āļø Quoting Jay in Kyiv (@JayinKyiv)
I added subtitles to this insane new Russian military recruitment advertisement.
Also after the guy mentioning about moving to Kiyv, the words appearing on screen translate to "choose a city of your dreams"
Interesting fact about Kyiv, it used to be the capital of Kyivan Rus, a nation which a lot of Eastern European nations claim to be the true descendent of.
This might play some role in why Russia wants it so bad. That and the fact they ruled over Ukraine from like, the 17th century to 1991.
More like 18th century but yeah it makes sense
Fascist governments are always all about their return to the "lost golden age" or whatever other fantasy age where everyone was fucking beautiful and perfect

I doubt a peace Treaty would work.
The conflict has been going on for literal centuries.
I doubt anything can work if there is Russia involved in it
Why does Wikipedia not mention how it has been going on since like, the 1600s? Like, the current conflict started in the 80s. But it was basically just a continuation of ethnic conflicts that started long ago.
I remember it being at least the 1600s.
Like, it isn't some new thing that randomly arose out of nowhere.
Which is how a lot of the Wikipedia articles seem to want to frame it.
They will not settle for peace that easily
I see this ending one of two ways: Armenia forcefully gets Nagorno Karabakh with no Azeri benefit, or Azerbaijan gets southern Armenia with no Armenian benefit, with the latter being more likely.
Azerbaijan wants a corridor and Armenia wants a dominantly Armenian region of Azerbaijan that is slowly being cleansed.
internal genocide
I hope those other ethnicities have the wits and will to fire upon their russian oppressors eventually, much like the armenian and azeri soldiers
Because they seemingly ran out of older supplies and weaponry plus politics iirc
A lot of Ukrainians are in Poland so that's surprising
I wonder if it has anything to do with their grain disputes
I know Ukraine is suing Poland and two others about that
Oh piss off Poland
Ukraine and Poland have agreed to find a common solution to the dispute regarding the export of Ukrainian grain.
Negotiations between the countries are to be held in the coming days, informs the Ministry of Agricultural Policy of Ukraine.

there is an election next month in Poland, no? PIS might be just trying to get more votes
to provide context on the whole poland ukraine having beef stuff.
- Poland didnt say they wouldnt send any weapons ever anymore, just wont send any new ones any time soon, anything that was promised before is still being delivered. This is mostly cause it seems poland has run out of surplus to send
- the supposed saying of "be careful helping a drowning man, he might drag you down" seems to have been a mistranslation of a polish saying that means something more akin to, be careful to not help others at too great a cost for yourself.
- the ministers of foreign affairs of both countries have already had a talk together and the result of that is a statement that they will work towards solving the issue with grain transports flooding the polish market with cheap grain pushing out polish farmers
on has to also indeed take into account polish elections are very soon and PiS is just trying to maintain the vote of the farmers
So not even China?
Ah okay that makes a lot more sense

Wonder how long it will take for this invasion to end.
There are three ways I could see the war end.
A: Russia somehow manages to take over Ukraine which is very unlikely tbh
B: Ukraine pushes Russia out completely and takes back all occupied territories.
C: Putin dies of either natural causes or is assassinated
A combination of B and C is also a way it could end

I genuinely do not think that Russia will ever succeed in this conflict, if the EU and US pull out their support, the Russians will still have to deal with a determined force. they would eventually push all the way into the territories they have claims on, however its the brokering of peace that will be the difficult challenge. they can easily put in a new government to oversee the new additions to their nation, however this will only result in what we saw in Afghanistan. Ukraine is pushing for victories in the early part of the war in order to secure better peace deals later on.

