shouldn't be an issue. Why moving them when you want to attack?
It’s very bad that they are being shown
Why would they be setting up ICBM’s for Ukraine which is relatively close?
A real question
they're set for either kyiv or sumy
Could just to show power or to be threatening
cause big boom i guess
another set of insiders taken hostage https://imgur.com/a/Iy08Bt4 (Kyiv)
ICBM's for the country next to you seems a bit ineffective
unless its for other countries
finland?
could be even Poland
Yeah, that’s what im wondering about. If they’re doing it for scare tactics, they messed up on their logic, which is why it makes me think it could be something else, i dunno
also they wouldn't just move them in public. Seems more as a threat
that is a good point
Yeah I assume these are for threating further away countries for sending aid
Hmm true
That's what makes sense to me
moving ICBMS on a highway seems like a nice way to have them tracked
Because moving them at all is incredibly risky right
Yeah
So why do it unless you had some sort of ulterior motive, such as.... I don't know, a scare tactic
yeah that makes sense
Yeah makes sense
Same here
"As an ICBM flies over, another nuclear state would treated this as nuke-loaded missile. A targeted country can't know what an ICBM is actually carrying!" they have a point
Well, if russia launches at a country just for providing aid... especially a NATO country, that would trigger the pact, wouldnt it
That would yes
I think
Since its a weapon of war, it would very likely be considered an act of aggression
I know its not right, but if it prevents war does it make sense to let them have ukraine
oh
this is putin's war, not russia's
Appeasement doesn't help. Look at WW2
true
Yeah, if Putin gets Ukraine, he’ll likely push farther for more land that the Soviet Union originally had
Such as Moldova and Georgia, which aren't in NATO
He might push for the corridor between Poland and Lithuania
Sure hold on
and I think its even unusual that another dictatorship doesnt want war
It’s good that he’s saying it but it does feel odd
China is looking at their worldwide reputation
Oh true
but, if it makes putin agree it may be for the best, suprised even china can see this would plumit them too
because their reputation, and also a wide scale war would be catastrophic
yes the rep matters to them, why do you think they do all that stuff this olympics cycle
as i think dowo said earlier, china has a lot more to lose than russia
especially in terms of their economy and industry
wait what happened?
Too true unfortunately
also it takes a special recklessness to do what russia is doing rn
Yuuup sportswashing's super hot rn
All the rage
I'm actually surprised that China would sway a little against Russia on this one
they just tried to hide stuff of like their figure skaters falling down in the olympics
its kinda a testament to much russia is fucking up their global image
cause their rep is that they are perfect
Pretty much
nahnah i mean people deleting their messages
o
Well today is friday
For some people saturday
they're doing that rn
Yup, just saw that
Direct sanctions on Putin and one other person
do you think biden would ever be able to meet with putin
At this stage? Unlikely
it's thought to be a fake as of now
Strong unity in condemning Russia and supporting Ukraine at today’s NATO Summit with Sweden, Finland and the EU. We stand side by side with our NATO partners.
Joe and Vladimir link up
Diplomatic talks are off the table, and any interactions would likely be through their diplomats or over the phone
Absolutely
sweden prime minister
Syria's government is supporting russia Putin it seems? https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/2/25/syrias-assad-praises-russias-ukraine-invasion-as-correction
It'd be too risky otherwise, I think we are way past the point of talking
sadly
That’s not good
wew he finally did it
its at the point of punching each other in the face
Great
Thank god
What else can Biden do?
i hope this does help stop them
its a good thing that china isnt fully backing them
ngl what sanctioning those 2 will do, since they could still travel anywhere they want
if putin doesnt care for his people, he must at least care for his money
like what assets
That's what I'd imagine ein
otherwise at that point it could get pretty bad
very good thing, probably because china relies on their reputation for industries
seems to be from 2018. Glad to have sites for fact checking this stuff
Honestly considering a lot of Russian oligarch assets are stored in banks overseas or in foreign properties, the next course of action would likely to strip them of property if at all possible
yeah thats what i said
ye
could you share links?
i paraphrased you lol
https://t.co/SXBmevj1Jj another video has been sent over in the DM’s from 2018 of Topol on the move in Moscow which could also be the source, just happens to be that footage is suddenly surfacing again. As some said in the reply to the original tweet, psyops.
it'd be nice to have some sites to back up info
I think the London mayor had called for the seizing of Russian oligarch owned properties, but I don't know how much will come of that
thank you 🙏
cough cough Switzerland
huh
This makes more sense
This face terrifies me
I love it
chocolate eaters?
Alex Ovechkin spoke about the war, interesting to see sports icons like that taking about it
they are not 100% on point but as they say themself "Hi. new followers, as I work through news and situtations some tweets get deleted so misinformation isn’t shared as we cut through everything trying to work out what’s going on. If you see things come and go, that’s why. Also, welcome along."
Yes, but also the place where most Russian money in Europe goes through
Especially sports players who are from Russia
if ovechkin speaks id assume people like panarin would also speak
my mom hasn't been following the news lol
It makes sense that sports icons are talking about it tbh
there was also the russian tennis player who said "please no war after winning a match"
she was pretty surprised when I told her russia was threatening war with our country lol
Yup yup, especially those in the international sport spotlight
They've got a platform and all that
Well especially him since he was born and raised in Russia
They've got influence interestingly enough so them speaking out against it is a very good thing
It's still something. It's always a joy to our souls to see people outside of this trying to do their part
yes
😭
Well this just shows that not all of Russia is allied with Putin
Which we expected

