what denmark said the issue with it wasn't what was in it, but what wasn't in it
gosh dangit while he was talking someone's phone started to ring at the end
Wikipedia estimates that Ukraine has 99 operational ones, although I'm not sure if that figure has been edited to reflect the recent capture. Most likely it was, as setting up exactly 99 would be odd
⚡️Ukrainian army reports taking down 130 troops, 9 tanks, 6 infantry fighting vehicles at eastern front in 1 day.
Ukraine's Operational Tactical Group "East" repels 5 separate attacks by Russian forces on March 24.

⚡️Ukrainian army: Russia wants to end war by May 9.
According to intelligence from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian troops are being told that the war must end by May 9 – widely celebrated in Russia as the day of victory over the Nazi Germany.

Holy shit man
tldr: (i think russian) artilleryman being careless with shells... throws one into the pile... it goes boom
not gorey, cameras immediately blacked out when blast hits
(Theres some arguing over source so take this with a big fat handful of salt, may not be from this conflicf)
absolutely shocking ineptitude eitherway
could be from 2017, according to a couple of the replies
i don't think it's cold enough in ukraine for that much snow rn, probably an old video
fair
Some poor sap (probably in a separatist militia, according to the replies) was given a 60-year-old helmet with a modern cloth cover: https://twitter.com/Rimmy_Downunder/status/1506049885048475649
A Russian helmet, translation of video:
"Look at this, power of the RU army. Appears to be a tactical helmet, military and shit. Look at this, appears to be fine. Fucking whoa, a tin can from the 50s, 2nd army in the world. Already pierced, that dude won't need it anymore."
1244
also what was that high-pitched sound at the end of the video?
Someone screaming
jeez
But wait there's more! A poorly teained artilleryman can be very dangerous.
310
again probably not from this war
but God damn
don't play around with artillery shells kids
i don't understand why anyone would ever think that's a remotely good idea
like there's blatantly stupid, and then there's throwing around howitzer shells big enough to atomize both you and the truck you're standing in instantaneously
I mean
even imagining
there was 0 detonation risk
that would still be damaging the shells
denting them
chipping them
getting in dust and rocks
like "treat your weapon with care" is incredibly basic training shit
Even Corporal Wojtek knew to handle shells with care, and he was a bear
Video is fake

Should be noted that those gains are less than fully reliable or intact most likely, but still

That can happen in a matter of days, if videos depicting ex-Russian T-72s and T-80s in combat on the Ukrainian side are any indication. Russia attacked on Feb. 23. No later than March 11, former Russian tanks were shooting back ... at the Russians.
The steady transfer to Ukraine, via captures, of hundreds upon hundreds of tanks, fighting vehicles, artillery, air-defense systems and trucks underlines the challenge Russia faces in achieving any of its strategic objectives in Ukraine.
The Kremlin realistically can’t kill its way to victory. Not as long as Ukraine, population 44 million, possesses reserves of human capital—and as long as the Ukrainians remain united in the defense of their homeland.
Yeah no, the post was deleted and russian official, Vyacheslav Volodyn, stated that he's still in stable conditions

#Ukraine: Ukrainian forces captured another T-72A tank, seen in this drone image.

oh hell fucking yes, they're way further from Mykolaiv now
There are also reports about fighting near or inside Hostomel airport. Dunno how accurate that is though, since they are mostly rumours I think
Isn't that part of the algedely encircled area?
But with the recent news about Russians being pushed back from Kyiv it seems plausible at elast
Afaik they're true, Arestovych today said that they encircled russians there
Not quite sure, still chaotic. I assume we'll get a proper update once the situation has become more clear
honestly this could be used as a negotiating chip
if it is a large ground encircled
especially if its 10, 20, 30k+
I assumed given the area it'd be denser in troops
I have no clue whether those numbers are accurate or just someone pulling them out of their ass
fair
we'll find out eventually I guess
Too chaotic while there is still fighting going on
He mostly just says that they're leaving tech and are trying to run away, but the status of Hostomel is still unclear
either way, awaiting more fertilizer

For the first time in Ukraine, the community of NFT artists and the Ministry of Culture have combined blockchain technology, art and historical facts.
❓The purpose of the NFT Museum To disseminate truthful information among the global digital community and raise funds to support Ukraine. The ...
Because NFT's are very easy to create. You basically just need a digital image and some money to auction it. Super easy to create and sell. Thats why there are so many scams. Because literally everyone can create one
And why NFT 'creators' are stealing everyone's existing art. Because actually making art is much harder than just stealing it from someone

