Yea, pure saber rattling, they can get stuff into space easily, Russia took on the role of supplying the ISS for a while, but talking out several dozen satellites in LEO means considerable costs that they can put into supplying their armed forces
Anti satellite tech is just another form of MAD, like if you destroy an enemy sat, it'll spiral into making LEO unreachable even for you, and makes your space based infrastructure in place under severe threat
especially with something like Starlink where you need to destroy a lot of satellites

In the latest undated intercepted call, the Russian soldier in the Donetsk area describes how his unit was fleeing an encirclement, losing 10 people in just one hour. He states there is no cohesion in the operation of the Russian army.
Russian people on the streets asked about the next president, and whether they'd like to see a new one. The answer is - no. One man even suggested cancelling elections and having Putin rule forever.
I mean if you think about it, Since Putin came in power Russians did get way better life
like during USSR they didn't really had much, then USSR fell they had horrible prices and the economy was horrible
so if you compare how Russian life was in the past 60 years and now in the past 15 years I understand why everyone loves Putin
the war did open the eyes of a lot of people though especially the mobilization
It got worse in the 90s tbh
it did that's why I mentioned when USSR fell
putin became president in like 2000 I think
the question is how much of that can be attributed to putin ? and how much is just things naturally developing
soviet times had a lot of propaganda too, so Putin just continues that, and applying his KGB training
yeah, I really think at this point most of the Russia citizens are well, heavily brainwashed and I'm not surprised
I do gotta say though since the internet era it did open up the world for a lot more people and I'm sure if the internet didn't exist then Russia people won't even leave their country as they wouldn't have known how bad actually is there

wait what

I was considering it to possibly be incompetence
not the first time a port just randomly combusted, and this is certainly not the biggest boom from an accident

many of them suicide drones
I wonder why they're being called suicide drones
Aren't loitering munitions already a thing ?
Welll, the thing about loitering munitions is that they’re usually assigned a target after launch and spend some time just circling the target area
Right
Some drones can do that, but for example the Shahid drone has to be assigned a target immediately, it doesn’t spend any time just flying around
A loitering munition (also known as a suicide drone or kamikaze drone) is an aerial weapon system category in which the munition loiters (waits passively) around the target area for some time and attacks only once a target is located. Loitering munitions enable faster reaction times against concealed or hidden targets that emerge for short perio...

How's the southern front havend checked up on while
In a bit of a stalemate, but apparently Russian forces will soon withdraw from Kherson city, even took their piss tricolor off the main government building
Must be the signs of healthy morale if they are already preparing to leave the city they consider Russian owned
Also anyone got a sight on the current midterms polls know it's kinda weird to ask here but hoping that they keep both houses so republicans can't just veto out all military aid
Good
How's general consensus on the outcome rn
tbh I haven't been keeping up with it much
my state is very democrat
well I say that but we have a Republican governor, but he's an anti Trump Republican who is not running for re election
Based
like I think he recently signed a few laws protecting abortion rights and gender affirming care in the state
but the Republican candidate is pro Trump and everyone I know is voting against him lmao
I didn't have much time to do that much research into anyone except the Governor candidates mostly, sadly
So he's a normal conservative not what has become of the American definition of conservative
well the current governor, yes
like... actually decent person
the candidate for the current election though is full pro Trump it seems
and is... perhaps unsurprisingly, silent on a lot of big issues this year as he probably knows if he says is actual beliefs on them he will immediately lose in this state
Probs wants to get elected first so he can cash his paychecks before he goes ashole mode
Most moderate republican vs a clown who sold his soul to a cheeto
honestly I like the current governor a lot and would vote for him if he was running for re election
idk if this is the real reason but the reason he gave for not running for re election was that he didn't want to take time and resources away from dealing with stuff like covid and other big issues in the state
I'd need to do a lot more in depth research though
because typically you do not trust what a politician says about themself
The party props also didn't want him to go for re election if he issend a trumpist
I honestly think a big part of it now is that he kinda can't get much support from his own party now
yeah
some people that I know requested Republican ballots for the primary so they could vote for any moderate Republican candidates
and then just vote Democrat if/when a pro Trump Republican gets the nomination
Sometimes I wish that trump did form his 3rd party so that normal republicans had a voice
there aren't many left tbh
Maybe just silent
a lot are either going along with Trump or in some cases being kicked out of the party/losing elections
or just going silent because that's safer
it felt pretty nice to actually vote though, this is the first election that I'm old enough to
although to register to vote I had to register for the draft
Again if Trump split of they would have had a decent rep party to build on
or at least I did both at the same time because legally I have to register for the draft
afaik
however several mental things I have make me exempt
I'm voting for the first time this march for EU general elections cuz your alowed to from 16
oh how does that work for EU btw?
Oh in Belgium we say I have flat feet and can't serve my fatherland works every time
EU has a parliament thing, do citizens of the countries vote for their representatives?
let's see...
I'm autistic, have ADHD, and GAD
one of those probably exempts me
pretty sure at least one or two of those do
You vote in the people who approve the laws put forward by the counsel
how are the council members chosen?
appointed by leaders of the member countries? or voted for in other elections?
By the ruling party of the countries
ah
It's a whole big mess but I love it
honestly EU is a pretty interesting system
honestly in some ways it reminds me a little of how the US was organized when it was first formed, it was practically just a loose coalition of independent states

