I'll try to remove compatdata, thanks

Still doesn't work after removing the compatdata folder on any other version of Proton.

Just for reference, I compared two Proton logs (8.0-5 and GE-9.22), and in the GE-9.22 one, I have this line, which is not present in the former:

Good day y'all! Guys is anyone of you playing Path Of Exile 2 on Linux ?

#

Well, I realized that I asked a stupid question

Now the real one:
I installed yesterday Linux mint, and I can't select Nvidia 4060 laptop gpu as card to run PoE 2

#

It shows only Intel card, how can I fix this ?

next tapir
#

try to offload your game to your nvidia via launch options

Well, I tried to understand what you said but I couldn't

Now after update isn't starting at all ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#

Did you install the nvidia drivers?

and what distro you would recommend me to install just to be able to browse the internet, sign some PDF files, read emails and play POE2?

craggy pendant

The fps is 144, I just cropped it sloppily, it's in hideout

#

if nothing is happening the fps is 120-144, if there is a lot of monsters and ice explosions from my build it drops to 50-60

craggy pendant
#

poe 1 and 2 put a lot of strain on cpu so it might bottleneck easily

rich sparrow
#

correct, same in windows, same in linux, same on fresh windows install (now im currently on windows)

#

other games are running with no issues at stable 60

craggy pendant
#

yeah and windows for some people was worse than linux because of background wasted cpu making the bottleneck even worse

#

they applied a patch yesterday to reduce cpu over-utilisation but not sure how effective it was

#

and it might be mostly to deal with crashing not overall performance

rich sparrow
#

p.s. on my steamdeck it runs more smoothly than on my laptop .... what a joke from devs

#

Im on a 3070 laptop and minion build + a lot happening (esp smoke effects it seems) i can drop down to single digit fps. But i think hideout fps is solid, can check later

#

Strongbox smoke, rare deaths and breaches just eats up my computer from the inside

rich sparrow

i've read a lot of posts on forums... apparently this game will crash even on a quantum computer ๐Ÿ˜„

craggy pendant

For me on Linux it only crashed two or three times in Ultimatum but that got fixed

strong kraken
rich sparrow
#

correct, but i dont understand what this game wants from me in order to not eat everything

strong kraken
#

Only things I can think of atm is making sure engine multithreading is on

#

Oh and maybe trying different rendering engines, but I doubt that'll change cpu utilization

rich sparrow
#

i tried everything

strong kraken
#

Maybe also try using gamemode to squeeze a bit more performance out of your cpu

#

If you really want this fixed and have time to waste, you can try different proton versions

analog phoenix
# indigo burrow my laptop is not choking, but i get lots of "lag" spikes on maps

regarding the "laptop is not choking". sadly its not that easy to say. games usually cant utilize all cpu cores evenly. a single game thread can bottleneck all other threads, especially if its the main thread managing all the other threads. one thread can only run on a single cpu core. this is a reason why games benefit alot from fast cpu cores.

also your cpu temps look very high. this will cause thermal throttling which lowers your cpu speed to avoid heat death. there is a high chance that it will reduce the lifetime of your cpu if its always running that hot. i would look into cleaning the internal coolers. also maybe look into a seperate laptop cooler like this. they are surprisingly effective:

I have installed the game on Mint Cinnamon (x11) and the game does not launch. Steam will say I am playing the game, but nothing ever opens until eventually it says I am not playing the game anymore.

I have an NVIDIA 3070 ti with driver version 545. I saw other users had to fix the poe2_production_Config.ini file but the file doesn't even exist for me at the file path where everyone says it is.

Any help would be much appreciated!

frail basalt
#

I had nothing on it haha

strong kraken

ah yeah then just setting them to LD_PRELOAD="" %command% should work

#

it gets a bit more complicated if you're already using stuff like mangohud

#

yeah

frail basalt
#

how do I know if Im using gamemode D:

#

Im kinda new to linux

strong kraken
#

if it's not in your launch options, you're not using it for that game

#

so you're fine

#

^yeah keep that in mind

#

for example, if you were using gamemode, it would be something like gamemoderun %command% now, and you'd have to do LD_PRELOAD="" gamemoderun %command% for it to work properly.

#

gamemoderun already prepends that library to LD_PRELOAD, so that first part is unnecessary and can be left as LD_PRELOAD="". the second part concerns mangohud, not gamemode, so it does not pertain to my example.

#

fwiw, if you want mangohud, I think it can also be done with just LD_PRELOAD="" mangohud gamemoderun %command%

keen terrace
#

was anyone able to get sidekick companion app for trading running on linux?

frail basalt
#

That would be awesome to have it working

strong kraken
#

this isn't the cause of your crash problems, but using gamemoderun and mangohud before LD_PRELOAD="" is pointless, as pretty much the only thing they do is change LD_PRELOAD. moreover, you shouldn't even be using mangohud with gamescope, and instead you need mangoapp (see gamescope --help).

#

I'd also recommend checking your system journal or other logs to determine what is crashing.

