We are preparing for a massive Russian offensive push. Thanks to all your help I feel far more comfortable with our weaponry and vehicles. I am very concerned about ammunition shortage. I cannot believe the world at large is just not raining ammo for us.

@Yellow_Arm_Band Honestly on the small scale we need ammo, frag grenades, concussion grenades, light machine guns, claymore mines, some MA-2 .50 cals. We need some 4 wheel ATV’s or side by side UTV’s

this woman's pedalled kremlin propaganda for 8years
and is now embedded in german media
the EVIL us and their EVIL nato with the EVIL intent to protect nations from countries like russia
It’s so funny like Russia we both know the US does a lot of crap, you don’t need to start making stuff up
NO ONE IS WANTING TO INVADE RUSSIA
ooh the irony
now russia is actually weaker and nato is actually stronger
and more people want to join nato
if they had to resort to WMDs that just shows how crap their military is
like Russia this is just sad at this point, give up
Chemical weapons aren't wmd's
A weapon of mass destruction (WMD) is a nuclear, radiological, chemical, biological, or any other weapon that can kill and bring significant harm to numerous individuals or cause great damage to artificial structures (e.g., buildings), natural structures (e.g., mountains), or the biosphere. The scope and usage of the term has evolved and been disputed, often signifying more politically than technically. Originally coined in reference to aerial bombing with chemical explosives during World War II, it has later come to refer to large-scale weaponry of warfare-related technologies, such as chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear warfare.
brinf significant harm to numerous individuals and cause great damage to artifical structures
Some chemical weapons fall into this yea
others dont
some chemical weapons are WMDs but not all
Its an important distinction
bring significant harm to numerous individuals or cause great damage
for example, tear gas
is a chemical weapon
yet that fits not a single requirement of WMDs
and is illegal in warfare
I mean I'm just saying if Russia used it would most likely would be a WMD
Unlikely
imo
well, depends where you draw the line
but I doubt it'd be anything of significant magnitude, or harm beyond what a big bomb can do
I don't think they'll go to Syria level biochemical weapons yet
I mean if its something where you want to take over a city, chemical weapons are better than anything explosive
at least, I hope
true devastation is both
bomb the homes and shelters
gas the exposed people in the ruins
yeah but why damage property you could use after you take over the city
the only real reason to do both is for shock and awe
because... you can't take a city without destroying building
I mean you can
well
not against he levels of resistance in ukraine
when a large part of the populace is willing to give lifr and limb and withstand weeks and weeks of siege
urban war is hell
the biggest issue with chemical weapons is making sure you don't hit yourself
Russia used the combo in Syria, levelling cities and chemical attacks
to horrific resilts
fun fact did you know Russia announced to the OPCW that it's entire chemical weapons stockpile was destroyed in 2017 - _- yeah either they were lying or they were telling the truth...then
like half the nations in green will still have a major stockpile
ofc North Korea didn't sign it
I mean I don't believe Russia's for a second, but umm...US why is it 91%?
'murica moment
I like how the deadline was 2012 but it says intends by 2023...bruh
I know my assignment was due today but I'll turn it in 11 years :)

wait it only has 500 staff?
(all states party to the CWC are automatically members. 4 UN Member States are non-members: Egypt, Israel, North Korea and South Sudan)
bruh
I mean South Sudan is still new give them a break XD
joking ofc
fun fact: South Sudan turns 11 this year
Oh my it would seem that literally everyone legally using discord is older than South Sudan.
wait I just thought does that mean if South Sudan has an official Twitter account they are breaking TOS
i wonder where those soldiers who went into Chernobyl are now
The issue is that even if other countries buy those tanks, the ministry of the interior still has to approve it (which isn’t an issue), as well as Chancellor Scholz (which is an issue)
And Scholz has been consistently vetoing any kind of arms sale
Mainly on the grounds that "heavy equipment requires training"
I talked to a German soldier yesterday and he told me that they could easily train Ukrainian tank drivers to drive the Leopard tanks in a matter of weeks
they're shining
the curse of having 40% of your gas come from a dictatorship
A lot of Anti Aircraft stuff destroyed today.

