#Kyiv under missile strikes. #russian terrorists deliberately hit civilian infrastructure, kill innocent people. Whether it is a building, or a children playground - they don't care.

Russia has a limited supply of cruise missiles and it chose to use them en masse today to target a # of symbolic non-military targets. This may have been more for domestic consumption after the Crimean Bridge explosion than to try to coerce Ukrainians (which won't work)
2280
613
Other targets appear to be business or infrastructure sites. Some Russian commentators were criticizing Russia's leadership for not embracing a total war approach including destroying Ukraine's economy. Possibly an asymmetric response to Ukraine's upper-hand on the battlefield.
454
Limited≠none. Russia still has cruise missiles, but its daily use of them dropped dramatically over the summer and early fall compared to the spring. That's part of the reason why they procured Geran-2 loitering munitions, which they are using on similar targets.

The Russians are being surprisingly honest and straightforward about this being revenge terror bombing for the Crimean Bridge strike.

Surely all the people who accused Ukraine of terrorism for blowing up a bridge will condemn Russia for their blatant attacks on civilians by indiscriminately shelling Kyiv while their state media pundits gloat about “revenge”

Some thoughts on this morning's strikes on Ukraine:

Ramzan Kadyrov praises Russia's airstrikes across Ukraine and said everything before was Russia "not even really getting started." He is "100% happy with the conduct" of the invasion, only a week after subjecting the army to withering criticism.
In today’s attack, Russia used high-precision Kh-101, Kh-555, Kalibr, Iskander, S-300 and Tornado missiles against Ukraine. They were launched from strategic bombers from the Caspian region and ships in the Black Sea. As of noon, 83 rockets were fired, 43 of which were shot down.

"If attempts to carry out terrorist attacks continue, Russia's response will be severe and at the level of the threats facing it. Nobody should be in any doubt."

let's see what bs russia's gonna say
The only reason Russia gets to talk is because we have to allow them to, I bet barely anyone wants to here their BS even China and India at this point
China had some policymakers have a meeting with European officials and they told them that Russia using nuclear weapons on Ukraine is unacceptable to them
So even China is getting ticked off
I wonder what China would do if Russia did use nukes (big doubt it will happen ofc but in theory)
I mean China is basically Russia life line they might just cut that off

