nor the amount of volunteers enthusiastic to join
Especially when it devolves to bloody sieges and house to house warfare
against armed civilians on the other side
either way imma go
ttyl
yeah, always easy to just judge from afar
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on videos of "ukrainian soldiers abusing POWs" (Arestovych also adds that "such cases (if real) won't be tolerated, there'll be investigations. I've said it before and I'll say it again - we don't abuse pows. We are a european army of a european country)
👍
what the fuck these god damn savages
also overheard the kremlin propaganda from dad's laptop, they're really going with the cancel culture stuff, and yeah they're of course using the ammo that was given to them in the form of Russian writers having their books removed and some musician having his act cancelled
god damn it west, you're only helping Putin by just removing all russian culture like that
yeah, that's just unhelpful
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, @WHO has verified 72 attacks on health care, including 71 deaths.
The right to health must be protected.
Health workers & people seeking care are #NotATarget.

About that, Zelenskyy ruled that out in an interview with independent Russian journalists
makes sense
Zelensky says there will be no retaking of Crimea by force. Ukrainians are sick of war and destruction. This isn’t a hoorah war; it’s a national tragedy.

that's what the whole argument above was about
I think it‘d be possibly justified to demand Crimea as part of a peace agreement though
The thing is that any sort of peace agreement would very likely require other countries pledging to uphold it actively which complicates everything
that's what I was going to add but decided not to
Yeah
I think it’s still worth mentioning considering statements made by the UK government about sanctions
Because I don’t think stopping the war and just saying "Oops" is enough in this case to lift them
Ideally there’d be an immediate ceasefire followed by intense negotiations about a peace treaty including other countries
russia will remain the most sanctioned country on the planet until that demented man and his minions are completely out of power
Yup
Especially with traditionally neutral countries acting
At the very least they should cooperate with international criminal courts & pay reparations
Interesting
Though Ireland really does benefit from being an island and being on the other end of Europe
Russia has made enemies with neutral countries and has pushed NATO back into a reason to exist and pushed the idea of the EU developing its own defense
Yup
Though there are still some issues when it comes to the EU
cough cough Austria
Even if they “win” they have so many against them now
I doubt it, though there have been successfully surrenders
Bollywood is already taken.... Bellywood?
Bulbawood
I mean with Russia just throwing them out to basically die from either fighting or having no more supplies