ooh?
Might Russia eventually lose hold of southwestern Kherson?
Real talk, when / how do you all see this war actually ending? Iām really starting to believe that both sides are far too entrenched for any major breakthroughs to occur (barring some sudden outside force intervening), and the waste of lives over the past year is quite saddening, and very reminiscent the western front of ww1.
Personally, I think the current frontlines are roughly how this conflict will end, but hopefully that can mean a quick ascension to NATO for Ukraine
this map isn't entirely accurate anymore and is focusing on one section of the front
most recently iirc the Ukrainians have crossed the Dnipro and are beginning to advance Southward
it is currently a war of attrition
the question is how long this attrition phase will last
I don't see it being the kind of indefinite stalemate most of ww1 was
even though right now that is exactly what it is
periods of attrition never last the entirety of a war
the issue is that if the war ends like this, Russia will simply use the opportunity to regroup and attack again at some point in the future
because there'd be nothing stopping them from doing that unless Ukraine joins NATO which they will not accept
I just don't see the situation changing at all because it doesn't seem like any side has an ace up their sleeves at the moment. Especially with the lack of air superiority from either side
As for crossing the Dnipro there hasn't been a solid enough crossing yet to really support large offenses. They've turned some parts into contested beachheads, but nothing substantial enough to gather forces for a proper assault
this stuff takes time
the thing I want to stress is that wars are slow
the liberation of large portions of the Kharkiv region was itself kinda a fluke honestly
lots of very good luck and incredibly incompetent decisions that the Russians made, which they have since at least somewhat learned from
and the lines that exist now are pretty well entrenched
As Putin's brutal invasion of Ukraine continues, we look at his plan for a bigger escalation against the West later in the 2020s.

Ukraine will get f16's next year, that might just be enough to flip the air superiority, currently pilots are in training, somewhere late spring next year the first fighters should be deployable to support a new summer offensive for Ukraine
Even with the F-16s, I worry that the Russians have had ample time and warning to setup anti-air systems in the southern regions where attacks are likely. Additionally, the largest number of combat F-16s Iāve seen is 24, which is sizable but I donāt know if it will be enough to completely break the stalemate, just enough for a minor breakthrough where it will be seen if it can be successfully held. The rest of the f-16s donated are supposed to go to air training purposes. Hopefully the planes will be enough to establish a presence across the Dnipro but Iām not exactly holding my breath at the moment

North Koreaās munitions are sucky https://vxtwitter.com/Tendar/status/1725821663273472476
When news broke out that North Korea was delivering a million artillery shells to Russia, my first thought was how good the quality would be of those shells. We have the first statements relating to this questionsā¦

