Because their old stuff is the best, their new stuff is the worst

#

Iโ€™m going to fit the stereo chorus 400 in here somehow and get rid of the rage

somber lake
#

Almost too wide

brittle kraken
#

I want a 6505 pretty bad haha

#

Their 5150s, 3120s, Classic 100s, Ultra Plus 120s, Chadwicks, and 6534+s are sick too

somber lake
#

They got rid of their old part warehouses

#

And a lot of their modern bandits that try to be like the old bandits are garbage

#

The second I have my chance im getting something else

#

And for the bass

#

a 4x10 ampeg cab maybe?

#

And one of their smaller rack heads

#

Also the reverb is broken on that peavy

#

I also just want new amps, tired of the old stuff lmao

ivory maple
#

This was on rig pics but I'm also sharing here, my Standard Mark III Series

#

It's similar to the Centurion except it doesn't have the compressor.

brittle kraken
#

Someone has a Peavey XR-600B plus a Traynor 4x10 cab for $75

#

Both are functioning

brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

Yeah that's the automix

#

Don't know how it does it think it's just a 50/50 blend

#

But it sounds amazing with the Automix

brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

It actually sounds a bit like a Sunn too

#

It's got some Beta Lead sounds and goes great with the Super Fuzz

#

You really got to crank the gain though it is a pretty low gain amplifier by modern standards

brittle kraken
#

The Beta is a pretty high gain amp

ivory maple
#

I've heard that

#

With the sheer variation you can get with the Automix using both EQs it can definitely get in the ballpark in terms of tone

brittle kraken
#

I love how my Beta has the ability to combine both channels

ivory maple
#

My original intention was to find a Centurion Mark III but this one was of sound price for being practically mint condition

#

So I got it

#

And I'm very pleased with it's sounds

brittle kraken
#

Sick!!!!!

ivory maple
#

Really though for something from 78 it doesn't look that long from the factory

ivory maple
#

Nice.

#

Unfortunately GC would be a tad bit too far for me lol

#

There actually is one up on Ebay by me but it's spares and repairs sadly

brittle kraken
#

This one appears to be functioning

steel escarp

brittle kraken

Even better price I got for mine, I say go for it

brittle kraken
ivory maple
brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

Sunn 2x15s are nice but pretty hard to find

brittle kraken
#

Someone also has a 6505+ combo for $300 but unfortunately they're in Kentucky

brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

Very

#

I see Model T prices and the only way I could excuse them is that Sunn O))) must have bought them all

brittle kraken
#

I was lucky to snag my Beta for $600

#

I might go for an Acme low cab or something like that, on the cheaper side but those things are build for downtuning

ivory maple
#

Those look pretty nice

#

If I could chose any guitar cabs though it'd probably be Vader

#

Though they're real hard to find they're amazing

#

Hard to find outside the United States atleast

brittle kraken
#

I'm planning on using the Standard for bass since my guitar amp is already good

ivory maple
#

I reckon it could get some sweet Fuzz Bass tones

brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

So far my best results have been from stacking the amp gain with pedal gain

#

It takes pedals amazingly

brittle kraken
#

I was planning on using my line 6 POD 2.0 as a dirt pedal, basically using the fuzz box setting

ivory maple
#

Yeah combine that with the amps distortion and it'll be great

#

The only fuzz I have with me is the Behringer Super Fuzz which is a clone of the Boss Hyper Fuzz

#

I'm thinking of getting some sort of Fuzz Face next, probably a modded one with more gain

brittle kraken
#

I have a super fuzz as well!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

ivory maple
#

They're great really especially for how cheap they come

brittle kraken
#

I also need a cab that can withstand absurdly low bass tunings without busting the speakers

ivory maple
#

Especially that the original pedal is in the 300s in terms of price now

ivory maple
brittle kraken
#

There's one for $225... but the shipping is also $225

#

If the shipping was cheaper it would be a no brainer

ivory maple
#

Got to (not) love the current shipping prices

brittle kraken
#

They're extremely hifi cabs but apparently have shit efficiency so people power them like x2 what they'd normally be rated for

#

They're supposedly like obscure boutique cabs but can be found rather cheap used

ivory maple
#

Don't think I've came by any around me so it may be a local deal

#

I already have my Marshall 4x12 so it's not like I need anymore though

somber lake
ivory maple
#

It's a very good feature

somber lake
ivory maple
#

I'd recommend you do

I just met Hartley Peavey

#

He lives a few towns from me and I ran into him

#

I'm fucking dumbfounded

#

My jaw dropped the moment I figured out who he was

brittle kraken

Also Hartley's favorite Peavey amp he ever made is the Bandit 65

#

Apparently

#

They had one in store but I didn't buy it

I just tried a Peavey 5150 II and absolutely adored the fucking thing

brittle kraken

Picked up this 1986 USA made Peavey Basic 50 for free. Can't wait to go home and plug it in!

ivory maple

In 2021 someone bought one for $1,500 on Reverb. Absolutely fucking insane.

ivory maple
#

Wow

brittle kraken
#

@ivory maple Peavey stack

ivory maple
#

Nice

brittle kraken
# ivory maple Nice

Thank you! The Rage 158 is definitely the one with the most gain, the Basic 50 is the cleanest, and the Decade is a happy medium (it's my favorite), can get close to gated fuzz tones!