We are approaching a period of getting used to the reality of war. The Ukraine war is quickly becoming a story of statistics. Apathy is knocking on our door. I cover conflicts for 11 years and saw the symptoms many times. This is what authoritarianism hopes for.

and that seems to be what ukraines done
no shit sherlock

now he's gonna enjoy getting fucked in court
have we heard any updates on the possible chemical weapons use?
oh OPCW gave a statement, that's not good
yeah it's pretty hard to confirm because the entire city is well
Blocked off
all we know is that soldiers got sick from whatever that attack was
So i feel that it's very likely true
if we still have any spare m60 tanks in storage, i think now would be an excellent time to send them considering what the marines did with them against t-72s in iraq
💀
From what I‘ve read, there is simply a lack of evidence at this point. The best way to prove it would be a sample of the toxin or a blood sample, but judging from the symptoms and how it happened alone, it supposedly seems more likely that there was some sort of explosion in the steel plant they are hiding in which is full of chemicals anyways, or that phosphorus munitions were used
That would make sense, I mean ofc it seems dumb to do this invasion in the first place, but I feel like they wouldn’t escalate it that fear, at least I hope
Yeah, though even if this is not a case of chemical weapons use, the potential is definitely there
The Russian MoD has quite a few nerve agents in their arsenal
Oh yeah no doubts about that
Also this just came out, and it‘s not just Scholz who is blocking arms deliveries, but his entire party
The one thing that does help is how close to Russia and Russian personnel it would be if they did unlike in Syria
Politicians from the SPD are disagreeing on how to react to Ukraine‘s request for the delivery of heavy arms. Before one can think about such arms deliveries, one has to "clarify what strategic goal we are pursuing with this", the MP Joe Weingarten of the SPD party told the newspaper Welt. "Is it realistic to defeat Russia with German tanks in Ukraine?"
Weingarten stressed that Germany should not let itself "be forced into a war step by step"
Considering their neglect for safety in Chernobyl, I wouldn’t be surprised
I mean also a good point
Also fun fact
That still shocks me like come on if something truly bad happens there that’s gonna effect the land you are trying to take - _-
Weingarten and other MPs said that they‘d only be in favour of more arms deliveries if there was a chemical attack 😃
MPs of who?
Germany‘s SPD party
.
I find the "strategic goals" bit very funny too
Like yes, what is their strategic goal?
Because it’s clearly not a decisive Ukrainian victory
The goal of not being a total embarrassment maybe
Seems like it
Instead of saying what they could do, they always find reasons why they can’t do something
At first it was that there are no tanks available
Scholz & party stop being so fucking thick headed and send the aid
Which was quickly denied by the arms manufacturers themselves
And now the issue is that "tanks require training"
Like no shit
But they don’t want to provide training for some reason?
I love centrism! I love not doing anything because of impartiality!!!@
Genuinely fucking tired of scholz
b-b-but what if we hurt Russia‘s feelings 😢
This is modern Germany not East Germany no need to be nice to Russian aggression anymore
Well
I love watching the situation deteriorate while I can do something!!
The spd are BEGGING to lose next election genuinely
No no, Scholz always says that everything is going okay and that he‘s prepared

The sad thing is that war fatigue is settling in already
And a lot of people really don’t care
Even more of a reason to hate this incompetency

