I want a 6505 pretty bad haha
Their 5150s, 3120s, Classic 100s, Ultra Plus 120s, Chadwicks, and 6534+s are sick too
Iโm pretty much done with peavys lol
They got rid of their old part warehouses
And a lot of their modern bandits that try to be like the old bandits are garbage
The second I have my chance im getting something else
And for the bass
a 4x10 ampeg cab maybe?
And one of their smaller rack heads
Also the reverb is broken on that peavy
I also just want new amps, tired of the old stuff lmao
This was on rig pics but I'm also sharing here, my Standard Mark III Series
It's similar to the Centurion except it doesn't have the compressor.
Someone has a Peavey XR-600B plus a Traynor 4x10 cab for $75
Both are functioning
Can you mix both channels with that??????
Yeah that's the automix
Don't know how it does it think it's just a 50/50 blend
But it sounds amazing with the Automix
That's sick as fuck, I can do that with my Sunn ๐
It actually sounds a bit like a Sunn too
It's got some Beta Lead sounds and goes great with the Super Fuzz
You really got to crank the gain though it is a pretty low gain amplifier by modern standards
The Beta is a pretty high gain amp
I've heard that
With the sheer variation you can get with the Automix using both EQs it can definitely get in the ballpark in terms of tone
Yeah, it sounds like a killer amp, might look into the Standard Mark IIIs
I love how my Beta has the ability to combine both channels
My original intention was to find a Centurion Mark III but this one was of sound price for being practically mint condition
So I got it
And I'm very pleased with it's sounds
Sick!!!!!
Really though for something from 78 it doesn't look that long from the factory
Nice.
Unfortunately GC would be a tad bit too far for me lol
There actually is one up on Ebay by me but it's spares and repairs sadly
This one appears to be functioning
noice
I found a Peavey Standard Mark iii for $100 near me
Even better price I got for mine, I say go for it
Would the standard work for bass too?????
Yeah pretty sure it does
Perfect!!!!! May be my next amp haha, dude is less than an hour away from me, all I need is a decent bass cab
Sunn 2x15s are nice but pretty hard to find
Someone also has a 6505+ combo for $300 but unfortunately they're in Kentucky
I love Sunn's stuff but unfortunately it can be very expensive
Very
I see Model T prices and the only way I could excuse them is that Sunn O))) must have bought them all
Yeah, they pretty much did
I was lucky to snag my Beta for $600
I might go for an Acme low cab or something like that, on the cheaper side but those things are build for downtuning
Those look pretty nice
If I could chose any guitar cabs though it'd probably be Vader
Though they're real hard to find they're amazing
Hard to find outside the United States atleast
I'm planning on using the Standard for bass since my guitar amp is already good
I reckon it could get some sweet Fuzz Bass tones
Hopefully the plan since my main bass tone with what I've been recording has been very, VERY fuzzed out
So far my best results have been from stacking the amp gain with pedal gain
It takes pedals amazingly
I was planning on using my line 6 POD 2.0 as a dirt pedal, basically using the fuzz box setting
Yeah combine that with the amps distortion and it'll be great
The only fuzz I have with me is the Behringer Super Fuzz which is a clone of the Boss Hyper Fuzz
I'm thinking of getting some sort of Fuzz Face next, probably a modded one with more gain
I have a super fuzz as well!!!! ๐
They're great really especially for how cheap they come
I also need a cab that can withstand absurdly low bass tunings without busting the speakers
Especially that the original pedal is in the 300s in terms of price now
That Acme one you mentioned earlier is probably the best shout then
There's one for $225... but the shipping is also $225
If the shipping was cheaper it would be a no brainer
Got to (not) love the current shipping prices
They're extremely hifi cabs but apparently have shit efficiency so people power them like x2 what they'd normally be rated for
They're supposedly like obscure boutique cabs but can be found rather cheap used
Don't think I've came by any around me so it may be a local deal
I already have my Marshall 4x12 so it's not like I need anymore though
My stereo chorus has that too
It's a very good feature
I havenโt messed with it much yet
I'd recommend you do
Great Bass Cab's lol
Never really used a guitar amp peavey
Obviously not since I cant spell it right
I just met Hartley Peavey
He lives a few towns from me and I ran into him
I'm fucking dumbfounded
My jaw dropped the moment I figured out who he was
Also Hartley's favorite Peavey amp he ever made is the Bandit 65
Apparently
They had one in store but I didn't buy it
Holy
I'm still shocked haha
I just tried a Peavey 5150 II and absolutely adored the fucking thing
Thats cool.
