Yeah, I‘ve heard of that too
But they‘ll have a hard time getting any sort of large equipment near Mariupol
just looked it up, Col. Oleksandr Motuzianyk of the ukrainian MoD said earlier today that it was indeed backfires attacking mariupol
according to cnn
I wouldn’t be surprised
At a certain point they might just decide to raze what‘s left of the city to the ground
it's a shame that such a beautiful aircraft is being used for genocide
also apparently this happened the other day https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/u36st5/someone_projected_the_ukrainian_flag_on_russian/
🤬 The Russians take the bodies of civilians from Mariupol to the crematoriums on the territory of the occupied Khartsyzsk (Donetsk region), where the bodies are burned to hide the crimes, said the Head of the Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.
guess Bucha made them learn how to clean up
fucking assholes
usa! usa!
Thing is biden loves drone striking so much he probably wont sign a bill that stops horrific war weapons
Re: #Shoigu possibly having another heart attack, wife (physician) notes that in Finland you would usually have checked for and treated other blockages while taking care of the first one...
His second heart giving up
either that guy is the most stressed human being in history or none of putin’s poisons are working
He has two Hearts
Well yes lizards do
The commander of cruiser "Moskva", Anton Kuprin, died during explosion and fire on board. This was reported by the adviser to Minister of Internal Affairs of #Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko.
Captain Anton Kuprin gave the order to bombard #Snake Island on the first day of the war.

@copper monolith
@scarlet crownanother bozo bites the dust
Deserved
its not just the us tho
moskva went exactly where the snake island garrison told them to go
bet those boys are now celebrating, knowing that the ship that almost ended their lives is at the bottom of the sea
So How is the war looking who do you thinks going to win at this rate
hard to tell, obviously everyone here is rooting for Ukraine
the demented fuck in the Kremlin is raging mad cuz his lil boat was sunk, and now he's bombing Kyiv again
and now Russia's mobilising forces in the east to get some sort of "victory" before the annual jerkoff parade
define "winning"
uk rejoining eu, coolcon
depends on what you mean by “win”. i do think the war will end in favor of ukraine but it’s hard to say if it will definitively be a victory for them
you could define a win as just surviving, but you could also define "win" as pre-war border
or you could define "win" as pre-2014 borders
personally i’d define a “victory” as pre-2014 borders, but i think that’s unlikely
either way, the war is still a complete catastrophe for russia
theres scales of victory
absolute victory
BREAKING: Russian warship Moskva may have been carrying 2 nuclear warheads when it was sunk by a Ukrainian missile strike yesterday. Intel and news reports conflicting. This is a huge story to watch.
5457
1662
2 nuclear warheads possibly now sat in the black sea
:)
@TristanSnell Just check with a person with knowledge of nuclear war heads. They are not reactors and can only contaminate when they explode. If they were on the ship, they are now buried at sea. My concern is that Russia may have been planning to use them on Ukraine.
108
@TBates314 @TristanSnell FWIW, US doesn’t currently have tactical nukes in service, but before the US retired its nuclear Tomahawk cruise missile fleet they were regularly on US missile cruisers and cruise-missile-armed subs. Even created diplomatic issues in US port calls of nations with nuke bans.
No risk of contamination, nor was it carrying them out of the ordinary
but if it was carrying warheads
then this is gonna be a scramble to recover
if ukraine grabs them it'll be a huge deterrent
eh
ukraine doesn't have either detonation/storage/maintenance capabilities
at least, I think
how would they even use those warheads? did the Moskva have rocket launching platforms?
It was a missile cruiser
so nuclear tipped missiles
possibly land missiles, possibly sea
makes me wonder if Russia has actual tactical nukes ready to be used
They probably store them casually on the ship just because it's an important one
they for sure didn't expect them like sinking
nations always keep a nuclear deterrent on the seas
rn Britain, France, Russia, America all have submarines somewhere in the world
I regret leaving my room for a min, overheard Russian propaganda say, and I quote, "despite Joe Biden saying that there is genocide happening on the Ukrainian soil, the British intelligence has not found any proof on that"
sailing round with nuclear missiles
"despite the Americans saying Russians are genociding ukranians the Russians quote that the brits find no evidence"
that's a rollercoaster
i subject myself to the worst mindfucks every time I leave me room and overhear the shit my dad listens to on his pc, laptop and tv lmao
My grandparents manage to find the same content on YouTube
oh god i know that feeling so well
Soloviev might be gone from YTA but there’s plenty of channels who say the exact same things
meanwhile my dad just defends the tories daily racism on BBC news
I hate sitting down for breakfast and seeing him put the news on
he always tried to get me to agree with him
in my head I'm like
my parents be watching qanon shit on bitchute
"no I'm not gonna agree we should drown starving Syrian children"
meanwhile my mother is sick to death of me telling her the news and what thing the government did today
The summary here is parents shouldn't be allowed access to Internet.
Same
what if you're aro ace
aye then you're allowed
Yeah, but that‘s not a new thing
he's been shouting about it since February
They‘ve been threatening strikes on trucks carrying arms from the first week of the war
putin openly threatens joining the war, so rather people aide the effort
Hey, at least you're ensuring every ukranian shelter, even if not ideal
far better then the uk situation...
i'm glad we have some shelter at least
i was upset at the fact only 50% of the accomodations were suitable but i'm glad theres somehwere for people
it do be one rule of the internet 😏
lmfao
seperate note let's do this for homeless people too
nobody on the streets, make the government a crap load of money
based
Finland gave every homeless person a free apartment
instead of cutting homeless people in half, the UK gov should give them a bed instead
It made a net benefit for the state
People with house = get job = pay taxes + don't take welfare
also people on the streets get ill a lot more and go to govt healthcare
i know there are some forms of things for homeless people here but the government doesnt do much at all, really hope to god they start it as otherwise i fear that there may be hate crimes
😔
time to make arm rests on every bench
time to remove bench from bus stations and put in the stupid sloped shit nobody can use

