The war in Yemen has been going on since 2014
There's also the azerbaijan-armenian conflict
I heard about Yemen but I never did too much digging on it
Got particularly bad during covid though
but recently got a boost after russian peacekeepers were sent here
yeah, it turned from skirmish into a full blown military invasion
and a significant seizure or territory
Yemen is just a mess at this point, basically there's two governments fighting each other for legitimacy, one of which is being supported by various states including Saudi-Arabia, which also conducts aerial bombing campaigns there, while the other is based on an Islamist movement called the Houthi movement
And then on top of that there's also Al-Qaeda being active in the region
and in excess of 1/4 million people, the vast majority of which civilian, have lost their life in the conflict
its awful
I discovered it via the flag emojis section as a kid and I thought it was one of those niche, unheard of countries. I just googled “is it safe to visit blank” for fun and put yemen in the search bar because I was curious. It said Yemen was one of the most unsafe places in the word to visit right now
What about north korea?
North Korea is safer
North Korea is a dictatorship but not at war with anyone
North Korea isn't at war
Gotcha
The vast majority of western tourists that go to north korea safely leave
Welll, theres still occasional conflicts on the border, but they are very low scale
True
You have to be careful when you visit in order not to break any laws, but you don't really have to worry about your personal safety that much
But still
idk why anyone would want to go to nk, it's so depressing and you only see what they want you to see
Al-Qaeda is still a thing? I thought they were caught after 9-11
Al-Qaeda is still absolutely a thing
america moment
the "war on terror" was one of the largest failures in modern military history
Al-Qaeda is a network of different terrorist groups
all it did was create power vacuums
The one you're referring to was indeed more or less caught
Oh i thought it was just one group
But the one in Yemen is a spin-off called "Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula"
they're all loosely connected
This sub-group was only formed in 2009
Is Yemen still communist?
no
Oh
There was only one party, but it's nationalist
Ah
any chance that war ends soon?
no
Hopefully
or is it like a syria situation
yemen
Ah
As for the former, I have some hope
The proposals I've heard today are very good, but I'm not sure how the Russians or the other countries mentioned will react to this
Bye
Have fun!
cya
we only have to wait, but the signs are definitely good
I doubt the German government would agree to ratify such a proposal tbh
Poland is likely to say yes
still not trusting them with the whole deal of laying off Chernihiv and Kyiv
What's the proposal again?
it's a ten point plan
in a nutshell: neutrality for Ukraine + EU membership, and Ukraine's security is guaranteed by other countries who legally agree to intervene in case of another attack
why wouldn't they?
According to the proposal, Russia and Ukraine also agree to solve the issues regarding the Donbas and Crimea in a peaceful manner and vow not to use military force
for 15 fucking years dude
Russia doesn't know how to do things in a peaceful manner
i wouldn't trust them on a single claim
hell, I doubt we'll even see the same negotiators from it again
Because signing the agreement basically means agreeing to intervene using your own troops since the proposal explicitly mentions a no-fly zone, and Chancellor Scholz has opposed almost every single measure so far
at this point i think ukraine should take what they can get and hope they can stop whatever shit russia tries to pull
as far as I see it, we could settle for peace negotiations about Crimea, but if situation gets handy, we might go and take Donbas with force
I doubt that would work
But I think that Russia must be forced to leave Ukrainian territory except for Crimea and also be forced to recall all paramilitary units to what the former borders of the separatist republics were
to clarify, i don't mean give in to whatever russia says, i mean if it looks like they're offering a good deal, take it and hope for the best
yeah of course they will
An agreement like I mentioned before might work
I can see this working too, yes
But if they just say "yeah, we'll move all our troops away and decide on a ceasefire" they'll be back in a few months or years
to clarify again, i mean hope for the best but prepare for the worst. a ceasefire would make it much easier to send weapons and supplies to ukraine for future attacks
Weapons could be sent now too
yeah but it can be done much easier when there's no bombs raining from the sky
of course
But short of a ceasefire, the most pressing issues are the fully sieged cities like Mariupol
I can only recommend watching this short video featuring interviews with refugees from there: https://youtu.be/Ws0mMP7uM34
Ukrainian families are taking enormous risks to try to flee Mariupol, traveling through Russian checkpoints — and in some cases land mines — to try to get to safety.