This beast of a fucking amp, unfortunately it was $1,299 that I don't have for an amp
Yeah good sounds. Did not know they were going for that much.
Peavey
THE DUDE DELETED THE $200 6505 LISTING NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Bummer.
Thatโs funny
Itโs also my dads favorite amp
He used to own 4 and played them in stereo on each side of the stage
No idea how
Now did you ask him what the fuck happened to the old parts warehouses? We canโt repair the good old amps like the bandit 65
And my stereo chorus 400
No, I actually did not
Unfortunately
damn
Trying out a new peavy amp (the one on top) I absolutely love it compared to the other one
Well itโs really old new to me
I like Peavey.
Peavey Horizon.
These are tempting...
i have bandit ailver stripe w for 150$
Paid $50 for this today. 1980 Peavey Decade!
@brave shard not sure if you're into Peavey but I know you liked the little Marshall amp I showed before ๐
Skynyrd used them, right?
I think they used the Maces? I'd have to check
Queens Of The Stone Age use the Decades
I think Skynyrd also used the Deuces
Basically a Mace with 2 (I think) less power tubes
Picked up this 1986 USA made Peavey Basic 50 for free. Can't wait to go home and plug it in!
Ain't that the one that gets sold for way too much on Reverb
Yep! Thanks to Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age
In 2021 someone bought one for $1,500 on Reverb. Absolutely fucking insane.
Wow
@ivory maple Peavey stack
Nice
Thank you! The Rage 158 is definitely the one with the most gain, the Basic 50 is the cleanest, and the Decade is a happy medium (it's my favorite), can get close to gated fuzz tones!
The Decade is way more suited for rock than metal but I love it.
Nice
I said Nice twice
I'm quite a fan of the Rage
I've seen preamp pedals of it that can get a pretty sweet distortion slash fuzz sound going
Same... I like the Decade a bit more, though ๐
I think a rage 158 was my first amp.
I'm a fan of mine, definitely usable with tweaks, you can use the headphone out to slave it into a bigger amp as well. Sounds better that way
@brave shard @ivory maple I was wrong about the Peavey Decade. It can fucking doom without pedals. Listen to this shit. Had to clean up the pots and stuff... it genuinely kills in the gain department.
Pretty anything Peavey I've ever had the pleasure of playing can Doom, sometimes I think just the logo means it can Doom
When it comes to the practice amp compartment Peavey always kills it
I genuinely thought the Decade was more of a rock amp. Cleaned it up. Way more gain on tap ๐
What can't doom without pedals is my Basic 50... very... VERY clean amp
Makes it a great pedal platform!
I love how the Decade looks. The design is beautiful
I love how the speaker grill is angled up
At a slant
Peavey probably has the best aesthetic when it comes to amps for me
@ivory maple amp settings reveal for that video
Interesting that the Highs are cranked
Though I can see why
It seems that whenever I do the same on my Peavey Standard it increases the gain by a hair
Increases gain but actually doesn't get too shrill, surprisingly! The amp is also super midrangey so even if you have the mids low, they're still very present!
Peaveys definitely have all the mids
Practically Marshall level mids just more lows than highs
I LOVE amps with a fuckton of mids
That Decade also has no business sounding as good on bass as it does
@ivory maple by comparison, my Marshall Lead 12 has WAY less lows and WAY more highs than my Peavey Decade
Interesting being that the Lead 12 is a 1x10 and the Decade is a 1x8
Yeah
@ivory maple you're going to love this. Decade trick. Max the gain, use the saturation input, roll off your guitar volume. Boom, near-gated fuzz tones for dayzzzz
It's got a glitchy character to it that gives it a cool sound
Could be used for some psychadelic stuff
It's so fucking cool. Like a bit crusher mixed with fuzz. Cuts off the sustain unless you pick super hard and use a lot of vibrato haha
Just secured this 1983 Peavey Decade for $25! Can't wait to test it out ๐
@ivory maple
Whoa! That's insane.
Nice
May be picking up Peavey #5 tomorrow, a 1982 TNT 100
There is a nice little Peavey near me, I am thinking about. I dont need it. Has 2 JBLs in it.
Those are great amps!
I think it is basically the precursor to the classic. I dont need it, but could also have dual use if I make a bomb shelter. I can line the exterior of it with Peavey amps.