And it feels like you would support then the war itself
I think like donating the people in need there is way more important so that they can actually have the aid to survive
nearly all of the fundraising for the army goes towards getting non lethal supplies like medicine, winter clothing, etc
that probably does happen but in a vastly smaller scale than non lethal stuff
I should have checked the website itself than jump to conclusion
oh yeah the website does list things that will be bought with donation money
quite fancy posters wtf
wow yeah really fancy
I was just talking in general since that's how all the fundraisers have gone this year
even in Russia people are holding fundraisers for their orc horde with the same items
cuz y'know, world's 2nd strongest military needs monetary aid from their civilian population
quite depressing
I'm interested to see how Russia's forces gonna fare in the next few months when they're lacking a lot of winter clothing
main cause of death changes to frostbite lmao
I wonder, how does a military leaderboard changes
because 2nd strongest military is at this point a bit of a joke
can they become 3rd or go lower over time?
lol, I wonder when they will redo it
next year probably, hey do it every year
I can see Russia now being below China, but unsure if India would also be more powerful
since Russia is India's biggest supplier
oh I didn't know India is supporting Russia
eh, kinda? so far they've abstained in every UN vote against Russia, they don't send equipment either
I guess India is supporting Russia monetarily by buying their weapons, but then again those weapons are being taken out of Russia
India heavily relies on Russia for military equipment, nuclear reactor construction and I think general infrastructure assistance
Oh I didn't know that
what about China? I'm pretty sure they also abstained in every UN vote against Russia
China not so much, Russia is the one relying on them, now more than ever due to sanctions
dang, it really shows how desperate Russia is
Yes, the FAQ state that the funds are not used for the purchase of weapons or ammunition

Russian state TV’s still trying to put a positive spin on retreat. Kiselev: “We’ll get Kherson back. Withdrawal across the Dnipro is tactical, rational, even if deep inside we don’t want to accept it. We preserve our fighting ability & improve logistics to supply new lines.”