#

if it's gamescope, you can use the core dump to figure out where it's crashing (since it's open source).

compact marsh
#

At this point it would just be easier to change your proton runtime

yeah scaling xwayland windows on most wayland compositors is weird. can't wait for the wayland backend for proton to become standard

IMO there are only a few factors that affect game performance on Linux (when comparing distros)

#

this being the GPU drivers (typically with Mesa or Nvidia proprietary), the linux kernel release, and the proton version

#

As these all get updated fairly regularly, you're probably gonna want something on a rolling release (or close)

#

I might recommend Nobara, which is a fork of Fedora, in that case

vagrant bone
#

And how about arch linux ?

proven needle
#

I usually stick to the newest veraions of GEProton and just use that through steam, but regular steam versions are prolly fine

#

im on arch , its completly fine for me atleast was on lutris b4 now on steam proton , no issues at all // however im full amd system cpu/gpu wise , nvidia or intel might have a different experience im not aware of

marble viper
#

Know that the main difference between linux distros is what package manager they use, so you should be able to do all the same things on different distros and have about the same performance

vagrant bone
#

Thanks guys for answer, i'll try nobara first, i always use windows for my gaming setup i'll do it step by step !

fading topaz
#

Personally I use arch, and if you're up for the setup I recommend it. But yeah something else like Nobara may be easier to get into

shrewd pewter
#

I run PopOS (A derivative of Ubuntu) for my gaming rig.

It's the OS that the folks at System76 use/maintain for their hardware. It stays rather up to date with drivers for latest hardware because of those needs.

But I keep my gaming rig stable and very little customization. If I want to do something "off label", that's what my homelab Containers/VMs are for.

little pagoda
#

Pop OS is very good and very windows like. Cachyos is the one arch distro I've used (currently on it) and it's a little more work (I had to manually install my network driver because it's a very new motherboard/2.5gb nic) but other than that... Just Works out of the box.

#

That's ultimately why there's very little difference noticed in most distros is they pretty much ALL "just work" now. Literally easier than installing windows

strong kraken
# vagrant bone Im used to work with debian or ubuntu

if you're already familiar with linux then cachyos is also a good option. their packages are compiled with optimizations for modern microarchitectures, so you should be getting (marginally) better performance on average

#

gentoo is also an option if you want to take this to the extreme, since you can build every package tuned to your specific hardware

#

cachyos is based on arch, but iirc it has an interactive GUI installer and comes with some stuff set up. you should still be relatively comfortable with linux before you use it though. if you do use it, i recommend also learning how to install arch (in a VM, for example) just in case you need to debug some stuff down the line

rapid ridge
strong kraken
#

i believe it the idea for cachyos started out as "nobara but arch-based"

dark sentinel
#

Windows got defender what Linux got ?

narrow magnet
# dark sentinel Windows got defender what Linux got ?

It's obvious this is bait but I'll bite just a hair for those that read this channel and are uninformed. On linux user privlages are greatly reduced by comparison to windows. Users cannot execute administrative commands without sudo. On windows, a user can act as an administrator by default without escalation. The only exception for things that prompt UAC. Lastly, the programs themselves cannot auto escalate their own privileges', where as programs installed in a windows environment can act as admin without sudo style escalation.

#

You can install windows, login, and windows assumes you're the authoritive figure. So anything you do will be unrestricted outside of prompting a uac window which is still a simple click. So if you do something silly or accidental to compromise your system, nothing is stopping it or you from doing it.

#

On Linux, you install linux, login, and are not assumed as an authorative figure without sudo.

Thank you for contacting Support about this.

I would advise against using any programs that interact with the game client to provide an advantage over other players, as this may result in your account being permanently banned. I'm afraid, due to the dynamics of our policies, we're unable to guarantee if a tool is allowed or would remain allowed in the future. If you're unsure if a tool falls within these guidelines, we'd suggest refraining from using such a tool.

Anything that modifies game files may result in access to the game being restricted indefinitely.

Please also be aware that any macros you use need to be manually controlled and only perform one action per use. It's bannable if it performs more than one action, or if it's on a timer (as this qualifies as "botting").

Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Kind regards,
Rory`

  • Go to id:customize and toggle your answer for the "Ping me for both games marauderPinged" question to enabled, then disabled.

Either of these will remove the (formerly) default role and instead you can select either the poe1 Path of Exile 1 or poe2Path of Exile 2 roles you want. Thanks for the reply. I tried to change a few graphics options (including vsync) and nothing seemed to change. Reinstalled the game an I'm back to pegged at my frame cap. Oddly enough it also fixed an issue with the Texas server not showing up as available. However, now I'm getting periodically disconnected after starting a map, which eats the entire map and sends the node to "attempted." Pretty frustrating.