fucking hate putin, i was saying he should be dethroned back in 2012.
i am so fucking mad

he should've never gotten to the top of the political power to begin with, let's be honest
Bless this reporter
Speaking of Russian athletes speaking out against the violence
its really sad to see russian people be brainwashed
He’s a big supporter of Putin, but even he is against the war
it's so clear that the ambassador is literally just reading a file that was sent to him
Yuppp
I mean, Ovechkin’s Instagram pfp is literally him with Putin
he's not going to
brainwashed idiot
he has to save his family from getting in trouble, since they're all back in russia
I mean fair
i don't hate his statement and i don't disagree with what he said in this instance, but to say that he's "not really into politics" is a blatant lie
yeah
brutal
could be a one-moment post
Absolutely
furthermore, it's ridiculous that the media takes advantage of these guys to talk about it in the first place. this shouldn't have even been an interview. leave him alone
I'm sure he is smart enough but just had a lot of propaganda follow him his entire life
That’s true
PutinTeam is a social movement announced in 2017 by NHL player Alexander Ovechkin to support Russian President Vladimir Putin.Ovechkin has a personal relationship with Putin. They've made out many times. Putin and Ovechkin often have threesomes with Alex's wife. It is consensual. Ovechkin has a personal phone number for Putin and received a pre...
you what
Oh
that is one hell of an embed bamba
No no, i meant the post with him being against war
what the fuck lmao
lmao
that was a fucking hell of a read
They've made out many times
what
i believe that he doesn't want this war, but i also believe that he still believes in putin as president
someones been having a laugh on wikipedia again
are you ignoring the next sentence? lmao
Absolutely not I was just stunned by the they made out line lmao
hm
there's a lot that goes into this (and i have many more feelings about it), but the number one thing about this situation is that sports media only wants to sensationalize this for no reason
media will be media
This is just hilarious

it's fake
this is
still pretty damn funny
did it happen to you?
true but still
damn if only it was true
Has this been sent?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other government leaders vow to stay and defend Kyiv as Russia continues to pound Ukraine with airstrikes.
Possibly
yeah i did earlier today
this one has subs tho
Ukraine and Russia are discussing place and time for talks - Reuters, citing Zelenskiy's spokesman
there is even an english dub version now
How do we think this is going to turn out
Because anything Putin says, as far as I'm concerned can't be trusted. I wouldn't put it past him to say he'll back down on xyz conditions, Ukraine agrees and he continues the attack anyway
Putin would probably not come
"demilitarization and neutrality"
Streets of Sumy, where intense street battles took place. "Slava Ukraini!" (Glory to #Ukraine) https://t.co/zNedLTzQ5s
wait does russia still not have sumy?
this seems incredibly embarrasing on their part
this whole war is pretty embarrasing on their part
Agreed
for sure
putin is probably pissed at how embarrassing its been going for them
declares war to prove their dominance, and ends up struggling and turning most of the entire world against them
i think russia just underestimated how easy ukraine would be
rn there's like
200k deployed russian troops
100k-200k
you mean overestimated?
on the news here they mentioned that Russia has only sent their "scouting" troops atm to see how difficult it would be to take over Ukraine
but I am unsure how truthful this is
yeah
paying the bills for my apartment, and there's always a charity donation thing to round up the bill, so 57 cents is going to Ukraine, I feel like I just did something actually useful lmao
Only 1/3 has been actually deployed so far
i mean i dont doubt russia has a lot more military power they could be using
apparently belgium is sending militia to the eastern border
"To stop the advance of the tank column, the decision was to blow up the Henichesk bridge. The engineer Skakun Vitaliy volunteered to perform this task. He mined the brdige but couldn't leave and blew it up together with himself." The unit successfully redeployed - Land Forces https://t.co/7eMWTv03kX

1/3 of all russian troops?
that is true, bless his soul
not surprising
o7
ok the charity is the lithuanian red cross, food banks and save the children stuff, and nearly 171k euros have been raised so far by other lithuanians
putin's goal in this seems quite clear - depose ukranian government and establish a pro-russian government that can easily be controlled
that's why they're trying to take on Kyiv asap
Those people who are there, protecting it tonight
they're making history
o7
The Ukrainian army also made a bank account
for donations
got $10mn in 24h
stupid amount of money
Of the troops Russia deployed to the border

the last statement is questionable
as far as i've heard, they're willing to negotiate even without us surrendering
when you're against an invasion force of ~190k, that's probably not a lot
Yeah
I just meant by most online donation standards
10million in a day is... almost unbelievable
Ik there's pins with resources, but here's a comprehensive list on how people internationally can help Ukraine via charities rather than bank transfer
The last statement makes me sus of his intentions tbh
Also anonymous leaked the entire russian ministry of defence
Since not everyone can/should wire transfer atm
The info is findable online easily, but for TOS/rules reasons I won't say where/provide links
I think that's one of the links pinned
Its names, emails, adresses, phone numbers etc of Russian defence folks
gotta have that one as the top
I don't see one
ye best not to
All good sage