On March 8, Sweden's Prime Minister warned that NATO membership would add to instability in Northern Europe
On March 30, Sweden's PM would not rule out NATO accession

a whole generation will have to change in order to kill that urge to be under someone's reign
only then there'll be a change
I‘m not a resident of either of those countries, but I follow Swedish and Finnish media and from what I can tell in terms of polls and reporting there is definitely a very strong case for cooperation, with Finland‘s NATO bid being almost a sealed deal, while Sweden‘s application is highly likely

if not sunk it'll at least be in drydock for the remainder of the conflict
one badly damaged, one at the bottom of the sea
assuming the magazine really did blow up tho, the ship probably is sunk. that's basically the worst thing that can happen to a warship like that, it's what happened to the uss arizona in pearl harbor
lets hope it is sunk 🙏
just in time with official launch of "russian warahip go f yourself" postmarks
Russkies have 25 days to get a "victory" before their annual jerkoff session on the red square
Let's hope they fail spectacularly
heard they want a “victory” parade in mariupol too
tb2s and swtichblades are licking their chops at that news
I honestly wonder how the V-Day parade will go if Russia still fails to take Kiev by then.
Failing to capture a city not even 350km away from your country isn’t the most patriotic thing in the world, especially when all that fancy equipment is being destroyed within hours of being deployed or just gets captured by some Ukrainian farmers
huh
Apparently the Russian Orlan drones are using Canon camera's for optics. Just the whole thing. As in literally a consumer grade camera attached to the thing with the buttons glued shut
i mean
its something that has a high probability of getting shot down
so I doubt you'd want to use some high tech stuff on it
Its an 80k to 120k system and they're using a consumer grade camera
which means you gotta cut costs somewhere
Tbf I‘m aware of several systems using consumer-grade electronics, but of course this means that sanctions will make producing those drones very difficult
@Capt_Navy Exploiting the enemy's weakness too: reportedly the radar on the Moscow can/could only see 180 degrees. Reportedly, the Ukrainians distracted the Moscow with a drone and hit the ship on the blind side: https://t.co/o6ej3Vya4X
426
@Capt_Navy Russia hasn’t built a warship larger than a frigate or about 5,000 tons displacement since the USSR collapsed. The Slava class missile cruiser Moskva displaced about 12,500 tons so at the rate Russia is building new cruisers the ship will never be replaced.
209
The Neptune 2 missiles are pretty new, wonder how many ukraine has
Given we've only seen this strike quite a bit into the war, i imagine not too many, and they've jut been sat waiting for the opportune moment to strike
And guess what's the country which had most of the user ships built?
Ukraine
On paper it also means they know ships better
Russian defence ministry reports a full evacuation of the ship
as do western sources

that’s not moskva
stg they're (Russia) a living joke yet they keep everyone at stress cuz of nuclear weaponry
I mean, there‘s still the ominous "military-technical response" threat
I can see Finland being a bit of a problem, there extremely close to a major Russian city, meaning we only need to place SRBMs to threaten them which we have an abundance of
theyve always had nukes in the land between lithuania and poland anyway so who care
I suppose you‘re referring to St Petersburg?

Canada is sending 100 soldiers to Ukraine
Does that seem small to anyone else, or is that just me?
oh for sure
why is it sending soldiers to ukraine
100 soldiers is not enough
It’s unfolding on live tv
Russia's gonna see that as a provocation and a declaration of war if Canada's actually sending it's soldiers to fight Russia
Check BBC news if you cam
Imma wait to hear this before I believe it
Of course, cause treadeau’s an idiot
From what i can gather, they aren’t there to assist in the war, rather help refugees
So i was wrong on the war part