Has there been any changes with China? Like are they supporting it more?
not as far as i know
Not really, no
Though Chinese state media recently published more articles showing both bombings in Ukraine while accusing NATO of being responsible for the war
Damn
I‘ll have to ask my friend though, she might know more about this
It is a bit awkward to support a “military operation” to support breakaway regions when China has East Turkistan (might have misspelled), Tibet, Macau, Hong Kong, and under China’s eyes Taiwan
Also Inner Mongolia
I’m sure the Chinese are aware that this wasn’t mainly about the Donbas
How does china benefit from helping russia
They have close economic ties
Well the issue isn’t China’s view, it’s those areas I listed views. This could motivate them to get more aggressive
Though China knows that they can’t openly support them or risk losing more of their economy
Though it‘ll also be interesting to see how the annexation of the Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts will play out
Because then Ukrainian soldiers would then be technically fighting on Russian soil (in their view)… I wonder how that would affect military doctrine
The issue is, would the world sanctioning China be worse for China or the world? Or whoever does it
Yeah
Well doesn’t Russia recognize the areas in Donbas as independent republics and not part of Russia (for now)
Also has anyone heard any news about Macron?
My phone is buggin out with ghost touch, so if i say something illogical its my phone
Mhm, but the heads of the separatists both announced that they‘d like to have a referendum
The only two regions I know Russia has annexed is the two on the Crimea Peninsula
Crimea and I’m so bad at spelling it, it starts with S
And it was debated by a few Duma deputies too
No final decisions seems to have been made but it was mentioned in TASS
Sevastopol?
If LPR and DPR get annexed at least their republics lasted longer than Crimea and Sevastopol didn’t they last like a day
Man
Not recognized ofc
Good question
But I don’t think their goal has been to be independent forever anyways
Since I’m pretty sure they declared their independence and then like a day later voted to be annexed
“Voted”
I mean they would stay republics just under the Russian Federation
Yeah, though the reports we‘ve been getting from the occupied areas so far have been horrible
this fuckshit has the most punchable face in all of human history
And I imagine the repression would only get worse if they can actually deploy the police state there
Yeah I sad a vid about Crimea which included interviewing this guy who celebrated the Russians coming in, and now wishes they were just part of Ukraine again
When you have pro Russia people learning to staying a part of Ukraine you know you screwed up
Yup
But even so, the annexation of Crimea didn’t result in nearly as much bloodshed
At the very least that’s some positive of that situation
I wonder how Moldova is feeling right now with Transnistria
I wonder if there’s been a new movement to join NATO
I really don’t know, I‘ll have to look into that
Transnistria is so interesting, where it’s not recognized but when you have a region that does things on their own for a long period they turn into basically a country
And these regions just turn into pawn for greater powers if they didn’t start as one to begin with
Transnistria is independent in all but name
It would be really interesting if there was a way to get a legit poll there to see how they feel about this
Like is there still a moment to be annexed by Russia or has it been changed because of this situation or maybe a bigger just independent movement
It's interesting quite how many regions there are like this in the world
Northern Cyprus
Somaliland
Western Sahara
I bet Russia is eyeing those right now
And if Russia gets any amount of land out of this, Georgia and/or Moldova are next
Russia is sending troops from there to ukraine, depleting the russian forces in the area
soooo
could be interesting see what happens
Really?
`“We now have indications that they are drawing on forces from Georgia to Ukraine,” the official said, adding they were not tracking their movements from the air.
Russian troops have been stationed in Georgia after Russia invaded the country in 2008. Georgia is on Russia’s southwestern border.
The Pentagon did not know where the troops from Georgia would be going in Ukraine, the official said, while noting that the Kremlin has said it is prioritizing its activity in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.`
Interesting
(The official being an Unnamed senior defence official)
It's also true for Armenia, now that russian peacekeepers are sent here, Azerbaijan sent in their troops
conflict on the armenia-azerbaijan border has (iirc) heated up since the invasion started
ye
Armenia is russian backed
Azerbaijin is turkish backed
they've been in a conflict for 34years, of varying intensity
Yeah there’s a sudo independent region there
The world already had enough with covid and now possibly bird flu
https://t.me/verkhovnaradaofukraine/1980 message from Zelenskiy, march 27th
A new round of negotiations is ahead, because we are looking for peace. Our priorities in the negotiations are known. Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity are beyond doubt. Effective security guarantees for our state are mandatory. Our goal is obvious - peace and the restoration of normal life in our native state as soon as possible.
⚡️Czech Republic freezes Russian assets.
According to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, the Czech Republic has frozen the assets of Russian citizens and companies subject to EU sanctions imposed since Russia’s full-on invasion of Ukraine.
hoping for the best
sadly I doubt Russia is gonna negotiate
gg Czechia
⚡️US, Germany, Poland to send diesel fuel to Ukraine to end deficit.
Since the start of the war, Ukraine has seen deficit of fuel. Russians have been conducting targeted missile strikes on oil repositories around the country.
@KyivIndependent so russia sends fuel to the EU then the EU sends fuel to ukraine 😂
Moscow to Berlin to Kyiv
the great triangle
based
honestly Russia has been supporting us no less than others
They provided us with fuel, tech, fertilizer
Can't thank them enough
oh hopefully
they'd have to be buried for that to happen
sadly, they leave most of the bodies behind, just laying there
There's a new video of random stray dogs eating the remains of a russian soldier
so i guess there is some use for that meat
:(
In medieval Europe, crows would follow armies into battle
for a similar reason
hence where crows got their reputation