I'd like to point out that the Russian army is having a shit time getting through Ukraine, like they're moving through, but very slowly, and their enemy is has much less numbers than them in every department, so what does this say about the "Russian Might"? https://armedforces.eu/compare/country_Ukraine_vs_Russia
Did you guys see the video of the ukranian soldier spelling out the situation to the russian ocupation force he honestly terifies me
Oh wow that's a pretty detailed breakdown
idk the sources so don't take anything on that website literally lol, I only found it 2 mins ago
Their about us for reference
i think that, while that was accurate some time ago, current situation is way different
Ukranians have evryting to lose they wont give up while most russian teens who where forced into the army propely dont now why there even there
Amazing
sweet
putin's war tbh
Oh also, if anyone wants to read up on the history of the tensions between Ukraine and Russia starting in the 1990s, NPR does a pretty good job of detailing everything on how we got to this point
https://www.npr.org/2022/02/12/1080205477/history-ukraine-russia
Giving up is getting send to a work camp in siberia a fate worse then dead most of the time
I mean Russian government is horrible, but I don't think SIberian work camps have existed since Stalin passed
I say this when the past several days I've equated Putin to being the 2nd Stalin
there are maximum security prisons with no heating tho
as time passes russia can just send more troops
they've sent a relatively small number to ukraine as i said
The issue won’t be troops but logistics I think
Yeah, however soon it will be super hard to send in anything due to the ground thawing and making it all muddy
And if things get really bad for them, they‘ll go for more missiles
the russian prisons are the most violent internaitonally so probably
it's been quite a warm winter here in eastern europe, so that'll happen quite soon too
Ah cool
russia is bad but its not like nk
As far as I‘m aware, they‘ve mostly been sticking to the highways
even then
russia
well
is russia
Ah i see, i still think the large amounts of rain and mud will slow them as well
if they really wanted they could nuke ukraine
Russia is known for having some of the harshest max-level security prisons BUT
They are definitely not the most deadly
Not by a long shot
like
And itll make ukraine have a much easier time defending with the slower push
Why destroy a land you want to control
I think the public already isn’t supporting Putin
I don’t think Russia would nuke ukraine, that would ruin the point of why Putin invaded in the first place
Most peapol forget that ukrain has been at war since 2014 they have veterens who dont care about anyting anymore while the russian army is stacked out with teens forced into the war
Exactly
thats not the point
im not talking about carpet bombing with nukes
It is totally the point.
the weather is beginning to warm here
though it snowed yesterday
urd
if russia wanted they could nuke like a single small ukranian town and surrender would be guaranteed
bagel ur on the other side of europe
If we're looking at Russia's history, their goal would likely be to annex Ukraine just as they did Crimea
yes but i am northern
Using nukes in any way will lead to moscow in flames mark my words
hopefully it warms up enough to thaw the ground soon
those jerk-faces destroyed Mriya
i dont think the goal is to annex ukraine
crimea was a warning to ukraine
gone but never forgotten
So idk whether it would be in their interest to nuke Ukraine, but missile striking has not been and is not off the table
I'm like 600km from the nearest battlefield so the weather's slightly similar, and even looking at satellite maps it looks to be around the same
Has any news been released on the ghost of kyiv
russia wants ukraine to be pro russia
Other than him getting an ace? Haven't heard much news otherwise
at least the government
I feel like sending a missle is not the way you get that
it worked for japan
Also its almost the dead aniversary of the snake island 13
wonder how that's gonna work out for them when literally everyone in ukraine and outside of it knows that it's just some puppets being installed in the government, nobody other than Kremlin would complain about the puppets being removed
it's not dead!
lets goo
nice
epic
It big
The difference is tho now practically everyone has nukes, so nuking ukraine would likely not go without some kind of very heavy consequences
If putin uses a single nuke it will just start a domino chain that will end with moscow gouing up into nuclear fire mark my words
Ah sweet
ukraine is not a nuclears weapon state
🙁
Oh no
and im sure no other country would want russia
and it to be engaged in a nuclear war
Its a russian news source, it cant be verified 100%
Its mid night in ukraine now
true
russia has lied about literally everything
It worked in Japan, because no one else had nukes nor the capability to launch a nuclear strike
Nightime raids with silent guns will start soon
thats not the point
This
Ye
the point is that the us nuked japan, and despite the casualties was able to turn public support towards the us
also
Not without resistance, but they indeed took it again
No the point is as stated about a million times now, if Russia wanted to use nukes they would have
they dont wanna use nukes because they dont think they have to
If russia did go and nuke ukraine and didnt face any nukes from anywhere else, the populous of russia would surely be riled up, with possibly revolts id think
It's extremely unlikely Russia would nuke Ukraine - there's no benefit in nuking a country you're trying to subjugate.
Not to mention the severe international diplomatic consequences - Russia would be isolated on the world stage for decades.
Yeah russia wouldnt nuke ukraine
Exactly
Shit whyd that reply
But russia would i think use nukes on others if worst came to worst
no
Putin is a megalomaniac, but he's not a moron.
again
Well, i might be wrong but dont multiple people in the russian military also have to agree with putin on a nuclear strike?
He would never see it grow if he nuked it
nuking doesnt mean complete destruction
...
Yes it does
no??
@rare walrus I would assume so... but i would need to read things.
It fucking does
again japan
Where are your sources, racc
It means complete destruction and unlivable conditions for the next several years
are you aware of how nukes work?..
Japan got an atomic bomb. Nuclear is different
what
Yes nukes havent at all grown stronger in 80 years
do you
Warhead loads have greatly increased since then
Absolutely
that doesnt mean that they NEED to use a very large warhead
Doesn't matter how much damage a single nuke does anyway. Firing one means firing them all eventually.
Hmm i see, if it is that case than even if putin went for a nuke, he would somehow need to convince his officials that its a good idea and wont totally bring the downfall of russia or something like that
that
^
Not as if we had two tiny ones compared to the several thousand massive ones russia has
Indeed
Plus look at Chernobyl. Meltdown years ago destroyed that region
how?
as i said
look at japan
Still uninhabitable
Again Japan doesn't work racc, the nukes Russia has now are insanely more powerful, it won't be 2 bombs, it will be multiple rockets with multiple warheads each, dummy decoys and all
You think the country being shot at won't fire back lol. The doctrine employed by some countries right now is to fire on warning even, not even waiting for something to land..
ukraine doesnt have nukes
Yeah, the nuke would wreak havoc on ukraine, let alone the environmental damage
Countries defending it do
Nukes have gotten larger and more destructive. That was in 1945. 2022 is way different
Plus, a nuke on ukraine could have environmental damage on neighboring countries
There are certainly some strongly allied
but
Which could possibly bring nato in as well
this is a stupid topic
firstly, there is no reason to nuke Ukraine when conventional military strategies would succeed.
And if russia used a nuke on ukraine that would heavily disrupt neighbors
^^
Y’all ever heard of Mutually Assured Destruction
Plus jet stream would blow fallout over Russia proper
Nuking ukraine would also probably result in almost every world leader turning against putin
secondly nuking a country you're invading prevents any benefits gained from conquering that nation - it becomes a nuclear wasteland.
Violently
oh my god
There’s zero chance Ukraine gets nuked idk why this is a discussion
thirdly nuking a country is diplomatic suicide
as i said i dont mean nuking every inch of ukrsine
They’re at Kiev in 2 days
This talks about the damage if just one nuke
nobody
France took weeks to fall in WW2
You think small or controlled nuclear bombs exist anymore
would defend ukraine
do you not realise that one bomb is enough?
this is not MAD its just AD
There is a game that simulates this, defcon. I would reccomend looking up analysis on that game, because firing one nuke will almost always end with mutual destruction
Russia choosing to nuke any country at all means they could choose to do so for any other country in the future, so why would other countries ignore that just because it isn't them.
Exactly
the damage it would cause: physical, ecological..
people hav a flawed idea that the moment one nuke is launched every other nation will suddenly begin nuking eachother
the thing is
Preach
The thing is yeah Ukraine isn't being helped militarily but as soon as you bring a nuke to the table a whole lot changes
We dont produce or have bombs that are "convenience size", we have bombs that destroy the entire region beyond recognition
anybody here speak Ukrainian?
there is no reason why any nation would nuke russia
because they would certainly be destroyer
i do
At all

