I think Metallica does have good songwriting, but Megadeth's is a lot less traditional, which makes their structure much more interesting. I think when dave hits on all cylinders, he can also write some superb lyrics, like In My Darkest Hour, Devil's Island, Rust In Peace...Polaris, Set the World Afire and so on. Metallica and Megadeth just write songs in completely different ways.

I think Metallica's songs have more of a personality and uniqueness to them than megadeths songs. Megadeths songwriting is usually subverted by terrible mustaine vocals
