the boss katana comes with an interface.
you can always get amp sims later on and use them with the katana.

You can use free amp sims with it to start with.
But you also get the amp, with all the effects and usage possibilities.
12" speaker, boss tone studio, easy plug and play.

I'd think about what I'd need.
If it's certain that it's just home studio, an interface might be the more cost efficient solution.
Besides focusrite, I'd have a look at the universal audio volts, Audient IDs,
Behringer UMC202HD / 204HD and 404HD.
Some of them offering more for less money.

Amp sim

#

a katana's interface isn't gonig to work the same as a dedicated amp sim

#

it won't sound the same with an amp sim software

#

because the katana's amp itself will be affecting your sound under your sim

#

the primary reason for the Katana's interface is to record the katanas tone itself

# foggy bane you can use amp sims with a katana?

you can apply amp sims on any signal.
it's a plugin.
The question is, how do you get the analog guitar signal into a digital one, so a plugin can process it?
You need an DAC digital-analog-converter.
It's in an audio interface and also in the katana.
You need to install the ASIOdrivers from the manufacturers website and can use the signal within your digital realm.
However, ASIO forces you to use the same DAC, when you convert the digital signal back to analog. So you'd need to use the katana's speaker or headphones, that are plugged into the katana.

#

sure you can use the interface onto a daw

#

but when you send it back out

#

the signal will be affected by the amps eq

#

unless theres a way to bypass that and make it go through the power amp in

fickle wave
#

Yeah I’ve done that with my katana

fickle wave
foggy bane
#

how do you run it thru post?

fickle wave
fickle wave

#

you have two usb connection-points. primary and secondary.

#

you can use the katana's preamp, but you can also bypass it.