can anyone explain why biden calling for putin to be removed from power is controversial? i’m not a huge biden fan but he’s absolutey right, putin is a total thug and it’s about time people stood up to him
I think the main thing is escalating tensions
Usually world leaders shouldn't say the quiet thing out loud
or destabilizing Russia even more
isn’t that what the west wants? to eventually be rid of the putin regime?
Yeah, but they can't do that too obviously or Putin will become even more paranoid
I mean we don't want a Iraq with nuclear weapons
its saying the quiet part out loud
when I'm sat with my boss
if the Russian people aren't supportive of it, then it will not end well
doesn't matter what anyone else feels about Putin
as that raises tension
you mean shouldn't?
that implies we’re supposed to let russia be in control of the situation
....no
saying I'm gonna kill you isn't being in control
In life you don't always say exactly what you think k
what would happen in diplomacy if everyone said exactly what they thought at all times
theyd be sat in a room insulting eachother till dawn
well maybe it’s time we did. it’s time russia became afraid of us, we can’t just pussyfoot around everything like this
so heres the question how would we get rid of putin?
no dude
this is childish logic
These are real lives on the line
a military coup that might start a revolution by a big number of Russians that support him?
every statement by a leader carries a cost in blood
naw shit
I mean Russia is already afraid
which causes russia to ACT
why do you think he didn't want Ukraine to join NATO
he knows NATO beats Russia without nukes, and no one wins with nukes so either way its loss loss
are we tho
Yea
Duplomacy isn't "being afraid of someone"
yes
this isn't medieval europe
this is proven by the controversy
good example: close the sky
you can't walk round unsulting everyone swinging your massive geopolitical cock aroind
just gonna make things worse
"Not starting a world war is a real pussy action guys" - is the words of a jingoist
russia is currently using anything the west says that is vaguely anti russian in propaganda too, the more the government there can make the people afraid of the west the more they can justify war to their own people
a no fly zone wouldn't stop russia from launching missiles from the ground or sea
ok that’s a fair point
it's the same thing with say torturing terrorists, it might feel justified but that's just giving the terrorists more to work with
i still think that, in one way or another, russia is in control here and they know it
there's a difference between being weak and trying to make sure you don't start nuclear war
like think of the cuban missile crisis
they know their only lever of control are nukes so they're just sorta fiddling the trigger
what if the US was "strong" and invaded Cuba
what would happen
also Russia has a system where nukes can be launched without Putin's approval
a dead man switch
even if they don't have that system on now, they did at one point
i’m not saying invade russia, i’m saying at least stand up to them
how
it's great saying stand up but how
bro idk i’m not a political strategist
but there’s gotta be something they can do
better than rolling back statements
like sanctions? like sending weapons? like sharing intel?
certainly not saying “sorry putin we didn’t mean it!”
that makes you look weak and spineless
we don't want to aid his image
us saying to basically kill Putin falls into the image Putin has made of the west
we don't want to give him more reasons
like if putin isn't thinking clearly, lets say he sees the west being strong and attempt to take Putin out...what's the chances that he doesn't just start launching nukes
the same strategies that worked before nuclear weapons don't work when the cost could be the whole world
world wipe? is that a Minecraft reference?
lets say oh lets just remove him from office via coup or something, if he's still alive that's a chance for a group to form to preform another coup
that's the issue, I think we should be doing more to help, but what will work without ending with nukes flying across the world
also lets say if the US was planning on organizing a coup against Putin WHY WOULD YOU ANNOUNCE IT
some argue that us sending in military supplies is too much, I disagree that's the least we should be doing imo
there was mostly russians government criticising it and seeing it as a step of escalation
which it isn't
simple just have the Ukrainians fly them out. there no chance of NATO personals getting hit
the thing is Russia doesn't have air superiority as of now
afaik air superiority basically means the enemy is incapable of flying. russia does have the larger air presence, but ukraine can still fly from time to time
like worse than it already is
so neither really has it
yeah
I guess
and being able to launch missiles doesn't equal air superiority since you can do that from the ground or sea
There's still some planes, helis and uavs getting shot down
main reasons russia doesn’t have AS yet: no awacs, fuel/pilot shortages, ukr long range air defenses, manpads, etc
if they had air superiority there would be no strikes against russian troops from the ukraine air force