still thinking of that one councillor from galway who tried to make anti homeless benches and make it as "wheelchair friendly"
that's horrible
I fucking hate anti homeless (and, similarly, anti teenager) architecture
so much
its cruelty for the sake of cruelty
anti teenager?
from about 2000 onwards
though it petered off after abouts 2010
the uk had a craze "anti-teenager" panic
I agree it's just so bad, I have seen previous week in a mall some chairs that were the most uncomfortable ones I have seen in my life
Installed everywhere were high pitched alarms
the consequence of anti teenager behaviour is it led to an uptick in antisocial behaviour and a decline in sales
which people over the age of ~20 couldn't here
but for teenagers caused significant pain
uh what
meant to "deter teenagers loitering"
also, to add to that, it means that teenagers who should've been allowed to go outside now are online 24/7
how does high pitched alarms actually work?
The Mosquito or Mosquito alarm is a machine used to deter loitering by emitting sound at high frequency. In some versions, it is intentionally tuned to be heard primarily by younger people. The devices have attracted controversy on the basis of human rights and discrimination concerns.
Nicknamed "Mosquito" for the buzzing sound it plays, the dev...
as humans get older
the range of frequencies they can hear shrink
I can still hear upto 17, 18khz
my dad can only hear 13,14,15khz
No I meant like when it actually activates
it releases a very high pitched loud sound
I played the ringtone on the page and it wasn't that bad, am I old
I'm autistic and very sensitive to loud frequencies so it affects me disproportionately
but I physically flinched when I heard it
also huh never seen this, even on my trips to the UK when I was a teen
i cant hear it because i have tinnitus
and I had my volume very low
I just played it and holy crap that hurts
yeah
oh no
Do people turn them on just for fun orwhen something happens?
and if something happens then what?
wow that's shitty
a. To stand idly about; linger without any purpose.
b. Law To violate a law or ordinance that prohibits persons from remaining in a given location without a clear purpose for an extended period of time, especially when behaving in a manner indicating a possible threat to persons or property in the vicinity.
???
Yeah
They passed a new type of criminal punishment
Anti-Social behaviour orders
ABO's for short
nothing's more anti social than standing
which were handed out willy nilly to teenagers
Causes for these include
Loitering
Rudeness
Spitting
begging
James bond, licence to stand around and not do anything in particular
yeah they fucking suck
can confirm
more reasons to dislike
Britainthe British authorities
Oh yeah they gave a woman an antisocial behaviour order
for attempting suicide
bri'ian
can't clear my throat hell yeah
sorry but who are the authorities formed from
These ABOs lasted from 1998-2014
...
ok y'know what sure, just hate everyone here regardless of whether they've actually done anything, that's the best course of action
the fucking toffs
oi bruv, toim to drink me wa'er with biskuits
????
the uk had a load of veterans returning from the napoleon's wars
sooo instead of helping them
we let them become homeless
then lock them up and force them to work
you say "we" as if the commoners had any say in the matter
But yeah ABOs massive disprortionately targeted young people with disabilities
and had the main effect of seemingly criminalising being outside as a teenager
The number one task is to speed up the restoration of peace. Our Armed Forces are doing it brilliantly. They are repelling the occupiers' attacks. They are carrying out counterattacks. Our diplomats must continue their activity in all possible directions, at all possible levels. Both official and unofficial.
The next package of sanctions against...