It's horrible, and that's exactly why I think Macron's original plan would have made a difference: publicly announcing that troops from several countries will secure the city, communicating that to both the Russian leadership and the local officers and evacuating the city while vowing not to expand military operations beyond an agreed-upon area
lmao
⚡️Poland to block coal imports from Russia.
“We cannot wait any longer for the EU reaction on the issue,” said Polish government spokesman Piotr Muller. “We are aware of the risks.”
Almost 20% of Polish coal comes from Russia.

And in my opinion it's just very weak of Macron to announce some sort of humanitarian mission only to cancel it even though nothing has changed
If he's scared of the troops being attacked, then he should say that, and not be like "oh, Putin didn't like this proposal"
Putin just told Macron he wants Mariupol to surrender. Russian diplomacy in action.

Terrific

Yep
As I watch Russian deployments in Belarus & Donbas I’m increasingly convinced that another major RUS offensive is about to begin. If so, it may prove to be decisive. #Ukraine needs to do its utmost to hold out against it, and once this RUS offensive fails, anything is possible.

Damn, and for a moment there I thought things were kinda looking up

True, but it would have been nice if they hadn't.
The author of the Mariupol brand Serhiy Rodionov announced the launch of an online archive with stories of Mariupol residents who witnessed Russian war crimes It is used to document crimes and create a memorial to the victims of Russian aggression.
https://mariupol.is
I smell boycotts
95% of people calling for boycotts will be people who never buy it anyway
especially with luxury brands like this
boycotts are natural in this sort of case, it's just a matter of how big they really are
I do
Well i used to at least in this case
Not gonna buy it, they got good quality chocolate but ill be fine without it
i don't understand why people are mad, cutting off russia's access to chocolate wont do shit
and 7% of the companies profit
Tax revenue
for a negligible thing
as we all know russia's primary source of income is through taxing chocolate
?
Taxing all sorts of products
Quitting from the market = no tax revenue = no support for the war
Its a drop in the ocean, but drops eventually make the ocean
All sorts of companies are quitting russia and ritter decided to stay there and support the war for 7% of their profits
Noone really cares if its 400 rubles or 400 million rubles, theyre contributing to it
Because if we start differentiating companies and saying 'oh, XYZ is too small so it can stay, nothings gonna change', then where do we put a line between quitting and not quitting
soooo staying in russia means supporting the war
so does selling in the USA mean supporting every single action of the US goverment
"kinder is still selling chocolate eggs in new york therefore they must be supporting the anti-lgbt laws in texas"
the amount of performativism going on with russia is annoying
That would be a better analogy if the shit going on in Texas and Florida etc was being done by the Federal government, but it's not
people spending hours getting angry at companies giving insignificant amount of tax money to russian govt. rather then caring about stuff that will actually help things
No, but the federal Government has the ability to stop it
or at least, attempt to stop it
Or
use a different example then
I'm not super well up on how fed vs state law works in the US but I don't think it does
"kinder is still selling chocolate eggs in new york therefore they must be supporting the US governments failure to stop climate change"
also isn’t part of the rationale for boycotts to hurt the economy as much as possible? how would that help solve the texas laws?
"kinder is still selling chocolate eggs in new york therefore they must be supporting the US governments failure to evacuate people from afghanistan"
I mean, mass-boycotts from companies would stop the laws
in that they'd hurt the texan economy so much they have to reverse the decision
...which is the same as the goal in russia
hurt russias economy so much they back down from the war
if every company boycotted everywhere that had issues no one would be able to do business anywhere
and it becomes no longer worthwhile
every nation has issues
yes
an invasion of a democratic and peaceful nation is on a whole other level
I mean.... if you think Russias the only country doing that recently
I don't really know what to say
my point is that
Spending all your energy on a chocolate company over an insignificant amount of tax revenue
is pure performativism
you don't care about the revenue, you care about the aesthetics
if you’re implying that iraq or afhganistan were democratic and peaceful nations idk what to say either
well its your opinion on what i care about
the wars were shitshows but saddam and the taliban aren’t forces for good
...im just genuinely surprised that it still has to be explained at this point of the war
also comparing anti lgbt rights to actual shelling cities is just
Be aware that lgbt people in ukraine are being bombed as well
Y'all haven't had wars happening on your territories for a good while and it shows
I can understand companies like Auchan not moving out because they're a network of supermarkets and both countries have people to feed, that's a valid reason to an extent
But when we talk about such things like Ikea, Mcdonalds, Jysk and this chocolate companies
They're not a necessity
And the least they could do to stop this genocide is move out of there
Stop sponsoring this war
Agreed
Hell, it might seem inefficient on surface, but as birb said before: each droplet makes the ocean
It makes sense if some pharmaceutical company doesn’t pull out, but like you said chocolate is far from being an essential good
(I don't disagree that they should pullout, to clarify)
Then what was your point before this
(I just don't see the amount of hours spent arguing over this as being in any way constructive, and being about aesthetics rather then results)