they would be able to advance their troops quicker knowing they have that support from the air
not only protection wise but supplies
Russia isn't flying much either
neither side is doing many missions
ukraine mainly due to a lack of planes, russia because they'll get instantly sniped down
starstreak moment
it also seems likely that russia is running low on jet fuel
they have/had a-50s parked near the border but they never got airborne, presumably because of fuel shortages
UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace told that the Starstreak system — a shoulder-mounted missile that travels at more than three times the speed of sound to take down low-flying enemy jets — was ready to be used imminently in Ukraine.
Mr Wallace also said that the first Ukrainian troops had been trained and were now deployed with Starstreak.
we do got the first ones already trained
the thing is Russia should be able to control the skies, but it's the same reason they haven't been able to control the ground. they thought this would take a day or two with little work
they thought Ukraine would collapse almost instantly
just from the pressure
most of it comes back to logistical issues
also
well yeah because they didn't plan this to be a month long
russia is famously poor at planning complex air operations
even in 2008 russia was struggling to fully suppress the Georgian air force
it's still so funny to me, they really thought we'd just greet them like saviours
it's like packing for a trip away from home, you are gonna pack differently if you are gone for 2 days than if you are for 2 months
they packed for 2 days, and no mater how good you are at rationing you can't make that last for this long
that's the thing they started to believe their own BS
which was such a HUGE miscalculation
and then when you can't get supplies in because some Fecker keeps blowing up the bridges
ngl i’ve been waiting for a tu-22 to go down so i can say “looks like that really BACKFIRED on russia!”
thats when lootint starts
I mean there's a good chance they planned that the west or even specific places like Germany would do nothing, and they were wrong there too
definitely not because of intelligence bias trying to fit what putler wanted to hear
thing is
I reckon
yep and you can't even have amazon prime deliver to you
if they had taken kyiv within 48h
and had achieved their goals
then the west... wouldnt have done much
well ofc
applied some sanctions, got very angry
but accepted it as a way of life
sooo everything was based on thag
they would do more than what happened with Crimea but not as much as what's being done atm
they gambled everything on one initial assault
it was a very high risk very high reward
and it was a fucking stupid risk to take
regardless on how this ends, they failed their objective
once 2 days past, that was it
you would think a power as big as RUSSIA would have no issue
but that's the thing they didn't think they would need much
they thought oh we just need a small amount of our military to take this over no problem
that’s what happens when you drink your own kool-aid, happened to the nazis too
when they needed A LOT more
like, the long and short of this entire situation is
wow, almost like that power is nothing but old fame of soviet times
20years of building a regime built on corruption and political scheming
has backfired
yeah fr russia’s military is fool’s gold, a shell of its former self
well the thing is, Russia does have a lot of military power, they are just stretched too thin
if they start pulling away too many troops from other regions that leaves gaps in their security
and regardless on if the US/NATO/whoever would take advantage of that, Putin wouldn't be able to handle the idea that could happen
The country that shows off it's military each year at a parade of victory is now 1 month in fighting with a small country that should've been taken under 3 days
plus just add on top how great Ukraine has been doing
also remember they don't want to push things either, like to them this still isn't pushing it where WWIII would start
they could just throw everything at Ukraine, but why
you would end up leaving youself open to either the West or a growing China
plus if they threw in too much, they most likely believe that NATO would intervene at that point
speaking of china, this past month haas made me even less scared of that paper tiger they call a military, since it heavily relies on russian tech
I mean they do make a lot of their own stuff now
considering their track record with making stuff themselves that’s hardly a good thing
China's navy is bigger than the US's atm in terms of number of ships
they still can’t make working jet engines
the usn’s power is in its 11 aircraft carriers
I have a feeling they put a bit more effort into making sure their military stuff is the best than can make it
Chinas military is fairly untested
is the main thing
like
China has border conflicts with India
and thats about it?
meanwhile Americas army is running round the globe regularly
yeah that’s the big thing, china hasn’t been in a proper war in like 70 years, while the us has oceans of experience in all sorts of situations