Man I don't fucking get why loitering is illegal (in some places/areas)
why should it be a crime for me to... stand in an area for an extended period of time
literally 1984
unironically
man what's worse than being born in Britain
a man just... runs around without any weapon, and I assume the recorder is also without weapons

this war is so surreal
Their army is both fucking hilarious and damn despicable at the same time
close to 0 war competence, yet so violent towards civilians
shooting at people who can't shoot back is easy
It's hard to even talk about their strategic goals because more and more it seems like a game of "destroy the most shit while we can before we get our asses torn off"
they're just getting fucked, big time, no idea what the fuck they're even thinking of. If the usual "we will win" was a morale boost at the start, now it's a more than true statement
can't wait to wake up one day to that damned empire crashing down
gg
its clear that russia's goals in this have massively changed, not just strategically but on a political scale
no longer is this about making ukraine more pro russia
or even trying to control the donbas region
its about trying to prove that russia is still a great power
Yeah I don’t think they are at all
ukraine is not a particularly powerful country
for a self-proclaimed great power like russia to be so incredibly stalled doesnt do any favors to the country's image
Fuck that noise made me flinch too
What a strange way to stop loitering of all things
Now thats art
I wonder if thats the mcdonalds logo on the red stripe

In Mariupol, Russia’s troops tell locals they’ll close the town completely, ban movement within it to filtrate 100% of male residents. Some men will be forced to join RU troops, others to clear the rubble, the rest will be detained - aide to Mariupol mayor Petro Andryishchenko

It's been more than 48hrs since the Moskva sank with 500 people aboard. We still haven't seen any photos/videos of the rescued crew.
What is most stunning we haven't seen a single wife or mother going public about the loss, demanding answers from the Russian government.

Mariupol
Looks real fucking grim there
Admittedly I have barely been up to date on the war
Its grim
Yeah, there still seems to be some Ukrainian units left, but the Russians seem to be very scared of a resistance forming too and from what I‘ve heard, things might get worse after this weekend as supposedly the entire town will be locked down in order to find all military-age men
Oh god
Mariupol right now is living hell
There is no city Mariupol anymore, just the territory
And ruins
Once one of the fastest developing cities in Ukraine
Turned into dust by russian "liberators"
what the heck happened in Mariupol?
Russia
I heard so many bad things in the past 2 weeks but didn't see like any images
I mean of course but I meant like how bad is it compared to like other cities?
When I hear like entire town being locked and stuff it feels really like a living hell
the entire city is just gone
oh you spared soul
It's just gone
Corpses laying in the streets
burials in parks
Constant shellings
People starving in shelters
It is living hell
All man-made by russians
tldr: a prolonged, very bloody siege, urban warfare
combined with a shit load of war crimes and disregard for human life

holy shit
I didn't know it was THAT bad
actually that isn't even considered bad, that's considered horrific
who's Kadyrov?