Can I DM you some patches I have to translate them?
hmmm, thats.... curious
Russia earlier attacked and was driven back by a counter-offensive, to attack with "No resistance" seems.... unlikely
sorry
Russia: launches one nuke
Everyone else: "Oh fuck, Putin's so unhinged that he's willing to throw nukes around, we have to do something about that"
It's quite incredible how little sense you're making tbh
kk
Google translate is being dumb
noone expects all nukes to go off within a second, but firing a nuclear warhead, even a single one, ends with mutual destruction
how
What do you mean how
if russia were to fire a nuke at lioe
Please read the article I posted
the us yeah
that's just how it goes man
i would also reccomend reading about the false alarms during the cold wars, and how nukes were almost fired
one nuke can change a lot by itself
Also again, nuking a land they want to control is counter productive. There's be nothing left
Any nuclear bomb used on any country will lead to MAD
a nuke was almost fired against the us
Russia also unleashed Armageddon because they wrongly thought they detected a singular US launch
this is not the us
And the fallout would be felt BEYOND Ukraine
Racc you're ignoring the fact that modern warheads A: are fired in large amounts on a single rocket like 14 warheads per ICBM B: Modern warheads do create insanely huge blasts whichs fallout would reach beyond Ukraine, and would threaten both Russia and the European neighbors
during the cuban missile crisis a soviet submarine came extremely closely to firing nukes (2/3 senior staff gave approval, the captain refused) because they were cut off from comms and wrongly thought the USA was attacking
It saddens me that you think Russia could bomb Ukraine and nothing would happen to Russia for doing that
that does not matter racc, what matters is that nukes get fired. the country is in a sense irrelevant. there is always going to be someone else that retaliates, thus mutual destruction
It's a bit baffling you think other countries wouldn't consider russia an imminent nuclear threat because they fired a nuke at a different country. They would have just demonstrated they are willing to use nukes against people they don't like for reasons that only make sense to them. At that point why would anyone with an already strained relationship with them consider themselves safe.
anyway this discussion seems extremely stupid so imma dip
same
including every other state with nukes
Which is why Russia WONT use nukes.
ukraine has nukes. russia does. nuking russia is guaranteed MAD. nuking ukraine
oh my fuck i give up
if nukes are fired, everything is off the table. thats why the cold war never got hot
right i'll just summarise why Russia won't use nuclear warheads on Ukraine
- firstly, there is no reason to nuke Ukraine when conventional military strategies would succeed (and by the looks of it will succeed... eventually)
- secondly nuking a country you're invading prevents any benefits gained from conquering that nation - it becomes a nuclear wasteland and you can't establish a puppet government
- thirdly nuking a country is diplomatic suicide, and Russia would be renegaded on the international stage for decades
- fourthly nuclear fallout can be blown across borders into Europe, further raising tensions and giving a justification for war to other nations indirectly hit by the radioactive fallout, which would then have cause to directly intervene in the Russo-Ukrainian war
what are you trying to tell at this point man
5th is MAD
Also nuking ukraine would spread fallout to russia too
it depends where the nuke is
This.
Nuking something in ukraine could literally affect moscow
No????
but MADness only applies when both nations have a nuclear arsenal
No it doesn't
this isnt chernobyl russia has small nukes
Wind!!
THIS
THISS
Omg
they can literally wait for the wind to blow the opposite direction
Ah yes
wind is unpredictable
Racc are you dumb
The predictable nature of weather
Ah yes because weather is predictable
You can't count on the weather for anything
Putin & the gang are fucking insane but I’d imagine even they understand that nukes in this situation would be like pouring oil into a fire
You seem to be really overthinking a situation that russia doesn't have a reason to ever be in
Absolutely
Yes the wind universally blows the same way everywhere and its also predictable and all nuclear fallout is gotten rid of in a matter of hours
Weaponry that relies on weather to not cause friendly casualties was decided to be a bad idea in WWI
I say we should cover this topic up, this discussion is pointless
^
I agree
you dont need to insult me
This is a lot of hypotheticals
@fierce arch nuclear fallout reaching a NATO country would trigger article 5 since it can be constructed as an attack on the country
Understanding the rationale behind the usage of a nuclear option is difficult, and as @nocturne bobcat puts it purely hypothetical
only if the country wants to trigger article 5
real people are in an intense amount of danger at the moment and it's not worth the mindless speculation. best to move on
preach
@fierce arch trust me every single eastern NATO country is waiting for the slightest excuse
Thank you, bamba
you mean that splinter state in moldova which still thinks it's communist and part of Russia?
yes
and may have given military access to Russian troops?
I know someone who was a stone throw away from it
i haven't followed up on that
Wonder who russia plans on going after next
the rest of Georgia, central Asia, idk
Hopefully no one
no
Russia will be trying to stabilise it's economy, and supress the Ukrainian insurgents, in the event they do succeed.
North Kazakhstan
I think putin definitely has more plans
This is all assuming he's successful in his takeover of Ukraine
sage
Putin wants the old Soviet block back and he wants NATO pushed away from Moscow
If he fails with ukriane i wonder if he'll pick another former bloc contry to go after
Yeah
yeah this discussion really drifted offtopic, im going to bed
@opal cloak if he completely fails with Ukraine and is fully repelled it'll be the end of his 'presidency'
please stop doing that
So was my statement???
yeah, and it was considered in us congress earlier that if russia does succeed, a bill for help from the us for an insurgency could occur
I literally said "assuming"
Some speculation can still be more likely to be correct than some others
peace to everyone, prayers for kyiv 🙏
Stay safe man
gnight, stay safe!
I can speculate that tomorrow america is going to send the entirety of its military to ukraine
I thought we were talked about Ukraine
there's already so much misinformation that can be going around. it's already hard enough to discern facts from speculation. please don't add to it and create even more tension and chaos here
Obviously disproveable
take care, ein. stay safe
Does anyone have any links on how the Ukrainian refugees are doing?
i think that's somewhere which won't have any disinfo
Hmm
i hear that ireland and poland dropped the need for a visa for ukranians to get into their countries, but other than that i havent heard anything
Thank you friend
Ooooo Ireland did too
Last I heard it was just Poland
Why did Ireland do it. Aren’t they a bit far
actually i just found a website showing all the countries where ukrainians can go without a visa, not sure if its accurate tho: https://visafreecountries.com/ukrainian-passport
Ireland likes to help people (potato famine and all), and they benefit from migration economically, and diplomatic clout for assisting refugees.
Oh
Can't help being far away I guess
Ye
Although they did get roped into the discourse ™️ earlier
Cause u need to forbeough lots to get there
What did i miss?
Why is there a TM on the text.
Not a whole lot
The more countries the better. Poland will be overwhelmed if all refugees just stay there so spreading them out relieves some of the burden on systems of Poland
because ™️
I think there are those more informed than myself on the Irish political stance towards Ukrainian refugees - i'm assuming from my prior knowledge
Very good point
with that being said about refugees: i'd like to pass on this link where you can donate to hatzalah ukraine, which is a crisis organization that has been working on saving ukrainian jews in the cherkasy region to find refuge outside of ukraine https://thechesedfund.com/avior-victims-of-terror-inc/hatzalah?aff=Help