another big thing is that the us is also allies with australia, japan, and sk, all of which have decently strong militaries
Pyrite has its uses.
oh right sorry, we're just insulting it at this point
Been enjoying the weekend turned the news off for a bit
there seems to be a lot of talk over Russia sabotaging a renegotiation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (aka the Iranian nuclear deal which Trump pulled out of - before starting the policy of maximum pressure on Iran)
not entirely sure what Lavrov said to make an agreement unreachable - and why... (from a logical perspective)
More importantly there's a change in the Kremlin's tone
there's talks of a more realistic set of war goals from the Russians side - i.e.
- Ukrainian Neutrality (not joining NATO)
- Ceding The Ukrainian Oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk to the DPR and LPR respectively
- Ukraine no longer recognising Crimea as core Ukrainian territory
whether Zelensky or the Ukrainian people would be prepared to concede the last two parts is, well sceptical.
But I'd speculate the West will start putting pressure on Ukraine to reach some form of peace deal in next month or two for the sake of the West's economy. Contrary to what many Russian propogandists and naive people on the internet would have you think; the West does not enjoy instability and devastation on the door of Europe - and the war, although extremely damaging to Russia, is really bad for central/eastern Europe as well.
Unfortunately the dilemma is;
The easiest and quickest path to peace will involve some form of appeasement
BUT
if too many concessions are made to the Kremlin, the West/Ukraine is condoning Putin's military expansionism once again.
... and this incurs the risk of future "special military operations".
and we all know what happens when a dictator with imperialist ambitions are appeased repeatedly.
Would a peace treaty reached now save more lives in the long term - who's to say?
It would certainly save more in the short term
It's also to Russia's military advantage to reach a temporary ceasefire, to give time to reorganise and resupply their troops
ukraine can't afford to agree to neutrality or anything else that leaves them vulnerable, if that happens russia will be back and they will have learned from their mistakes
I disagree that Ukraine will be left entirely vulnerable without being part of NATO
obviously it's the ideal security blanket
the thing is, russia would go home knowing full well that they'd be back for round 2. they'd spend some time regrouping and figuring out what went wrong, and chances are they'd get it right the 2nd time around
well...
Ukraine would have time to construct military fortifications on the Russian border
Ukraine would be supplied more arms from the West during the peaceful interlude
the war is currently a stalemate while russia is doing basically everything wrong
if they do just a few things right the 2nd time they would win much more easily
Russia would not be able to start a new conflict until they have replenished their lost arsenal from the previous defeat - easier said then done with the silicon chip sanctions
they got reserves for days, maybe not the best stuff in the world, but enough of it would get the job done
the Russian tanks factories have stopped assembly due to parts shortages
they don't have those kind of reserves
they have like 10,000 tanks in reserve
most of them aren't armed and/or are out of date
I don't believe the Russian economy is adequate for maintaining this war beyond a few months
nor do i think the Russian economy will be in the position to bankroll future invasions with all the sanctions put in place
...
there was also the Biden faux pas, but i'm pretty sure thats already been discussed to death
you mean him calling for putin to be removed from power?
yep never a good diplomatic move to overtly suggest removal of another sovereign country's leader - elected or unelected, tyrant or no tyrant.
yeah this was discussed before, personally i 100% support the statement but i get why other people don't
it's just not a good idea, risks raising tensions - nor a feasible one Putin is paranoid they come and knows how not to be a assassinated, working closely with the Stasi after all.
Best thing for everyone is to hope Putin becomes unwell and unfit to lead or if Putin is removed from power by domestic (ideally non-lethal) intrigue.
it's late anyhow gn
fuck fuck fuck fuck that’s not good
Read the title
Also, they've been talking about this forlonger already.
yeah i read the title, neutrality isn’t good because then russia will just regroup and come back better-prepared and out for blood
it’ll help russia more than ukraine
ukraine cannot settle for neutrality as long as russia is allowed to keep its border regions militarized
"Discuss" is the key word here
neutrality allows for russia to rip away the threads ukraine was forming with the west without having to keep fighting
Neutrality is also a very broad term unlike something like "demilitarisation", though we do know it likely includes at the very least not joining NATO
But again, the word used is "discuss"
In recent days, neutrality mainly means not joining NATO