#

The Decade is way more suited for rock than metal but I love it.

ivory maple
#

Nice

#

I said Nice twice

#

I'm quite a fan of the Rage

#

I've seen preamp pedals of it that can get a pretty sweet distortion slash fuzz sound going

brittle kraken
brave shard
brittle kraken
brittle kraken
#

@brave shard @ivory maple I was wrong about the Peavey Decade. It can fucking doom without pedals. Listen to this shit. Had to clean up the pots and stuff... it genuinely kills in the gain department.

ivory maple
#

Pretty anything Peavey I've ever had the pleasure of playing can Doom, sometimes I think just the logo means it can Doom

#

When it comes to the practice amp compartment Peavey always kills it

brittle kraken
#

What can't doom without pedals is my Basic 50... very... VERY clean amp

#

Makes it a great pedal platform!

ivory maple
#

Interesting

#

When it comes to the combos I like the look of the Stereo Chorus

brittle kraken
#

I love how the speaker grill is angled up

#

At a slant

ivory maple
#

Peavey probably has the best aesthetic when it comes to amps for me

brittle kraken
#

@ivory maple amp settings reveal for that video

ivory maple
#

Interesting that the Highs are cranked

#

Though I can see why

#

It seems that whenever I do the same on my Peavey Standard it increases the gain by a hair

brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

Peaveys definitely have all the mids

#

Practically Marshall level mids just more lows than highs

brittle kraken
#

I LOVE amps with a fuckton of mids

#

That Decade also has no business sounding as good on bass as it does

#

@ivory maple by comparison, my Marshall Lead 12 has WAY less lows and WAY more highs than my Peavey Decade

#

Interesting being that the Lead 12 is a 1x10 and the Decade is a 1x8

ivory maple
#

Yeah

brittle kraken
#

@ivory maple you're going to love this. Decade trick. Max the gain, use the saturation input, roll off your guitar volume. Boom, near-gated fuzz tones for dayzzzz

ivory maple
#

It's got a glitchy character to it that gives it a cool sound

#

Could be used for some psychadelic stuff

brittle kraken
# ivory maple NAD Mint OG Rage

Fuck yeah! James Brown told me on his first day at Peavey in 1986, he started comparing about 4-5 different speakers for the Peavey Companion that he eventually redesigned into the Rage

#

He was there from 1986-2004, the VTM was the first amp he designed with Peavey

#

I may be picking up a Bandit 65 for $60

brittle kraken
brittle kraken
ivory maple
brittle kraken
#

Those two rule too

ivory maple
#

I mean just look at this

#

They seem to be very rare but they kill apparently

brittle kraken
#

The Combo 300 is incredible. 8 different EQ knobs, all centered at a different frequency, an Internal crossover with biamp capabilities, and an external speaker jack, also a Black Widow 15"

#

Probably weighs as much as a fucking boat anchor

ivory maple
#

Definitely sounds like it would

brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

If there was a tube amp I'd have it'd definitely be the VTM

#

Pretty much their take on a modded JCM 800

brittle kraken
# ivory maple Definitely sounds like it would

It's 210 watts at 4 ohms with just the stock BW speaker... the external jack allows you to connect a 4 ohm cab (or cab set) to bring the impedance down to 2 ohms. Which gives you the full 300 watts

brittle kraken
#

I'd love to see what the hype on the Butchers is about

#

I've heard those are JCM800-y too

ivory maple
#

Yeah

brittle kraken
#

Same with the Windsors

ivory maple
#

I think the main hype around those is that they actually got a lawsuit from Marshall for them

brittle kraken
#

Peavey did a lot of Marshall-y stuff haha

brittle kraken
#

Peavey made some VERY midrange heavy amps during a time when scooped mids was the norm. Their designs have my respect

ivory maple
#

Peavey mids are awesome

brittle kraken
#

I've heard the Black Widow bass speakers fart out in low tunings but have a fuckton of mids as well, I feel like bi or triamping would be great for that. Highs into something small, midrange into a Black Widow, and lows into something bigger

brittle kraken
# ivory maple Peavey mids are awesome

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A 5150 boosted with a tube screamer into a cab with V30s is next to impossible to scoop with amp settings alone

ivory maple
#

The stock speaker in my Rage seems to be a no name one but it works well enough, it actually sounds a lot better than I thought it would.

brittle kraken
#

I'm not the biggest fan of V30s due to the shrillness in the top end but I love their midrange response

brittle kraken
#

I have a Decade from 1980 with what appears to be an Eminence made speaker, and another Decade from 83 with a Rola speaker

ivory maple
#

I think the V30 top end only started happening by the time they were outsourced, I have English V30s in my VH-140C and even with the Treble maxed I don't hear any shrillness

brittle kraken
#

That's good to know. I know there's many... MANY different versions of V30s... the ones I've tried were probably imports since they were shrill city