In the last few minutes we took another bus heading towards the Moldova border to the city of Chisinau
We call on the public in the last call to leave Ukraine immediately as long as possible Please do not be complacent The tendency to think that the rage will pass and stay in place can be a dangerous mistake Also...
The migrant crisis will be like 2014-2015 all over again - the EU will have to work together to space out the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees across all member states fairly.
There’s also a Latvian fund: https://www.ziedot.lv/en/stand-with-ukraine-4203
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/central-european-countries-prepare-receive-ukrainian-refugees-2022-02-24/
Here's some more info about who's actively offering aid to Ukrainian refugees
Bbc has thicc urls
Plus who's sending aid to Ukraine
Just to make the point the original url was https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-europe-60517447?ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=twitter&ns_campaign=bbc_live&ns_linkname=6218e1b90ce87e491a0ecfe1%26'Don't use Ireland to justify the unjustifiable%2C' Russia told%262022-02-25T14%3A44%3A18%2B00%3A00&ns_fee=0&pinned_post_locator=urn:asset:0ccc6c94-f998-42b3-938e-fd7881d5d83c&pinned_post_asset_id=6218e1b90ce87e491a0ecfe1&pinned_post_type=share
Amazingly the article wasn't paywalled
Jesus
Sorry to sound like an asshole, but they might just shove them all in one country and let the """""""host country"""""""" use the refugees as bargaining chips to bully the EU even more
That's a biggin
Bless
Chomky
100% bless, paywalling info during this crisis would be fucking messed up
Yup yup agreed Sylvie
yeah, ive seen countless articles online about the ongoings in Ukraine be behind a subscription and stuff like that, its really messed up
does reuters paywall?
Generally yeah
I appreciate the new York times and the Washington Post making their articles available instead of being like "pay one dollar to read more"
didn't know that, ty
Bloomberg credible?
@frail gulch well i remember last year Belarus tried that with Poland, using Kurdish migrants they took in - what there needs to be is a coordinated effort from the EU to ensure the mass migration is as streamlined and stable as possible. Fortunately I believe most Europeans are in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and will at least tolerate the migrants so you won't end up with right wing reactionary movements like last decade.
Np, Reuters generally paywalls articles but they make ones available if they're pertinent to important ongoing events
usually
I was mostly talking about Turkey and their general assholery towards Syrians, but yeah
ah right
this isn't total scripture, but this is a media bias chart that may help when trying to stick to unbiased/objective trustworthy sources
because Turkey """""""""cares""""""""" about Syrian migrants
Turkey did take in the most migrants of all countries from Syria tho do remember - even if they aren't properly tolerated.
Turkey is using the Syrians as bargaining chips against the EU, and have been for the past 7 years
^^^^
Is kyiv under control yet?
Why else would they threaten to open the border to Bulgaria and Greece?
Under control of who?
russia
I'm very sorry, but ur mum
lmaoo
And no
Check again in the morning, at the earliest
That was an autocorrect error smh
Kyiv will probably hold out as long as they physically can
They people defending Kyiv have a lot more reasons to fight than the Russians laying siege
urban warfare can become extremely bloody and bogged down
I really hope most of the civilians, who aren't fighting to defend their country, get out
has no fuck ass been arrested yet
no he made a vid tho epic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oULSBdQb-U