nice
I always wondered, how does one define territory losses and gains during war? Like, you take a city, but how much land is considered gained?
As you also gain area outside of the city. Which implies a sort of circle which extends outward. But at some point it would intersect with the territorial circle of another settlement. Which leaves the question of where one ends and the other begins.
It always confused me.
Even more hard to define when it is about unsettled territory.
Those gray zones are holdings ambiguous amongst both sides but all boundaries should be considered nebulous
That causes stuff like this
The AFU sometimes reestablishes a presence over a small plot of land that isnāt elaborated upon
As reported, on November 19, Ukraine struck the location where a concert was held in honor of the ceremonial awarding of the 810th brigade of the Russian marines, in the Donetsk region. As claimed 25 Russians were killed. Itās also reported that Polina Menshih who performed for Russian soldiers was also killed during the event.
I was going to post the twitter link but it had NSFW pictures
This was not during the concert was it?
Because striking a concert like this, even a military one, doesnāt sit super well with me personally
they did strike during the concert
which is very messed up
"A Russian actress has been killed in a Ukrainian attack while performing to Russian troops in a Russian-controlled area of eastern Ukraine, according to her theatre."
25 russians killed, 100+ claimed to be wounded
Yeah it was
To be fair, they decided to make a concert in an active war zone for active russian soldiers in occupied Ukraines land.
I sound cold, but like, they are invading a sovereign country and dare to make a concert for invading soldiers on land that is not yours
;-;
got voted in with anti-immigration policy, while the pro-putin stance is a minor part of it?
idk how else they would have been voted in
i fear lithuania is going to elect some pro-russian populists (again), but most likely the soc dems will win which aren't that bad, just full of dinosaurs (not the cool dinos)
It was essentially a strike to pad some Ukrainian officer's chest. This concert was held to help boost what little morale the soldiers had, and in the end it killed a civilian singer. It would be easy for Russia to use this to their advantage, I have no idea what Russian news is currently broadcasting, but if they are not grieving for days for their beloved actress and singer, then they are doing something wrong.
it is a literal war zone, and these were combatants. You have to be stupid to perform a concert in occupied land
idk how the civilian singer thought it was a good idea to go there
like, shit, are we going to mourn this one singer who decided to go to a war zone to cheer up invaders, the same invaders who killed Ukrainian civilians?
fuck, Russia is committing genocide on Ukrainians and I'm supposed to think a death of this one singer who decided to cheer up these invaders is somehow messed up?
Give me a break
dude
wtf
death of civilians is always messed up. Death in general is always messed up
the fact that russians are trying to genocide Ukraine doesn't mean that all act against them is justified
it is understandable yes we can and should relate to desperate Ukrainians defending their homes but we should not justify war crimes and killings of civilians
The morality aside it also gives russia and pro-russians propaganda ammunition to undermine support for Ukraine
it's useless, immoral and counter-productive
im sorry, but the target wasn't the singer, it was the brigade that decided to have a little concert
you know what, let's not continue this topic
the target was the 100+ persons that had to attend a probably mandatory concert, it was a huge waste of human life for a simple OER
like I said, lets not continue this
i understand that its a war that ought to reserve no remorse of sympathy, but at the end of the day these are more than likely conscripts, people that were more than likely at home half a year ago, this aint their war and a himar strike on them is nothing but an afront to humanity.
look, I would elaborate more on my stance, but I don't think continuing this topic is good
ill stop it here now
while yes, this is true, we must be extremely hesitant to use this sort of justification for things
I personally believe that even while your intentions are good, in any major conflict like this it is an extremely slippery slope
just reading now that you guys agreed to stop the conversation, so I guess disregard this? lol
point I'd make is that the morality of wars is something that can be endlessly debated and there are some situations where I don't think there even is a good right or wrong answer because any way you put it acts are being committed that are wrong and tragic, war is kinda where morality goes to die
or rather, war is where many common standards of morality tend to break down
backreading further... yeah this was going nowhere productive and I'm sorry for continuing it before reading further
I feel like this article is not true, yes Geert Wilders is an awfull scumbag and he also wants to stop any military stuff going to ukraine. But i don't think he ever said things like "russia is not an enemy" and "vladimir putin is an ally" (at least not after the war broke out). He just wants to keep all of the military stuff going to ukraine in the netherlands. I don't think he has publicly said he is pro-russia in the war, that sounds more like another dutch politician
I have looked some stuff up, i think this article is taking stuff he said from 2017
Also the part where it says he is going to visit russia next year
He did said that in 2017, and visited in 2018
So he did say all of this, but in 2017 not recently

Holodomor Memorial Day is a terrible reminder that russia for centuries have been turning food into weapon.
90 years ago, the Stalin's regime has committed an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people. Between 1932 and 1933, millions of our people died of a man-made famine. The memory of those innocent victims lives on in our hearts.
Today...
PVV was voted in on their migration policy and the fact they are actually economically a left wing party, so they had the vote of the people worrying about the rising cost of living as well since the PVV essentially has a pure left agenda in that regard
they just differ on how they plan to fund the social securities
also as far as i know the only pro-russia party the NL has left is FvD and those are just straight up mask off facists (who somehow still got about 260k votes 𤮠)
Wilders used to be on Putin's side but flipped after the invasion started
to elaborate on this, the way they plan to fund their plans is budget cut on climate protection measures, change the rules for social security to exclude immigrants for longer (heard 10 years somewhere), Cut back on grants for develloping countries, cut back the money that is paid to the EU. Ideally he'd also do a Nexit but there is no one else that supports it so no chance at that ever happening
As for the Ukraine support, his reasoning is basically, we have given enough, we need to keep our own military well equipped, we can not give anymore and wont make empty promises we cant actually fulfill
to be fair about that last part I prefer that over the alternative of making big promises and then just not delivering, at least it's more honest
tbf both are bad and neither is better than the other, because in either case Ukraine isn't getting equipment

on a side note, I know I said I don't want to talk about this topic, but it's been 3 days and it's gnawing me from the inside
like, I wanted to apologize for the lack of empathy I've shown with my responses. That's completely out of place for me and I should have been better than that. I'm honestly disappointed in myself with my reaction.
so again I wanted to apologize for what I said
Itās alright, in conflicts like this people can get riled up for lack of a better term without even realizing it if that makes sense? I donāt mean to insult you with that, this is something that I know I have been guilty of before too
yeah it makes sense
i believe every individual regular soldier should be given more or less the same degree of sympathy, as the majority of the time theyre just people making due in a terrible situation
what can change a lot is the cause theyāre fighting for, imperialism isnāt justified and deserves all the hate its gotten and more

that I wish I hadnāt seen

hate the government not the russian people
also huh wow, I hope those protests are an actual thing, cuz people were getting arrested earlier for protesting against the war
yo