If you're interested in the economic consequences of the war for Ukraine this Guardian article is fairly good
Air raid alerts almost all over Ukraine's territory now. The sinking of Moskva ship obviously wasn't well received in Moscow
1 ) Ukraine expects a 45% reduction in GDP with 10% population reduction (from emigration/deaths)
2 ) Russia's GDP is forecast to shrink 11.2%, also reports of increased emigration and a brain drain (can't find estimates yet tho)
3) Other countries in Eastern Europe, particularly those not part of the EU will also see their GDP shrink a similar amount.
There already are missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads in Kaliningrad oblast
It’s an empty threat
And I think that Andersen and Marin put it well, no matter what they do, that action will have its drawbacks
Tbh it‘s very difficult to make any sort of prediction for Russia and Ukraine right now as it all depends on how long the war will last and how much more damage will be caused
Both countries' economies are likely to decline further. But the most destructive phase, where the Russian forces failed to surround Kyiv in the first 2 weeks of the war, is over.
I wouldn’t be so sure about that
We‘ve yet to see the impact of the purported Donbas offensive that is highly likely to happen soon
And there is significant speculation that the need for a "victory" by May 9 might result in some more drastic action being taken too
Not to mention that the sinking of the Moskva won’t be taken lightly and more missile strikes are likely to follow
ofc I'm speculating here, but I would assume the area of conflict will be limited to the eastern oblasts for the new offensive and most of the devastation in the east has already taken it's hit on the Ukrainian economy - that is most of the remaining economic strength of Ukraine now lies in the western oblasts.
I mean, yeah, most military movements will likely be focused on that region, though as I‘ve mentioned cruise missiles will probably remain their weapon of the choice for the rest of the country
There is a huge amount of uncertainty regarding what the offensive will exactly entail
All we really know is that the recruitment efforts are very serious
I forgot to mention Odesa is critical for maintaining sea trade to the Ukrainian economy, hopefully the city will remain mainly unscathed (despite the blockade).
The blockade really is the main issue right now
Along with the huge amount of sea mines
Russian TV is still very focused on Mariupol
understandably, it's likely to fall soon and that'll be the morale boost their propaganda machine needs, nvm the city's near absolute devastation ofc.
It’s tying a lot of forces down
Today‘s news are mainly focused on the biolabs conspiracy theory
oh yes i've heard of that
i was trying to determine if there was any grain of truth to it (like the azov battalion)
but it's seems to be a complete fabrication
I've not seen anything to suggest truth
It is
And, though this is absolutely not a scientific measure, it doesn't seem like the thing anyone would do
And even with countries that have biological warfare programmes, they wouldn’t be so dumb as to hide them under a city that‘s right next to a conflict zone
Occam's razor principle* basically
Secret biolabs in underground tunnels, in a city that saw major fighting in 2014, a stone's toss from the 8year long war in donbass, in a town that houses the neo nazi azov battalion
just doesn't make any sense why it'd be done
like, at all
I mean, the actual bio weapons claims are not better either
Like supposedly they trained birds to fly to Russia to spread a disease that only targets Russians…
Lots of people believe it
welp
And ultimately, the main goal is not to make people believe anything in particular, but to make them believe nothing
it's fine after all for the Russian state, so long as the people aren't denouncing the war or protesting against it - condoning it out of ambivalence, fear or ignorance is sufficient.
A lot of people in Russia believe that "regular people" should not mess with politics
that's true to a lesser extent of most nations...
I mean, this isn't just a russia thing either
propaganda in wartime goes down very well
radical apoliticism
I mean, look at "Saddams WMDs" if you want a western version
That was a huge intelligence blunder
well yes, but there was a very large war protest of 1million people back then (I believe Tony Benn raised sceptism over the WMD claims before the war started at those protests).
Though the CIA has plenty of experience with that in South America
Mhm
Yeah, there was a major protest, one of the largest in history... but in the UK at least, support for the war was still more then a plurality
WMD exaggerated for justification by British MI5 IIRC
i can go dig out the source but, i'm sadly tired.
fair, twas just an example
perhaps a political song inspired from the era would suffice instead

regardless the loss of the ship is huge
big military and morale loss for the russians

