Is it hard to get used to? From playing 25.5
well when u play an 8 string u wont really be playing it like a regular 6 string anyway r u
Yeah
u can also consider multi scale and fan frets
I mean i guess they can be better but i dont like how they look
I just like the straight frets
it makes playing the high strings a lot easier
I’d take fan fret they’re just more versatile and easier to play in my opinion
im considering the exact same thing, and 26.5 is enough if its what you have to deal with. Rob scallon used 26.5 for years before switching to fanned frets
its not very loose
its decent
ofc fanfret is best
but if there is one guitar that is perfect in every way but it has 26.5 sclae
thats a fine compromise
Yeah but ive heard 26.5 has problems at certain tunings
But i guess it depends if im gonna play on those tunings
which tunings?
drop Q?
ofc
and drop E isnt that bad
it will still be fine with the standard strings
you can swap if it makes you feel better
if you were dropping below E then there would be a problem
then i think youre fine

i use drop e in 26.5 and i need to rep like 85s on the low
but if u are dead set on 26.5, then here’s what i head to deal with. needed to modify out the tuner holes a bit to be able to fit, filing the nut by a decent amount, and intonation was a lil fucked
28 isn’t gonna feel widely unfamiliar and it’ll just lend to a better Drop E experience as a whole, its why 28 is sort of the standard for 8 string anyway and 8 strings themselves are tuned to Drop F#
@wanton fractal hey, so as you recommended me the 26.5 i actually changed my mind on using it for drop e, i would only use it for f standard and little lower but for example if i wanna play something thats in drop e a pitch shifter is gonna be handy right?
On an 8 string?
Just tune down
It’s like tuning to drop D
It’s not a huge jump
No need for pitch shifting
Yeah, i actually seen some guy’s doom covers which had a 25.5 inch scale 8 string ltd, told him how he god that sick tone(its actually really good) and yeah he used 9-80 and a drop pedal
I really don’t think you need a pitch shifter for tuning down a full step
That’s like using a pitch shifter on a 6 string
To go to drop D
It’s not necessary, it can do it perfectly fine
Yeah? Im just wondering about the tone not being trash when i go lower
It absolutely won’t
The tone won’t change noticbly at all
It’s just a very slight downtune
Wow, if it wont then i dont understand why people complain so much about low scale 8 strings for lower tunings
Well, atleast i mean not too low
Like how low?
Lower than drop e as you said
Lower than drop E I can see there might be a problem
Just like tuning a 6 string with 9s to drop C
It’s where tension starts to fall off
But just drop e you should be totally fine
Also
If you aren’t satisfied with how drop E sounds
Just get high guage strings
Yeah, like up to 80’s?
The 8 string im looking to buy comes with 10-74, i might keep it a while
Maybe, I’m no expert with 8 string gauges
Alright thanks again for the information, i think i finally decided what to do