Some advice to Ukrainians:
- Ukrainian hackers post Russian casualty numbers on Russian official websites and social media accounts. That's not bad. A better idea - post instructions for sabotage. For example, if you burn trackside relay cabinets, it will lead to huge delays🧵

So our hackers dug up this russian document, dating march 21st 2022, ordering to spread misinformation about abusive actions towards POWs to discredit ukrainian military, mainly due to numerous footage of us actually treating them well, resulting in russian soldiers surrendering way more willingly

It seems a bit crude yea, but other armies literally slam more propellant bags into the artillery pieces and use what is essentially over engineered stick to push it in
I’m talking mainly about the m777
That's a howitzer, this is a mortar
US mortars use clip-on charges
It really doesn’t matter if they use clips or tie the propellant on, in the end it still works, they probably figured out that it is more efficient and reliable to do it this way, just like the us figured they don’t need to add an auto loader to our main field artillery

that’s also why the b-52 will be in service for 100 years, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it
One of the only things the us military moved out of service recently was the Kiowa, and that’s only because every other helicopter except the chinook can do it’s job
The airforce was planning to move the A10 out of service years ago, but I guess they saw that was a really dumb idea considering half the generals probably served in desert storm as an LT
fr tho it’s crazy to think the last civil war vets were still alive when buff first flew and its last pilot still isn’t born yet
tbf, its mostly just because desgining a new strategic bomber would be unbelieveably expensive
and they serve a very niche role in modern warfare
A modern design could do the job better
it just isn't worth the cost
as opposed to the B-52 being this eternal marvel of engineering
the propaganda machine blurped up an error
Skabeyeva here states that "one month of special operation is not enough to capture a european country this big"
lmao
fucking lunatics
so, where are the claims of "we'll take Kyiv in just 3 days" now??
Bellingcat can confirm that three members of the delegation attending the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia on the night of 3 to 4 March 2022 experienced symptoms consistent with poisoning with chemical weapons. One of victims was Russian entrepreneur Roman Abramovich.

god damn
holy fuck
whole thread tldr: 3 members of the peace talk delegation were poisoned by an unknown party using an unknown chemical agent -> caused significant but non-lethal symptoms which cleared after a week
i mean i still think it’s pretty notable that the b-52 will outlast both of its intended replacements
yeah it’s not the greatest machine ever, but it’s still impressive

good luck maintaining them without spare parts being imported
Thats why you gut grounded ones
hey guys, maybe this is why you shouldn't invest in unstable autocratic states
lmfao
just a thought :p
It aint a permanent solution, but it definitely can keep them in the air longer
And after that, just lower your safety standards
and when those run out they are fukt
I mean
they can still get hold of spare parts
its just less convenient
America -> China -> Russia
true that
or America -> CSTO ally -> Russia
what about airbus parts?
Russia has been dodging sanctions for ages
and hiding trade
Russia officially imports very little food from the EU
but it imports a lot from south America
SA buys the food, then sells to russia
It would require boycotting russia's allies/nations willing to help them dodge sanctions
including china and india
and the west cannot afford a trade war with china/india
our economy would pop overnight
You could just tighten the way you sell the parts
How?
Not allowing reselling to sanctioned countries
Okay but
China just says
"we are not reselling"
then resells them
and then what do you do
Then call them out on their bullshit and take proper actions
but what action
We can't sanction them
because then we enter a trade war with china
and the entirety of Europes economy relies on china
I'm not gonna argue such minor details. What I'm saying is that there are always things you can try to do.
Of course, but, theres not all that much
in the grand scheme of things
When theres a will, theres a way
and russia can dodge sanctions
but
its so much less convenient and efficient
shift + enter to do multiple lines per message btw
so sanctions still play a massive impact
They just..... aren't a wholely fool-proof measure, and they do have gaps, especially when nations like china are little shitbags
Hell, if nothing else, a part made in a factory in Germany.... it takes a lot longer to go Germany -> China port -> Russia border -> Railroad all the way across sibera -> west Russia
then it would just being delivered straight to russia
And hugely increases cost