šŗš¦ šŗš¦ šŗš¦
Yeah, there are protests happening at the Embassy in the Netherlands to try to raise awareness, some of my friends in the Hague are doing it
yikes
Welp
Ok so⦠Anyone remember what happened with Austria at the beginning of WWII?
yes I remember
Anschluss
now more then ever media literacy is important. russia will try and spread misinformation
heard thereās protests at the russian embassy in dc too
I was there
yeah but those protests are outside of russia, the protests in russia are hard to do
Also doesnāt it seem like Russia is taking over territory that was previously in the ussr
So since the war with Ukraine is unjustified , it's difficult for Putin to convince the Russian peoples that it's a legitimate war - particularly when the economy is nose diving with sanctions being put in place
As more and more injured soldiers return from the frontlines
war weariness will only increase further
I'm pretty sure Russia wanting to return to a ussr state has been known about for a while
Correct me if I'm wrong
someoneās giving sputnik a taste of their own medicine lmao https://twitter.com/oalexanderdk/status/1496872978088292354?s=21
It's going to get suppressed pretty quick probably. That's just how reality of Russian civil movement is. Maybe they will let them do it for a bit, but doubt it will get anywhere.
oh yeah yeah, I mean, protests in Russia have always been hard to do... but now especially
People are talking about the planes over Taiwan, but apparently this is daily occurrence
@lofty heart Putin as openly stated his long term ambitions reforming greater Russia since he first become President in early 2000s.

No, it means "Satellite"
Ah ok
i thought rusia just wanted to control ukraine bc the post important ports for russia are located through the black sea.
"mir" is "peace"
I mean yeah I've seen some people do that on twitter
i use it to refer to russia and their sympathizers
It's part of it but it's also related to ussr restoration
@faint dew perfectly understandable, Russia is very capable in the disinformation and narrative spinning department - but even they're struggling to convince the Russian people now
Right. Which was the name of the Russian space station not satellite. Ok, was confused.
Wonder what Biden is going to say today
thoughts and prayers
when are the sanctions gonna be announced?
nothing coming from the kremlin isnt credible
today
That was mostly "solved" by taking over Crim. Right now it's more of sphere of influence and deterrent
12:30 biden speech i think
Yup
jesus i cant imagine the sanctions
Same
what sanctions do you think are gonna be put in place?
Possibly related: the territory in Ukraine was once part of the USSR i am pretty sure.
I mean, as any other government with decently sized media department
It's at 1230 ET, so 1030 mountain Arizona time and 930 pacific I think?
russia's economy highly depends on selling and exporting gas and oil
Yeah, it seems like a lot of police people are being sent to stop protests from forming
Also, to add to "Injured coming back home" - i dont think it's going to be that much of an impact. Gone days of 10s of thousands troops in the single battle
@buoyant sundial Ukraine was a soviet republic in the soviet union yes, and was part of greater Russia back the late 1700s IIRC

Itās always lovely when ānuclearā is trending on Twitter
bruh
hopefully they're learning about nuclear power and atomic physics!
i think nuclear is a the very last option russia will think off
Thereās a reason they call it āthe nuclear optionā
it's due to Russian troops pushing through Chernobyl and a possible damage to radioactive waste storage
Nukes will be end for everyone
finally the first world war not caused by germany
Poor taste
I think nuclear is unfortunately the first thing that people's minds jump to when it comes to war, so it makes sense why it's trending, especially since Russia is involved
Itās because Putin said something about āconsequences that have never been seen beforeā in a speech
there isnāt going to be a world war unless putin is stupid enoughto attack nato
and hence a radiation leak... (probably of low- or medium risk waste)
What the fuck this scares me
It's extremely unlikely Putin would attack NATO when he hasn't even finished conquering/subjugating Ukraine
if im correct he wants to reform the soviet union or some shit