The estimate for civilian causalities in Mariupol is 21,000 dead (as of April 12th according to the Mayor of Mariupol).
"Boychenko [the mayor of Mariupol] cited a Ukrainian government estimate of "from 20,000 to 30,000" Mariupol residents having been forcibly sent to territory under Russian control." (Mar 27th)
i mean it's less than 100%, that's pretty good by ~~rigged ~~election standards

This is the story of a civilian Ukrainian who survived the Russian occupation of Mariupol and managed to escape from Putin's soldiers. He tells the truth about what is happening in the city and the role of the AZOV regiment in defending Mariupol.

Why are Russian soldiers so cruel to Ukrainians? The answer is propaganda. On Russian television (which is 100% state-funded), Kremlin speakers say "the genocide of Ukrainians must be committed." They have gone completely insane in Russia.
English subtitles have been added to their broadcast.

He makes some good points about Minsk accords and Germany‘s role in them, but I highly disagree with his conclusions
Gabriel says that blaming Steinmeier for creating a network of Russian contacts in Germany is "untrue and evil"
And somehow he still believes that this war is only about the Russian minority in the Donbas region
You can sum up the last paragraphs with "Tanks are bad, we need to think about our future relationship with Russia and sending heavy arms might not help with that"
Yeah, and another noticeable thing is that he only speaks of "us being responsible"
He doesn’t mention a single mistake he personally made
Oswald mosely type argument
Even though he was in the government right when the Crimea annexation happened and after
Yup, but I believe that his entire argument is based on him thinking that Russia just wants to protect the minorities in the Donbas
"don't call the police on the bank robber with a gun to your nan's head, we need to think about our future with the robbers"
That‘s why he also says that we have to put ourselves in Russia‘s shoes etc.
That sums it up quite well
And the thing that bugs me the most is that he expresses more outrage with the behaviour of Ukraine‘s foreign office than with the war itself
i love spinelessness!!! it really isn't destroying everything right now!!!
He accuses them of spreading conspiracy theories about German politics
The title is:
Sigmar Gabriel: We need a cold peace
The Ukrainian foreign minister has demanded more German leadership in the SPIEGEL newspaper. However that can’t mean that Berlin simply accepts every demand or conspiracy theory from Kyiv, concurs Sigmar Gabriel
ah
I started to read the article but gave up about 1/2 in
yeah that guy is almost certainly a putin puppet
still feeling shitty with covid today 😔
It’s mostly indirectly blaming Ukraine for not following through with the Minsk accords and them being not thankful enough for what Germany has done for them
Aw, I hope you get well soon!
oooh
With the minsk accords, thing is
its the type of agreement that entirely falls apart
when one party fires one shot

and amongst the ukraine army, the Russians, the donbass rebels, independent fighters
someone fired a shot
and it fell apart 12seconds after being signed

🔺 EXCLUSIVE: British special forces have trained local troops in Kyiv for the first time since the war with Russia began, Ukrainian commanders have told The Times https://t.co/SH3GtYkHAZ

🗣 “We have received huge military help from Britain. But the people who knew how to use NLAWs were in other places, so we had to go on YouTube to teach ourselves. You can learn in seven minutes, five to seven minutes”
🗣 “After that we had good training. British officers were here two weeks ago in our unit and they trained us really good. And because we have had successes, we have self-confidence now”
This video explains quite well that if Putin somehow gets assassinated then it still won't change anything because that power group will just put another of their assets

This is wrong. Russia chose to not modernize the Moskva (like the Admiral Nakhimov), it received some repairs to basically extend its service life. It had aging Osa-MA and S-300F systems, which are not Russia's most advanced naval air defense systems, and didn't have new CIWS.
2365
376
This is a very important case study for naval warfare, so these details are important. The Moskva was not well-equipped to handle new anti-ship missiles. One potential lesson is that large, non-modernized ships without modern air defenses are a liability in modern naval warfare.
2188
224
So we should be cautious about concluding too much from this episode and what it tells us about the threat posed by Chinese anti-ship missiles to US Navy ships with more modern CIWS and air defense systems. The Moskva had 1970-1980s-era air defenses. 3/