just discussing everything going on right now with Russia and Ukraine. honestly can't believe this is happening. the regular Russian citizens did not want this war. I'm terrified, frustrated, embarrassed and confused.

i think that's wishful thinking tbh
We somtimes need to wich for tings to cling onto
pretty sure he's near impossible to break out, isnt he in one of the siberian work camps the government denies exists?
IL-76 carries 120-230troops
a huge tragic loss of life, but also a gigantic military win for ukraine
if that is true
sadly tho this is war, there is a huge inevitable loss of life no matter what
Wow. Literally today the Home Office has released a short briefing explaining how its new anti-refugee law will enable deportation of a Ukrainian (or other) refugee who passes through a third country on the way to the UK for “overseas asylum processing”. https://t.co/1IFO63WVDE

Still yet to be confirmed
Yep

such is the nature of the horror of war

Just a super gentle friendly remembly that Twitter isn't a reliable source - if there's sources credited within the Tweet then that's different of course. Just be sure to know where the info is coming from.
But also fuck putin for starting this
Grateful to all members of the UN Security Council 🇦🇱 🇧🇷 🇫🇷 🇬🇦 🇬🇭 🇮🇪 🇰🇪 🇲🇽 🇳🇴 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 who voted to stop 🇷🇺 treacherous attack on 🇺🇦 & 🇺🇳 Charter. The veto of 🇷🇺 is a bloodstain on its plaque in the Security Council, the map of Europe & 🌎. Anti-war coalition must act immediately!

sadly the reality is that death is inevitable in war 😔
UN being as useful as ever
As 🇷🇺 continues to attack Kyiv, the draft resolution is co-sponsored by an unprecedented number of 🇺🇳 Member States. This proves: the world is with us, the truth is with us, the victory will be ours 🇺🇦!
there's unconfirmed reports that ukrainian air defenses have shot down a russian il-76 full of paratroopers, that's huge if true
BBC report of some noteable instances of fake news
It's not fake
the images are available on twitter
extremely gorey, I advise you don't google it. And don't repost it here if you do
Ukraine are compiling that as part of evidence of war crimes
They also attacked a hospital with cluster ammunition
jfc
wtf Putin
So do we have a chance of kicking out ru from security Council?
Fun fact: Russia, the US, the UK, France, and China are all permanent members of the UN Security Council and each holds the power to veto (like what Russia just did). They are the only permanent members of the UN Security Council, and were made such following the Allied Victory in WWII
:(
Originally, Nationalist China (now the Republic of China, located in Taiwan) was a permanent member of the UN Security Council, but in the 1970s, following Communist China's victory in the Chinese Civil War in the 50s, they (the CCP) argued that Nationalist China/Taiwan shouldn't hold the seat, and managed to win
I could be a little bit off in terms of the specifics so read this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Security_Council) if you want to learn more. The fact that Russia is a permanent member of the UN SC (and that they hold veto powers) means that any UN resolution about the current war would have (for all intents and purposes) no chance of succeeding.
any resolution is for symbolic purposes to show russian isolation from the rest of the world
#Ukraine 🇺🇦: this missile failed to explode as it was fired at #Kharkiv.
What's telling is that this missile is in the middle of a neighborhood, not a single military target around. Shows you the disregard to civilian life by the #Kremlin. https://t.co/IA5yD3FbpX