Go from abstaining to voting against in UN things lmao
And maybe just instantly disassociation from Russia because they know they make big bucks in western countries over singular Russia
I mean especially if the US and others say they are gonna scansion countries support Russia, China's just gonna be like yeah nope we out
And tbh China might be better off on their own if they had to go to war then alongside Russia
literally italy is worth more than all of russia
Also India is already swaying away from Russia and I think Turkey (can't remember the spelling) has just fully given up
Maybe they would still have North Korea :)
worth more how? land, population, military, what?
Türkiye or some shit idk I fucking hate their dictator
Even then if Russia uses nukes countries like South Korea and Japan might want nukes so North Korea actually might not to be so happy
I know Russia is their biggest arms provider, and also a big helping hand in nuclear reactor construction
For the Chinese economy I guess
I heard north korea was going to do nuclear tests soon
they already did
they already did nuclear capable icbm tests
Did they
not nuclear explosions i think
They always do that XD
Ye they shot their funny icbms over Japan
It's almost not even shocking anymore when North Korea tests missiles
i think they do missiles not icbms its different i think
icbm and missiles are the same
that was too many i thinks i think
interContinental Ballistic Missile
Icbms are a type of Missle
And how you test those is how high up they can do and you can do some math to see how far it could go if you sent it in a more direct path
interesting
Nk would def lose all support from China if they also used nukes lmao
There's 4 types Short Range, Medium Range, ICBM, and another one I can't remember
Intermediate maybe
i hope so
China would most likely send in troops to stop that
Only reason China allows nk to exist is cuz they want a buffer with the US backed south korea
Since they rather replace the current leadership than have the Us do it
China doesn't actually care about North Korea
Hopefully they install a less batshit insane fatass
I still wonder if a United Korea doesn't happen I wonder if maybe a Union State could happen
whats the difference
oh
Like the Union State between Russia and Belarus
I don't understand why Elon Musk would think that his dumbass post about "quick resolution to ukraine war" would go over well like holy shit hes insane
I'd like to see a united Korea one day, but that probably won't happen for a very long time
Oh no don't bring up that moron and his dogshit takes lol
Dude literally bases his opinion on skimming an RT article
Because it's Elon
The thing is I get his concern
But appeasement won't end that concern
Fair but like how did this guy get to the top of an international corporation
It will just push it down the road
Yeah thats what i was thinking
He knows how to talk
Not like an expert speaker but he has a way of convincing people
Even if ukraine won the "vote" russia putin couldnt leave that would destroy him
That seems to work these days
Kinda like Jeff Basso with the people investing in Amazon, he basically told them you won't get a return in the short term but stick with me and you will make it back and more
Some people just can be very convincing
Yeah but in his case he was right and had a good, smart business plan
The thing that Elon and a lot on Twitter don't understand is geopolitics / international politics isn't simple at all
Like think of politics of a nation and times it by like a thousand
Yeah
Literally saying the wrong word can start conflict
elon musk sounds like the "mom who doesn't understand the videogame trying to make sure everyone has fun"
Like people got upset at the WHO for not saying Taiwan. Well ofc they aren't even a official member. And they do work with Taiwan just unofficially. Taiwan was one of the first to let the WHO know about covid
Did something important happened?
It's not as simple of just say it
no matter what the answer is always Yes
Like people go UN worthless they don't do anything, not as simple as that. Remember they need the agreement of mainly the Big 5 to do pretty much anything big
Another good example the no fly zone over Ukraine
- Russia didn't even have air superiority
- Shooting at missiles isn't easy
- If Russia send a jet into that airspace we would be forced to shoot it down if they didn't comply with orders
You might as well just ask for NATO to nuke Moscow at that point
money
dear god he said another thing not only
A. doubling down and defending his opinion on Ukraine
but also
B. claiming the same solution would work in Taiwan
why
It's unsurprising that a guy who's claim to fame is he bought a position at several company tables
And is less than creative himself
W8 did he just say that Taiwan should be Chinese just because China is larger?
Give this man a medal. He rediscovered Imperialism all by himself
He is only some 300 years behind

Probably, but I guarantee you that the US military is enjoying finally being able to field test weapons against our “near peer” threat. how likely is it for nuclear warfare to unfold at this point
Unlikely
Yeah quite unlikely
They would have done it already
My guess is the worst thing that can happen is they will launch a nuclear test somewhere in the middle of nowhere inside Russia to show the world that they are still working and operational
Russia would be obliterated by one nuke in ukraine
Exactly and they know it
i mean they could do the exact same thing to the rest of the world too

The Russians are creating a defense line in the Luhasnk Oblast reminiscent of the Second World War. The defensive line consists of two rows of "dragon's teeth", followed by a trench probably meant to stop vehicles, then firing positions for infantry and vehicles.

⚡️ General Staff: Russian troops receive orders to stop offensive in some front-line areas.
Russian forces in some areas, particularly in Donetsk Oblast, have begun to receive orders from their leadership to stop offensive operations, Ukraine's General Staff reported on Oct. 13.
321
The main reasons behind those orders are "the extremely low morale and psychological condition of the recruits, numerous facts of desertion, and refusing to obey combat orders," reads the report.

Russia really coping after the Crimea bridge incident
Since they first started arriving in Ukraine last spring, the Starlink satellite internet terminals made by Elon Musk's SpaceX have been a vital source of communication for Ukraine's military, allowing it to fight and stay connected even as cellular phone and internet networks have been destroyed in its war with Russia.