Nah, we‘re talking about pirating movies and the like

ohohoho
I doubt my government is going to send any troops
Just because they really dont have any lmao
It's not about sending troops now, it's about the a treaty that was discussed yesterday on negotiations in Turkey
it basically states that Ukraine will have a neutral status, yet, if there's an invasion, countries-guarantors will have to help them with troops and close the sky
but even that is pretty vague now, considering there's already news about Kremlin changing it's mind
A what?
a rocket complex
Ah i see
Mhm I understand
which seems like not that bad of a deal, but there's still issues that need more discussion, like Crimea and Donbas
I support the idea that they give no land to the Russians, but as an outsider thats an easy opinion to have
Would Ukraine be in a situation where they could ask the crimea region back? Probably not right
I'm not too competent in the sphere, but it seems like not, since it's officially tagged under territory of russian federation since the annexation back in 2014
and Peskov, despite what Medinskiy said on negotiations, today claimed that there can be no discussion about this, since the land belongs to them
which is a shitton of bullshit
Mhm
can't do much about it and we probably won't try to take Crimea by force
but at the same time we will not stop working towards bringing it back

It boils down to centuries-old corruption and bureaucracy in the Russian army.

i wrote your name on ukraine's watchlist, but with a pencil for now
that looks like the wreckage of a MI-28
could be a 24 though
but i mean, technically the helicopter stopped a missile
Brave Russian soldiers stopping ukranian missiles!
def an mi-8, the hind has a much larger tail and the mi-28 has 4 tail rotor blades
Wait till you hear about how the Russian soldiers have been stopping evil ukranian bullets!
i would love to see more dead mi-28s and hinds tho
i mean tail rotor, mi-8 has 3 and mi-28 has 4
true, but that is also assuming it didnt break on hard landing
i only say it may be a 28 because the fwd chin is more angled and the aft is not as thin as the mi-8
it may be a mi-8
i would love for it to be an mi-28, more of those need to be introduced to the starstreak and stinger
yea, hopefully it is, it may be a mi-8 though, wouldnt imagine russians still using them though, id imagine them phasing out older models as they are obsolete
like how the huey and kiowa were phased out in favor of the UH-60 and AH-64 longbow modifications
https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/attack-on-europe-documenting-equipment.html this website has been tracking equipment losses in the war, it's listed as an mi-8 but they could be wrong
and from those photos, it does appear that the mi-8 is still being used in both transport and attack roles
yea, nvm the mi-8 is still in service suprisingly
i'm pretty sure the hind is almost as old as the mi-8 and it's still going strong
i mean until this happens to it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xCbJyh6YnU
Ukrainian Territorial Defense Unit shots down Russian Mi-24 Hind attack helicopter using FIM-92 Stinger in Ukraine. March, 2022.