Putin isn't going to stop the war because he can't listen to Spotify
has it pulled out of russia against the censorship laws? or is it because of them?
its not profitable for spotify to get there
For safety of staff
Spotify could be criminally liable for any anti-russian sentiment on their platform
Spotify has loads of podcasts, some political
Spotify doesn't want people being arrested, nor to censor their own platform
Is a generous take on it
so much of this stuff is just fucking over russian citizens so companies can get PR points instead of actually doing stuff to help Ukraine
to be fair
Spotify isn't profitable ever
almost every quarter it makes a net loss
and is kept afloat by investment
its the strategy that many companies, like amazon use
Get a shit load of money
Enter area
Drop prices to undercut everyone and make a net loss
Control market share
raise prices now theres no competitors left
become billionaires
less profitable now i guess
I think its a mix of what I said, wrt censorship
and following the group and pulling out
as a company its a lot easier to do what everyone else is doing then stand alone
and usually a lot more profitable
yeah
yeah guardian says it is that

People saying Russia has the second best military in the world
Bro they aren't even the second best military in Ukraine
Ukrainian monitors report that antidotes against nerve agents are being distributed among Russian invaders. If true, this may suggest the invaders are preparing for the use of chemical weapons.
862
482
...worrying if true!
It's all leading up to that, better be prepared
Multiple articles have circulated that NATO is planning to provide Ukraine with equipment to protect itself against chemical, biological, and unlikely nuclear threats from Russia.
So gas masks, potassium iodide tablets etc.
- name a few more key examples of equipment if you find an informative and credible source
what else... there was an information campaign by the Ukrainian gov, one for Ukrainian soldiers and another for Ukrainian civilians, for what to do in event of a Chemical attack - I'm sure ein37 would likely be informed on that.
What I can say is it's very tempting for the Russian military to start using chemical weapons like Sarin, Mustard or Chlorine gas to expedite the process of sieging cities like Kharkiv or Mariupol - Particularly given the invasion's progress has stalled.
I'd advise you all not to look too closely into why chemical weapons are morally abhorrent, even in the context of a bloody full scale war.

Honestly there should be a "days since Russia last threatened nukes" counter
It's been 2 days since the last time they did, clearly they're desperate
“But Russia’s obstinate attempts to take the city by assault at any price, despite extreme casualties, indicate nothing but Vladimir Putin’s utter desire to put his own emotional, political objectives over military necessity — not a good foundation for the whole campaign.” Very true
Forget not that hitlers insistence on capturing stalingrad and ignoring what his men were saying caused a massive loss of life for his troops

good that nobody got killed
After 77 years of relative peace and stability, war has come back to Europe. The Russian Federation has launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, aiming to subjugate them and forcefully bring them back into the Russian sphere of influence. The power hunger of an aging dictator has resulted in a conflict which has killed tens of thousands, and i...
very good video
only thing I can say here is it's really bad if it's Ukrainian soldiers and it's just showing their position, but if it's an area after a strike and it's showing the damage, the Russians can already look at this damage with their own spy satellites, drones, etc. anyway
during the Cold war the US and USSR were saying stuff like this all the time
it's dangerous but it's a return to Cold War policy pretty much
satellites maybe, drones would be taken out of air
that's true, although I'd guess that depends on the region
It could also potentially show areas where the most people are at
although from what I understand of the situation Russia would have unchallenged air superiority if it weren't for Ukrainian SAMs
like that concert
that's true
i personally think it's a pretty incompetent move coming from foreign media organisations that are in this business for more than a year
one of the big concerns I've seen with Elon Musk sending Starlink receivers to Ukraine is that satellite radios and phones have been used by Russia before to target cruise missiles
many of these media organizations have been covering wars for decades
exactly
I do think this is the first large scale war in the 21st century though
so it's definitely not new to them to preferably not disclose any information that might hurt civilians in the end
or at least it is the largest in the 21st century
Largest yet, but certainly not the only large scale war
and trust me, it won't stop on this war alone
even the sheer amount of troops involved makes it larger than anything for a very long time
in Europe I think the only thing that beats it in scale is ww2, granted by a lot though
theres hundreds of wars that beat it in scale in europe
if you count before ww2
I'm talking about most recent
fair
Europe is a place that had a hecking 100 years war, wars used to be Europe's thing
it wasn't constant though
there were decades long truces sometimes
the 30 years war was literally 30 years of constant war though
With this war though, I feel like we might be spectators of the world making a pretty big change
perhaps even demise of Russia entirely
as a ukrainian, I personally believe in a pretty nice future of the country after all this
surely, seeing all the destruction and ruins now, people who fled abroad
we'll have a ton of things to work on
but it won't be for nothing
it would be a new stage for Ukraine in the worldwide scheme of things
it's obvious by now, I believe in our victory with full heart, there's a very high chance for it
by this victory I also mean Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk finally coming back to us
with hopefully no threat on the borders in means of another attack
all these 8 years we've put our focus on the army, and it was definitely a good choice
but when peace finally comes, we'll finally be able to address other issues
like ceasing corruption, ruling out pro-kremlin politicians that are still in charge of some capacity
improve the educational system, medicinal system
so so so many things to work on for us to finally match the european standard of living
what about this then?
i'm just as confused as you
guess it's better to see later

