checked the log generated with PROTON_LOG, nothing meaningful there was
I'll try to remove compatdata, thanks
Still doesn't work after removing the compatdata folder on any other version of Proton.
Just for reference, I compared two Proton logs (8.0-5 and GE-9.22), and in the GE-9.22 one, I have this line, which is not present in the former:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0000000000000010 at address 00006FFFF75E6A22 (thread 01bc), starting debugger...
that's almost certainly the problem
Good day y'all! Guys is anyone of you playing Path Of Exile 2 on Linux ?
Well, I realized that I asked a stupid question
Now the real one:
I installed yesterday Linux mint, and I can't select Nvidia 4060 laptop gpu as card to run PoE 2
It shows only Intel card, how can I fix this ?
try to offload your game to your nvidia via launch options
check the protondb reports
Well, I tried to understand what you said but I couldn't
Now after update isn't starting at all ๐ฆ
Did you install the nvidia drivers?
i did, and it is selected as primary gpu
but after update - cgame isn't launching at all
and what distro you would recommend me to install just to be able to browse the internet, sign some PDF files, read emails and play POE2?
I use mint but im all amd and got no issues
excluding the poe2 part, mint would be a great option, but since you're also using this for gaming, you might also want to look into nobara
(nobara is a fedora fork optimized for gaming maintained by the progon-ge guy)
Sorry Iโm new to Linux. Was it made by Russians or someone else?
not sure why you would think that, but almost certainly not
Ok
Friend of mine at work told me that
At the office
i'm not sure what their nationality is, but iirc GE works for redhat, and so couldn't be russian, lest they be in violation of us sanctions
huh weird. maybe they know something i don't. i'd be interested to hear more
I guess he was messing with me
Yeah he said it was made by Russian Jewish Engineers.
lol
Were they perhaps freemasons as well?
Lol, so what if it was? Whats the alternatives? Bill gates or apple. Lol
there is always the enlightened TempleOS ๐ โจ
Guys, can someone share graphs that you have on linux ?
Context matters. What area are you in, is it only on entering, are there other players?
And it's the mtx hideout isn't it
RTX 4060 Laptop GPU
no, dreadnought
now in maps, no monsters around (and i disconnected second monitor from the laptop)
The fps is 144, I just cropped it sloppily, it's in hideout
if nothing is happening the fps is 120-144, if there is a lot of monsters and ice explosions from my build it drops to 50-60
in both screenshots you have a lot of CPU time
poe 1 and 2 put a lot of strain on cpu so it might bottleneck easily
correct, same in windows, same in linux, same on fresh windows install (now im currently on windows)
other games are running with no issues at stable 60
yeah and windows for some people was worse than linux because of background wasted cpu making the bottleneck even worse
they applied a patch yesterday to reduce cpu over-utilisation but not sure how effective it was
and it might be mostly to deal with crashing not overall performance
p.s. on my steamdeck it runs more smoothly than on my laptop .... what a joke from devs
LOL
and again, i am not looking for beautiful game... i just need it to rung stable between 45 and 60 fps ..
what are your stats ?
what number is not a lot of cpu time ?
im used to seeing 5-7ms there, so relatively speaking 22ms seemed like a lot
jesus... what is your setup?
ryzen 7 5800 8core and rtx 3070
on a pc so less heating up woes compared to a laptop
is that a lot better than this setup ?
Im on a 3070 laptop and minion build + a lot happening (esp smoke effects it seems) i can drop down to single digit fps. But i think hideout fps is solid, can check later
Strongbox smoke, rare deaths and breaches just eats up my computer from the inside
i've read a lot of posts on forums... apparently this game will crash even on a quantum computer ๐
For me on Linux it only crashed two or three times in Ultimatum but that got fixed
graphics proabably don't matter much here since the bottlenecking is on the CPU
correct, but i dont understand what this game wants from me in order to not eat everything
Only things I can think of atm is making sure engine multithreading is on
Oh and maybe trying different rendering engines, but I doubt that'll change cpu utilization
i tried everything
Maybe also try using gamemode to squeeze a bit more performance out of your cpu
If you really want this fixed and have time to waste, you can try different proton versions
everything was tried ๐
i will check on that linux article later
after 12th of jan
my laptop is not choking, but i get lots of "lag" spikes on maps
especially it happens after a couple of hours playing
feeling like a memory leak smh
all of this started happening today morning
+-8 hours ago
before that game was fairly smooth
have you tried changing the global chat channel?
how can i do that?
with /global [number]
sorry for dumb question but it affects game this much?
for some reason some people have issues with global chat, the cpu spikes when it loads every message in global chat
(even if it's hidden)
so you can try changing the global channel and if it's not that keep troubleshooting, like doing the LD_PRELOAD="" thing and so on
okay i'll try
after the newest patches then?
those are probably shader cache updates
makes sense
regarding the "laptop is not choking". sadly its not that easy to say. games usually cant utilize all cpu cores evenly. a single game thread can bottleneck all other threads, especially if its the main thread managing all the other threads. one thread can only run on a single cpu core. this is a reason why games benefit alot from fast cpu cores.
also your cpu temps look very high. this will cause thermal throttling which lowers your cpu speed to avoid heat death. there is a high chance that it will reduce the lifetime of your cpu if its always running that hot. i would look into cleaning the internal coolers. also maybe look into a seperate laptop cooler like this. they are surprisingly effective:
thanks for advice, i do have some problems with with cpu temp
damn I had this exact model several years ago, blast from the past
(cooling fan)
definitely I'd recommend one as well, back when I did laptop gaming it helped a lot
anyone get network spikes and your audio cuts out?
Yes network spikes, but no audio cutting out. Is it correlated with a CPU spike as well?
no itโs not just network seems to be peak times of day
BTOP and Zellij; based. I prefer to run Zellij in compact mode, though.
I have installed the game on Mint Cinnamon (x11) and the game does not launch. Steam will say I am playing the game, but nothing ever opens until eventually it says I am not playing the game anymore.
I have an NVIDIA 3070 ti with driver version 545. I saw other users had to fix the poe2_production_Config.ini file but the file doesn't even exist for me at the file path where everyone says it is.
Any help would be much appreciated!
The exact path may not be the same. If you find your Steam Wine prefixes, you can follow the rest of the directory from 2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/poe2_production_Config.ini
For example, mine are in ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata. Maybe look up where wine prefixes are stored by default for Steam installations on Mint?
2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents exists under ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/ , but My Games does not. Inside .local/share I don't see a steam folder either.
I tried doing a find / -iname 'poe2_production_Config.ini' and no results popped up. I am thinking it only generates this file when the game starts up, but the game does not start up for me at all. Any ideas for that?
@hoary wagon have you set the game to launch specifically with proton?
Yes, proton experimental, and proton 9.0.0 both have the same result.
does hotfix work?
Trying now
could also be worth checking if there is a client.txt in the logs folder in the games installation files
Hotfix worked, thank you!
awesome, glad to help ๐
btw if you use -iname (case insensitive) you can use all lowercase for the filename
Compact mode? Is it a new feature?
Hi all! Does anyone knows why everytime I open steam, and click Play on POE2 it starts downloading an "update" which I think is shaders thing, and when it start it always says "Processing Vulkan shaders", it takes about 10min to finish, but it happens everytime
No, it has been around since I discovered it a couple of years ago. You use the the flag -l for launch and then pass compact right next to it. I launch it that way with my default layout.
alias z = zellij -l compact --layout /home/chris/.zellij/layout.kdl
Have anyone got a price check overlay to work with hyprland?
holy hell that's good
i tried exiled exchange since it has linux port
but on hyprland behaves very poorly
widget on waybar exists but the "window" itself endlessly crashes
It doesn't create a window on Windows, I don't think it makes one on Linux either.