New amp day, 1982 Peavey TNT 100, ran me $20
I threw in a DOD American Metal (HM-2 Clone) and it's given me instant Nails tone
Fuck yeah! James Brown told me on his first day at Peavey in 1986, he started comparing about 4-5 different speakers for the Peavey Companion that he eventually redesigned into the Rage
He was there from 1986-2004, the VTM was the first amp he designed with Peavey
I may be picking up a Bandit 65 for $60
Nice
The supersat circuit is also a James Brown design, it's on the Bandit 75 as well ๐
A very interesting design, sounds great too
I'm sure of it, everything I've tried that James had a hand in has been gold
Also, one of the Peavey amps I want the most is the Combo 300. Those things are insane.
The craziest one I've seen is probably between the VTM and Revolution
Those two rule too
The Combo 300 is incredible. 8 different EQ knobs, all centered at a different frequency, an Internal crossover with biamp capabilities, and an external speaker jack, also a Black Widow 15"
Probably weighs as much as a fucking boat anchor
Definitely sounds like it would
I've heard of the Revilution, the VTM was James Brown's first design with Peavey
If there was a tube amp I'd have it'd definitely be the VTM
Pretty much their take on a modded JCM 800
It's 210 watts at 4 ohms with just the stock BW speaker... the external jack allows you to connect a 4 ohm cab (or cab set) to bring the impedance down to 2 ohms. Which gives you the full 300 watts
Yep, killer amps!
I'd love to see what the hype on the Butchers is about
I've heard those are JCM800-y too
Yeah
Same with the Windsors
I think the main hype around those is that they actually got a lawsuit from Marshall for them
Peavey did a lot of Marshall-y stuff haha
Didn't know that. No wonder they're so pricey
Peavey made some VERY midrange heavy amps during a time when scooped mids was the norm. Their designs have my respect
Peavey mids are awesome
I've heard the Black Widow bass speakers fart out in low tunings but have a fuckton of mids as well, I feel like bi or triamping would be great for that. Highs into something small, midrange into a Black Widow, and lows into something bigger
I've said it before and I'll say it again. A 5150 boosted with a tube screamer into a cab with V30s is next to impossible to scoop with amp settings alone
The stock speaker in my Rage seems to be a no name one but it works well enough, it actually sounds a lot better than I thought it would.
I'm not the biggest fan of V30s due to the shrillness in the top end but I love their midrange response
Probably made by Rola or Eminence
I have a Decade from 1980 with what appears to be an Eminence made speaker, and another Decade from 83 with a Rola speaker
I think the V30 top end only started happening by the time they were outsourced, I have English V30s in my VH-140C and even with the Treble maxed I don't hear any shrillness
That's good to know. I know there's many... MANY different versions of V30s... the ones I've tried were probably imports since they were shrill city
I don't think I've tried English V30s
I have Hot 100s in my Sunn Beta Lead 2x12 combo and I love them. Tons of midrange without any shrillness. Also decent low end response
I do want to try Eminence Swamp Thangs and Weber Black Shucks, though
I've heard the Webers aren't very sensitive... but Weber doesn't release sensitivity info about them
Swamp Thangs I believe have a 102 or 103 db rating 1w/1m
Also, you have a VH-140C combo? Are those amps as scooped as I've been led to believe? ๐
I'd assume they're similar
They can definitely get super scooped
The mid control is labelled as "Ultra Mid" for quite a good reason, you can go from none to all the mids
Yeah, I know of them from 90s death metal bands, Dying Fetus, among others
Glad they're not inherently scooped
I've heard the Crate GX-130C is basically the same design as the VH-140C, which doesn't surprise me since Crate and Ampeg were using the same factories at the time
Yeah the early Dying Fetus tone takes pretty much completely axing all the mids, getting rid of quite a fair amount of the bass and then scooping the mids with an eq and adding a bit of bass back in.
