It’s more about the first two, but I’ve seen that the fandom thinks that these cars are really bad, when they’re in fact not when you see eace results, why is that ? (I assume that Merc lacks straight line speed and Ferrari lacks reliability, but is there anything more ?)

It's a relative thing, because really bad is not first. If the standard of achieving is first, then anything below that is pretty bad.
That said, you might have to take into account that it might be overreacting and it is clever to use the context of the previous seasons to see where the team started from relatively in the pecking order.

Yep, it is all very relative and subjective, IMO mostly based on:

  • Are they winning?
  • How did they do in recent seasons, especially the last one?
  • How prestigious is the team is perceived to be?

So in short you have:

  1. Ferrari: The most prestigious team on the roster with the most history, did well with new regulations and was even WDC contender in 2022, falling off a proverbial cliff mid-2022, and then this year they're generally not even legitimately challenging RB for race wins anymore.
  2. Mercedes: 8-times WCC, 7-times WDC, utterly dominant run from 2014 to 2020 and arguably should have won 2021 WDC, and yet non-stop struggles under 2022 regulations and seemingly not even knowing how to improve
  3. McLaren: Solid upper-midfield and potential best-of-the-rest until 2021 (had 1 win that year, and could've been 2), really struggled under 2022 regulations, only rebounded mid-2023

All three are currently best-of-the-rest contenders, but they're not quite living down the stigma from recent failures yet.

tl;dr IMO the sentiment behind this is "They're not the slowest cars, but these are great teams with great drivers behind the wheels, and they should've ----ing done better"

All these teams have dominated F1 at some point. The 1st two teams have just dropped the ball really hard, considering Mercedes dominated F1 7 years straight. No team had such a long period of domination ever before. They also have a driver pairing which doesn't deserve the car they have. Their fall from glory hasn't been easy for their fans. It gets worse when we remember how lewis was robbed in AD21 (Although as a Hamilton fan, I agree Verstappen was better that season)

Ferrari is the most successful team in F1 and when they fail to perform, they have to bear the wrath of their own country, Italy. No other team faces that. They also are on a championship drought of 15-16 years. Last and not the least, they have more resources than any other team to build a great car.

It certainly doesn't help that these 2 have such a huge stature in F1. Not to mention they're 1 second behind red bull in race pace. It's an unacceptable and a massive gap for their standards.

Coming to McLaren, they have not won a championship since 2008 as well. They fell of a cliff last decade and although they have shown improvement in past few years, they still have suffered obstacles and hiccups which makes any McLaren fan worry (rightfully). They also have not won constructors since 98 too. It isn't a stat to be proud of for a team like McLaren. Although this year they have made a massive jump, the car is really tough to drive. (Danny Ricciardo can confirm) however they were horrible before Austria

Yeah so as I thought, it’s not that they have bad cars, but they just don’t perform as much as their name suggests