Just the widget.
At least it doesn't seem to on plasma
Theres an open ticket for it not working on gamescope as well.
on hyprland it "seems" like window endlessly opens and closes
at least tries to
for now i can only manually price check
yeah its trying to force poe window to windowed for some reason, got the overlay to run once now but it covered the game completely so it was useless
sad, dont want to switch to a DE either just for that
Exiled Exchange 2 doesn't cooperate with tiling window managers. I'm also using Hyprland and running it with --no-overlay as a workaround (opens in your browser, copy-paste items into it)
It doesn't seem to work at all on steam decks game mode.
Try the --no-overlay option. The only manual step will be CTRL+C the item and paste into the browser interface, but better than manually price checking.
good tip, thanks i will try it. a lot better than manually checking!
annoyingly, gamescope on wayland doesn't forward the clipboard to the host, so exiled exchange 2 is completely broken for me lol
thanks, it works
another thing to check is if you can add exceptions to your tiling wm so it isn't trying to tile the poe2/ee2 window
Anybody managed to use vulkan on nvidia gpus within wayland? I can either use x11 with vulkan, or use dx12 within wayland. But i neither like x11 or dx12. ๐
Only works for me if i manually set resolution manually in the config file to 1 pixel less on W and H. (Havent tried gamescope though)
Omg, I thought you where kinda trolling me, but it actually works. wtf. Thanks man (Y)
Haha, i get that! Note that it resets if you change and save graphic settings in game, a bit annoying
What da hell
That sound like the most linux thing imaginable
Gonna try that
But first make sure that 0.1.1 launches on my laptop and nothing breaks
Looking for advice, I'm currently running Debian with a 3070Ti, wondering if its worthwhile changing over to Arch for the latest drivers?
My main problem is that I can't even install nvidia-smi cause the dependencies that Bookworm supports is too old to actually install lmao
And if I'm gonna go unstable, might as well go Arch, well that's my logic anyways
fedora/nobara is also a good option if you don't want to go rolling
Tried the neversink filter, but it told me I got some doctype error on line 7
Dunno if it is linux related, but that was waht came to mind
I haven't had any issues using it on linux. maybe check their discord server for support
there should be a link on their website
Thx I will
Maybe this?
#317300160441090049 message
Ah it was meant to be a forward smh
Thx for cluing me in, I indeed had an older filter
I had to set custom window rules in Awesome wm so that EE2 renders properly, you also maybe probably need to tell electron to use wayland not x11 (with ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM_HINT=auto env var or with ~/.config/electron-flags.conf if on arch based )
Also don't be a dummy like me and forget that x11 does not do transparency and needs a running compositor
pepeRetard
I assume that hyprland and alike will too need custom window rules for "Exiled Exchange 2" window to make it work (setting it to float at least)
Hmm, that's a great idea. I tried window rules for Awakened PoE Trade back when I first switched to Hyprland, but I even think about the electron flags. I probably jacked up the window rules before too
Thanks for the idea!
hey i wanna play poe2 since i have massive network spikes anything i have to do ore is steam enough ?
Is anyone else noticing a weird kind of choppiness with the vulkan rendering option? I notice I donโt experience it when I pick dx12. Itโs weird because the frame rates are about the same but it almost feels like the vulkan renderer is bottoming out more than the dx12 one.
for me the framerates on dx12 are substantially better than on vk
vulkan has some sort of weird micro stutter
as far as actual fps though... vulkan and dx12 are basically identical. they definitely look different though... and honestly i prefer the look of vulkan?
on my hardware at least... which is all amd
Vulkan is superior for me. X11, nVidia, AMD gpu
huh
Anyone here got trade macros working with Linux steam version?
anyone else expriencing what seems to be a memory leak since the last patch? Whenever a lot seems to go on, like breach, the frame rate drops to 30 fps and sticks to that untill it restart the game, nominal fps is 120 for me with DX12.
might be the steam overlay issue
I disabled that ... ๐ฆ
you need to do the LD_PRELOAD thing, not just disable
it still loads the shared library even if you disable it
Okay so whatโs the trick for exiled exchange to work on multi monitor Wayland ?
This might be it indeed, thanks, that issue is what I seem to experience too actually.
thank you
np
just remember to check in every once in a while to see if it's been fixed or not
since it breaks some functionality. although if you already have the overlay disabled i don't think there'll be any difference
@strong krakensorry for the ping, how did you get exiled to work on wayland? im on bazzite gnome and exiled pops a window constantly so I cant focus on game window
try --no-overlay
care to explain more?
try passing that argument to the program on the command line
kinda works but meh, I need to live with this, thanks anyway
what launch options for steam to skip all the intro crap is there anything besides just --intro-skip ?
i think it's --nologo
here's what i have for steam launch options:
LD_PRELOAD="" %command% --noasync --nologo --waitforpreload
what does --noasync do?
Completely disable the asynchronous loading changes introduced in version 2.3.0
https://poewiki.net/wiki/Launch_options
The Old fandom wiki is no longer maintained please use the new community wiki instead, thank you.
Launch options are command line arguments (parameters) for Client.exe that change the game. Most of these are not intended for use by players.
yeah. try as they might to place themselves at the top of google search, Fextra and Fandom can stuff it
not sure what it's supposed to fix, i have an ultrawide and it works fine to my eyes
It doesnโt extend the play area to the edge of the screen as it currently stands - both POE1 and 2 have big black bars on the edges.
thats odd. mine were essentially plug and play.
oh thats for SUPER ultrawide
yeah idk
I highly recommend checking out Indie Wiki Buddy (https://getindie.wiki/) for this exact thing. Auto-redirects (or notifies) when you go to the "wrong" wiki like Fandom or Fextra. Supports LOADS of different community/official wikis.
yeah i found out about that recently and it's great
there's also an option to redirect fandom wikis to a clean frontend so you don't have to deal with their atrocious UI
guys
does pob2 work on linux
the source code itself in a tar from pob2 can be turned into a .deb right? idk ive never done it im looking into hwo to do that
do i just do the .exe in wine?
I'm assuming eventually someone will make a pkgbuild script to build the project for linux in the arch aur. Might try building it myself in the meantime. It's mostly lua though so yeah wine should be just fine.
If you want a shortcut or something you could probably just throw a bash script on your desktop that runs it. Or you could just put the portable exe there itself assuming wine is associated with exe files.
Pretty sure there's someone maintaining Pob(1) on Flathub, maybe the same person will do it for Pob2
That's for 1
afaik this uses pobfrontend, which does not work for pob2 due to API changes
someone will need to update it. hopefully not me lmao
No idea ๐
I have an idea because i've tried digging into it
the first issue you run into is the fact that the SimpleGraphics API has changed, specifically for the DrawImage function (though presumably also for other things)
Tbh regarding PoB, I'd suggest just rolling it through Wine. Works well enough for me with bottles and actually feels smoother and less buggy
Requires no setup, just create an empty bottle
Did the same thing just now and was surprised how well it works.
yep, I needed to run an ancient devbuild so I just yolo'd and... it works. I remember in 2022 when it 200% crashed on launch or just showed a black screen
I used Bottles to install PoB2
How can I debug an issue that happens every 30-40min of gameplay where the game start to stutter really bad, I have to exit the game and open it again to keep playing, Idk what to do in that case
^it's a known issue with steam ever since they added recording
Anybody else got a steam update that does not allow you to skip shader preprocessing anymore?
Is there a workaround for that?
the workaround is literally in the message I forwarded
honestly I recommend just turning it off at this point lol
I looked for this option but can't find it ...