Russian military experts say that the faster they finish their invasion of Ukraine, the better their negotiating position with the U.S. will be. Their solution: carpet bombing Ukraine until it is "paralyzed." So much for their initial pretense of "liberating a brotherly nation."

But the liberals were getting big donations from every polluting sector of the economy
(Liberal as in economically liberal but socially conservative)
Does this mean that Starlink won't work anymore in Ukraine?
No, elon claim that they were paying for free for ukraine and now said that ukraine or allies would have to pay like normal but it been proven that they didn't give ukraine free access in the first place
So status quo
oh okay then that's still good
Would had been nice if they had free access, but oh well
that's true but Elon Musk is a businessman and tbh he is smart by trying to get money out of this war
I'm sure there will be someone paying for all of this and he will gain quite a sum of money
I can imagine a whole division of combat Russian priests. In captivity.
They do not tire of surprising us every day. What else will we see?
The problem is that he claim that he was allowing free access to ukraine
oh that changes stuff
he probably only did that to generate attention
but yeah that's quite a lie
He then said that he is revoking free access after kiyv told him to "fuck off" after elon suggested conceding land to russia
The "fuck off" is a direct quote and was not paraphrasing
wow I didn't know that
I heard something about Elon Musk supporting Russia and stuff but I was quite confused what was happening
and had a feeling it was fake news/missinformation or something

Not saying the EU would it would be the UN doing it via the WFP
They can get the basics from a lot of places
If we want any chance of Putin getting removed we need support from the moderates and the non political Russians, going too far with blocking resources could push them to wanting Putin to continue

civilians to Russian territory, not his army
Ohhh okay nevermind still dumb
lol
oh wait wtf?
all the civilians?
are they gonna force everyone to get out?
honestly I'd say the civvies have plenty of reasons to leave
I hope they won't use civilians as uh, bartering thing
yes but they probably can only leave to russia territory
Yep
I just had a quite a horrible thought what Russia might possibly do
Who hasn’t
What if Russia would take a large amount of Ukrainian civilians as hostage and demand if they don't retreat their army in the next X days then they will kill all of them
and record it live
Dunno why they'd record it
That uh, that's going to have the OPPOSITE effect I feel
or to use the hostages as bartering
Yes, make even more countries their enemy
I think even Musk might disagree with that to be honest.
A big part of the war is the information aspect: a lot of the pro-Russians support them only because they think Ukraine is lying and that Russia is actually the “good guys” for some reason
So if there was a Russian primary source that directly and publicly said they would kill unarmed POWs, then they would lose a lot of support. Plus, other countries might actually start to join the war at that point.
that's a really good point
I wonder if they will use chemical weapons, that kind of WMD I could see happen
I think that‘s highly unlikely
And like, I‘m not aware of any historical precedents for this either

The hell with it … even though Starlink is still losing money & other companies are getting billions of taxpayer $, we’ll just keep funding Ukraine govt for free
his mind changes quicker than a goldfish
Poor poor Musk, what a tragedy that he can’t profit from this!
That sums it up pretty well
maybe he's trying to make a big deal out of his "Charity", who knows
Probably
Anecdotal evidence aside, when the Pentagon and other countries purchased the Starlink terminals, they must have discussed subscription costs as well
And they probably either agreed to pay for it back then or that the company would do it free of charge
Because from what I‘ve heard all the recent events were news to the Pentagon as well
and then we have Ukrainians also paying for subscriptions
But overall, the bigger issue is still geofencing since that affects separately purchased devices too
Yeah
the details are hazy but it's enough to make you wonder where all that money is exactly going
I mean yeah but multiple people paying for the same thing sounds a bit like a scam
Oh no, the people who are paying the subscriptions also bought the terminals themselves I think
I haven’t been able to find details on the government-supplied devices just yet
What a hero! He sacrifices fuck all for opinion and free ad!
We can only hope to match such bravery and commitment to a cause!
🥰
i think it was FDR that said "if you neighbors house is on fire, you dont sell him a hose"
he should have done some sort of lend-lease from the start
You gotta appreciate how the man still manages to imply that this is a waste of money to him ✨
Lend-lease is only really possible for hardware from what I know, it doesn’t really work that well for subscriptions
And as I‘ve said earlier, a lot of hardware was directly bought by governments or individuals
His capacity to spew pure bullshit 24/7 is quite admirable
what im implying is that the war is not the correct time to ask for compensation or to pull the plug on the support, reimbursement ought to be done after the conflict is over
Absolutely

