#Budget guitars with humbuckers or silent pickups

I’m looking for a good budget guitar that I can slap through an unholy amount of distortion and not have to worry about pickup noise taking focus.

Current budget is <200$ USD, I’m planning on buying used.

One guitar I’ve seen mentioned as cheap is the JS11 Dinky, does anyone personally recommend/know that model? Other suggestions and advice appreciated.

I'm curious where youre planning to generate quality distortion with that sort of budget.

#

Practically speaking, the simplest option would just be to find something used with EMGs

#

even suhr pickups are going to get noisy with very high gain

#

simplest option is probably just to use a noise gate

You’d be recording a clean signal

#

Aside from avoiding 60hz hum there shouldn’t be any noise

My current guitar is a single-coil bootleg strat and you can hear lots of buzzing whenever it’s connected (cable’s been tested and that works fine)

single coils hum

#

It’s kind of their thing

real ivy

yeah that’s the main issue lol

And even my $3k guitars are going to generate random noise just due to electrical wires, tv screens and the like. That’s not really an issue you can buy your way out of

#

But it should be beyond negligible without significant gain

I’ve just heard that humbuckers get rid of most of the hum

opaque sentinel
#

Humbuckers don’t hum at all

#

They still pick up plenty of noise though

#

Often worse since they tend to be higher output tbh

#

My jem can pick up a tv a room away lol

damn

opaque sentinel
#

But again, this shouldn’t even be audible unless you’re cranking gain

#

Or living inside a microwave oven

#

Are you playing while sitting in front of a computer?

real ivy
#

Yes

opaque sentinel
#

Go sit somewhere else

#

Or at least don’t face the monitor

#

Your pickups are probably just picking up the EM radiation from your monitor

#

Or the pc itself depending on positioning

#

If it’s a super cheap strat, they probably shoved in relatively high output ceramic pickups because they’re dirt cheap

ill send more one sec

#

but this is my favorite so far

#

these are all according to your budget of 200$ USD btw

#

Wow these are actually really nice guitars

My Top Three in no particular order are

These are some really good options, thank you! @plain lark

Just fyi those will have the exact same issue and do absolutely nothing to fix your problem. In the case of the ibanez and jackson they will likely make it significantly worse

#

An example of EM interference with an Ibanez AZ prestige

#

Note how noisy it gets whenever it gets near the computer or even faces it

#

That was on single coil

#

This is it with the humbucker

#

and thats on a relatively low/medium output pickup

#

And last but not least

#

A guitar purpose built for metal

opaque sentinel
#

not a type of pickup

#

and they're only "noiseless" in regard to 60 cycle hum

My plan is to take it to a local shop and get it setup with 12 gauge strings, adjusted to drop A

#

My only issue is that the string nut is probably plastic and not bone, but that shouldn’t be tooooo much of an issue.

No, unless you plan to do lots of divebomb/whammy action, you will be pretty much fine