Settings โ Downloads (sidebar) โ Shader Pre-Caching (at the bottom) โ Enable Shader Pre-caching โ Off
thanks
np
yeah it's a bit weird. i think it downloads part of the shaders or something idk
So basically adding LD_PRELOAD="" %COMMAND% would fix the problem, right? Or i'm missing something
well, what are your current launch options?
I had nothing on it haha
ah yeah then just setting them to LD_PRELOAD="" %command% should work
it gets a bit more complicated if you're already using stuff like mangohud
yeah
if it's not in your launch options, you're not using it for that game
so you're fine
^yeah keep that in mind
for example, if you were using gamemode, it would be something like gamemoderun %command% now, and you'd have to do LD_PRELOAD="" gamemoderun %command% for it to work properly.
gamemoderun already prepends that library to LD_PRELOAD, so that first part is unnecessary and can be left as LD_PRELOAD="". the second part concerns mangohud, not gamemode, so it does not pertain to my example.
fwiw, if you want mangohud, I think it can also be done with just LD_PRELOAD="" mangohud gamemoderun %command%
was anyone able to get sidekick companion app for trading running on linux?
That would be awesome to have it working
this isn't the cause of your crash problems, but using gamemoderun and mangohud before LD_PRELOAD="" is pointless, as pretty much the only thing they do is change LD_PRELOAD. moreover, you shouldn't even be using mangohud with gamescope, and instead you need mangoapp (see gamescope --help).
I'd also recommend checking your system journal or other logs to determine what is crashing.
if it's gamescope, you can use the core dump to figure out where it's crashing (since it's open source).
At this point it would just be easier to change your proton runtime
I dont really know now, I havent been playing for a while. But most of the crashing issues I fixed with poe were about changing runtime
If you have tried it already I guess it wont help
yeah scaling xwayland windows on most wayland compositors is weird. can't wait for the wayland backend for proton to become standard
gamescope is kinda janky. i've tried submitting some PRs to make it better on wayland, but they haven't been accepted yet, and even then it's a marginal improvement
stuff like forwarding the clipboard
yeah i've been programming for a while
thanks
Login Server is dead?
Was anyone here able to use sidekick? or make it work
Nope, but Exile Exchange overlay works for me
Awesome, didn't know about that tool, thanks @alpine wave !
Hey thanks for the launch option fix for the 30 min stutter.
I used the app image. Also using Wayland on kde
were there logs when it crashed?
do I come here to complain about steamdeck issues? :3
I really like the trials of sekhema but there's major things missing on the deck
like the freaking quick move option that instead drops items on the floor instead of in the stash ><
anyone know a fix?
As far as I can tell from the forums it affects any stash thatโs not the main one in the act. Itโs not specific to steam deck or linux. Still an issue on several platforms as of today on 0.1.1B
Anyone know who the DEV is for Exile Exchange 2?
you can take a look at the github page for the tool
Do you guys know how to view your boons and affliction in the trial on steamdeck BTW? Or is that an issue as well?
Anyone else can't play anymore after latest nvidia update on Debian?
Just black screen -> crash on open
Alrighty, just changed distros to Arch, lets see if POE2 still has issues
okay, better game actually gets into the laoding screen, gears struggle to turn and then crashes.
New Nvidia update doesn't play well with poe2 for some reason
Just booted up Metaphor to make sure its not the graphics card thats busted and its working fine, so this looks like something with POE2, can anyone else confirm?
Looks like the issue was with NVIDIA not playing nice with Vulcan on Wayland. Changing the renderer to DirectX12 in the game's config file seems to have fixed it.
yeah generally speaking most people switch to dx12 as it's more stable... some people can't use vulkan at all. I actually played with it on for most of the campaign, but would get weird microstutters/frame time issues
Vulkan is best for me but then again I'm on x11
I had issues with x11/x12 on linux on an older gpu
My game just patched when I did a quick restart, and now every time i login with my char, it spins for a sec then crashes before I enter the game.
was working fine for 600+hrs till now
Got the new DLSS working in POE2.
Follow this: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1id9ih1/enable_nvidia_dlss_310100_dlls_with_preset_j_on/
Youll need to snag the files yourself from Cyberpunk or somewhere else.
Location of DLSS: /SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Path of Exile 2/Streamline/
Hi, sorry to reply but the modification of files like this is legal? I was wondering because there is a similar patch for fsr but I was afraid to even try it
you wont get banned for what amounts to allowing a built in rendering pipeline to work, otherwise tools like reshade/vkbasalt would also be banned
tools that read memory to get an advantage (like when 3.19 first dropped and people would open maps, check vram, then decide if they run the map) are bannable, and anything that violates 1 input per game action
12345
Thanks
has any one here had issues with opening the social tab? everything is working great, except when i go to open that tab the game crashes
using latest version of proton
can you try verifying game files? some file might be corrupted thats related to that tab
i did try this, with no change
damn, that's called inflation
Hey , what distribution are ppl running here ?
Arch. I've seen people bring up things like Nobara, Debian, Pop! OS, for example
Ah i see, im currently on Arch with lutris was just wondering what ppl are running overall , ty for reply
I been away from linux for a bit , is lutris still the go to for general ? such as poe2 etc
played it fine on KDE Neon, and now on Tuxedo
Did you go with steam's internal proton approach or did u do it via lutris etc ?
nixos, but i don't recommend it
not because i'm having issues but because it's not worth the effort. after you get it up and running it works pretty well...
I see , fair enough
just steam's proton
Arch/cachyos... Running through steam
Fedora, but only because itโs the only distro that has โjust workedโ with my computer - probably going to go back to PopOS when they release their next update.
Endeavour, so basically arch
Just saw this. As others have said. No. Still using it since the post and no issues here.
Debian/unstable + nvidia drivers from nvidia cuda releases(experimental)
Launching through steam proton. Just works
Xfce4, so X11 rendering. Wayland still causing problems in general
Some day it will work
yep
Mangohud is pretty good
i can confirm that asahi linux ( kde ofcourse ) runs poe2 at like 25fps min ( 16gb ram ) 50fps (max )
some ricing ( kinda proud )
Hello! New to both Linux and POE 2, how are yall running the game? Proton or Lutris?
I was running on lutris but swapped to Steam proton
seems fine either way , i just pref steam now tho
Is it normal that the F1 graph shows that I have 5 gb "mem" when I have 32 gb RAM? I think I should have a little more fps given my specs... I have been thinking about installing windows and check if theres a difference... I'm (personally) curious, how to you run PoE2 there? Standalone via Wine or through a Steam Proton?
If via Steam, what version of Proton?
Is the teal bar shorter when you use less memory (like right on the login menu)?
I am using Steam Proton! I'm using the default version (I'm not sure which version that is - sorry, I'm really new to Linux). I didn't have to tinker with it much.
As for the teal bar, I'll check how it behaves on the login screen and report back. I'm currently installing Windows on my laptop because I want to have a reference point for what I aim to achieve in Linux.
I believe the length is supposed to be proportional to the amount used, so if it doesn't change length there may be something wonky in how Wine (well, Proton) reports total physical memory.
less FPS on windows but feels waaaay smoother
Iโll give it a shot with one of the so-called gaming distros, I really want to stop using windows
On Linux... vulkan or dx12?
Dx12 can be smoother... I got a lot of micro stutter on vulkan
I tried both, Vulkan was better than dx12 for me
if your cpu time is consistently higher than your gpu time, it might be worth looking into gamemode
basically it can optimize some system parameters to improve performance
Iโll give it another shot today, will try endeavourOS, pop OS and this game mode
Garuda + Vulkan works perfect. If you're on Nvidia look at increasing your shader limit. That fixed all the stutters for me once the cache completed. ๐
Which os Linux should i install to play guys, im only on Linux exept for my gaming computer, which one is recommended (i know its up to me) ?
I mean these days most distros can play games fairly well. What are you used to?