People also clearly dont understand that there will be trully no winners in nuclear war, only ash

Oh no I think people understand that
now to report r/communism
I think people understand that very well.
in the hypothetical scenario where Russia's forces succeed and fully occupy Ukraine - they will be will be tied down for years supressing resistance is west Ukraine
Oh no are we looking at the return of True McCarthyism
like seriously what the fuck
Then this is just insanity. Surely any life is better than ash and void for everyone.
yep in the hypothetical scenario
put simply - "there's not much point in an imperialist expansionists mind of conquering nuclear wasteland"
yeah

honestly Putin is a douchebag
if there are no people left to conquer in the land you take - have you really conquered?
I highly doubt it's going to but full occupation. Russian military dont seem to stay in civil centres it get't to, instead just pushing forward. Probalby going to bounce back after some strategic goal are met
exactly
from what i can see the two most likely scenarios the war unfolds are the following:
and no you didn't conquer it cause then its just a fucking wasteland
Conquering is BS. I prefer true exploration. Meeting new civilizations. Setting up trade. Exchanging culture. Alas, we live in the 21st centuryā¦
yep
The worst time possible for exploration
now everyones just like war this war that
well that's the discovery era and early colonisation
yeah
āBorn too late to explore the world. Born too early to explore Space. Born just in time to explore Dank Memes.ā
before colonialism took a new meaning
Well, for that we all will have to lay down arms, erase borders in principle (cause we are, after all, humans), and set our eyes to the sky
Alas, i can dream...
ooh, watching the BBC broadcast and they showed large crowds still protesting in some russian city
most shit has already been explored
good
Excellent!
This is good, not everyone agrees with Putin
I mean⦠Arms are needed for self defense. Being on your guard (just in case) is a good idea.
i'm in the U.S.

this is why any budding imperialist needs a valid Cassus Belli

yh assassination attempts on Putin might make the guy even more paranoid and delusional - not a good idea
oh yeah
sure it would destabilise Russia if it succeeded and perhaps put a halt to Russia's warmongering
if it fails tho the risk of nuclear war and escalation is just too high imo
yeah
regardless of your attitudes when it comes to the greater good on cold blooded murder of cold blooded murderers
words that summarize Putin: stupid, megalomaniac, asshole .etc
gone mad with power
ā¦āterrifyingly powerful due to positionā
megalomaniac:a person who is obsessed with their own power.
oh my bad

he wants to stay in office until hes dead

or what ever russia calls it
Putin is not stupid by any means, you don't get to be President of Russia without knowing how to play the political intrigue game - but he's irrational for certain
OH OF COURSE
True
well yeah forgot about that
im at school
and Putin seemed to be becoming increasingly detached from reality as he consolidated his power as defacto despot
so cya in like 40 minutes when i can get back on
Absolute power corrupts absolutely
exactly
Protests are nice to see, but they are very conflicting for me
Sure, voicing opposition to how government is doing things you dont agree is good...
but
- Thous are just fraction of people. Large masses are ether oblivious, disinterested or supportive of that.
- Military and Police are still supporting the regime, so nothing will really change, since movment have no power
- Political opposition dont exist in Russia. Even if there is enough people with dedication, there is no one to guide them. Force with no guidance is disaster
- And thous who try often condemn them-self to their lives being ruined by prisons, isolation and often physical harm.
All and all, i can not see myself to go out and "voice my opinion" without odds stacked in populous favour. Otherwise it's just martyrdom, which i am not a fan of.
/went
Idea: āThe Peopleās governmentā
As for warmongering and all that, i really can't take that argument with straight face with US having pretty long list of "interventions" on their part as well, sorry.
š¤
Protests are one of the ways that people can make waves and get their voices heard. We'll see protests start in Russia and they'll spread all over the world.
@faint dew that's the safe decision m8, don't get embroiled in this yourself you don't want to be on the Russian police's list.
Has it worked like that at least once in history? If yes, i am not aware of the occasion
discretion is the best part of valour and all that
it has worked
but for every time it works, there are at least thrice which fail
I mean, honest question here - give me at least one example
Vietnam war.
you can read about classical liberalism and the age of enlightenment
The black lives matter movement
the establishment of constitutional monarchies over absolutist monarchies in the 19th century across Europe post Napoleonic wars
That's case that happened withing US, not when it happened outside and went in to different county elsewhere
There are a decent number of protests that failed but in failing sparked open revolt
e.g. at the start of the French and American revolutions
I think he only means protests related to war
Age of Revolutions? When i dont remember how many republics formed over like 20 years
Far as I'm concerned protests dont do much
Not necessary, althou i have my own questions to BLM. Alas, not here and not now
Look what happend when we protested against going to war in the middle east?
Did nothing
there's a huge difference between freedom of Speech protests in neo-liberal democracies (i.e the west) and protests in countries which suppress protests.
I think for some people, actively going out and doing something, like protesting, makes them feel like they are making a difference.
Who are we to take that from them?
Arab Spring
Sure in America social change can be achieved through marching on the streets and through legal process - but in Russia there's a police state and no freedom of prees
arab spring failed everywhere but Tunisia
Honestly, i dont even know if revolution will do any good right now. It will be another civil war, and bloody at that, since there is no civil consensus on how country should be. And, again, no leadership.
šØBREAKING NEWS | In an emergency broadcast, the Ukrainian President tells citizens: "We are issuing arms to all Ukrainians capable of defending our sovereignty" and "anyone with military experience who is able to join the defence of Ukraine must report to battle stations".