Well shit
I didnt know missiles were that long
starting to hear more reports of that
here's one:

Ukraine’s Air Defense have shut down IL-76 with Russian landing troops near Vasylkiv (Kyiv region). And after that - SU-24. Make them escape! Glory to defenders of our land! https://t.co/Cafc85Fyj6
You should see the ballistic ones.
They are like whole truck bed long
Like "heres a car for scale"
I would rather not have the displeasure of seeing one
Oh my god 😭
I was not gonna show here but I’ll dm if you want
Oh
Some range to 30M
I guess not
You should add a spoiler
Not sure if people wanna see that
yea
why
I was gonna dm rather than show it here
long
big
idfk why the spoiler didn't work
🤨
Nope
Bruh
🗿
Hold up
I am enabling the spoiler maybe they just don't work in threads?
thanks
you can do it on a phone now
probably
that's what I was trying to do
tap the picture and select "add spoiler" or something
Yeah.....General Assembly is gonna vote on it now since UNSC is paralyzed
Huh
Well considering its focus is on a member of the SC, i think that would be a given (regardless who it is)
Probably
people pointed out that this looks like the remain of a BM-30 Smerch missile. The head (with the explosive) departs from the engine (which is seen stuck in the street)
what was that resolution even trying to do, besides criticize russia? if that’s all it is, who cares if it passes
i thought the un was meant to be stronger than the league of nations, turns out they’re basically the same
here is even the structure to explain what can be seen
wow
I sure hope when I wake up and there's still a Kyiv left
as much as i wanted to rest, the coffee rush does not allow me
you holding up ok?
i hope so too
Just a few days ago I'd be fooling around with pals in school
Be worried about upcoming exams
to have this all suddenly fall onto us
where are you atm?
Still in Odessa, it's surprisingly quiet
There were countless rumours and predictions that we'd take the attack first due to our location
stay safe out there the best you can
stay safe 😮
but, fortunately or not, there hadn't been any dangerous movement
of course, we still follow the guidelines and expect future directives
i know of someone from odessa as well and she sounds as if she's been terrified. i hope that both of you and your families remain safe
Might've been due to tech occasionally rolling down streets and the latest use of air defence strikes
but the situation is very mild compared to other cities
Kharkiv, Chernigov, Kyiv
Mariupol, Melitopol
what can i say
Whatever happens - happens
I know that my people are set for victory and will do everything in their strength to achieve it
No one wants Ukraine to fall. Not again
yeah i really hope it goes well for you guys
What's up with Kyiv: most official news sources say that occupants are trying to destroy CHP-6, while also committing landing operations in Vasylkiv
I just realized that the acronym for the UN Security Council is the same for the United Nations Space Command from the Halo Universe.....
Here's hoping that the GA can actually do something. Like it was said earlier, any resolution passed by the GA will be mostly symbolic, but it'll be a worthwhile symbolic-slap-to-the-face to Putin.
how's Ukraine doing?
Here's also hoping that the Russian people manage to do something successfully against Putin. Maybe this war will be a wake up call, but given Putin's history of cracking down on protests, it's gonna take a lot of guts for the Russian people to stand up to him
I heard Russia was isolated at the UNSC, China abstaining
I may be wrong, but from what I've heard, the Russians have been slowed down somewhat, and that President Zelensky is "discussing possible ceasefire talks with Russia" (according to the Independent).
⚡️More shelling reported near power plant in northern Kyiv.
For the second time in the past 24 hours, Russians are trying to attack a thermal power station in Troieshchyna, Kyiv’s northern left-bank area.
The Ukrainian military is repelling the attacks.