Ah, javelin missiles can be reloaded, NLAWs can not
NLAWs are like <1/5th the cost which might at least partially explain it

what da russian occupant doin
fucking monsters
I honestly wouldn't put too much stock in to any reports about "radioactive dust" and "imminent danger" unless they're actively bombing a nuclear power plant again or its from a source known to reliably report about nuclear related stuff. Most people know nothing other than radiation = bad, and as a result this stuff typically get overblown by the media and people in general because of it.
I'm not saying doing stupid shit in an exclusion zone aint stupid beyond belief, but it likely just means the people being stupid are more likely to get cancer. Not that there will be radioactive dust clouds over all of europe as some articles or tweets or whatever were suggesting
no one said anything about radioactive clouds man
only that occupants will just give themselves free xrays
There were definitely some talk about that. Dunno if that was here or somewhere else tho
just scroll up, there hasn't been any here after i posted it
Not after, but this isn't the first time this topic has been discussed

Awful devastation
fr, the people that are just suggesting Ukraine should just give away the parts of the country Russia is asking for, or that just giving it away could have prevented the war are pretty darn stupid
And even besides no one in their right mind willing to give away a part of their country under normal circumstances, what do you think would happen if you do? Would it encourage or discourage Russia to do the exact thing again and again?
This is just horrible

Wait actually no, thats not true. I retract that
This is an aircraft boneyard. Specifically for storing old aircraft just in case mostly
and because they can still be used for parts and its expensive to actually destroy aircraft
so maybe those pictures are from a boneyard for tanks too?
And it should also be noted that these things are mostly placed in Arid climates, where there is less corrosion

nice to see Lukhask isn't completely coloured red, and is mostly contested instead
like look at this shit, there's almost nothing left (wikipedia)
the live ua map is also colouring the entire Luhansk region, with the exception of Lysychansk
Making an area of the map red doesn't actually mean anything
It's a best a vague indicator of where fighting is likely
also as well early into the war especially
when a convoy would drive along one road
and map makers would shade in the entire region surrounding that road
yeah this isn’t hoi4, there aren’t clear-cut boundaries and you don’t capture land just by driving thru it

So thats why a country might be hesitant, even with the current circumstances.
mhmm

god damn it
This may be a stupid question to ask but
Why is Russia invading them?
Do they want land? Power? Revenge?
honestly there is no one concrete reason for all of this
since they change reasons like gloves
When this "special operation" was first announced, the goal was to "denazify" and demilitarise Ukraine
because for some reason they concluded that Ukraine has been suffering from nazis
Then a week in, one of the reasons became that, if they had not invaded, Ukraine would strike Belarus
Then later they claimed that Ukraine fell a colony to the west and that's why they're doing it
There is really no concrete reason, even if we talk gain wise
the only reasonable thing to invade us for is to maximize agriculture and be this one food giant of the world
but apart from that I really can't find a reason why
same can be asked about invasions on Georgia, Chechnya
Pride and legacy were the case for those
Wouldn't surprise me if Putin wants to conquer ukraine for reputation and honour, both for himself and russia internationally

Course.... it failed

Initially I thought that there was a very small glimmer of hope that Macron might somehow move forward with his plan, but oh well
I half-expected him to send in a small contingent of French and allied troops to make sure that an evacuation can take place, but I guess he's too scared after all
Yeah, but even if he only manages to return to the status quo ante bellum he could sell it as a victory
Fr, talking high and mighty and now just giving up
Thats kind of what I was thinking. Standard for a totalitarian dictator
Standard for politicians in general
True
Putin's not gonna suddenly change his mind about Mariupol just because Macron asks him once
its a very widely known trick for world leaders to use wars to distract from internal issues
yeah
Like what internal issues?
The economy
Oh
