Deftones isn't a stoner band, but Tool definitely is. Everything about the band relates to spirituality and it's further reinforced by Alex Grey's art and philosophy.

I think by association it would be a stoner band. Atleast in the sense of who listens to it, less of the genre. Same way that Smash mouth is and always will be the Shrek band despite not writing about Shrek or anything ogre related