Im used to work with debian or ubuntu
But I need one which are optimize for game
IMO there are only a few factors that affect game performance on Linux (when comparing distros)
this being the GPU drivers (typically with Mesa or Nvidia proprietary), the linux kernel release, and the proton version
As these all get updated fairly regularly, you're probably gonna want something on a rolling release (or close)
I might recommend Nobara, which is a fork of Fedora, in that case
Im using amd gpu and intel as cpu got good setup but i feel like slowed by Windows hahah
And how about arch linux ?
I usually stick to the newest veraions of GEProton and just use that through steam, but regular steam versions are prolly fine
works well. if you want to avoid the manual setup of arch you can use a distro like manjaro or endeavor
its very beginner friendly with the new archinstall script tho tbh
im on arch , its completly fine for me atleast was on lutris b4 now on steam proton , no issues at all // however im full amd system cpu/gpu wise , nvidia or intel might have a different experience im not aware of
Arch is very nice as you can find everything you may need a guide for on archwiki, for the manual instal just follow the archinstall wiki and you should be good
Know that the main difference between linux distros is what package manager they use, so you should be able to do all the same things on different distros and have about the same performance
Thanks guys for answer, i'll try nobara first, i always use windows for my gaming setup i'll do it step by step !
Personally I use arch, and if you're up for the setup I recommend it. But yeah something else like Nobara may be easier to get into
I run PopOS (A derivative of Ubuntu) for my gaming rig.
It's the OS that the folks at System76 use/maintain for their hardware. It stays rather up to date with drivers for latest hardware because of those needs.
But I keep my gaming rig stable and very little customization. If I want to do something "off label", that's what my homelab Containers/VMs are for.
Pop OS is very good and very windows like. Cachyos is the one arch distro I've used (currently on it) and it's a little more work (I had to manually install my network driver because it's a very new motherboard/2.5gb nic) but other than that... Just Works out of the box.
That's ultimately why there's very little difference noticed in most distros is they pretty much ALL "just work" now. Literally easier than installing windows
if you're already familiar with linux then cachyos is also a good option. their packages are compiled with optimizations for modern microarchitectures, so you should be getting (marginally) better performance on average
gentoo is also an option if you want to take this to the extreme, since you can build every package tuned to your specific hardware
cachyos is based on arch, but iirc it has an interactive GUI installer and comes with some stuff set up. you should still be relatively comfortable with linux before you use it though. if you do use it, i recommend also learning how to install arch (in a VM, for example) just in case you need to debug some stuff down the line
The setup isn't a concern any more IMO. archinstall makes it completely painless. Unless you mean installing packages once your system is installed/running
i believe it the idea for cachyos started out as "nobara but arch-based"
Windows got defender what Linux got ?
It's obvious this is bait but I'll bite just a hair for those that read this channel and are uninformed. On linux user privlages are greatly reduced by comparison to windows. Users cannot execute administrative commands without sudo. On windows, a user can act as an administrator by default without escalation. The only exception for things that prompt UAC. Lastly, the programs themselves cannot auto escalate their own privileges', where as programs installed in a windows environment can act as admin without sudo style escalation.
You can install windows, login, and windows assumes you're the authoritive figure. So anything you do will be unrestricted outside of prompting a uac window which is still a simple click. So if you do something silly or accidental to compromise your system, nothing is stopping it or you from doing it.
On Linux, you install linux, login, and are not assumed as an authorative figure without sudo.
Is Lutris the stable option to play on?
Sure
Anyone recommend bazzite?
never heard of it
Itโs immutable fedora with optimizations baked in
Isnt there an immutable fedora fedora
bazzite is basically steamOS without arch, but I personally don't reccomend it for a Pc
I had a good experience with Endeavour Os, Install steam and everthing basically works
Ubuntu takes some work to get it running with poe
afaik bazzite is more for handhelds or htpcs
i believe nobara has a better experience on regular desktops (or cachyos)
right click > click proton > play
That didnt work. Had to manually install proton GE to get it working + running on ext4 instead of fat32
fat32 i think is read only on linux
it's a bad filesystem anyways though imo you shouldnt use it regardless of os
only use it as a legacy support thing
Its bad but either way, steam refused to read it from windows format -> linux
Ended up installing to root drive then reformatting a new drive
proton/wine doesnt handle the filesystem
either a filesystem works natively or it doesnt
that needs to happen on the operating system level
Out of curiosity, why would you use fat32?
It was ntfs. Fat32 was in memory for some reason
running wine on ntfs is always a problem, regardless of distro
Ah, that makes more sense
just wanted to check back in to see if anyone else has an issue with the game crashing when trying to open the social screen? i've tried the following:
- changing proton versions
- verifying game files
- re installing game
- changing from nvidia card to amd
- changing from vulkan to directx 12
it's so weird - i haven't had any in-game crashes, except when I try to open the social screen - which is annoying, as it means i can't invite friends to party!
i'm using bazzite, and interestingly my friends who are also on bazzite do not have this issue
Hey. finally found the place to ask abouto my issue. I have problems with game laging. Cpu response times goes from 8ms to 60ms after a couple of alt+tab's. I've been investigating a bit and it could have to be with shaders and proton rerendering stuff after window changes states.
I have no problem with social screen. I could tell u my setup. @dusty bay
Please don't just ping random people
If you're playing through steam, check out the first pinned message
check pins
(just pinging above msg)
I was trying to help him with his issue
Iโm not sure if itโs Linux related, game, or hardware. I have move minions bound to mouse1 and detonate dead bound to mouse2. If I hold m1 and click m2 it keeps spamming dd as long as I keep m1 down (at original cast point). If I bind move minions to middle mouse button I donโt have this issue at all
Thanks for the LD_PRELOAD fix. I've been having this issue forever ๐
How do you stop the "Processing Vulkan shaders" each time you run a game?
You shouldn't see it unless there was an update to the game, or to your GPU drivers
Hmm I see.. will try updating. How about nvidia_drm.modeset=1 as kernel parameter ? is it recommended?
Im using 570.86.16 which is the latest beta driver. should I downgrade to 550.144.03?
There's also the option to send vulkan shaders processing to background, could be a solution
I think you misunderstand what I meant. The shaders may have to get reprocessed each time you install an update to your drivers, and when there is a game update
You can let them be to process in the background, but that can result in lag and hitching during the game
Oh... Now I see what you mean
Its not popping up anymore. Thanks man, you've been really helpful
anyone else here with Nobara?
The only issue with Linux is the missing support for trade apps
iirc exiled exchange 2 works
if that's what you mean
Didnt work for me
Also app image does not work that well with a couple distributions
I built it from source and it worked fine
You can't use it as an overlay in wayland though
If the shortcuts dont work which they didnt its useless
Well the price check did not work
yo.guys
What driver do you guys use for Poe2? Vulkan or DX 12?
It varies. Some people find one works better than the other
Have you tested that? Awakened works in Wayland for poe1
found a way to make it work. I have to open it in browser and it works with a shortcut
Doesn't work in sway at least
lel and just when i mention you you also write lmao
Ok sweet.
Might be the tiling though
Yeah afaik it SHOULDNT work with Wayland as it inhernetly prevents cross app window monitoring right? But after testing it does work with Wayland.
Not sure why that is haha
u do need 2 monitors tho
Thank god though, x11 is absolute garbage
Ahh maybe thats it.
well if i open it in browser it definitely needs 2
Just use vulkan wherever you can
I run 2 monitors but I just launch awakened into poe1 and it works
for me the shortcuts dont work with the overlay
Intrestingly with poe1 dx12 seems more stable than vulkan
Using nobara
Oh... Thats an issue
So you cant do a PC?
What exactly do you meab by open it in browser?
You run the app image on your second mon and the overlay appears there?