Things are looking out pretty good for Odessa
Today will be an attempt to demine the coast
It has to do with minimal threats of paratroopers being sent in and us recieving weapons so strong that they won't even have a chance to get near land
The city centre no longer has anti-tank obstacles either
seems like the only threat would be rocket strikes, but even those became less likely due to Moskva sinking
as you can see on the map, we've also managed to counterattack in the east a bit

Seems like a good day for Ukraine

Hmm
Ik america has sent the most in pure money terms
but I wonder who's sent the most relative to their military budget
hmm I wonder too
be an eastern european country deffo
Yeah, even the latest shipment alone is huge
the US military gets like $820bn a year or smth daft like that
so yeah they better be sending huge shipments
Afaik Germany has even sent less humanitarian supplies than Estonia
pain
They‘ve mainly focused on providing money to the central bank
Which is great, but something that will come in handy when the war is over, not now
The US spends a huge amount of money on contractors
height is per capita, across is pure numbers
A lot of military units are supplied by private logistics companies
ye
It doesn’t seem like the spending is PPP adjusted tho
true
I just spend a while sifting through German media and sadly it seems like a lot of people agree with Gabriel
Polls show that a majority supports arms deliveries to Ukraine, but at the same time there‘s a certain war tiredness kicking in, along with a perceived ungratefulness
perceived ungratefulness?
A lot of German politicians are very upset about Steinmeier‘s visit to Kyiv being cancelled
And now they accuse the Ukrainian government of not being grateful enough for the support Germany is providing for them
the ungratefulness argument really annoys me
said support: 🦗
Or like Gabriel, not being grateful enough for what Germany has done in the past 🤠
It's not a "gift" to ukraine, its our moral duty to help them ffs
I don’t know how Gabriel can say with a straight face that Germany has been Ukraine’s biggest supporter
Like
Yup, but this is all incredibly emotionally loaded
yeah
The language they use is very peculiar too
It’s almost seen as an insult to "German greatness"
German greatness
oh boy not again

It's for the best

idk where to even begin, while cleaning up the apartment I was subjected to listening to the most... how do I put it in the most rule friendly terms
dumbfuck propaganda, like it's so fucking stupid
they were also interviewing the "Ukrainian opposition" politician Viktor Medvedchuk who talked about how Poroshenko was scared of the nazis, but Zelenskyy uses them to gain control of the country, and "is ready to tattoo a swastika on his chest"
He’s literally Jewish wtf
they talked about how Zelenskyy was shooting a Kvartal 95 episode in the form of the massacre at Bucha, with telling actors where to lie before taking images and shit
and, "when even the butchers in the west didn't believe him", a Tochka-U was used by the Ukrainian army, and was launched from the Ukrainian territory
and in that part they said Russia doesn't operate the missile???
at that point I was so tired of that fucking dumbass shit I just paused the broadcast until I was done cleaning
There were so many of those posts when that terrorist strike at that train station happened
A lot were also saying that the direction in which the launcher, not the payload landed proved taht it came from Ukraine

this got posted in another server, the translation is basically that a ukrainian bartender in spain was beaten by russian tourists after greeting them with “glory to ukraine!”, was wondering what everyone’s thoughts on this was. this may be a hot take, the russians were obv pieces of shit, but people really shouldn’t go around assuming every russian is a nazi (even if this guy was right), it’s unfair to the russians that don’t support the war and it just gives ammunition to russian propagandists https://twitter.com/_A_Vit_/status/1515333563742367750

i mean i despise the chinese government and basically everything they’re doing, but i don’t go around assuming everyone from china is a ccp fanatic who supports genocide against uyghurs
I don't see where "he assumed they were nazis" comes from
i don’t think he said “glory to ukraine” because he thought they were good people
i mean maybe we’re not getting the full picture here, but from the info we have it’s not a great look for the bartender to say this to random people
He said glory to ukraine as a general statement not because he thought they were good or bad but because they were russian
You shouldnt shout that at any russian you see
Those Russians may be staunchly against the war, they may have dead relatives
^^^^
it wouldn't be right to go round in 1940 USA screaming "God save the Queen" to any German you see
or screaming "the Falklands are british" to an Argentinian
Yeah, it ranges from pointless to shitty
(of course, incase its needed to say, beating someone up for that is an unjustified escalation, and wrong)
Agreed
at this point “glory to ukraine” has a failry strong anti-russian connotation. even if the connotation is 100% justified, people really shouldn’t say that to random people from russia that they know nothing about

how many sailors died?
not known
the kremlin will not release any data
there are guesstimates but they are very vague
there was an apparent parade of survivors