Sweden reclaims Balticum
I did not realise there were this many Georgians
Also a pretty darn decent amount of Belarusians
It's not confirmed yet but apparently a few Russian missiles hit a Polish village. People died
https://wiadomosci.radiozet.pl/Polska/rakiety-spadly-na-polske-sa-ofiary-smiertelne
Well then, I wonder how much of a shitshow thats gonna cause
Also quite a bit off course wouldn't you say?
russian missiles are known to be utterly shit
can't even have proper guidance now due to sanctions on processors
We will likely see Poland push for some sort of reaction to the two missiles, strong words from NATO, while larger NATO nations push for no escalation.
148
Just heard of the rockets in poland
yes it was mentioned above u lmao
I talked with my mom about it and she told me that it wasn't a polish village
also it wasn't inside the polish border but next to the polish border
also only ukraine people died
I'ma quickly go research a bit though
wow first page
huh
fuck
That does not seem good
yep
well fuck, time to google some flights from poland to amsterdam for my partner just to be safe
oh my
yeah
Don't panic
also a lot of unlikes
Also even if it's true (which it seems plausible to me) it also doesn't mean instant war either
it's confirmed enough for the polish government to hold an emergency national security council meeting
It would just make Poland even more mad at Russia
I don't think Poland would invoke article 5 over this (despite the memes) and even if they did I don't think 'accidents' vount as aggression
yeah I really don't expect that to happen
It is not confirmed then
and it just makes me anxious as fuck cause my partner is prime draft material
#BREAKING WARSAW, Poland (AP) — A senior U.S. intelligence official says Russian missiles crossed into NATO member Poland, killing two people.
651
482
but it would for sure make it more escalated for sure for Poland and Poland will remember
I think there is enough sources talk about it to make it confirmed
even Belgium news is talking about it
dutch news as well at this point
so it's for sure confirmed
I doubt it would get escalated to Article 5
but Poland will do something
that's for sure
unless its confirmed an accident i feel like Article 5 might be invoked
news are saying 2 people died
well we will see what will happen tomorrow
but it's gonna be for sure interesting
the village hit is about 7km from the border
quite the distance
that is either a very inaccurate missile or not quite an accident
yep
maybe it lost control
flew until ran out of fuel
tbh many things to question
but it is confirmed and the US and Poland militaries will probably find out by tomorrow what happened
The Russians were bombarding Lviv this morning so it seems plausible that it was an accident
indeed
true
Showing the superiority of Russian technology, not worth shit and can't hit shit
I can't imagine why thry would do this on purpuse
I know they are incompetent idiots but this is just nonsense
escalate NATO into aggression so they can have an excuse for full mobilization and sell the propaganda of NATO danger and how they want to wipe out russia
it only takes a few degrees of course deviation to go wildly off-target at the ranges they launch those things
the propaganda would of course conveniently leave out the initial rockets that trigger the escalation
I just got another reason to hurry up and change my gender marker
and the main issue is, if NATO their response to this is lack luster that gives russia the excuse to have more rockets "accidentally" fall across borders
since NATO has then proven to not respond to it as long as it's a plausible accident
Arguably it would be smarter to finally deliver the arms Ukraine has been asking for like modern fighter jets and tanks than to respond militarily
I... don't think they needed any real justification for months now
Their propaganda doesn't need facts anymore
It sounds very counterproductive
Also it's not like they aren't fully mobilizing because they lack justification
They aren't mobilizing because they CAN NOT
https://fxtwitter.com/afp/status/1592598941119709185?s=46&t=_8t43qqiKqlmBd_G9zy3XA I was already gonna post it so bam
slow lol
I just woke up D:
They don't have weapons, equipment or logistic capabilities for it
great thing to wake up to, huh?
No legit 😭
I fell asleep in class and woke up to a ping from a another server about this
At least you can follow the info during the day. I'll have to go to try and sleep soon knowing that this shit is currently going down
Okay let's say we found it it's legit and it was intentional, nothing happens unless Poland activated article 5 then the test really begins
dw, you will wake up, nukes won't fly around
this is unlikely to invoke Article 5
I think this is a very dangerous moment but I don't see it ending up with WWIII
Oh I know
It's just that I hate not knowing what the fuck is happening
I'd rather sometimes skip 7 hours and have more details
Even if they try and do that it doesn't mean ww3 either
I mean even if it's legit we don't even know if Russia intentionally was aiming for Poland.
Plus if that image says it's more likely to be air defense, then I think it wasn't intentional
god she's such an insufferable bitch lol https://twitter.com/michaeldweiss/status/1592594908535468034?s=20&t=JtHLG95oj91SR_11kiXBMQ

The current state of things is that a military response is unlikely, but first of all the type of missile have to be identified, it might be a Russian missile that missed its target or was deliberately sent to target some sort of infrastructure at the border, or possibly a Ukrainian AA missile

As much as an article 5 invocation could positively affect the war i dont want that level of insane escalation.
Having been defeated on the battlefield, russia is trying to cause a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
As winter approaches, enemy is attacking the energy infrastructure across the whole territory of Ukraine.
Their goal is to cause a new wave of millions of refugees.

Mhm, and there wouldn’t be enough public support
I think the best couse would be hold article 5 above russia to send much greater support like a large volunteer force or something.
Tbh that might be seen as active participation in the conflict if it‘s supported by governments
True this is a tricky situation i think its best to just see where it goes. Too much to worry about already.
Agreed
a much greater support like fighter jets and tanks, the stuff Ukraine has been asking since the start of the invasion
and also more AA system because millions of Ukrainians are gonna freeze this winter
the visegrad countries have those soviet made planes, Ukraine's specifically asking for those
lol
@paper cedaru silly, silly filly

So basically they had a discussion to decide to have a discussion?
uh hmm
Amazing work of Ukrainian air defense today. Can’t stop watching.
I get that this wont lead directly to WWIII but this shit is genuinely terrifying me
Anyone got any comforting words
Smth to cease the fear
you'll wake up tomorrow
There is close to no chance there will be any escalation following this
Polish military expert group arrived to the explosion site.
As there are remains of the rocket there, experts will be able to say with certainty what kind of rocket it was and whether or not it was Russian.
Think about it this way, america didn’t join the First World War even when our ships got sunk, it wasn’t until the Zimmerman telegram that we decided to join, war looks bad on tv especially when people start dying
We already have a country that is more than willing and able to fight this war for us
Ig im not worried about WWIII im worried about nuclear war
Most probably this will lead to further alienation of Russia and more support for Ukraine and maybe also more NATO troops in Poland
Im more ok dying fighting a war than i am getting nuked
Heard reports on the restoration of 🇺🇦 electricity supply. About 10 million Ukrainians were disconnected after the terrorist attack. Supply to 8 million consumers has already been restored. Power engineers and repairmen will work all night. Thanks to everyone!