yeah it's crazy to see such a clear view of something like that
pilot died for sure, too
pilot, copilot, crew chief
and that's the thing about heatseekers, you often don't know they're after you until after you've been hit
idk, most of our helicopters have early warning systems
our chinooks have two of them
also the hind has gigantic exhaust pipes and for some reason the russian never use the heat suppressors made for them, so they're pretty easy targets for heatseekers
wait since when could you have warning systems for ir missiles?
today i learned
we have several cameras placed along the chinooks and two devices on either side that locks on to the approaching missile and tracks it
oh yea, anything made before 2010 would not have these systems
chinooks only have them because they carried the afghanistan logistics, making them really nice targets
idk about blackhawks or apaches
i've been wondering, why do only some apaches have that vertical exhaust thing? wouldn't it be better for them all to have it?
i mean at least it's better than the mi-28, which points it exhaust down, but i still don't get it
i dont know either
from what ive seen all of the apaches redirect the exhaust upwards
i only work on chinooks
chinook is good heli
you know what it could be, the ones that have the exhaust pointed upwards are the deployment setting, its probably an extra cowling that goes around the exhaust to aim it upwards, extra armor around the engines as well as heat dissipation
makes sense
It's been planned to be debited by 2030 cuz it's old as fuck, but if Russia pulls out then it'll be hard to keep it in orbit after 2025

So we have this far right party at the government called "forum for democracy (FVD)". They held 12/75 seats in the Senate (Eerste kamer) when they got elected. But, when it did start, the party took on a pretty blatant pro-Russian stance. In that time there have been several splits in the party, as most members did not agree with that stance. Currently they only have 1 representative left out of the original 12.
When the forum for democracy starts losing interest in democracy that makes sense
Oh god FVD is such a mess
Yes, Zelenksy was speaking in the house of representatives, and the only party that refused to listen to him was FVD, according to them allowing a foreign government official to speak was a 'breach in democracy' or something like that
It should also be noted that they were the only ones that refused to condemn Putin for his invasion. They also went on to call the invasion as "extremely mild"
Even our Vlaams Belang hasnt been that stupid to side with the Russians lmao
Wtf

That people even vote for them is so crazy
My dad
o no
Their main stances used to be basically:
Covid: fake,
EU: bad,
immigration: bad
Climate change: fake
literally every other of the 20+ political parties: corrupt undemocratic cabal
So I guess they just attracted those types of people
Vlaams belang is literally the same smh
Except because the Ukrainian refugees are white and christian they’re allowed to enter the country
New graph btw. Its getting long
thats the plan isnt it
Make Ukrainians spend all their AA weapons on your shitty ass choppers so then you can send in actual stuff
they need only uh
a lot of those shitty ass choppers
Another interesting pattern to note is how many journalists who now denounce Ukraine’s resistance have worked for Russia Today and Sputnik in the past…
It was already pretty hard to go through the Lithuania-Belarus border, now they, and Russia, might not get shit 👀 https://twitter.com/KyivIndependent/status/1509466753511956484?t=Vmp-qdKKyMrtupNggtIaQA&s=19