Unfortunately, it can be really hard to argue with the military, especially in a country that's so... Uh
Pro war
They might feel that they do, but unless certain conditions are met, their efforts will be in vain, and will harm them even.
Again, as long as Military supports the regime, there is no real way to topple it
Anyway, we are getting off track here
do note, protests do get noticed even if they fail
This
public consciousness comes back with a vengeance next decade
you can only suppress liberty for so long
Anyone noticed protest for Russian opposition in last years?
emancipation is a contagious idea
Starts with 200 and hopefully it'll grow from here
@weak blaze it is 100% a war
ok
It is war
so
Maybe not complete annihilation war, but war non the less
first it was a proxy war with the occupation of Crimea with Russian separatists and a long scale conflict with Russian seperatists propped up by Russia in Donbas
remember when we thought that one assassination in 2020 would start WWIII
yh that was never likely
we may live to see it yet
also not likely
no one gives enough of a damn about Ukraine to start a war on the scale of WW3 via military intervention
I disagree with this
world wars start bc of alliances. we got a semi-superpower and a superpower kicking eachother again
If the US gets involved militarily, NATO will join
NATO already confirmed that they will not engage
we'll wait and see with Biden's speech
Russia is buddy buddy with China and several arab countries
We'll see what Biden will say I suppose
Woops you already said this XD
No big players on the board want escalation of that show
all that has to happen is russia pulling a japan
my tone was intentionally blunt, the West has continuously appeased Putin's expansionism since 2008 with Georgia
we did the same with Hitler
people have only started seeing the uncanny resemblance of Chamberlain's policy towards Nazi Germany
military is recruiting more in Texas
we have military recruiters at school every single week
normally its 1 a month
hmm
so i suspect America will be increasing military funding
to increase the deterrent in Taiwan and in Eastern Europe
the world has, beyond any doubt, moved back into a second cold war.
Just woke up and saw they're going after Chernobyl??? Yikes
yep
moving thru it, not going sfter it
Thank god
If they got Chernobyl i think it would be over
cold war 2, electric boogaloo
there currently isn't evidence (from what i've seen) that there's any plots to use low/medium level radioactive waste as a unconventional weapon or anything, and i haven't seen any verified sources of radiation leaks
i mean, the sarcophagus alone would be a HUGE piece for them
they could threaten to release radioactive fallout on europe unless ukraine surrenders