#

I don't think I've tried English V30s

#

I have Hot 100s in my Sunn Beta Lead 2x12 combo and I love them. Tons of midrange without any shrillness. Also decent low end response

#

I do want to try Eminence Swamp Thangs and Weber Black Shucks, though

#

I've heard the Webers aren't very sensitive... but Weber doesn't release sensitivity info about them

#

Swamp Thangs I believe have a 102 or 103 db rating 1w/1m

brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

I'd assume they're similar

#

They can definitely get super scooped

#

The mid control is labelled as "Ultra Mid" for quite a good reason, you can go from none to all the mids

brittle kraken
#

Yeah, I know of them from 90s death metal bands, Dying Fetus, among others

brittle kraken
#

I've heard the Crate GX-130C is basically the same design as the VH-140C, which doesn't surprise me since Crate and Ampeg were using the same factories at the time

ivory maple
#

Yeah the early Dying Fetus tone takes pretty much completely axing all the mids, getting rid of quite a fair amount of the bass and then scooping the mids with an eq and adding a bit of bass back in.

#

I find that gets quite close

brittle kraken
#

Yeah... I'm not a huge fan of scooped guitar tones... I find in a mix it just turns into incoherent mush. You lose your presence

ivory maple
#

Depends on the mood I'm in really

#

My Crate GX900H had a sick Slam scooped tone before it broke on me

brittle kraken
#

I usually go for some pretty midrange heavy stuff minus a select few bass tones, I used to scoop guitar mids for black metal

brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

Usually I have mine slightly boosted

ivory maple
brittle kraken
#

I feel Crates and Metal Zones both got a bad reputation because everyone in the 90s had them and thought mids at 0 was the key to being heavy... instead... you get bees ๐Ÿ˜…

brittle kraken
ivory maple
#

Still haven't gotten the GX900H fixed, probably should try it myself for a project

brittle kraken
#

The Powerblock really doesn't have any sort of distortion. The gain even maxed is more of a light overdrive. It's an incredible pedal platform, though! Also has great use as a stereo power amp for an external preamp ๐Ÿ™‚

ivory maple
#

I think that was what they were marketed as, can't recall

brittle kraken
#

Crate was supposed to make a Bass Powerblock but it fell through

brittle kraken
#

If I had another cab stack I could probably power two full stacks with it

ivory maple
#

Wow

brittle kraken
#

It sounds great on bass

#

Honestly it's practically a FRFR system marketed as a guitar amp. It's transparent and doesn't really color your sound at all

#

It's my highest wattage amp

#

I'm also a huge fan of Crate's Blue Voodoo 300s but they're fucking rare... and expensive to maintain

#

16 tubes total...each retube is about $600

brittle kraken
#

I've just been going straight in, also using it to record direct since the line out has a cab sim built in

#

It's a great tool

ivory maple
#

May aswell I reckon that was one of the main things they were build for

#

built*

brittle kraken
#

Yeah, fair. I may try my DOD Death Metal into it as a preamp

ivory maple
#

Sounds like it'd be cool

brittle kraken
#

The Death Metal is super over the top, it makes a great preamp

#

I've tried it both in front of my Sunns, and as a preamp

#

Also into the Powerblock up front

ivory maple
#

Gain always maxed

brittle kraken
# ivory maple Gain always maxed

Yeah, the volume control really does nothing to the gain lmao. The Death Metal has an absurd amount of low end for such a high gain pedal so it's great on bass!

brittle kraken

#

80s peavey stuff is awesome, $89 for a fully plywood cab using G12K85s. I kind of want to replace the logo though, since it didnโ€™t come with it

brittle kraken
#

I picked up a Peavey Mark III Musician 400GH head for $25. It apparently doesn't turn on but I haven't tested it with a cab so it could just be that the LED doesn't work. Fingers crossed

brittle kraken
brittle kraken
#

That Peavey I paid $25 for thinking it was broken? It works. Oh my god I made out like a Bandit

brittle kraken
#

Spent some time actually playing the head instead of just plugging it in for two seconds. Two issues with the head. First the good. It passes sound and the effects all work. The bad news. It sounds weirdly distorted in the high end, even with the gain low. And Channel B is super quiet compared to Channel A.

Such a cool amp. I was listening to Tonetalk, and the engineer said they had a Jose modded Marshall that they based it of, then added all of their mods. Peavey is underated because all of us have brand bias. Slap a F, M, E on it, it perceived sound goes up. I am guilty too.

Very rare amps. I have a matching 4x12 too. Only downside is they're made of MDF since Sunn had to cut costs at that point as the company that owned them (Hartzell) was going under. Fender bought them out in 1985. The Enforcers were made from late 1983-early 1985. They were Sunn's last tube amp under Hartzell. More than 100 but less than 150 Enforcers were ever made. Sunn completed two shipments of 50 total Enforcer heads, cabs, and combos, a third shipment was partially completed but shut down when Fender bought them out