wartime popularity boost
what war? isn't this a "special operation"?
Samuels a brit, he calls it what it is
ah yes, suffering to sanctions and being hated by literally everyone is the right way to go
classic russians
I am also certain that these results are absolutely not at all tinted towards one party
everyone who was found disagreeing was probably arrested
others ran for it right after answering
Seems correct
tbf it wouldn't surprise me if there is that jump in support
thing is, russia needs to win
or, appear to win
for it to stay
the latter is more possible
this is what happens when u isolate a nation from non government approved news 😔
BREAKING: Vladimir Putin told Italy's Prime Minister Mario Draghi that conditions were not right for a ceasefire in Ukraine
269
The only thing that isn’t right is whatever is going on inside Putin‘s head
they don't want to give up their sovereignty so we will continue committing war crimes in the open, btw us biolabs pls think of that instead!
Also it seems like the entire Russian pay-us-in-ruble-or-else thing was just one big bluff
ye
How dare they fight back!
Truly the intelligence of the mighty Russian forces is showing in spades
polls like this are misleading, the vast majority of the russian population doesn’t participate in these polls as many who oppose putin are afraid of letting the government know
also the kremlin could easily just inflate the numbers however they want
That can skew results, but the general sentiment is correct from my experience
Those numbers were published by the only independent polling agency in Russia
nvm
I can assure you that while the exact numbers may be off by a certain margin, a lot of Russians do support Putin, even abroad
And that’s no surprise considering how effectively certain narratives and untruths about Ukraine were spread over the past few years
Not helped by western groups who slurp it up and reshare it
Not to mention that a lot of people who grew up in the Soviet Union still retain a certain amount of trust for Russian state media
Fox news, the gravel institute, two good examples from the US, on the right and left respectively
both actively consume and reshare kremlin lies and propaganda
Yeah, but even some news outlets that seem pretty okay otherwise
I read a pretty good article in MintPress News earlier about how the Washington Post is struggling under Bezos' ownership, but their articles on Ukraine are literally just what the Kremlin says
And then I clicked on the author bios, and guess what, one of them used to work for Russia Today and Sputnik News
I really don’t understand what’s up with some left-wing outlets at this point
communist sympathizers maybe? idk
not really, no
"I hate america thus must love everyone opposed to america"
Yup, that sums it up pretty well
Like they’ve rightfully condemned US imperialism in the past, but that’s no reason to write articles supporting this invasion
Yep
i hate the narrative the media has that the us is either a flawless utopia or a 3rd world shithole, believe it or not it’s possible for a generally good nation to have issues
One article I saw even questioned how much of a "real Jew" Zelensky is and that was just awful
I'm a socialist but I'm not a putin puppet
What the fuck