there's a lot of misinfo and disinfo and people jumping to conclusions
Why would they do that when they have nukes...
bc nukes = assured mutual destruction
That's not really how that works. Not like they can blow the sarcophagus up and then ask the fallout to go towards the people they don't like
they drop a nuke, they will get nuked to kingdom come
and humanity will be extincted
Well Jesus let's not go there.
You're right Jim, but I don't think they would ACTUALLY do it, but I think they would use it basically as a threat
Also with that radiation could affect them and kill their own soldiers before it even could effect others
and everyone would call their bluff
I'm not saying they are going to use the nukes, but they have them. The fact of they have nukes
hopefully
They aren't gonna use the nukes
They are prob going to use cyber attack to attack critcal infrastructure
and such an unconventional use of radiation leaks into the atmosphere to covertly attack other nations, would offer some plausible deniability, but it would still be fairly obvious.
Ok, i will go, talk with some people, and stop discussing this whole show. Was watching it from 7 in the morning, and 8 in the evening
Why blow a place when you can shut down all their power and communications
Keep your heads clear and spirits high
bb
Ukraine is A Real country
Sure it has a flag and everything
Like take that cyber attack on that pipeline in the US last year and chaos it caused on the east coast
Thank you, you as well.
^ theres no point in blowing a place up that you want to occupy
That's the point
We also don't know why Russia wants Ukraine in the first place
Buffer zone between nato prob
^^^
That's true...
If the ukraine joined nato, they could legally put nato bases along the border between them and Russia
Im guessing russia was not happy with that idea
Crimea had Sevastopol an important black sea port
Donbas was the industrialised region of Ukraine
where the coal, steel mills etc. were
and Putin has ambitions on 'reconquering Ukraine and integrating it back into greater Russia'
irredentism in other words
ideally Putin wanted Ukraine to be another satellite or puppet government like Belarus back in 2012
but the Euromaidan movement put an end to Russian influence on the Ukrainian government
Ok so does āgreater Russiaā = āSoviet union 2ā?
Putin prefers the ideas of 19th century Tsarist Greater Russia
i feel like blowing up the sarcophagus would just make europe less inclined to surrender
but is content with pragmatically controlling puppet countries in the CTFO
i.e like that of Soviet union 2.0
UPDATE: Russian police have arrested at least 167 people across the country protesting against Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to an independent human rights monitor.

Bidens address starts in about 20 minutes
Touche
I have BBC News and Euronews on right now
Some people in my Uni says "Russia can't attack NATO cause NATO, and NATO can't attack Russia cause Europe needs oil" what do y'all think?
Considering the sanctions, I don't think nato just won't attack due to needing oil
True
nato doesn't want to attack cuz russia has nukes, and russia won't attack nato cuz some nato have nukes
This is really scary times, Europe is in pre nazi times once again šš
Which would in turn mean the end of the world
šØ