`The Russian defence ministry has published images showing what it says is the crew of the warship Moskva - the first time any sailors from the ship have been seen since its sinking.
A large group of sailors is seen on parade in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, met by Navy Commander-in-Chief Adm Nikolay Yevmenov.`
`The video shows Adm Yevmenov and two other officers standing on a parade ground in front of about 100 sailors.
It is not clear when the meeting took place.`

Heavy large-caliber shelling reported at Kharkiv and Mykolaiv, as well as at most Ukrainian positions in Luhansk and Donetsk. Clearly Russia tonight has started the new stage of the war - with one front only, focused on Eastern Ukraine.
2078
860
⚡️BREAKING: Battle of Donbas starts.
Zelensky said that Russia had concentrated a significant part of its forces for the offensive in eastern Ukraine.
“No matter how many soldiers are drawn there, we will defend ourselves. We will fight. We will not give up anything Ukrainian.”
1561
417
German media is reporting it too
send your prayers folks

Does this count as a new separate phase of the war?
yeah
first phase was trying to take over Kyiv asap and other areas, and when that failed spectacularly (the kyiv part at least), this is now a čnd one
hopefully the Russian forces won't make significant gains in the eastern oblasts.
😬
do note, it's possible a lot of the logistic problems faced by the Russian forces will have been ironed out.
Yeah, the American intelligence briefing for today mentioned a lot more supply units
how's the weather forecast looking like in eastern Ukraine too?
I don't think there'll be the same wet weather bogging down Russian armour and convoys like back in early March.
wet
Yeah
a lot of wetness indeed
that's rather fortunate - not sure why the Russian forces are renewing the offensive in wet weather though...
even the weather wants russia to go fuck itself lol
Maybe they‘ll stick to roads this time
They‘ve got a new commander who‘s supposedly a lot more old-fashioned in terms of strategy
then you bomb the front vehicle of their convoy
the weather gods hate them; deserved
True
perhaps Russian high command doesn't want to wait any longer considering more arms reach the Ukrainian defenders the longer they stall.
feels very much that the Russians are fighting a disadvantaged war at this point, which only becomes more and more disadvantaged as time goes on.
They‘ll either need results or a very good reason to continue by then
who?
ukraine or russia
Russia
they had all the advantages
The issue is still that Russia has a lot more raw manpower and also the ability to use bombers
sure but would Russian conscripts want to fight in such a war?
Conscripts are already being used
That’s true
yes, but the more the Russian forces rely on conscripts the less disciplined and organised their army becomes
with the new offensive i think their only goal now is jsut to occupy the donbas region
As far as I know most units don’t entirely consist of conscripts, but that is a valid point
Probably, though it‘s seen as likely that if that offensive succeeds, they‘ll move over to Kyiv
lots of brainwashed people, or those that are afraid to speak out
that's the primary goal, but the Russian force will seek to encircle the defenders in the Donbas to cut off supplies and reinforcements - as well as to establish a buffer zone to be traded at the negotiation table.
occupy donbas -> proclaim that you "liberated the oppressed russians" there -> say that was your goal the entire time -> claim victory -> use that for propaganda
basically
@copper monolith brainwashed ignorant soldiers and fearful soldiers, tend not to be particularly good fighters... and the true nature of the war eventually gets back home. (think of the Soviet-Afghan War, or the Vietnam War)
the level of propaganda
can't be compared to the vietnam war
and the soviet afghan war only ended because the soviet union was already falling apart
young soldiers are the ones sent to fight the war, they're generally the most cynical towards the Russian state's narrative and unlike during the vietnam war or the soviet-afghan war the internet and social media offer a bypass (particularly with a VPN) around the propaganda machines of old
yeeep
i said this a few weeks ago, would not surprise me at all
I wonder let’s say if Russia successfully “liberates” the two regions in Donbas should they just stop there
Russia would likely try to sue for peace after fully occupying the Luhansk on Donetsk oblasts. I don't see Russian forces trying to push their luck beyond that objective.
"sue for peace" is the correct term
ofc if you're talking propaganda back home yes, the Russians would declare the nazis vanquished the oppressed liberated and an everlasting peace back home.
Suing for", in this older sense of the phrase, means "pleading or petitioning for". Suing for peace is usually initiated by the losing party in an attempt to stave off an unconditional surrender. The nation holding the upper hand may find, in the losing party’s offer of making peace, an opportunity for relief from the necessity of having to continue to wage a costly war. Therefore, in this usage, the verb "to sue" means "to ask" or "to seek" rather than "to take legal action against".
Russia wouldn't ask to negotiate a peace deal, they'd declare "the war is over"