Meanwhile in Russia: An expert proposes flooding countries hostile to the US with weapons, so they can start blowing up American military bases all over the world. He believes this would force the US to negotiate with Russia—meaning it would force the US to stop helping Ukraine.
Meanwhile in Russia: Andrey Gurulyov, former deputy commander of Russia's southern military district, complains about problems with alcoholics being mobilized, discusses the Kherson offensive and claims that Ukrainians are advancing solely to help the Democrats in the midterms.

My question is why did it take Iran to help Russia for Israel to pick a side?
Might it's because they are used to taking territory illegally

good question tbh
Well think about it, how could they be against a country illegally talking territory when they did the same with Palestine
Russia: Ukraine doesn't exist it's just Russia
Israel: Palestine doesn't exists it's just Israel
Not 100% the same ofc but I have a feeling that's why
Like Israel is one of ours (US) allies you would think they would be onboard right away
While it will help Ukraine which is good, I bet this is just a power play against Iran
I remember when the whole nato no fly zone thing was discussed, I thought hey why not Israel they got a great military

i guess it might matter a little more for the people directly involved but even then it's about as much as any regular (serial) murder case would be cared about
I think most people just kinda accepted that they couldn't do much against russia.
But its not true that it wasnt a big deal. Definitely soured a bunch of relations
also; at the time the military had a task force ready that could head to crimea to retrieve the bodies should that be necessary. That never happened though.
i meant not a big deal within the country to the general populace, geopolitically it certainly was yeah
I can understand most of it and I agree that it's horrible
So Israel rejected a cal from Ukraine to use their air defense system which is one of the best if not the best in the world
Because they still wanna maintain some kind of tie with Moscow
When they said they were giving Ukraine something's after Iran gave Russia those drones. I had a feeling the main priority wasn't Ukraine but to power project against Iran
This seems to point in that direction
Israel could do a lot to help Ukraine
Hopefully they do send something funky like the iron some
⚡️Reuters: Russia will reassess work with UN chief if he inspects drones in Ukraine.
Deputy U.N. Ambassador Polyanskiy said if Secretary-General Guterres sends experts to inspect Iranian-made drones Russia "will have to reassess (its) collaboration" with the UN, Reuters reports

Russia: Don’t do it!
UN: or what?
Russia: uhh we might not work with you
UN: you’re not even working much with us right now
UN: OH NO what would we do without Russia…what did they do for us again?
UN: while you’re at it leave the Security Council : )
If the Russians leave a un sanctioned task force could be in order
Today on Russian TV:
Ukraine has a nuclear bomb primed in Mykolaiv which it will detonate and then blame on Russia so that the US has a justification for getting directly involved in the war and launching missiles on Russia
Got all of that? 🤪

Meanwhile in Russia: anger and disappointment fill the studio, as the viewers are being prepared for the loss of Kherson and other territories. Host Olga Skabeeva bitterly questions why Russia was so wrong in the beginning, believing that Zelensky would run & NATO wouldn't help.
The "special military operation" is going so smoothly that some Russian schoolchildren are now begging the regional authorities not to send their teachers to Ukraine
"If he goes, nobody will be able to prepare us for our social science and history exams"
Russian lawmakers Andrey Gurulyov and Konstantin Dolgov advocate freezing, starving the Ukrainian civilian population, forcing them into exile by making their survival otherwise impossible. State TV host Olga Skabeeva disingenuously claims that Russia simply has no other choice.
this is now so stupid that's just hilarious
Russian official did not understand that his microphone was already on and asked the hosts: “don’t rock the boat” and don't talk too much about Iran