If oyu have the icon for exiled exchange you can right clikc it and open in browser then
cant make a screenshot of thsat
You right click the app image or the toolbar icon after launching?
Intresting. Can you get it work on window fullscreen?
I could ony get poe1 to work in windowed
Which is quite frustratin
here
then it open firefox and u have the "overlay" there at all times
and doing a pricecheck works then
Seems like the 24h2 crashes affecting windows users isnt just a windows thing anymore
I got through the acts just fine, now when mapping phrecia is basically unplayable. Thankfully the game now just force closes itself instead of hanging X
PS5 also affected
im fairly new to playing on linux, how do you people recommend running poe1? i tried using no compatibility tools and also using 3 diferent ones but every time i just start getting stutter after 1 or 2 hours of playing
Which rendered do you use?
DX12 is recommended
^
You say "1 or 2 hours" but I'm pretty sure it's the same issue
oh apparently it's already pinned here so I don't need to forward anymore
Wao tysm
np and gl
Anybody else have a problem of the trade site font being way too small? Seems to be fine in firefox. In chrome and brave it looks like this, tiny font for item stats. Seems to be related to the font itself, if I force it to use another the size is fine.
install Stylus
position: relative;
background: top right repeat-y;
font-size: 210%;
}```
URLs starting with "https://www.pathofexile.com/"
Thanks. Any idea why it acts that way?
no
ok well thanks, appreciate it!
With other PC players yes. There isn't a special "Linux edition"
PoE2 supports cross platform
For most intents and purposes, poe is basically the same thing on linux and on windows.
anyone else having issues with more frequent crashes? It used to never crash, now it crashed three times today alone
just disabled game recording and added LD_PRELOAD="", will see if that helps it
I've only heard of that having performance issues, not crashes. Good luck anyway
worth a try ๐คทโโ๏ธ
You can try changing your renderer
I'm using Vulkan, I thought DX12 was supposed to be quite unstable?
Not at all. In fact many people have had better performance with DX12
Depends on your GPU, drivers, etc
Oh, then I'll try that ๐ Cheers
Using a AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT if anyone have any similar experiences
lol I've got the same card
I'm on X11
I'm on wayland, could also be part of it
didn't help switching to dx12 either, crashed again
Try checking your system journal to see if that has any info on the crash
I haven't been able to play recently, but I went all the way up to t15s in the first month or so with zero crashes.
Looks to be an issue with wayland and plasma, so it's not the game itself that crashes. Going to try switch to x11
Also try gamescope
I've used sway+gamescope the entire time with no issues
Well, I do have some issues with gamescope functionality itself (e.g., no clipboard sync on wayland), but I've been addressing them in PRs.
However, gamescope devs work on valve time, so most of them aren't merged yet lmao
The fact that this is still open an completely unaddressed bothers me greatly https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope/pull/1733
Installed gamescope and that just instant crashes, supposed to be fixed in next version apparently ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Hmm could it be awakened poe? Didn't start using it until endgame and don't think I had any crashes in the campaign
if you havent already, try turning off affinities cpu1 and cpu2 in the system monitor
fixed the crashes for me on mint, its what poe uncrasher does during loadscreens on 24h2
you just need to set it every time you open the game
Got gamescope working now so will try that first and if that doesn't help I'll try your suggestion. Thanks!
Do I just use taskset for this? Couldn't see anything specific for it in system monitor
hi i am a new player to the game and when i click to choose a league this is what i get and cannot choose .
i am using linux + steam
What do you see in the previous screen
the hero select to choose what hero i want and before it create charachters menu with max 24 but i am still 0/24
i havent seen or even heard about such an issue before. thats weird.
can you double check if no betas are selected for poe in steam (if there even are any) and can you try verifying game files?
Anyone that uses gamescope that got awakened poe to work?
If you're in Wayland, I believe the issue is that it doesn't sync the clipboard with the host, and you have to patch that in
There's a PR for it (by yours truly), but it only applies on the latest commits due to changes to how the wayland backend works
Yes, I'm using wayland. Oh okay, thanks
This is the PR https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope/pull/1685 and this is the old version that might work on the current release https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope/commit/2dab0fc2792900686092a03d1f523b0fb039db11 (you'll need to apply its parent first).
is the crash amdgpu pagefault with whole pc crashing or just the game?
When I use wayland it's just the game, when I tried x11 I got logged out when it crashed and had to reboot the pc
so it's different from what im getting
for some reason the game worked fine now
thank you guys โค๏ธ

standard only available for ultra wide user
PoE 1 and 2 should just work, especially with Lutris or steam im not scrolling up but if you have issues QT proton helps alot ๐
QT proton?
also Lutris failed to init wine for me xd
Think they mean protonup-qt
A tool to install different proton versions quick and easy
Yes i just call ot QT usually and in Lutris you can just select diff packs and stuff in the advanced options for launch and run
Actually anyone here know a good program to rebind keys on keyboard and mouse i was goinf to switch back to linux but i kinda need to be able to rebind everything easily
In kde plasma you can do it in system settings
What distro do you use?
ill just go with Manjaro for the UI just make it easier i wont go full ARCH and build it thats to much for me now days
Definitely respect wise use of time but the archinstall script actually seems pretty convenient in case you didn't know. Default manjaro is still xfce right? That should have keybind settings. If you ever find yourself on a distro that doesn't have great keybind support you could always install the sxhkd service and use that.
If you were talking about actually swapping keybinds on the system such as swapping the E key with the Y key for example you could do this in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf file.
@flint laurel perfect thanks mate
Anyone know why this is happening?
I'm running the steam client on Linux Mint.
The easiest way is to sync the filter to your account
Then you don't have to deal with the files
Anyone get hit with a โyou are using cheating softwareโ since new patch?
yeah, im on arch
doesnt matter though it seems
uh halp?
I started up poe2 on ubuntu linux and I got this warning about cheat software detected and if I continue my account would be banned.
I most certainly do not run cheat software of any kind. I also only play SSF so I wouldnt have any need for it.
What software could they be talking about?
I also use this laptop for software development stuff, so maybe some of the common dev tools are triggering?
looks like lots of people are getting this
probably a bug in latest patch
Did you not read the post directly above yours about this ๐ณ
lol. no.
A patch just dropped that fixed it too.
so i just finished campaign for 1st time. Everytime i try to enter my first map in the map device i just D/C to login screen ?
open another map
regular poe issue
Hmm might try to get this to work properly in POE 2 and kde plasma
Maybe we cna add a trade oevrlay that way
https://github.com/Alzucard/Path-of-Exile-Trade-Notification-Script
At the moment i only have that script for me
This is bit off topic, but hows the support level of most game launchers Steam/Epic/etc. and whats the workaround to get em working on linux based OSs IE Mint. Or am I better off with Tiny11 or equavalent if said PC was operated by non tech savvy person
Support for steam has appeared to be quite good. I'm only aware of 2 issues. One has a fix on the top pinned comment, and the other is just the regular switch between Vulkan and DX12
Many people say epic works fine using Heroic launcher
steam you dont run under wine, you always use the native one, it has proton built in for playing windows-only games
epic runs perfect under wine
use this for looking up game compat under proton (aka valve's fork of wine built into steam)
Yeah, you can just install steam, since that runs natively, and then start launchers trough that and then you don't even have to configure steam
i use this for price checking, works good
how to pass form stema (wine ) to steam pront ( license is uender steam ) ? thx
I'm launching PoE via Steam - is there a way to run a second application at the same time I'm launching PoE via Steam?