Has France’s election finished yet? Did he win?
Last thing we need is what her name is in charge
well LePen would move France towards neutrality in the Russo-Ukrainian war
She already talked about normalizing relations with Russia
Macron himself feels pressured to not send as much aid to Ukraine because of LePens position

Ah okay
I mean I’m not a fan of the current guy tbh but rather have him than her
Especially right now
indeed
Macrons fucking shite, but le pens worse
Yep
France and Germany aren't pulling their weight when it comes to supporting Ukraine tbh
I wish they did more
Hungary neither, but that was expected
germany's being a little bitch
Yeah but it’s Hungary
SPD politicians complaining about not being thanked enough
lmao
Hungary is one of those that could get kicked out of the EU
Orban could lose some funding from the EU
ye
I mean that’s a major blow if that happens regardless if they are still in the EU or not
Poland might lose funding as well, but that's less likely given their elections are still fair
and a lot of eastern European/blatic EU states will back Poland up given their stance against Russia
funny really, Ukrainian and Polish relations have not only been repaired but have been consolidated the past 2 months
Then we got Sweden and Finland possibly joining NATO as soon as this summer
considering a less than cordial history between the two nations
meanwhile in Britain Bojo is likely going to be removed
by the conservatives that is
It’s weird because the UK technically doesn’t have a constitution it’s all built off of norms and past laws
it doesnt help the leader of labour, keir starmer, is god awful
there's talks of him being removed from Tory pamphlets and no mention of him in the upcoming by-election
Scotland 🏴 FOREVER
well Starmer is in a tricky position trying to move Labour back to the centre centre/right
Labour once again divided between the neo-blairites and pre-blarities
So Labour sounds like The democrats
labour can't succeed trying to "out right the conservatives"
Since a lot of people think the democrats are left XD yeah no they are center at best
1997 and 2022 are very different times
indeed
Left leaning parties have a hard time staying together because of in fighting
but the conservatives have sold out their old conservative values of law and order and low taxes for weird populist Brexit reasons (trying and succeeding in outflanking UKIP)
Splitters!
It’s because a lot of politicians don’t have backbones
we're in a weird situation where neither Labour nor the Conservative hold up to their original political values, and both parties are fractured into infighting factions.
meanwhile the Lib dems farm up seats in by-elections
Problem is, the older generation, and the media, will never associate labour as a conservative party, and the youth and getting more and more left wing
from disenfranchised tory voters.
so labour gets torn in half
trying to replicate blair
the youth split off the lib dems / greens
Does the UK have a Green Party?
the oldies vote tory / ukip / reform
yes
Oh well there you go
the reason why blair worked was because of the close relation between blair and brown
brown was old social democract
green and SNP have about the same votes, 1 has 1 seat and one has about 45
democracy!
SNP 🏴
well Green is kinda irrel, mainly because they have radical policies such as pacifism, anti-nuke and anti-nuclear power
and first past the post is not fair to them
The scary thing is you wonder how much is being influenced by outside parties like Russia
if the Greens compromised on those policies they might be electable
the SNP only runs in Scotland, while the Greens run all over the UK
The green party is about the only one I could consider voting for
ikik
Anti nuclear power is so dumb for a green part :/
monster raving looney party?
Party
but most likely I'll just draw penises over the ballot
Hey at least that’s more choices than I the US
anyway as i was saying Blair's government worked because the man was charismatic and he placated the unions with Prescot, and the left-wing of the party with Brown.
Where we have 0 left leaning parties
mainly as they're one of the few parties that actually cares at all about trans people
SNP are okay but I'm not scottish
🏴
SNP actually have competent leadership, but they're trying to split the union
I wonder what would have happened to brexit if they voted for independence
that would cause a lot of problems for my family who live between the lowlands and Northumbria
I do wonder if scotland would be allowed in the EU
absolutely they would be
Well Spain is the problem
Because of Cartolnia (can’t spell mobile)
Catalonia
The nation that was like yep we are independent…on second thought
"We want to be independent"
"No"
"We're having a referendum"
"No"
"We're declaring independence"
"No"
Catalonia and the Basque country
And plus Catalonia isn’t even the only region in Spain that they are worried about leaving
Yep
I mean I wish the peoples right to self determination under the UN charter was respected but :/ nope
The Basque conflict, also known as the Spain–ETA conflict, was an armed and political conflict from 1959 to 2011 between Spain and the Basque National Liberation Movement, a group of social and political Basque organizations which sought independence from Spain and France. The movement was built around the separatist organization ETA, which had ...
There’s also those islands
Although the debate on Basque independence started in the 19th century, the armed conflict did not start until ETA was created in 1959. Since then, the conflict resulted in the deaths of more than 1,000 people, including police and security officers, members of the armed forces, Spanish politicians, journalists and civilians and some ETA members. There also were thousands of people injured, dozens kidnapped and a disputed number going into exile, either to flee from the violence or to avoid capture by Spanish or French police or by Europol/Interpol.
What are the islands called
Balearics?
Starts with a c I think
aka. the british holiday resorts
Then you have other independent movements where it’s like yay independent then nom
Crimea and Russia
Lasted a bit longer than Catalonia at least
hmmm
Something like 3 hours or something
there's peaceful democratic independence movements, there's violent uprising kinds, and then there's the foreign backing proxy war kinds.
Yep
brb going to wales and voting Plaid Cyrmu
bruh
The sad thing is all 3 can have a legit group of people wanting independence but they are just pawns
most nations who have achieved independence have done so with outside backing
There’s also the one region in England that’s wanting to be accepted as a Nation in the UK
And they have such a cool flag
Cornwall?
the notable exceptions being the collapse of the British and French empires after the Suez crisis
Northumbria?
Cornwall
the north east is only after autonomy