I hope so fucking much this is true
It would be an incredible win for Ukraine
Also it would mean they spend a comfortable winter while Russians will suffer even more attrition in the region
take it with a grain of salt haven't been able to find much that backs up those claims
yeah for now I am carefully optimistic
the bigger embarrassment for Russia would've been if they had tried to stick it out and wound up having their military cut off and essentially hedged down into nothing but a band of conscripts
It is probably true, they evacuated Americans training out of Panama back in 87 in cattle cars and landing crafts
This was taken in one of the landing crafts, where the Americans training at fort Sherman for jungle school had to be evacuated before the country became hot
Will note that those 2 sat images are from 5th and 8th of October
Russia plans to deport about 60,000 Ukrainians from Kherson region.
It's deportation, creating panic, a chance to loot from abandoned homes.
In this intercepted call, the Russian (possibly L/DPR) soldier in the Kherson area is complaining about friendly artillery fire. He says there is no point digging in as attack drones with small bombs can create a mass grave quickly.

"Moscow has never attacked anyone in its history" what time frame are you using for that?
^ this is a rhetorical question for the writers of the article lol

Some old man wandered onto a Russian military base outside Ryazan today and inspected the soldier's yoga mats. When he shared his downward-dog tips and tricks, the officers were so grateful that they let him use the shooting range.
Putin asking draftees to tell him if they've had any problems with the military — barely audible over the sounds of gunfire — is perfect. Also, note the Francis Underwood knock on the table with which Putin ends the exchange.

In 2022 Oleksandr decided to walk from Odesa to Carpathian Mountains to raise money for cars for his comrades.
He hoped to raise ₴800,000 but raised ₴3 million instead.

⚡️Ukrainians have opened almost 10,000 businesses in Poland since Feb. 24.
Almost every tenth business in Poland is owned by Ukrainians, according to Business Insider Polska. Most of them are companies in industries where Poland is facing labor shortages.

I know of one business here in Lithuania , it's not far from my work and it's a smol takeout place for Ukrainian dishes, on google it's got the rare 5/5 rating for a "fast food restaurant"
Well it does make sense since they make up more than an 8th of the population now
oof lol
Last time I checked there was like 5 millions of them
I wonder how many of those businesses will come back and bring their riches to help rebuild the economy
Poland has a total population of 38 ish milion
Probably some will stay but I think most would want to return once this is all over
looking into it, the 5 mil is a total for all Europe, but for Poland it's around 1,5m
I'm like 90% sure the total for Europe was 11 million
oh it appears than a lot how come back to Ukraine already
well still 1.5 milliion together with pre-war estimates of around 2 millions make up some 10% of the population
so it's still a pretty big minority
Yeah so out of the 7 milion that left 5 came back, 1.5 stayed and 500 thousand went further into Europe
makes sense
ye like as of mid august the amount of people coming back to Ukraine is higher than those leaving
but unfortunately that might've changed in recent weeks with all the onslaught of missiles and drones
A look at the BIG PICTURE implications of Putin's Ukraine invasions for Ukraine, the Kremlin and the world.

Meanwhile on Russia's state-funded RT, director of broadcasting Anton Krasovsky suggests drowning or burning Ukrainian children, makes hideous comments about the rapes by Russian soldiers in Ukraine, says Ukraine should not exist and Ukrainians who resist Russia should be shot.
Let's go for another deep dive into the murky waters of Russian propaganda: state TV host alleges that if the Democrats lose the midterms, the new US elites will try to make a deal with Russia and may get rid of Zelensky by starting a nuclear war in Europe. The weatherman agrees.