here's some positivity, kind of
Ukrainians working hard always no matter who they are
Manifesting that a secret world order of lizard people does infact exist and they wont allow nuclear conflict
We already have a nation who’ll fight this war, we just need to send weapons to them and wait for them to do the job for us. also unless you are living in a city, the Russians won’t waste a nuclear bomb to wipe out a forested area, hell nukes will probably never come out, you get more precision, cause more actual damage and less collateral damage by hitting them with a smart bomb or cruise missile
And if nukes do come out, the war will be over before you know it and there will no longer be a need to worry about another war

So the current report is that it was a Ukraine missile attempting to intercept a Russian missile
If so no war with Russia atm
Not a good image on ukraine either
The only place ive seen it is from an Ethiopian news site so we still have to see

Its just odd that it would fire that way
It would be focused on aiming towards the front and where missiles come from
How the fuck did i missed the news about a russian style missile hitting a village in poland and killing 2???
Yeah, it was big news last night
Though it's 100% an accident
Experts on the ground are now investigating if its from ukraine or Russia
Russia had sent nearly 100 rockets on Ukrainian cities, and sadly around 20 hit their targets, resulting in 10 million people being without power
Im hearing a lot more of missed anti missile from ukraine
Possible yeah

Kremlin comments on Poland missile hit:
Peskov: We witnessed another hysterical anti-Russian reaction.
BBC: If there hadn’t been Russian strikes on Ukraine, there would have been no Poland incident. Isn't Russia to blame?
Peskov: No…Russia has nothing to do with that.

Rare Kremlin praise for the US over Washington's reaction to the Poland missile hit: "It’s worth noting the restrained & much more professional reaction of the American side and the American president."
seems it might be likely
It's not even close to being a proof of anything but given Russian general incompetence this seems kinda plausible
Oofers tbh
what im seeing... Nova Kakhovka. from all reports the russians are pulling back about 15-20KM from the river. if so that means that ukr forces can fix the bridge with the french bridges they got, cross the river in force and shut off the water going to crimea. this is BIG

Meanwhile in Russia: pundits and experts worry about the potential uprising, comparing Russia's current state to 1916, in the run-up to the revolution of 1917. They worry that the Russian people are getting more angry & social media is adding …
Side note but APCs is apparently a mistranslation, they mentioned all-terrain infantry vehicles
They are saying that it's not them
And the demand that their experts be permitted to study the missile
They also said at some point that they could provide proof or Russia's fault
interesting
seems like it's gonna be way more complicated then
I hope Ukraine isn't lying as that really can hit them back
At this point we may never know
Not only studying an exploded missile is... well complicated but also there has been such an avalanche of information, hypothesis and ideas that any eventual truth could very well drown in the sea of bullshit
well if the government can at least find out then that's good
for the public though we do have a lot of speculations and avalanche of information
so for us we might as well never find out until a government officially confirms it
so pretty much we need to wait and let US, Poland and Ukraine do their job

I kinda doubt this tbh. Isn’t JB like, 75 at most?
Then again, Russian news is already stating direct inaccuracies. So I wouldn’t be surprised if this is just “lmao silly america you have an old president”
Nah
Hmm.
Having old presidents in not uncommon, Ronald Reagan was 70 when he took office
Which is also the same age trump was iirc
Well regardless, at this point I think this just makes sense. It’d just be awkward/uncomfortable for somebody to have a warmongering dictator just show up and say “happy birthday”
Ok but I thought that DT and JB were around the same age
I think it’s an unspoken rule in society that if you are a villain, you don’t show up to the birthday parties of relatively decent people.

It's cute to see Russia try to go support one of their only true allies XD

Very based
Russia keeps digging the hole they're in deeper and deeper. At some point can they even get out?
I think they're already past that point, the closer a country is, the longer it will take for relations to recover, like for Ukraine it'll take generations before Ukrainians will trust Russians, us Baltics, maybe a few decades, and so on
but so far internationally the only countries that support russia vocally are in the single digits and they themselves are shitty places

What's the word on the possibility of The Russian Federation moving to general mobilisation in 2023? Is it baseless speculation, rhetoric from the Z bloggers, or a plausible last gambit from the Kremlin?
and to further that question, what would be the rationale (or irrationale), of the Kremlin for general mobilisation?
and what further support (humanitarian and logistical) for Ukraine would be required from Western countries in the event the Kremlin escalates further?
Last time I checked the general opinion was that they can NOT move to a general mobilisation
they simply don't have enough advanced equipment for everyone and human wave tactics stopped working around 1920s
also it would be logistically impossible to move many troops to the front then there currently are
and even now they have trouble with supply
I agree with your point, The Russian army has failed to equip a significant proportion of the currently mobilised force.
There were videos from the mobilization with conscripts using 1950's AK's and completely destroyed guns.
My concern is there maybe a future scenario if the war prolongs for a year, where the Kremlin moves to general mobilisation for purely political reasons to appease Russian ultranationalists, despite the current logistical problems facing the Russian Army.
That in turn could cause another exodus from Russia.