More wheat stats.
My personal favorite Misleading Wheat Stat is "Ukraine/Russia grow 25% of world wheat exports."
Why's it misleading? It's technically true, but doesn't mean what people think!
Missing wheat from the war is actually less than 1% of global wheat crop!
11287
3701
Possibly, but I don’t think it’s a top priority… it‘d be easy enough, but at the same time I‘m not sure if Moldova has enough ideological value to justify action, and state media has been mainly focused on Poland and the Baltics recently
Still sucks for some countries that import a lot
Though its definitely better than just 25% less production
Read the thread, the main issue isn’t production but logistics
India will likely make up for the missing wheat but actually getting it to the places that imported wheat from Ukraine & Russia will be more difficult
Especially since there are plenty of issues with shipping already
- unnecessary speculation
I think I saw that Lithuania heavily relies on food imports, including wheat, so we're fucked atm and the wheat product prices will def skyrocket
Positive thing is that the war happened early enough that farmers are still able to switch their crops.
Dunno how the overall situation is, but I've seen a bunch of Dutch articles about how farmers here are switching their crops to wheat because it will be a lot more lucrative
Also a lovely article that starts with the phrase "pasta crisis possible in Italy"

Some were 19 and some were 39 or 63.
Victoria Polishchuk was 21. She served faithfully in a separate reconnaissance battalion of the air assault troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — it was her dream.
She died from shelling by enemy artillery in the Zhytomyr region.
These lives will not return. And the enemies continue to mercilessly bomb on...
from what I can see, they seem to weaken their positions on north, north-east, we're already reclaiming whole villages. considering their new "planned" goal is to hold as much south as possible, we'd need to hurry up a bit and work more on freeing Kherson
It would suck if the war gets stalled, but even then comes up a question of how long it could possibly be stalled
I never saw anything from ukraine cancelling their order to execute captured artilleryman
Did anything like that get posted?
Yeah, a lot of towns have been freed recently, and there were reports of "the russian offense collapsing in 3 days" 3 days ago. So hopefully this is a real turning point
I havent heard of this.. what are you talking about?
Was there an order for that to begin with? I can only remember that post from one of the military groups but even then it's just words
lemme find it again
kyiv independent reported it iirc
a couple weeks ago
I remember posting it here at the time
definitely is real, since they'd probably want to relocate forces on south-east and south
it was about killing all the artillery men for bombing all the cities
Ah
can someone pull the original post already
There was this one, iirc there was another
Well good that they cancelled that, because war crime = bad
did they cancel it?
Didnt you say that?
I've not heard anything about it being cancelled
oh
I said I never heard anything about it being cancelled
and there's no reports of them actually killing them all in cases where russians would surrender
So it is just empty meaning, full emotion post
There was the report i talked about earlier, though as mentioned its dispted
hopefully its just empty words
but even empty words are dangerous
I think you're focusing on not that meaningful things currently
in ww2 patton said to a group of his troops "take no prisoners" as a slogan/chant... it was misinterpreted as an order, and 60+ men were massacred
well you just said it, it was interpreted as a slogan
due to mass spread
here though it's a singular post
No, it was a slogan, that people interpreted as an order
Ah, I see
then the difference here is that in the post, there is no slogan
it's just a message to the artillery
The difference doesn't matter. Both can be interpreted as instructions by soldiers
Yeah
Or just motivate them to do so
And I fear it might be, especially amongst less-trained units
and the video this morning of a potential ukranian war crime is what brought this back up in my head
(what I refer to)
Real POWs being shot, dispute is just who, when and where
yeah, another fog of war situations
no one would probably be able to answer who when and where until this whole deal ends
I'm being careful not to assign blame or state it as fact till we get more evidence
as I've been trying to do, with failures, since the start
fog of war is very real