Extremely unlikely for a number of reasons.
Including the “source” (as translated in link https://t.co/QJcumucTCv) being…yeah. Not so credible.
Unlikely 7 busses of people would be irradiated so intensely in so temporally proximate a period vs exposure over time.
1/n
couple of threads on it
the Red Forest isn't radioactive enough to cause ARS in a month
It also has similar symptoms to severe levels of anxiety
and the only source for them having ARS is the Mirror
Talking about radioactive dust is very different than talking about ambient radiation. If you ingest radioactive dust particles, you now have those things well ... radiating inside your body. Thats much more dangerous. So its not that easy to say
That being said, you're right that this is the Mirror
And we probably shouldn't take that news source too seriously
both threads I linked are quite interesting and have more to them than just the linked posts
first one includes sciency numbers
It's been too long for the contaminants to be radioactive enough to cause acute sickness in such a short period of time
Acute yeah, but there definitely is still a risk in ingesting the wrong particles.
This isn't quite dust, but it does demonstrate that you can still find some quite radioactive materials randomly scattered about the place https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kg4vVYKc90
obtaining superpowers and a peanut sized reactor fuel fragment outshines everything we've seen so far!
finding uranium in nature at its worst - and i'm still waiting for my transformation into superwoman...
thanks to the many comments i previously received, i took a streak test this time... and a gamma spectrum as well, of course.
tl;dw they find a radioactive pebble inside an ants nest
And if you're inhaling dust, or accidentally ingest just a small grain of radioactive material, its gonna stay inside your body for a bit, and do quite a bit more damage due to how close it is to you.
please at least read what I linked
What specifically are you referring to? because I read that
i'm so confused now
I agree, they won't get acute radiation sickness yeah, but that doesn't mean there is no risk in the longer term.
i don't understand why you said it like someone had claimed it
No?
I just wanted to point out that while the acute stuff is most likely bullshit, fucking around there can still be pretty bad for your health.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
⚖️ According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine (as of 30 March):
🔻3568 aggression and war crimes have been already registered (of which 3457 for violating the laws and customs of war);
🔻207 suspects among Russia’s military and political leadership were determined;
🔻 2012 crimes against national security are being investigated...
mhmm, its a thing a lot of people don't realise
you can have an alpha source 15cm from your head and suffer very little damage
near negligible levels
but injest 1/10th of that source and it'll fucking kill you
and going through areas like chernobyl the risk is the radioactive dust and dirt, not ambient radiation
getting on your skin or internally
All in all, it's a very high risk move to just deploy troops on radiated territory
the aftermath was obvious
tbf, as far as military jobs goes, its far from the largest danger
its not a great decision but far from the worst one russias made
yeah, the worst one was invading Ukraine in the first place
true!
and the second biggest, was to not get the job done quickly
and now they're absolutely fucked
invading ukraine is a shit decision, but if you are gonna do it... you're best hope is to take the capital, ground the air force and shoot the president within a couple days
and Russia achieved 0% of that in a month
Putin just signed that only-rubles-for-gas law
Yet he supposedly told various EU leaders that they can still pay in euros… hmm
i don’t get the significance of that, can someone explain?
like why does it matter what currency they pay in?
The whole point of that law is to basically prop up the value of the ruble
They've artificially inflated the ruble now with fuckery like that
^
People using a currency adds value to it
economics make no sense to me
the pound followed by the dollar and euro are the most valuable currencies, in no small part because they are used so much in trade
honestly same
I know that people using the ruble adds value to it
I have no fuckig idea why it does
just that thats what happens
i still don’t understand how the invasion made the ruble lose value to begin with
that’s always been his tactic, people just aren’t very scared of him anymore
A lot of leaders still are
Like for example the German government successfully lobbied to exclude import bans on metals from the EU sanctions package https://www.tagesschau.de/investigativ/kontraste/sanktionen-russland-125.html
i thought that stuff with germany was more because they’re reliant on russian imports and less because they fear putin
but idk maybe i’m wrong
It‘s both
The thing is that especially Chancellor Scholz is doing a very poor job at communicating how exactly sanctions are going to affect the country
Because sanctions can very much hurt both sides
And Germany is also falling behind in terms of military and humanitarian support
yknow
I can understand nations like ireland
not wanting to send guns
but there's no excuse for failing to send humanitarian support
it is the bare fucking minimum
Agreed
BREAKING: NATO asks Denmark to deploy 800 troops to Latvia. Denmark has agreed to this pending parliamentary approval.
420
That was quick
man the border towns must be filled with soldiers of every nationality by now lmao
with the amount of varied nato troops getting stuck on the border
so like, this is quite a thing with Putler's announcement, countries will now have to decide if they want to strengthen Russia or refuse the stinky gas
As far as I know the foreign troops in Latvia are mostly stationed in Kurzeme and not in Latgale
It‘s the same with Estonia, they‘re mostly near Ämari near Tallinn and west of Tartu
So it seems like things are clearing up regarding the ruble/gas issue: basically they expect countries to open new accounts with Gazprombank and to pay for gas through those accounts
lmao as if

what’s important is that they’re regaining ground
ukraine ended the siege of sumy again
the Russians have been beaten back from there so many times
also hopefully now the kremlin shills can shut the fuck up about “russia is gaining ground so technically they’re winning”
I mean, we 100% know they're gonna say this was their plan all along
Ukraine must hold on the east however
we will, don't worry about it
as long as you give us weapons and aid, we'll back them the fuck off

It's a shame we only can give nonlethal things but hopefully what Ireland can give is of use
non lethal is just as important as lethal
what use is giving a soldier a grenadr if he died of wounds 3 days ago

