeling and irs

keen narwhal
#

the airstep i think

atomic mauve
#

Mg30 for example

keen narwhal
#

The mg30 is pretty good actually

midnight spire
keen narwhal
#

if you invest in an mg30 and invest in a frfr speaker you can get pretty decent tones

midnight spire
#

won't connect to a speaker cab directly

atomic mauve
#

Doesnt it just cancels its own speaker when something is connected via the phones port

midnight spire
#

if you want native footswitch support and speaker cab connectivity you'd need a 50 mk 2 EX or 100 mk 2

keen narwhal
#

for me the final answer for this guys question is

midnight spire
keen narwhal
#

get the line 6 pod, get an frfr speaker

midnight spire
#

it won't be enough to drive proper speakers

keen narwhal
#

If you want a decently priced frfr speaker

atomic mauve
keen narwhal
#

id recomment the FRFR-108

#

if you want cheaper go for the nux pa50

midnight spire
#

imo the 100 is worth the price, especially used

#

you can get them for around the same price as a new katana 50

#

slightly better speaker, 8 channels, can connect to a speaker cab, GA/FC-EX support

#

you have have two wired up together for stereo

atomic mauve
#

I just prefer putting the processor and its adapter to the gigbag and thats all

keen narwhal
#

yup

#

i think for convenience go for the multi fx

#

plus youd have to spend more money on footswitches

#

and maybe a expression pedal if u need one

balmy pond
#

The katana 50 is better (in my opinion because I have it and it fucking rocks)

keen narwhal
#

convenience wise and versatility wise

#

go for the pod

#

if you just want simplicity

#

go for the katana

#

not saying pod is hard to navigate

meager magnet
keen narwhal
#

smaller than an amp yes

#

if we're talkiung like

#

the boss katana

#

a little bit smaller

meager magnet
#

Are they good for volume? They loud enough to play a small gig with?

keen narwhal
#

yes

#

theyre basically just PA speakers

meager magnet
#

Oh okay

#

I’m thinking about going the multi FX route myself that’s all

keen narwhal
#

Ah i see

#

In my opinion its worth it

meager magnet
#

I’ve seen the valeton GP-200

keen narwhal
#

Easier to bring, portable

#

Valeton GP200 is pretty good

meager magnet
#

Like I’m thinking about bringing all the stuff I have to college

#

Well no

#

I mean speaker + board

#

That’s surely easier than any thing else right

keen narwhal
#

Yeah

#

Plus if the gig youre going to already has PA speakers

#

you probably wont need to bring a speaker

#

just the unit

meager magnet
#

I’m thinking seriously about this now

#

Because there’s a venue my band has a chance to play at which is great, and they have PA

keen narwhal
#

Mhm, no need to mic up or anything

#

just plug and play

meager magnet
#

And I wouldn’t have to lug a 2x12 with me and a head

keen narwhal
#

Yup

meager magnet
#

Oh my god I’ve just had a like moment of enlightenment

keen narwhal
#

You can get alot of amps on a multi fx too

#

so if you wanna play around with sound

#

its very versatile

#

im pretty sure the gp200 also has a fx loop

#

so if you wanted to you could plug ur own pedals to it aswell

meager magnet
#

Yeah totally

#

Okay, I’m gonna make my own thread about this, thanks

keen narwhal
#

yw

indigo reef
meager magnet
#

What amp actually is it though

indigo reef
#

and if i buy the multifx I'll have to use it with this amp for some while

#

for home practice and stuff

#

idk what to do

indigo reef
#

all I can say about it is that it works

keen narwhal
#

If that is the case rn

#

I would highly suggest saving up a little more

#

but

#

If the plcae you gig at

#

does have a PA

#

you can connect the multi fx to it