I find that gets quite close
Yeah... I'm not a huge fan of scooped guitar tones... I find in a mix it just turns into incoherent mush. You lose your presence
Depends on the mood I'm in really
My Crate GX900H had a sick Slam scooped tone before it broke on me
I usually go for some pretty midrange heavy stuff minus a select few bass tones, I used to scoop guitar mids for black metal
Someone has a G600XL here for pretty cheap
Usually I have mine slightly boosted
Can't say I'd know about any of the Crates except the 900 and GX-130C
I feel Crates and Metal Zones both got a bad reputation because everyone in the 90s had them and thought mids at 0 was the key to being heavy... instead... you get bees ๐
I have a Powerblock that I adore, and a broken KX-100 I got for free that I'm deciding whether I should keep and fix up or give away
Still haven't gotten the GX900H fixed, probably should try it myself for a project
The Powerblock really doesn't have any sort of distortion. The gain even maxed is more of a light overdrive. It's an incredible pedal platform, though! Also has great use as a stereo power amp for an external preamp ๐
I think that was what they were marketed as, can't recall
Crate was supposed to make a Bass Powerblock but it fell through
They're fucking loud. 150 watts at 8 ohms mono or 75 watts at 4 ohms a side in stereo
If I had another cab stack I could probably power two full stacks with it
Wow
It sounds great on bass
Honestly it's practically a FRFR system marketed as a guitar amp. It's transparent and doesn't really color your sound at all
It's my highest wattage amp
I'm also a huge fan of Crate's Blue Voodoo 300s but they're fucking rare... and expensive to maintain
16 tubes total...each retube is about $600
I'm going to try it as a power amp when I'm home
I've just been going straight in, also using it to record direct since the line out has a cab sim built in
It's a great tool
Yeah, fair. I may try my DOD Death Metal into it as a preamp
Sounds like it'd be cool
The Death Metal is super over the top, it makes a great preamp
I've tried it both in front of my Sunns, and as a preamp
Also into the Powerblock up front
Gain always maxed
Yeah, the volume control really does nothing to the gain lmao. The Death Metal has an absurd amount of low end for such a high gain pedal so it's great on bass!
Someone has this beast for $50. Might try snagging it if I have time
@ivory maple I have never heard of that amp. Is it yours?
Oh it looks like it is not. Looks cool.
Nah not mine
I'd love one of those Audition Chorus amps, only issue is they're always so far from me ๐ญ
I missed out on this. Also a $60 Bandit 65, and someone giving away a 5150 cab with V30s
For 50 clams I'll jump in that line
I missed it. Seller ghosted me and sold it to someone else ๐
Snagged a ton more Peaveys and also found out that my Decade was modded with a speaker out jack
Went to pick up the $60 Musician head. It won't turn on now, they're going to have their tech fix it (or Hartley himself if he's up to it) but they're holding it for me and apparently they're hooking me up with some other goodies, super nice dudes
80s peavey stuff is awesome, $89 for a fully plywood cab using G12K85s. I kind of want to replace the logo though, since it didnโt come with it
I picked up a Peavey Mark III Musician 400GH head for $25. It apparently doesn't turn on but I haven't tested it with a cab so it could just be that the LED doesn't work. Fingers crossed
That Peavey I paid $25 for thinking it was broken? It works. Oh my god I made out like a Bandit
Spent some time actually playing the head instead of just plugging it in for two seconds. Two issues with the head. First the good. It passes sound and the effects all work. The bad news. It sounds weirdly distorted in the high end, even with the gain low. And Channel B is super quiet compared to Channel A.
At least it was only $25. Could probably get a tech to look at it, but thatโd be more than the amp itself
My tech charges a $60 fee to open it up and look at it. Not bad by any means
Yeah, really not bad. My tech is awesome, no bench fees because he does it as a hobby since heโs a retired electrician
Sounds like a come up. Best 25 dollars spent yeah? I bet it can get loud and I love those kinds of EQ ing. Must sound very nice with your 2x15 's
It sounds great but it does have a couple issues. I'm replacing the plug tonight since someone removed the ground pin. Channel B is ultra quiet compared to A and both channels have this weird distortion in the high end even with the gain low. However, the effects all work and sound great
The phaser is some of the best I've used
Isnโt this already the second time you found a plug like that? Why do people do it???
Yep. Often times shitty electric causes buzzing and hum so people think that ripping out the ground solves this ๐ . It'll work for a ground loop... but it also essentially turns the plug into a 2 prong and believe me... you do NOT want to become the ground
You canโt hear buzz or hum if youโre dead, I guess
Very true ๐
iโm looking at picking up an 85 peavey t-15
I'm wondering if anyone herein has used or uses a Peavey KB 300. I see some one selling saying it's always been in a road case and for 250 clams, good deal or.. looks like it has all the knobs
That's a keyboard/full range amp
Yes, we bought a key board synth for our daughter Xmas gift
It'll work for that! ๐
Got this came in a road case for our daughters yamaha synth
Is a 15" with horns 3 channel. Loud!
That's a hell of a setup! ๐
Lefty ๐ช
I once had a peavey
Was an express 112
65 w good amp
Id like to have it right now
Perfect condition but the clean channel volume was scratchy
Paid 100 cad
Yeah a lefty here.