Prince Charles can't afford to lose his estates
sure I could maybe see further decentralisation and recognition of the duchy of Cornwall as a separate part of the union
but also no
Yeah that’s mainly what they want to be recognized as a country of the UK
Instead of a county in England
Since they do have a different language and culture
I mean I bet there are some that are thinking about independence fully

US Army tanks
The military will always sell a contract to the lowest bidder
use windows XP
they pay Microsoft to keep supporting windows xp
older tech is reliable and isn't gonna have updates that risk breaking things
xp =/= vista
Its the same principle
Windows 10 is good and all then your pc needs to update while enemy fighters are overhead
or the update quietly breaks part of your tracking
US army computers are windows 10 but they are never connected to the internet so they’ll never update
What is holding the US Military back from upgrading from Windows XP to something like Windows 10? What operating system is most of the military still using? Will united states military every be able to fully upgrade their computers?

what happend in 2014 ?
The airplane MH17 got shot down. 298 dead 193 of which were dutch
At the time Russia didnt want to grant access to the crash site and it was later revealed that the government was even planning on sending in a force of about 1000 people if they kept getting denied access. Though it never came to that.
(MH17 was shot down by russian backed/armed rebels in the donbass, to be specific)
what the fuck
Olaf Scholz has just delivered a rather halting press statement digging in to his positions on Russia/Ukraine:
- German financial help for weapons purchases (but no heavy arms transfers)
- no German "going it alone"
- no change to existing timetable re phasing out Russian energy