Searching keeps returning "running multiple instances of Steam"
or you can use protontricks
Not related specifically to PoE, but maybe u can help. I've been having problems with shaders. I've tried enabling shader-precaching, background processing of vulkan shaders but every now and then game freezes and console msg is shaders related. How do u configure shaders? ty
how long do the freezes last and how often do they happen?
does there appear to be any pattern in their ocurrence? also, what is the exact console message, just saying "shaders related" doesn't help much?
shaders only need to be built once
depends on how shader-heavy the game is, but absolute worst case scenario you will get stutters for 3 hours of gameplay tops
the first moments you jump in it will be the most brutal because dxvk wont have any shaders cached yet, assuming steam has not downloaded the precompiled shaders
but it will progressively clear up and eventually be completely gone
i gave up on vulkan an i'm using dx12
performs way better
also you might want to disable sound multichannel ( it helped a lot when playing in parties )
I disabled shader caching a few days ago and then noticed the lags each time I go into a map. I've since re-enabled shader caching but I've never seen it do the caching since. I've tried restarting the game and steam, but don't see any vulkan shader caching at startup or in steam background anymore. Any idea how I can reboot the caching?
I get shaders use on each map for 30s still
Even entering literally the same map on another node
it seems like disabling it once has broken its ability to cache
someone here knows if i have to do anything after upgrading my gpu?
do i need to uninstall and reinstall drivers or which process do i have to follow?
Iirc if its nvidia do an lspci | grep nvidia, see if it works, otherwise install new drivers
I'd say install new drivers anyway jic
You may catch an update you missed
If I recall, the command will show if your hardware is running nvidia or nouveau
Or rather, if your drivers work
It has been a while so I may be wrong
I just run nvidia-smi to see if NVIDIA is properly installed then uninstall nouveau ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ
That being said I just ordered an AMD card to replace my 3070ti cause they play better on Linux machines.
anyone got steam overlay working on steam/poe2 linux?
did you override the proton choice or leave it at default?
that's what I'm using, still no overlay
x11
aha found it
I was having the openGL slowdown problem and had added LD_PRELOAD="" to the launch, that explicitly disables the steam overlay
let's see if the slowdown has improved
I haven't hit the opengl slowdown so that must be fixed too
video recording works surprisingly well, glad I can finally not fluff around with obstudio anymore
Hi guys, I downloaded steam, installed poe 2 and when I start it, nothing happens - the game tries to start and then the start button resets to "start".
Where can I at least look at the logs? Or what should I do?
You'd probably have to check your steam logs or proton logs
Steam logs aren't always in the same place, but generally if you launch steam from a terminal you'll get the output
for proton logs, if I'm not mistaken, you add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the launch options
Hey y'all, is there a flatpak for Path of Building 2 like there is for PoB1? Or are people just using a compatibility layer (wine/etc.) themselves to run the windows executable of PoB2?
(wasn't finding anything with flatpak search path of building, but just wanted to make sure)
afaik there isnt, I am just running it under wine without any issues
I've tried to build it on Linux, but they have made changes to some of the C libraries such that the previous platform-independent implementation is no longer compatible
the previous implementation being https://github.com/ernstp/pobfrontend or https://github.com/philroberts/pobfrontend
Using pob through wine. It works fine.
But if i minimize it for a while and then bring it back up it looks like this.
It's fixed as soon as i move the window around, so it's just a slight annoyance.
maybe it's related to my use of wayland
I downloaded the portable Version here https://github.com/PathOfBuildingCommunity/PathOfBuilding-PoE2/releases
Then added it in Steam as a non Steam game (Settings -> Library -> Add a Non-Steam Game). Changed the Compatibility to Proton Experimental and run it via Steam.
I had this problem in Plasma and Gnome, both with Xorg and Wayland (CachyOS/Arch), but I switched to Cinnamon and it didn't have this problem. But I guess it was the Nvidia driver version, there was a recent version that caused some glitches.
But now everything is perfect.
anyone got the new league working? installing it atm
Yeah had a couple of random crashes, but works fine
no difference to windows in my experience. got some crashes on start but most people had those. seems to be fixed now
works fine
I've had less trouble than I see all the reports on windows
poe2 doesn't open on fedora 41 kde
journalctl:
at a first glance it looks like it tries to load a steam library for the overlay which fails due to the one being found being 32bit and the game being 64bit.
might be fixed by either getting the 64bit overlay library or disabling steam overlay
i disabled overlay, same error
fixed it by moving to an ext4 partition
it was on an ntfs one
thats interesting
the errors are most likely from NTFS mishandling file metadata of files created by linux then.
and thinking the lib is 32bit because of that
I switched to arch from fedora and used the open source nvidia drivers. It runs much better. Also I can now select vulkan instead of dx12.
no that's normal, the issue is the line wineserver: /run/media/marcel/Windows/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx is not owned by you
right, makes sense. i somehow missed that part
Question: Can I just play on standard launcher or do I need to use Steam on Linux?
The game itself is not Linux compatible. You have to run it through a compatibility layer, typically wine/proton
That means, ideally, using something like Steam, Lutris, Bottles, etc.
You're able to add other programs to steam without actually owning them on steam. This would let you use proton without having to buy the game again on steam and can be more convenient than installing lutris or some other software when you already have steam installed.
For example I added the battlenet launcher to steam so I can play starcraft 2 in proton.
anyone got a solusion to look up prices of items easy on linux ? i have not tried yet but i doubt autohotkey macros will work great with wine.
nevermind did not realise Exiled Exchange 2 had an appimage, solved and works great.
it took me some fiddling around, if poe2 was running before I started discord it would register, sometimes
does anyone have this issue where steam reports poe2 as running while its not there?
Haven't had that issue
Anyone else getting these every time you login? Its not preventing me from playing, kinda scary and annoying tho... Its a false positive.
Running standalone poe 2 client in wine 10.5 staging tkg using flatpak-lutris in pure wayland mode.
Huh I've never seen that message before. Wonder if it's some kind of test they're running
been getting it for a few days
I haven't seen it but I run it from Steam so maybe that's why. I'm on Nobara BTW.
update if anyone else ever encounter the "cheating" promt.
support was useless, basically told me do not to run any software that modifies the files. (guessing he didnt know what lutris, flatpak or wine was)
`Hi there,
Thank you for contacting Support about this.
I would advise against using any programs that interact with the game client to provide an advantage over other players, as this may result in your account being permanently banned. I'm afraid, due to the dynamics of our policies, we're unable to guarantee if a tool is allowed or would remain allowed in the future. If you're unsure if a tool falls within these guidelines, we'd suggest refraining from using such a tool.
Anything that modifies game files may result in access to the game being restricted indefinitely.
Please also be aware that any macros you use need to be manually controlled and only perform one action per use. It's bannable if it performs more than one action, or if it's on a timer (as this qualifies as "botting").
Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Kind regards,
Rory`
Anyways after some research i decided to run .../Grinding Gear Games/Path of Exile 2/PackCheck.exe
and it seems like my gamefiles has been corrupted some how. (bad update?)
got the following output in journalctl after running the check: 'Fatal error: Your pack file has become corrupted and cannot be repaired. Currently the only way to fix this is to delete Content.ggpk and download it again by running the client.'
Im currently downloading the game again and i'll update if the prompt is gone or not.
edit still getting the promt
running with the latest version of wine tkg with the pure wayland implementation, playing on a laptop so every bit of performance matters. Using wayland-mode i experience much less stutter and fps drops, pretty much stable 60.
prob a new footprint compared to the x11/ x-wayland client and therefore falsely detected. WTB Native client.
Looks like the cosmic dice ended up in a 1
PoE wont launch anymore
How to contact official customer service
Hello, has anyone managed to change ingame font in poe1 using wine regedit? (i have missing glyphs for special characters in my language with default font)
A bit late to the party, but I'd suggest sharing your setup in the poe2 bug report forum instead of contacting support.
Since it's clearly a false positive.