Post-WWI, pre-nazi times were pretty chill, this is a rerun of nazi times
I meant by right before....during the nazi invasion of nations
"Claim territory -> false flag -> invade" is exactly what Germany did to Poland in WWII
The nazis didn't pop into existence with the invasion of Poland, they'd already been in power for six years
Meanwhile as the domino effects are happening in the European Theatre (I CANT BELIEVE IM SAYING THIS AS A PRESENT SITUATION), there is going to be a Pacific Theatre in maybe a decade if this escalates badly
I'm worried for the people of Ukraine, and tbh I'm also worried for what a huge precedent this is setting for other oppressive countries to look at
And the fact that the Russians are too afraid to protest due to arrests allows more dominoes to fall šš
Russia has also made it very clear that if anyone attacks them they will cause a nuclear attack
https://apnews.com/article/russia-ukraine-europe-russia-moscow-kyiv-626a8c5ec22217bacb24ece60fac4fe1
There's no way all of this is gonna end with the bloodshed of Ukraine. I'm worried Ukraine is gonna just be the catalyst that kick-starts awful stuff all over the place
Agreed
This really feels like intimidation and not much else. Putin has no reason to trigger MAD
Yeah, there's talk that it's just an empty threat
he wouldnāt, not until thereās abrams tanks in red square
However unfortunately the likelihood can't be discounted
Everything is literally falling into place for a third world war ššš the dominoes must be stopped
at that point he would totally take us all down with him
The dominoes needed to be stopped a long time ago unfortunately
At this point the dominoes have already triggered and its near impossible to stop
Yup
But we can still stop the dominoes in Asia from Falling no?
Mm, I'd agree but sanctions only do so much against these kinds of global superpowers
Which we will find out in about 8 minutes
Haha, no worries dowo
8 minutes? the stream says 67 minutes for me
Wh
Did they push the time again
I guess so ?
Cause if we can Prevent a new Asian Theatre of War, maybe there is slight hope?
Fuck they did
Taiwan isn't the same situation as Ukraine
Yeah mine says 66 minutes now
ye
I'm with you, but China and Russia have already stated they're sympathetic to one another in times like these and technically China hasn't done anything yet
it's a highly defended island, and is guaranteed by the US
It could happen at any moment if China gets angry on whatever US decides on Russia..... people are calling the Ruso-Sino relationship a new Entante so
So if we start sanctioning them based on the pretense that they might at some point follow Russia by trying to go after Taiwan
Would not be great
Tbh if this lasts more than a month Russia's economy will tank so much they will have to white peace
I honestly have no clue what's happening, im just worried
in theory China could conquer Taiwan militarily put it would be a Pyrrhic victory
It already tanked 40%
All Ukraine has to do is survive for long enough for this to happen ^
Yes hope and pray š
Survive and starve (economically) out Russia
^^ also historically Russia doesn't care if their people die due to preventable economic collapse
Unless someone intervenes, Ukraine won't survive
And not without NATO support
I don't think this is true
People are gathering at the Brandenburg Gate in support for Ukraine
German Chancellor promises heavy sanctions, is what I can see from euronews
There's going to be an intervention at some point
Anyone surrounding Ukraine and Russia who's had the chance to do anything hasn't, and doesn't look too keen on initiating with Russia until it's too late
but Ukraine was not part of NATO, there is no obligation to intervene
War support throughout Europe is increasing
^^
Ahhhhhh
NATO can't support cause Russia is Threatening nuclear war
They are just providing supplies
NATO wasn't doing much for Ukraine even before the nuclear threats
I just want Biden to get his address over with because I'm pacing around anxiously ATM
the risks of escalating tensions further because of nations which fall outside of NATO being invaded are not worth it in European leader's eyes
I doubt he's gonna talk about anything other than sanctions
I dont know what he could possibly say to make things any better
Moldova would likely be next on Putin's list
Could be a reason the times been pushed back 3 times so far
Brandenburg Gate has now been lit with the colours of the Ukrainian flag
probably integrate moldova transnistria too
Does Putin basically want to create (or bring back the former countries) in a new USSR?
Basically yeah
yes
I think so
Essentially
at least as many nations as he can
Putin has the same ruthless expansionist ambitions as dictators during the 20th century
what nations he can't puppet he will start a separatist movement in
I'm just worried
Same.
Same
then use those separatists being harassed as a pretext to get involved in a 'defensive war'
things are relatively fine tbh
the economy is fucked
Worried for the world as a whole
This is basically the closest we are to midnight to WW3 basically 11:55
I don't like your definition of fine.
but yes a second cold war has begun
A tiny more nudge and it might spark something worse
It's been going on for a long time already
well if you like at 1950s/60s things were a lot worse in terms of global stability
It's a literal war rn
Yup š
Yeah. Nothing is fine.
yeah its bad
And i wish that we're not living in a major historical event
EVERY SINGLE YEAR
im genuinely just all over the place rn i want it all to stop
Unfortunately we've been living through a lot of historical events these last few years
Duck out a while and come back to it, gotta take it in doses today. But jaysus
way too much going on at once
I picked a bad day to start catching up on what's going on in the world
we have the pandemic now we may have more bs to deal with
we're not being conscripted just yet are we now? - and Putin will have to consolidate his gains in Ukraine
It's all exhausting
depends if your country has a draft
Seeing how this is escalating fast, I will be not surprised if we took a break from the news by doses and comeback with WW3
It's all kinds of fucked right now
i dont see ww3 coming just yet but holy-
50 different shades
do you agree that Putin is a megalomaniac just a question you don't have to answer it if you don't want to
Basically 11:55 in the midnight clock
Oh boy
There'll be time to form a proper defensive pact in Europe, nations to rearm to deter any further expansionist ambitions.
Ukraine was invaded because it was isolated
From what the news says is that he is so isolated that he's only taking bad advice