"The fire at the oil depot occurred as a result of an air strike from two helicopters of the Armed Forces of #Ukraine, which entered the territory of Russia at a low altitude, there are no casualties" - Governor of #Belgorod
No casualties
Most likely a provocation because, as some indicated by other footage, those helis seem to be Kamov Ka-52 "Alligator"
we don't have those
Ukrainian officials still hadn't said much about it, so we have to wait
We did strike the ammunition storage in the same city, but I don't think oil depots would be our aim currently
reminds me a lot about recent russian strikes on our depots
I mean, striking your own oil depots in some sort of false flag attack seems kinda stupid beyond belief.
It's Russia we're talking about, they do that shit a lot
it's what they initially did with Donbas in 2014, blaming ukrainian neo-nazis for bombing land
Inside Russia?
Also, its a bit different when you're already at war than that it is as an excuse to start one
Like what benefit does a false flag operation like this give them?
I don't really think it gives them any benefit
Yeah, that's fair
guess we'll have to wait for either an official announcement from officials or an investigation
Yeah
in 1962 the CIA proposed a plan to launch several mass bombings in US cities to blame on the Cubans to justify a war
the plan was nearly set in motion before Kennedy vetoed it
you'll be surprised the extent people go to in false flags
its believed in 2000 several of the appartment bombings in russia, blamed on the chechens, may have been Kremlin false flags
e
What are they gonna do? Use this as an excuse to invade more?
...yes
"This is an attack on our oil base, an attempt to kill huge amount of russians"
"we are now justified in using chemical weapons in retaliation to end this war faster"
e
I don't think thats how this works
That just sounds like fear mongering
This is how Russia could spin it
im saying
not saying they will do it... just trying to think any possible reason for them to false flag this
If it was KA-52s, then it was either a Russian attack, or possibly captured tech...?
Russia, China and Egypt are the only 3 operators of that helicopter
ooh
MI-24
and It does not look like a KA-52. The angle of the rear fin is all wrong for that
Mi-24 has an angled rear
While the KA-52 is straight
(I don't know helicopter identification so I'll trust OSINT guy on this :p)
Also no dual rotors
As someone pointed out in the comments, its a good sign how this war is going, that ukraine is now launching cross border logistics strikes
huh, so i guess we really did that

not sure why ukraine would deny it
interesting...
believe theyre only referring to the oil attack today
and thats millerovo, not belogrod
Could it be the wreckage that we were contemplating about two days ago?
no that was an mi-8 that got destroyed on the ground
Yea
and you can see the tail separating in the video
i found a video in another server that appears to show the tail from the mi-28 crash
The pilots?
no idea if they survived or not, i think some mi-28s do have ejector seats tho
Single main helicopters can still autorotate so that the landing is atleast survivable
on a related note, why don’t more helis have ejector seats?
can’t they just do what the ka-52 does?
i know about autorotating and stuff, but if you lose control an ejector seat would probably be good to have
They need to stop the rotors and then remove everything sbove them before they are ejected
then just blow off the rotors like the kamov does
The blackhawks also have the air intake for the engines, and electronics above them
And the chinooks have the fwd transmission above them
cameraman says the pilots survived and they were taken to Kyrovsk
I know
I'm pointing out ukraine has attacked russian territory beflre
so I'm not sure what reason they'd have to deny it
Yea, they were not going too fast and it looks like they were able to auto rotate
Tandem rotor helicopters like the chinook are harder to auto rotate because they are going much faster and each blade exerts an insane amount of force
we'd never do that, those were russian neo-nazis deeds /j
This is the first time I hear of this
a little joy won't hurt, but the fight goes on, we won't give up 💪 🇺🇦
It was posted in here at them time, but it was like
1-2 days in
sooo everything was hectic and I don't blame you for missing it :P
Multiple people were reported to be wounded,[10] and at least one Sukhoi Su-30SM was destroyed on the ground per tweeted images.[11] However, Ukrainian officials and military experts have claimed that at least two Russian Su-30SM fighters were destroyed on the ground.[12]
not a bad result
However, on the official page in Facebook, the command of the Air Force of Ukraine published a post with a Millerovo airbase in fire with a comment: "Oops, who did it?".
hehehe
I wish talking to my grandparents wasn’t this sad sometimes
"Oh Adrian, what is this war you‘re talking about? There is only a special military operation!"
The Soviet Union broke some people for good
For Vladimir Putin, selling the case for peace is harder than selling the case for war
Putin fears backlash from "total war" supporters much more than anti-war protesters.
Some more details /1

i feel that
It‘s okay, but thanks, I really appreciate it
I'm surprised my grandparents don't believe in this shit, but it's a pleasant surprise
they still can't wrap their heads around why he would do this and all, so there is a bit of denial
ik its not exactly the same since im nowhere from eastern europe, but my parents are just QAnon and buy into russian propaganda and that shit
Yeah, that usually goes hand in hand
And I feel like that affects a lot of people, though of course denial is a lot harder when things happen very close to you
My grandparents haven’t visited Kyiv since they left in the early 90s so there‘s a fair bit of distance now
Yeah, they went to Israel with a few friends more or less after the Soviet Union collapsed and then to Germany from there
My friend’s sister visited Kyiv last year and she was very impressed by how pretty the city is but who knows how long it‘ll take to restore it now
Holy shit
BREAKING: Germany approves the delivery of 56 Pbv 501 combat tanks to Ukraine

