Hi folks,

I'm looking for my next guitar, the price should be around 2300€. Even though it will probably be a Fender Strat as I just sold mine, I'm open for suggestions ! For a bit of context, I play on a Fender Strat Am Pro Fiesta Red with a solid rosewood neck (sold), a Gibson Explorer '76 Reissue and a Brian May Red Special. Amps are Orange Rocker Terror 15 with an Orange PPC212 and a Vox MV50 Brian May (plugged to the PPC212, that little amp is a bloody monster).

I'm usually looking for exotic strats, those FSR, limited edition, rarities but I also like the new American Vintage II (especially the Fiesta Red one, which looks really similar to mine). Sadly, my budget is a bit too tight for a Custom Shop, even though some used ones are kinda reachable. And btw, I'm absolutely okay with used guitars as long as they're in good shape.

What would you suggest ? Don't hesitate to share what would be your choice, even if it's not a Fender. I'm really open to suggestions and I might love what you have in mind !

I don't know if you're a fan of final fantasy

A good idea indeed, I saw that one on Reddit a few times when it came out. Tbh, it seems to be a bit underwhelming in real life as the colours aren't as visible as the pictures. But that's a heckin cool one, I do agree. The fact I'm not really into FF doesn't help haha

It it has a push pull pot

So you can go to 11

Guess that music man can fit in that price range too

#

but, If I had that money and I didn't know what to do ... I'd probably go to store and try guitars laying around

I'm a huge huge fan of Steve Lukather and the Luke series from Music Man. I got to try one 3 years ago and those are super guitars indeed. Not sure if it can replace a strat as both sound quite different, but I do agree that in that price range, Music Man would be a great alternative

I'd probably get Warmoth parts and have them assembled by an experienced luthier. Or I'd go straight to a luthier and talk to him about the specs of my dream guitar. Your budget would probably allow both options.

Warmoth are based in the US, shipping and taxes won't be cheap but I'm very sure that you won't stress your budget still. They can do pretty much everything when it comes to wood and paint jobs, all that in top notch quality.

#

In France there's this luthier called Cosmik Guitare, you might want to check out his stuff, his prices seem fair and I heard great things about his work.

Throwiing a different idea out there.. Ever thought about building a partscaster? I have many partscasters that I have built that play better than american strats and teles.. I use usa built bodies, fender custom shop pickups, warmoth necks, US made hardware.. you can get a sweet playing guitar for under 1k US for sure. Plus I find I am more 'in-tune' with my guitar as I know every aspect of feel and mechanics from the build.

The neck is arguably the most important part

I have bought a few "made outside of the US" bodies and have found that the neck pocket is never quite right and requires more luthier skills.. also cheaper bodies won't have trem, pickguard or neck pre-drills. Agree 100% on the neck. 75% of the cost of most of my builds end up being neck and pickups.

I mean doing woodwork on the body is a lot easier than doing the electronics

#

I wouldn't mess with doing woodwork on the neck though...

#

But let's say you have an SSS body, you can easily do the routing for an HSS as someone who has never done woodworking before, as long as you are careful

You should check out the David Lozeau art strats if you want really cool ones, you'd have to buy them used but they're pretty sweet.

what about a G&L USA Legacy, or S-500 model. Still made at the original Fender factory. Basically a custom shop guitar for the price of a standard USA Fender.

Sorry folks, didn’t see your messages. Thank you very much for these nice suggestions.

Partcaster is indeed a good idea but I keep that for later as a side project. I’m not a fan of these David Lozeau strats if I’m being honest. I’ll keep it simple

As for now, I have my mind sets on these two :

#

Fender American Pro Desert Sand with solid rosewood neck (well, the exact same one that I sold… except it was Fiesta Red)

#

Either the Fender 50th anniversary of the Mary Kaye (2007) or the American Original ‘50s Mary Kaye limited edition (those are basically +/- the same)

#

I know the Mary Kaye is a very popular guitar we’ve seen many times, but I still believe it’s an absolute beauty

#

Now I’ll head to the G&L website 👀

Those do look fantastic.

#

I am going to do an LP kit guitar in fiesta red with a mint guard. I lioe fiesta red color.

#

Love the combo Fiesta Red/Mint pickguard, that’s what my strat had. It looks really great

#

I agree there on those colors for sure. Best of luck in your search. Keep us advised, i am sure you will get a good one.

Thank you ! I’ll definitely post some pics once I receive the new one, whatever it is.

Those are the single coil guitars i like

#

Or you can get something with p90s they are single coils after all

trail coyote
#

you can tweak JM pickups to sound like either p90s, low output humbuckers or tele pickups pretty easily, they struggle with the strat sound but you can EQ it in

#

the bridge pickup especially is super tweakable

#

with right amounts of compression and some eq

#

theyre easily the most jack of all trades single coil except they are very much a master of their base sound

frail nimbus
#

If you wanted a single coil guitar

trail coyote
#

i own two jazzmasters so im biased

#

as someone whos over 6' tall also i wouldnt buy a telecaster

#

theyre just tiny

frail nimbus
#

I will make a post so fellars here can help

#

Because a friend from the US offered me to get me one and i want a single coil guitar and these 2 are the ones in my mind

#

Both classic vibe ones
