I'd personally go for the jazzmaster. I love the sound of their cleans, and they also have all of the switches and knows. It also looks cooler than the mustang imo.

jazzmaster is known for their cleans. though i believe the new player plus fenders have some wicked noiseless pickups that im eager to try

#

im a strat guy though

would the mustang be a good all around guitar for heavy, clean tones?

#

i leaning towards it at the moment, but idk..

If you are looking to create your own unique sound, the jazzmaster is perfect: it has a really nice tremolo, and two wide single coil pickups that sound almost like a strat, but unique

#

if you just want absolutely iconic and perfect single coil tones, then 100% go for the strat. they sound incredible, and they are literally the quintessential single coil sound

#

I dont know much about the mustang, but it seems relatively boring in my opinion. It can do grunge stuff, but otherwise it just sounds like a "guitar", meaning it doesnt really have character for itself

#

i wouldnt hear a guitar and think "ohh thats a mustang" but i would hear a strat or jazzmaster and think "ooh thats a great jazzmaster/strat tone

you are obviously better off with another guitar, but it will be perfectly good

If you like the look and feel of a jazzmaster, then totally get it

I played a HH guitar for years playing Hendrix, math rock etc