That would have been a good one.
My mid 90s Peavey Bandit had scratchy pots, I pulled it out to get to the pots and hit them all with contact cleaner. Fixed the issue.
Happy New Year as well.
Happy new year
did you buy it?
Sounds like a killer rig! ๐

Big news!
I kind of want the VTM pedal they are releasing.
Same!
Such a cool amp. I was listening to Tonetalk, and the engineer said they had a Jose modded Marshall that they based it of, then added all of their mods. Peavey is underated because all of us have brand bias. Slap a F, M, E on it, it perceived sound goes up. I am guilty too.
Yeah I like it a lot, not sure about the sheffield speakers that came with it tho. Bought it for โฌ275 which I think is a steal, especially since someone put a set of exh power tubes and jj preamp tubes in to replace the standard chinese ones lol
Yeah, the Sheffields were super inconsistent since the cones were done by hand. Lots of variation. Some sound great, others? Not so much
I'm replacing one with an eminence governor from my hotrod deluxe which is on the bench, and in time I'll replace the other when the eminence Karnivore is available in retail.
Maybe I'll try one of the sheffields in the hotrod but I'll likely put the oem speaker back in, first some repairs tho. The famous scorched pcb ๐ฅฒ ๐ฅ
Sick! I want to try Eminence Swamp Thangs in one of my Sunn 2x12 combos
Heard one of those in a mesa cab driven by a hiwatt dr103 once
Strange combination but sounded pretty cool
Super sensitive speakers. They can get dark and doomy too. Perfect for amps that are too bright by default
Later heard the same amp through a cab loaded with the fane crescendo's everyone loves. That thing on full volume was.. almost a religious experience lol
I haven't tried Fanes. I have Celestion Hot 100s in my Sunn Beta Lead 2x12 combo
Instantly fixed my longing for a high power hiwatt, I was yeah 'yeah.. I don't need that at home'
Never tried those
I love the sound of the eminence governor tho which is why I'm pulling it from the fender
Altho it was quite the opposite when breaking it in, didn't sound good at all the first few hours
Oh dear god according to the specs that beta lead is even heavier than the peavey ultra 212 ๐คฃ
Must be some big iron driving that thing
You don't want to know the weight of my Sunn Enforcer 2x12 combo. 99 pounds!
The Beta is 70 something. Mine maybe a little less since the giant stock speakers aren't in it anymore
The Enforcer has some serious iron.
That one doesn't sag when you hit a big chord, it makes the lights dim lol
Solid state rectifier, no sag needed. One channel is based on a Fender Twin Reverb (with a hell of a distortion circuit and the ability to dial in a ton of midrange) and the other is based on a Marshall JCM800 (but way darker and with a ton more gain)
You can combine both channels too
I love doing that. Makes a killer bass amp into the right cab(s) as well
4 6L6GC power tubes, 4 12AX7A preamp tubes ๐
Ill have to try one of those some day
Very rare amps. I have a matching 4x12 too. Only downside is they're made of MDF since Sunn had to cut costs at that point as the company that owned them (Hartzell) was going under. Fender bought them out in 1985. The Enforcers were made from late 1983-early 1985. They were Sunn's last tube amp under Hartzell. More than 100 but less than 150 Enforcers were ever made. Sunn completed two shipments of 50 total Enforcer heads, cabs, and combos, a third shipment was partially completed but shut down when Fender bought them out
Nice!
I love the peavey classic 30 amp. Genuinely one of the best amps ive ever played and it fits my sound
Oh yeah the peavey predator is a good strat copy too
heres a prodject peavey im going to be building soon
Anybody actually considering taking a look into those preamp pedals that are coming out?
Or their Super Festival reissue?
I kind of want the VTM preamp pedal. The Super Festival is 1,200 fucking watts, it's insane
Fuck yeah!
I am interested in the VTM, but only 1 review out, and a Thomman from the guitar show deal.
Dont know why they pulled the pxd series
The coffin cases and guitar designs were great
been looking for the 23s for ages as well
found a guy with a 23 III but no coffin case and a lot of issues to fix
will probably send it in here if he gets back to me
I've been looking everywhere for them
theyre really hard to find but atleast not a bad price
Also for the peavey cabs I found a 6505 cabinet for ยฃ100
but reading online I ain't seeing great reviews
I did find a tomb for 200 euro but its in italy will probably have to use a proxy service