Germany 😳
Hang on, its an IFV, not tank
still very useful
looks like a licensed bmp for east germeny
not the best thing in the world but every little bit helps
They were Swedish vehicles, purchased by a czech company
Berlin has given the green light for 56 vehicles of the type PbV-501 to be passed on from a Czech company to Kyiv, a spokesman for the defence ministry said on Friday.
He was responding to requests for confirmation of a media report that said 58 vehicles armed with canons and machine guns were to be supplied to Ukraine.
Berlin passed the IFVs on to Sweden at the end of the 1990s, which later sold them to a Czech company that now aims to sell them to Kyiv, according to Welt am Sonntag newspaper.
honestly we need to start sending more stuff besides just missiles
Yup
although now that i think about it we’re basically limited to stuff ukraine already knows how to use
so there’s not a whole lot of stuff countries like the us and uk can really send
That still leaves a lot of possible options
like humanitarian aid
Yeah
i’m talking weapons
Not to mention that it is very much possible to train Ukrainian forces
IIRC they also asked for F16 jets
by weapons i mean stuff besides missiles
if they did, the war would prob be over before they had pilots ready to fly them
I really can’t assess that
i mean fighter jets are really hard to learn
the ukranian air force claimed they could have pilots trained within 2-3weeks
for the f-16
a very real claim
I sent a thread in here earlier that argues that a seemingly bad peace agreement might endanger Putin‘s reputation in his country
^^
I was thinking about afghanistan and wrote Soviets oml lmao
They‘d rather retreat to the Donbas and keep on using cruise missiles every so often than admit defeat
you weren't too far off
I saw one thread earlier that speculated that they might decide to occupy 1/3 of Ukraine and then negotiate from that position
so that's like east and a bit of south
Because the thing is, the Russian delegation is being criticised by Duma deputies too
I talked about it in here before, it really wouldnt surprise me if they try to grab donbass and a bridge to crimea, and dig in there
For being too accommodating
Yup
And with all the new conscripts they’ll soon have more cannon fodder too
and all the more people who will sabo their own gear too
Probably
The biannual draft is set to take in 134.5k conscripts starting April 1. However, the question is what will Moscow do with current conscripts due to be released from service. Many are in supporting roles, and some are in the war despite official promises they wouldn’t be.

my guess is most were forced to sign contracts
Probably
thats gonna cause a lot of unrest
100k or so families expecting their son back
instead finding he's been sent against his will to donbass
I‘ve read about a thousand members of the National Guard refusing to go to Ukraine and being charged
The fear of disrespect and belief that it can be best corrected through expansionism are emotional drivers of war, that will persist even if the war is going badly
Putin's bad faith diplomacy is not just Russia's usual machinations, its also about Putin satisfying its base /END
(this played out heavily near the end of the afghan-soviet war)
That‘s true
the huge protests of families of soldiers was a significant contributing factor
to the USSR collapse
Yeah
not the main factor, but one that cannot be overlooked
From what I‘ve heard the war hasn’t fully reached the public consciousness in cities like Moscow though
All the stores affected by stores have posters on them saying the closures and temporary and whatnot
Universities seem to be a lot more affected though
Since students are more or less encouraged to report people who speak out against the war
nice

Gazeta. ru published a timetable for the Russian "special operation" in Ukraine by Russian MP Zakhar Prilepin:
7 days to take over Mariupol
2-3 weeks to seize control of Donetsk
At least 2 weeks to conquer Odesa
Sieges of uncertain length in Kharkiv and Kyiv
was this at the start of the invasion or current plans?