I don't how well they did today, but I do know that the "Ghost of Kyiv" has been fucking up the Russian Air Force
Wasn’t ghost of kyiv fake
Or am I wrong
I thought I read a post about it being fake
explosions in kyiv right now
ono
There's a lot of controversy regarding ghost of kyiv
the whole thing is dire
.
I know you're not in Kiev, but having your country be stormed like that is really really rough
so I can only wish you the best
It was thought to be fake, but even the official government channels seem to pin the thought that he is real
Could probably be fake, but anything to boost morale
i mean it works
Ukrainians need every bit of morale they could get
they sure do, they need support and most of all they need to not feel alone
well the whole of Europe is backing them up, but they can't go all guns blazing
I mean France has offered military support, I think Bojo is a little too caught up in Vegan saussage rolls to make a statement yet
Germany supports them
any news?
Isn't Germany all caught up in that energy-supply controversy (then again, isn't all of Western Europe)?
Surprisingly he's pledged to support Ukraine, He has dogged exactly what support he'll give but yeah
Probably sanctions tbh
Scholtz is resisting putting sanctions on SWIFT, and the Russian energy sector, however he has delayed the certification of Nord Stream 2
tbf france/uk arent as bad, cant speak for iberia
lots and lots of bombings in Kiev
france has a lot of domestic nuclear power
it's a mass takeover of the Capital at this point
uk gets a lot from british north sea drilling / imported from norway
yeah The US UK and Canada have Sanctioned russia
I hate talking about this stuff at dinner
Soem people feel strongly about their ideas and don’t let others talk
and almost all of the EU are backing Ukraine, by cutting off things like bank and oil to Russia
Yeah just looked up and found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyGq_4rZybY&ab_channel=TheTelegraph
Boris Johnson announced extra defensive weapons are being sent to Ukraine as he said further sanctions are in reserve for what could be a "protracted struggle".
A number of Conservative and Labour MPs have urged Mr Johnson to toughen the penalties already announced, which affect five banks and three individual oligarchs.
"Let the House be in n...
ohh I didn't know that, that's good
Kyivs night
The UK seems to be really bloody confused atm, apparently there's £2 mil funnelled into the Tory party over the past 3 years from Oligarchs.
I don't think the sanctions will be enough
But at the same time Bojo sees the Russo-Ukrainian war as an opportunity to show leadership and make a break from partygate.
is that what it's being called?
We thought so too, but lately we've also been supported with tech and weaponry
no they probably wont' be
oh thank god
not sure if everywhere, but i think it's a fitting name
It's truly the most deciding battle at the moment
I think so too
Would u still stay if they take it.
I mean... some people don't have a choice
Isn’t there mandatory conscription in Ukraine rn? I think the girl I know said that there was
for able bodied men
What’s conscription
you have to fight
Ah
They do
where you are forced to serve in the armed forces reserves
Forcing people to join the army
Oh like a draft
yep
Ukraine has launched General Mobilisation
All men 18-60 must fight
All citzens 18+ not mandated to can join the fight at request (so women and retired men)
I think the girl I know said her cousin might have to fight 😬
ukraine is giving guns to anyone who will take them
20k+ given out to people in kyiv
Im trying not to concentrate on the thought too much but it'd be terrible
Ein are you 18+
no sadly
Oh
If i was, I'd spend my time out there
My main weapon for now is media and internet
well a noble idea
Reminder guys, the most effective thing you can do to help ukraine is to donate to Charities on the ground, links are in Pinned messages
What if you can’t donate.
Or come in as a volunteer, i heard that works too
The yellow in the flag represents wheat, I thought it’d be something more meaningful
welp you don't donate
Although yellow also means joy
only Ukrainian nationals in foreign countries can volunteer
Sadly then you can't, not your fault. But those who can, and want to help, should
Ok
A wheat field and a blue sky - two things that followed my nation since very beginning
Ye
A lot of people have huge financial worries looming over them right now - so donations will be limited sadly.
Yeah, that's absolutely understandable
these worries have been made even worse with the oil prices spiking - thx Putin
bitchass Putin
Wheat is plenty meaningful
Ukraine is the bread basket of Europe
A lot of history is built on wheat
Ukraine has not yet perished
ukraine makes a gigantic amount of the worlds flour, one thing people have overlooked
err the status is sketchy very up in the air
kyiv siege expected to begin shortly
Or Kyiv
My channel is dedicated to anthems, hymns and patriotic songs, here is the link to our discord server: https://discord.gg/Vw5SgNDuVV
a night of hell awaits
Already began
ah
the siege of kyiv will likely be bloody over night
A lot of misinformation is being spread as expected
apparently there are talks being arranged tomorrow between Zelensky and Putin
Sheesh it’s early in Ukraine rn
It’s probably gonna be more guérilla warfare than organized
🙏🙏🙏 is it intensifying right now since it's night over there?
Guess you can’t sleep? Guess I wouldn’t be able to either
perhaps a compromise will be reached and lives will be spared, and sanctions will be removed
It’s 3am
Oh god then how is siege going
don't know tbh
"Душу й тіло ми положим за нашу свободу"
we'll spare our bodies and soul for freedom
It's that simple
Yeah, Russias trying to smack hard in the night
Yeah
presumeably as the effectiveness of civilian guerillas is massively reduced after dark
it's hard to pin point who's in lead, we have to keep waiting
Hopefully they are still able to strategize
theres only so much you can do in pitch black without night vis
~3h till ukraine sunrise
based kazakhstan
never thought id say that but here we are
Have heard a British friend from Kyiv has made it to Lithuania with his Ukrainian boyfriend but they were unable to get back to the UK together due to UKBA not granting visas, instead they are now going to Ireland, who let them both in without issue, despite neither being Irish.

fucking uk
How about Scotland and Wales? Pretty sure they would accept right
they dont have a choice
England tho is basically the UK
this is westminster law
Yeah 🥲🥲
not a devolved matter
Here in Poland, all 5 Russian TV networks have been taken off air and Polish airspace has been closed to Russian planes. And a nation prepares to accept potentially millions of refugees.

I do fear this will see the start of a new iron curtain
Oh this is definitely a Cold War II
Massive troop walls, closed borders, and airspace closed, even when peacetime returns
And the Iron Curtain being the Nato Border
Russia is sending conscript soldiers to fight against Ukraine, their family members say. https://t.co/cJZgRZGNnG

That is definitely not going to go well
