#Film Photography - Colour Study
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Photos from my latest rolls of film, a trip down to some of the coastal areas of Sydney
Since it was a colour study I had to pick a film that I'd focus on, my choice was Portra 400 since I have an abundance of it at the moment, I've always found that Portra 400 has leant towards a green/blue tone naturally so I had to give it a shot where I gave it absurd amounts of blue
My photos always tends to lean towards the warmer tones since that's just how I like my photos, also I almost always overexpose by a half stop or a full stop which gives it that blown highlights look
Didn't use my CineBloom filter as usual since I wanted a clear photo of exactly how the colours would respond to blue in different lighting conditions
Pretty happy with it overall, probably should do another colour study soon since it helps me choose a subject quicker
These are all amazing!
When you do a colour study in pink/red I might steal one for wallpaper purposes
I think is the pinkest photo I have on hand
all of them are so wallpaper worthy
can i yoinky doink one of them?
fo sho my brother
thanks guac 😎
They really are! I just don’t like blue too much 🙈
I love the aesthetic of this, but I am not a fan of writing on my phone wallpapers
I think everything else in my library is green 💀
yeah I'll be doing a red colour study soon when I head up to this cool garden
For now my wallpaper of cherry blossoms with snow

I can't find any cherry blossoms near me
I think there's a few in canberra
that's a 3 hour drive to get there so no thanks
i'll take the flight to japan instead
If you go back on my insta you can see my campus. Cherry blossoms every year
And my village also has some, but this year I couldn’t take any good pics because of the snow
This is freaking fire
😎
nice makes me feel good tbh
i should really post more on instagram but i get lazy
Ur portra give it to me
yeah you can have it, i don’t even like portra ðŸ˜
Oof that's rough, how many rolls you got?
What don't you like about it?
30(?) give or take
Portra 400 is great for taking portraits obviously, literally in the name portra
but I don’t really take portraits at all
so there’s other film stocks that’s more suitable to my type of photography
like I’ve used portra for portraits and they’ve came out how I’ve wanted
and i appreciate the film for that
but generally I find it too much of a crutch or that its tone doesn’t match my style of photography
Why did you buy so much? Did you buy them before 2020?
Just edit it?
editing is a hit or miss with film
some people like it some people despise it
i’m in the middle where i fix up sharpness, white balance and tone balances
so aside from that
different stocks give you different results
meaning not all edits are the same
if i get a natural warm tone from ektar
i’m not getting the same natural warm tone w digital processing afterwards
and more to the point, why shoot film if you’re just gonna edit it anyways
just chuck a film grain on top of your digital photo
and you’ll get what you want
AAAAAND to add it on top
i shoot low speed or high speed film preferably
so portra 160 or 800 and 800 pushed 1 stop is fine
400 just doesn’t suit my needs
and that is why i don’t like portra 400

i still use it
but it’s not my go to
my go to is always ektar 100
Cause film has always been edited
it hasn’t always been edited
most film photogs I know and myself included prefer not to edit our film
i dunno rather use my skills as a photographer
than to edit in post
Darkroom, burning dodging, different chemicals in development or printing, different RGB values, different paper than the same as film stock
yeah but again that’s not the same as digitally altering your photo
Film photography classes even had students scan and use photoshop as well once that became more accessible. The show just the inverted scanned image is more or less since the resurgence of film
Editing is anything in post, hell even inverting is editing since you can get different results for various inversion methods
Low key think it's popular cause people are lazy, I say this as a person who is also super lazy
The fuji presets are so good I honestly just use those and add a vignette now.
🔫😔 now give me ur ektar
i dunno i just mix it up depending on what nlp suggests
like sometimes using a fuji inversion on ektar gives u a nice colour shift
but no ektar is life
i have some fuji pro 400h to go through still
I wanted to do color film, but the cost is too much for me, I just roll BW. I am glad I never got into medium format
Did you buy that before or after they quit making it?
