#Ibanez RGA42HPT

I don’t know much about trems really - just know what’s good and what isn’t
Idk anything about replacing them
curious on why the replacement of the trem
If it’s what I’m seeing correctly- it’s a regular Ibanez double locking. These are the lowest of the low. It’s not made of a durable material so it won’t hold tuning anywhere near as good as it should. At the price point, there’s much better options
For Ibanez trems its lowest of the low
And at this price point you can get charvels that come equipped with Floyd Rose 1000s, which are made of stainless steel I believe and are MUCH better than a licensed or DL Ibanez trem
Getting a cheap trem will fuck up the whole playability - you’ll be tuning more than playing if you use the trem
If you aren’t gonna use the trem I’m pretty sure they do a version of this but hard tailed
If you want a trem I’d suggest a different model because upgrades are gonna cost a lot more money on top of the guitar
Charvel and the EVH guitars have a fr1000
EVH have one that’s “EVH branded” on the frankenstrat and bumblebee replicas but it’s just a FR1000 with “EVH” on it I think
They’d be a good point to look at
After a quick check I found these. Couple are similar but all same price range but much better spec wise!
I found the gold one as the guitar you said you liked first was blue and gold, and a couple other blue ones but the sunbursts a totally new idea
Let me know what you think
How much are you paying for the HPT?
If it’s like
400 then upgrade the trem on it
I bought it already
and only payed 350 after some more lowballing
so i will be upgrading the trem/bridge idk what to call it exactly and replace it with a gotoh
it seems like good quality after upgrading that specific part though
not sure on what block length is required though
@abstract badge if you have any idea or like knowledge im all ears, i love little projects like this.
Holy shit. Steal and a half, what’s the condition like?
brand new
I’ve not replaced trems myself but I know what to buy n stuff to do it
Just don’t have money 💀
Hahah good stuff
well basically i just work and go to school full time/parents = no housing expenses
but yeah i want to upgrade the trem
and i believe after looking at forums that the ge1996 t is compatable to drop in
I’m quite sure that Ibanez base their hardware off some of the goto stuff. I know they build their tuners to spec with Gotoh similarities
It’s a good replacement
Cheap as well
i hear alot about gotoh on forums for it being nice quality for pric e
Don’t have to fuck around with routing and shit
Some people prefer them to Floyds and the like
exactly why i want to get one
i hear floyds are only good above like the 1000 model
also they seem way more expensive for simple hardware
Yes totally
Fucking ridiculous to me that you’re able to buy a trem separately and put it in to upgrade in a guitar that’s a bit lesser quality on the trem side and get a better guitar in the end all because you pay for floyd rose branding
The gotoh is a great trem
The knife edges and saddles are made of hardened steel
Like
Another thing Jackson’s are a bit of a rip off - 600 and you get a floyd rose special
You’re better off saving the hundred and getting a charvel
Anyway rant over
I think what you’re doing is a great option
Are you gonna put it in yourself?
@coarse rose northwest guitars are doing a reserve auction on floyd rose originals
an original is just under £300 for everything
block, bridge, saddles, nut, claw, and springs
there's also the gotoh 1996t which would fit with an ibanez well
@ocean basin yes basically the convo is going on with the gotoh but im open to opinons on gotoh vs "floyd rose"tm
yea that'd be a good option, unless you want something with a different finish and making it fancy looking
they are all basically the same thing at the core
a floyd rose original is a bit of a bragging piece lol
but considering the ones in my link are like £150 off it's not bad
OFRs are usually like £400
and these ones are 300 ?
they'll keep dropping in price until they're bought
so keep an eye on them and you might see an even better deal
AHh
every 24 hours
ill probably go gotoh considering nice japanese metal
the 1984 OFR is really cool imo
Floyd Rose Original 1984 Tremolo System - Black The original and still the best, this Floyd Rose Tremolo System carries the same classic design as the 1984 versions so well utilised by players like Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani. it's just an OFR based off of the original 1984 model lol
like van halen used
although there is another you could consider
either the schaller tremolo or schaller lockmeister
made in the same factory as floyd rose originals, as schaller is the company that makes them
im more about quality being my objective
the schaller tremolo has replaceable knife edges
the lockmeister is a little higher quality though but no replaceable knife edges
so these are 200 ish
gotoh is 150
and fr is 300
im not sure on size/fittings with these
the main thing i think is the nut
you want the nut to match the radius of your fretboard ideally
Can you actually just drop in a gotoh into place of the regular double locking trem?
same with your saddles
i believe so but this might of been a lying forum
Oh not good
it seems that it is correct that the gotoh 1996t is insertable in all double locking ibanez briges
and the schaller lockmeister require re routing for my case
or i can go OFR
"The only Floyd Rose trems that are equally good as the German Floyd Rose trems is the Gotoh 1996T Floyd Rose trems." some forum is really going heavy against floy rose remakes.
they also suppot schaller but im not doing any re routing so i think ill go gotoh
unless i use a standard schaller floyd rose, @ocean basin gotoh or schaller ?
i can't rightfully say because they're both good
go for the gotoh if you wanna save money and aren't bothered about brands
charvel uses the 1996t on their made in japan models

I bought a lockmesiter that matches the color of my dl2 ibanez and im dropping it in when i dont have work/school so its gonna be soon
🤘🤘
@abstract badge the lockmesiter fit perfectly down to the mounting studs getting tapped in, the locking nut did not fit so I just use the original, if i wanted the lockmeister version to work i would need to shave a milimeter of fret length but I prefered to keep it stock. also there is a retainer bar (not a stock one on the hpt) but I didnt inStall it considering the screws from lockmeister are abit to long for the fit.
So no lockmeister?
No the lockmeister is in
like it fit perfectly
the locking nut R3 from lockmeister is to big so i just used ibanez'es
changed the guitar