I cant seem to find a way to get poe2 to detect my ps4 controller. Hoping someone can help me figure it out. Using Ubuntu 24.04.2
open steam and unplug the controller. Does steam show it as no longer detected? Wireless or Wired?
Yea it seems like steam is able to detect the controller when I unplug or plug the controller(Wired, no bluetooth capabilities). I tried it with another game and im getting the same issue. I was able to go into the controller settings and use steam input to play both games w/ the controller but it feels a bit awkward so im hoping I could use the built in support.
I will add though, after playing around with the steam input, its not as awkward as I thought... it seems to be fairly similar. Only difference is that I cant seem to figure out how to get the center trackpad thing to create a radial menu(but at least the "share" button can do that). So yea i think its good enough that I can say its "fixed" but regardless thank you!
I believe it is.. heres a screenshot just in case i enabled/disabled something that would mess with it
try proton-ge-custom
it shouldn't give cheat detection prompts
also not sure if they have a pure Wayland mode now, haven't used it for a while
might give more FPS than raw wine
Also open a forum ticket in bug reports section regarding to the false positive. That's the only place devs are looking at. (If you are lucky you might get support by mentioning them here or creating a Reddit thread as well.)
No offense but some real talk here; since the last 2 or so years support tickets seem to be moderated either by AI or some bunch of karens who never ever played any of the two Path of Exile games before in their lives. So I don't think you will get any real support regarding to game mechanics or technical questions.
It basically became like League support.
So your best shot is using the forums or Reddit.
@quick vortex I've tried GE, but nothing beats wayland wine on my setup. Done with this league, i'll make a post if its not gone by the next one ๐
ge has wayland support as of now?
proton hotfix made me laught tho
You've tried really much
pretty much everything
think the cachyOS version has, not sure if pure GE has it enabled.
can't somehow enable via configs?
let me search
you have to compile it with wayland yourself - atleast last time i checked
https://github.com/gloriouseggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases seems like its just an environment variable [PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1] in latest
Compatibility tool for Steam Play based on Wine and additional components - GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1
env
yes
it has wayland included in compile time
give it a shot
maybe after work ๐
btw have you used bare wine tkg or proton tkg?
wine* tkg
I mean Wine or Proton tkg
which one
which one gave the best performance for you
linux kernels starting from 6.14 has ntsync support
i've used both, but i mainly used wine tkg due to better performance, and yes - i use NT-sync
give a try to this with Wayland env enabled and ntsync enabled in kernel
basically proton-ge enhanced
once again, maybe later, I'm working ๐
gl
=== Summary ===
(all wayland)
tested GE 10.3 without ntsync - lower "lows" than wine tkg /w ntsync, no difference in highs
xiv with ntsync - felt no difference in performance compared with wine tkg /w ntsync
got the same cheating warning with all of them. Even standard GE with xwayland, has to be a flag on my account, not client level.
No matter, im done with this league.
ah
that's so weird
I also wonder why it doesn't auto ban
just shows a warning and that's it
I mean a false ban doesn't follow the false warning, wonders me why
if you have time can you open a forum post in bug reports? would be helpful for future Linux users if they solve false positives
!pings
By default, people are notified for both PoE 1 and PoE 2.
To customize your pings and channels, either:
- Go to or #rules-and-info and double-press the :bell: icon to remove the the
All-Notificationsrole or - Go to id:customize and toggle your answer for the "Ping me for both games
" question to enabled, then disabled.
Either of these will remove the (formerly) default role and instead you can select either the
Path of Exile 1 or
Path of Exile 2 roles you want. If you want neither, go to the #rules-and-info channel instead of onboarding and you can remove both as well. This may cause some channels to disappear, you can re-add them in id:customize and use 'Show all channels'
Does anyone play on a Legion laptop? CachyOS seems to have the sound die at some point and I have to re-install the firmware and software (Pipewire) to get it working again. Just wondering if anyone has a more permanent solution for this issue. (Lenovo Legion Gen 8 with a 4080 mGPU).
I used to play on a 3070 legion with arch, but i never had any sound issues so i cant help you there :(
Only performance issues in poe2
Anybody else have the experience that PoE loads way faster on linux than on windows? Just something funny I noticed after dual booting windows for some things and trying out PoE on it.
Might be that it's different drives, but I think they are of similar speed.
my guess is a better filesystem and/or better ram caching
Loads what faster? Initial loading? Loading between maps?
PoE is quite tasking on the cpu and windows has a big tax on cpu with all the unneeded processes you may or may not be able to disable
Talking of contemporary windows
hi, linux halves my fps on poe2, wat do ๐
Update the drivers and try switching the renderer and see if it changes things
for poe2 on nobaraos
i had this error all the time on linux mint too this league, ever since i upgraded to newest nvidia driver for mint (i was on v.535?, the newest one was v.555?) i didnt get this error again. important: you have to change the driver not just update your existing one. since then i switched laptop and did a complete fresh install of linux, i dont have this error on this one.
I just got installed bazzite just incase it comes with the newer one as it comes preinstalled, will see once it gets installed
my distro comes with 570.144 and it still gets that error right now.
Also worth testing out different proton version(s), know I've occasionally had to do that throughout the last few years
which one worked best for you?
it always pops up it seems
Have you tried dx12?
no idea, how?
I cant enter the game at all.
it just crashes with that error
You can change it in one of the config files if you cant enter the game
give me a sec, ill see if i can find it
~/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/poe2_production_Config.ini
change renderer_type to DirectX12
there is nothing in that file, it is empty
The mac channel had similar problems a while ago as the game has to sufficiently start to be able to save a default config.
I don't know how much of a config you need to get anywhere, I think I at some point in time had just:
[DISPLAY]
renderer_type=DirectX12
wait that directory doesnt look right
maybe its for flatpak steam, mine is here:
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/poe2_production_Config.ini
think thats all i had to add to the blank file when mine didnt start on ea release
/var/home/denis/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/poe2_production_Config.ini
still an empty file though
Look at what zao wrote, put that in your empty file
yep it worked, but it runs at 30 fps with fsr on a gtx980
I still want to use vulkan because dx makes it unplayable on action, but will see.
also got this error with proton experimental
I use bazzite os
You use what?
bazzite is a handheld+desktop os similar to steam os but more feature packed, I also tested on pika os
Anyone else dealing with a sudden FPS drop after last night's patch? I went from pegged at 88fps (my set cap) with limited fluctuation below that, to barely hitting 60fps on the same settings today. On EndeavourOS, 5900X, 7900XTX and 32GB @4000mhz. It's almost like the game isn't leveraging my GPU anymore.
enable and disable the vsync? maybe it got reset to default with the update
Thanks for the reply. I tried to change a few graphics options (including vsync) and nothing seemed to change. Reinstalled the game an I'm back to pegged at my frame cap. Oddly enough it also fixed an issue with the Texas server not showing up as available. However, now I'm getting periodically disconnected after starting a map, which eats the entire map and sends the node to "attempted." Pretty frustrating.
Sidekick AppImage works in POE2 in Nobara it can access the window. U can pricecheck like normal
Exiled exchange 2 appimage works too
Has anyone had success with trade helpers like Awakened PoE Trade or PoE Overlay on Wayland? In particular, with Hyprland on Arch Linux?
Last I looked, the window overlay that APT uses calls a protocol that's specific to X11. You can still use the tool, but you have to use the browser window option
There's some posts about that on the awakened-poe-trade Github, including some window rules which some people say work for them with an overlay. https://github.com/SnosMe/awakened-poe-trade/issues/1137
I'm currently working on the same thing, trying to get APT or Sidekick working with XWayland. Looks like I may need to use a different XWayland implementation, though - I normally use xwayland-satellite which gives each top-level window its own Wayland window. I suspect I'll need them in the same top-level window for input to all work correctly
Running in labwc seems to work okay, looks like APT is getting a bit confused about mouse coordinates and thus auto-hide doesn't work. But opening for pricecheck etc without autohide works fine, at least
I wish gamescope wasn't so dang buggy. It always crashes one way or another for me.