1905 seems to be happening all over again
It's still so surreal that this has happened
obviously it's not like conflicts have ever ended, but when it's somewhere like the Middle east or Asia it just never really took hold
I didn't reallu think about it
now it's a major conflict in Europe and it feels so dystopian
I think it being on the news so much is what does that
the wars in other countries barely make it onto the news
whereas this is on every station every hour of the day
you could go months not hearing about the ongoing genocide in South Sudan
or the destruction in yemen
but hearing about Bucha and the Donbass is a daily occurance
compiled by the modern tendency of doonscrolling
it feels massive and all encompassing, and does start to effect people mentally
second-hand trauma, as I've seen it referred to
rightfully so though
we're pretty much holding off a bigger threat for the world here
The Moskva's destruction is prompting calls in Russia for the "special military operation" to be upgraded into a formal declaration of war with Ukraine
535
130
mhmm, it is important to be talked about
and the crimes and horror of war shown to the world
same as it is important with other conflicts, though sadly, they don't get talked about
at the same time, outaide of ukraine we need to understand people are struggling with the situation too
especially if you live in Poland, or the baltics
second hand trauma is a massive thing
especially in times filled with so more worry and panic, with rising costs of living, and covid still rampant
yeeep
rn I'm sat in the bath coughing like mad, whole families gotten it, thankfully none of us seriously ill
hopefully it won't get harder
covid for my family went pretty weirdly
just like a generic flu
me and my mother got well after 4 days of treatment and only my dad developed pneumonia
My closest relatives werent heavily affected
But then one of my far uncles died because of it so
all rng
Also one of my friends got some nasty lung calcification after getting thru covid
I got it first time march '20, had shortness of breath for 2montha or so after
And her lung capacity got reduced by 30% or so
found I was panting for breath after walking 3 or 4km
now, I'm not an athletic person, but I've never struggled for air walking a short distance like that before
I just realised
this might give them justification to move more troops in
Hm?
and support from people in the army to move more troops in
Definitely
what more troops
doesn't make any sense
Russia has more then 75% its combat ready battlegroups involved in the war
Mainly reservists
^^
Emphasis on combat ready
It's just a reason to officially proclaim war instead of just special operation
Thing is, you need time to organise battlegroups
There are many more soldiers spread throughout the country
and bomb kyiv again ig
Many people in Russia may now be supporting war more than they had, and more people may be willing to join the fight
you can't create a battlegroup out of thin air
I don’t think that‘ll stop them from trying
and someone "joining the army" won't be on the frontline for minimum 8weeks
tbf then that'll just lead to more bloodbath with no real military benefit
Yep
marching uncoordinated men without equipment or proper training towards the enemies line
helps nothing militarily
like, all you'll see is a repeat of the somme
"Nuts!"
walking directly at the enemy in a very slow fashion is not a good military manouvre yet the russians seem to insist on doing that
also, of note, this is afaik the biggest russian commitment to a war
since ww2
Its more then Syria, Georgia, chechnya, Afghanistan
The thing is that the severity of the war hasn’t quite reached the public consciousness in Russia
that takes time to set in, sadly
As daily life more or less goes on
I doubt it‘ll set it in anytime soon unless you wait for the economy to collapse
Today‘s award for the worst article on the Ukraine war goes to Alice Schwarzer: https://www.emma.de/artikel/ukraine-krieg-frieden-jetzt-339355

"While it did not yet seem that he had made an irreversible decision to invade Ukraine, Putin was defiantly leaning in that direction, apparently concerned that his window was closing for shaping Ukraine's orientation," CIA Director Burns said.

I try to glean as much as possible from the highly edited state media videos coming from Russia, and there usually isn’t much. But for some reason they keep including drone footage of their strikes wildly missing.
From a video of Forpost drone activity:

This video talks about an investigation by amnesty international of a possible cluster bomb attack against a Ukrainian civilian target
And looks very likely and the only thing close to a military target was some shooting range or something like that
Oh lovely
UN reports puts a low estimate on how many times so far Russia has used cluster bombs (Mar 1st) its at least 24
oh also also was in the US federal govt
I mean 1 is already too many
hopefully it stays fairly low
Cluster bombs have had horrific effects in recent wars
evil weapons
convention to ban them
purple = ratified, blue = signed but not ratified
depressing how much of the world hasn't signed it
cluster bombs have a similar effect as land mines
long term risk to civvies
areas in the caucus' are still off limits to civilians due to the risk
depressing how the ban is only 14years old
too
the amount of harm they caused in the first decade of the century is 😔
The entire website that was posted on is just a mess