Last I looked, the window overlay that APT uses calls a protocol that's specific to X11. You can still use the tool, but you have to use the browser window option

# red copper Has anyone had success with trade helpers like Awakened PoE Trade or PoE Overlay...

There's some posts about that on the awakened-poe-trade Github, including some window rules which some people say work for them with an overlay. https://github.com/SnosMe/awakened-poe-trade/issues/1137

GitHub

Been trying to adapt APT to work on Wayland(Hyprland). Managed to get kind of working with the following rules: windowrule = float, ^(awakened-poe-trade) windowrule = noblur, ^(awakened-poe-trade) ...

#

I'm currently working on the same thing, trying to get APT or Sidekick working with XWayland. Looks like I may need to use a different XWayland implementation, though - I normally use xwayland-satellite which gives each top-level window its own Wayland window. I suspect I'll need them in the same top-level window for input to all work correctly

Running in labwc seems to work okay, looks like APT is getting a bit confused about mouse coordinates and thus auto-hide doesn't work. But opening for pricecheck etc without autohide works fine, at least

Hello, I'm running Path of Exile 3.26 on Linux Mint using Proton, and I encounter consistent micro-stuttering when entering a new zone (after a loading screen). The FPS remains high (e.g., 180+), but the game feels choppy โ€” movement and animations stutter noticeably. If I leave the zone and re-enter it, the stuttering completely disappears in about 50% of cases.

This happens even in towns or regular maps. Iโ€™ve tried various tweaks, shader cache options, and launch parameters, but nothing has resolved the issue.

Here are my system details:

OS: Linux Mint 22.1 x86_64
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070
Driver: NVIDIA 550.144.03 (proprietary)
Proton version: Proton Experimental
Renderer in game: Vulkan (also tested 12)

I've tested multiple launch options and configurations, but the stutters upon entering an instance still persist.

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue? Any ideas, suggestions, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

halcyon moat
#

Does the stutter happen when you first ever enter a zone in this league or does it repeat when you re launch your game and enter the zone in the previous instance for the first time in that new instance?

#

I can help you if you would like

twin owl
# halcyon moat Can you please observe your on screen graph to what causes the stutters?

It is not caused by CPU spikes, and I also have stable FPS.

Steps to reproduce the issue:

I enter any instance (e.g., a map). Two outcomes are possible: either everything works normally, or micro-stuttering begins.

I teleport to my hideout. Again, stuttering may or may not occur (same behavior as step 1).

I enter the same map again. The same thing can happen โ€” either normal performance or stuttering (same as step 1).

So basically any teleport (loading screen) may or not fix issue.

The extent of the bar could be how Wine-likes report total memory to the application. The last time someone posted a similar screenshot I tried to make some applications of my own report similar figures but couldn't provoke it.

#

A freshly booted PoE1 on my Win11 desktop sits at 5.3-5.4 GiB but with a properly long bar, so the usage isn't too far off normal numbers I reckon.

I wouldn't necessarily point at it as the memory being limited. If the game can't allocate enough RAM, it could just crash. Considering the bar is "long" though, that would imply that the memory is a performance bottleneck

The bar displays the current amount (which is likely correct) as a percentage of total system memory, which may not be.

I regret dropping the option, is there any way to force re-enable it without reinstalling (which I don't even know if it will fix it.)

hi fellow linux exiles ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm trying to get a "scroll-wheel-click" solution up and running under Wayland (hyprland).
My wrists are starting to hurt lol.

I'm wondering if anyone here had any luck with that?
Tried input-remapper (mapping SCROLL_WHEEL_DOWN to BTN_LEFT) however I can't really get it to work.

E.g, when I'm in a Stash Tab and hitting CTRL+DOWN, the game switches tabs instead of moving items - seems like it has priority over the remapper

thanks in advance ๐Ÿง

Try these and choose whichever you desire:
My recommended order to try is:

https://github.com/snyball/Hawck (Older, Low level and C++ based)
https://github.com/kmonad/kmonad (Newer, High leven and Haskell based)

I personally use keyd, which might be a better option for simple usecases. Not sure if it works for what you're trying to do though.

how is everyone running path of building on linux?

Off the top of my head:

  • there's a sometimes-maintained third party package in Arch AUR built around pobfrontend,
  • there's a Flatpak from some third party bloke built around pobfrontend, and
  • there's running the first party PoB via a Wine-like.

i'll try the flatpak version now

The first two have the drawback of being repackages/modifications of upstream source with a runtime that somewhat does the right thing.
The latter has the drawback of having to wrangle a Wine-like to get it running properly, but is more cohesive inside.

flatpak version fixed it all good

There's also an online version if all else fails

i use lutris to install it but for some reason I have to run it via wine manually and it can't connect to internet, otherwise works perfectly though

I'm blaming my PC for this, it's known to be very cursed

real quick, so im new to the linux gaming scene but im not afraid to experiment, but why does the in-game resolution for POE2 seems so much better on linux in comparison to windows, such as the waystones look so much clearer in the inventory.

patent fern

The UI ought to always be full resolution on any platform. Things like display scaling should only affect 3D content.

#

It'd be interesting to see comparative screenshots if it's an actual thing, heaven knows what happens in translation.

let me see if i can get comparison screenshots rq