but he also stated that he's still willing to negotiate and that the main military goal of Ukraine now is "return everything to how it was before february 24th, move russian soldiers back where they were"
so it kind of puts liberation of Crimea and Donbas under question
I get his point, no one wants wars, no one wants to see death, negotiations are key
But how can we just negotiate after all this
and after all the other negotiation attempts with Kremlin simply saying we should succumb to it's options
Most importantly, how can we just leave Crimea and Donbas
it's just worrying
yeah it's concerning
so much suffering was made, 10s of millions of lives have been completely destroyed, there will never be something like before the invasion
I just hope that he changes his mind about this or that he misspoke
People just won't be able to accept it
I mean, it's likely a case of accepting the reality
To ask for crimea in the peace deal
they'd have to take crimea
which would involve months of war and an ungodly amount of bloodshed
Nobody wants to see war drag on for months and months more
and then ukraine experiences the same issues russia has flipped
as ukraines the one moving into hostile territory
the separatist donbass regions are more likely to be retaken then crimea, admittedly
Personally I'd like to see a NI style resolution for Crimea
can you specify who they is
Just saying "you are russian now" or "you are ukranian now" are both very incorrect ways of doing this
the Ukranian army
whats left of it in a few months
We mustn't blind ourselves to reality in the euphoria of victory
Holding off an invasion, and marching miles into enemy territory
are two very very different things
do you mean enemy territory as in the territory enemy has claimed
Territory the enemy has had control over since 2014
Politics aside... that area is in firm russian control
and would fight much harder
then the Russian army on the ground in ukraine
it'd be an incredibly blood battle to take crimea
mariupol but the sides are reversed
do you mean than or then
like here
and then here
Tbf im not sure which is grammatically correct
are you kidding
It's an implied thing in normal english speech
bruh
similar to "effect" and "affect"
doesn't make too much sense but alright
you'd use then if you'd talk about sequences
something happens and then something happens
and than for comparing
like that is heavier than this
also the hell is a "Ni style" resolution
wat
"effect" and "affect" are distinct words with different (but related) meanings, while "then" and "than" are distinct words with entirely unrelated meanings
yeah literally
A northern irish style way will not work
Northern Ireland's style didnt even work then and arguably not now
i.e gerrymandering meaning there wasn't minority rights it was just majority rules, division of communities etc
Then maybe do a better job at finding them
not to be rude but like
even a power sharing agreement wouldn't work as it could just lead to russia's side just holding the parliament hostage, similar to what the DUP are currently threatening at the moment
Hmm, ig that's fair
I was referring to powersharing with NI style
as like
It's a very difficult situation crimea
Theres both a sizeable Russian and Ukranian population - both nations have a degree of claim to the land (Course, these claims are not equal in validity)- and the chance of the communities peacefully co-existing after that is.... unlikely
i dont really know what the best solution is
and I really don't want to see it devolve to a form of sectarianism
Logical solution would be giving back what we owned, you make it sound like Crimea is just this neutral territory while it's clear that it was annexed back in 2014
Thing is.... It's not so simple
Well, shit, nothing is simple
Dude
and settling for just "oh please, just end this war" wouldn't be right either
We have every opportunity now to finally return what's ours, with Russia being pressed on almost every front, on the edge of default
Though.... you must be careful not to go "one bridge too far"
and by that you mean
One attack too far can doom an entire war
as in
If ukraine overcommits to crimea, which would be 20x harder then any other battle in this entire war
that could cost them the war
In the soviet invasion of poland, in the 20s, the soviets had poland at the gates of warsaw
The poles won the fight, and marched back mile upon mile into soviet land
Operation Market Garden is another example, and where the saying originated
Market Garden was a failure, but it didn't doom the war for the Allies
so I'm not sure it's the example you're looking for
Example of a lesser extent
Didn't doom the war, but proved the threat of overextending
and ukraines in a frail military situation