Anybody had the issue with PoB where it ghosts when moving around the passive tree and stuff? This was happening on X11 GNOME.
Also on hyprland when it wasn't fullscreened it would have weird issues where parts of the passive tree were transparent.
I couldn't get the overlay to work, however you can run it in a webpage.
I use NixOS so can't run appimages normally, so this is what I would do:
appimage-run ./apt.AppImage --no-overlay --listen=localhost:46217
I got it to run as an overlay in labwc, also NixOS
Yeah, it was suggested in the Niri readme
I've been looking for something nice to replace Hyprland since the hyprland community and developer seem kind of toxic, but nothing looks as nice ๐ญ
The hyprland discord is like global chat
Niri is pretty excellent. Definitely not as mature as Hyprland, but the approach to window management is great, as is the dev
Scrollable seems odd
Coming to it from a tiling WM I'm really happy with the change. I can still make a small tiled layout pretty easily - though it is fairly manual - but I can also deal with larger numbers of windows very easily
it's much nicer for being able to park a task on a workspace to keep it separate
Well yes, but that on i had to open in the browser to work. Xwayland didnt like Exiled Exchange 2
How u get POE to run in native wayland both poe1 and 2 run in XWayland for me
try ld preload fix
also what you mena by trade macro?
only tested that in poe2 and it caused the window to go really wonky. Wasnt able to max it to fullscreen at all
but why would u make one there are 2 that work pretty well
Yeah teh standard is wayland
so everything with x11 uses xwayland
i can show you in idk 10 min how it looks
what compositor?
kwin
and there isnt really a way to maximize it, well i didnt find one
i can make maximize the window, but thats it the borders will still be there
and changing the display ingame closes it
@dusk spear @strong kraken i fixed it adding Display= to the launch options made changing display possible and therefore also the borderless.
GE did say we shouldnt use that tho
that's weird, it works fine popping up its own window without a browser for me
but I'm on x11
yeah thats the reason
gotcha
im used to have logout macro to disconnect when game client unresponsive and connection to server is lost. How do i do it in linux (without logout macro), timeouts are far beyond reasonable, i have to wait like 5 minutes just to get disconnected or kill process
upd: sudo ss -K dport 6112
Honestly, I wouldn't even bother anymore. The game will pause if you press esc
I've found I can just press f1 to see the ping time and then pause and wait for it to correct itself
it makes client to fall back into 'login screen' state
and i do not have to wait timeout time when servers unresponsive
more useful than ever, since we have so many issues with this launch
Gotcha
game keeps crashing whenever i go to redeem hillock rewards from the beginning of the game, anyone know anything?
tried different proton versions and renderers but it keeps crashing 100% of the time
hmm mine kept crashing with the proton version I'd set so I unset it entirely and let steam choose and then it worked fine
Hello, I'm running Path of Exile 3.26 on Linux Mint using Proton, and I encounter consistent micro-stuttering when entering a new zone (after a loading screen). The FPS remains high (e.g., 180+), but the game feels choppy โ movement and animations stutter noticeably. If I leave the zone and re-enter it, the stuttering completely disappears in about 50% of cases.
This happens even in towns or regular maps. Iโve tried various tweaks, shader cache options, and launch parameters, but nothing has resolved the issue.
Here are my system details:
OS: Linux Mint 22.1 x86_64
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070
Driver: NVIDIA 550.144.03 (proprietary)
Proton version: Proton Experimental
Renderer in game: Vulkan (also tested 12)
I've tested multiple launch options and configurations, but the stutters upon entering an instance still persist.
Has anyone else encountered a similar issue? Any ideas, suggestions, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Can you please observe your on screen graph to what causes the stutters?
Does the stutter happen when you first ever enter a zone in this league or does it repeat when you re launch your game and enter the zone in the previous instance for the first time in that new instance?
I can help you if you would like
It is not caused by CPU spikes, and I also have stable FPS.
Steps to reproduce the issue:
I enter any instance (e.g., a map). Two outcomes are possible: either everything works normally, or micro-stuttering begins.
I teleport to my hideout. Again, stuttering may or may not occur (same behavior as step 1).
I enter the same map again. The same thing can happen โ either normal performance or stuttering (same as step 1).
So basically any teleport (loading screen) may or not fix issue.
its been a while but on my system if i recall correctly it had to do something with sound, this is my current launch params on steam:
LD_PRELOAD="" WINEALSAOUTPUT=default WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winealsa.drv=b;winepulse.drv=d" %command% --nologo
the ld_preload is to solve a problem where the game becomes laggier the longer it stays up bcs of some steam libraries.
the rest is what fixed it for me.
--nologo skips intro
Thanks. I'll try
Didnโt help. But Iโve noticed that my MEM is fully allocated, and it canโt go above this strange 5.1โฏGB cap. Seems like something is limiting Path of Exileโs memory usage.
I checked Linux limits it's says max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
Do u know what else it could be?
The extent of the bar could be how Wine-likes report total memory to the application. The last time someone posted a similar screenshot I tried to make some applications of my own report similar figures but couldn't provoke it.
A freshly booted PoE1 on my Win11 desktop sits at 5.3-5.4 GiB but with a properly long bar, so the usage isn't too far off normal numbers I reckon.
(I believe I'm obliged by community customs to inform you that my laptop runs arch btw
)
I appreciate your answer. It will stop me from searching in the wrong direction.
no idea, mine sits at exactly 5.1GB too
I wouldn't necessarily point at it as the memory being limited. If the game can't allocate enough RAM, it could just crash. Considering the bar is "long" though, that would imply that the memory is a performance bottleneck
The bar displays the current amount (which is likely correct) as a percentage of total system memory, which may not be.
Oh. I assumed it was related to like memory speed or something. My mistake
Since you tested plenty of launch options, I'm guessing you've tried --waitforpreload
My poe2 on steam used to cache shaders on startup which was annoying so I disabled it in steam but then ran into lots of invisible features on first entering a map and shaders consuming CPU every time I portal. I tried re-enabling shaders on steam's config but now it no longer does it. I regret dropping the option, is there any way to force re-enable it without reinstalling (which I don't even know if it will fix it.)
Or was this a conscious change in poe2 itself and me changing the steam setting was purely coincidental?
Not sure if it's still a thing in PoE2 (I assume it is), but you can try passing --waitforpreload flag to have it load that stuff ahead of time
after the %command% ? I tried that, made no diff
in fact it was seeing that post just before mine that had me thinking I should ask the brains trust
You can tell in your Client.txt if an option is unrecognised, here PoE2:
2025/06/21 14:28:49 839391187 44e5269a [INFO Client 46192] [CMD][Unrecognized] --waitforpreload
(not sure if PoE1 reports unrecognized args, but it's indicating in PoE2 at least)
k thanks
2025/06/21 11:50:14 347558639 44e5269a [INFO Client 312] [CMD][Unrecognized] --waitforpreload
I did โ and others did as well.
Out of all the launch options, only one was helpful: LD_PRELOAD but in other issue
The others made no difference.
here are the launch options for poe: https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Launch_options
can you test --nosound and then --softwareaudio and see if it's still shuttering?
Launch options are command line arguments (parameters) for Client.exe that change the game. Most of these are not intended for use by players.
i remembered something else i have done, i incresed nvidia shader cache size to 20gb by adding
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SIZE=21474836480
to my .zshrc, if you don't use zsh it's .bashrc, after that source .zshrc once or restart pc to take effect
you can remove the shader from /home/USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/shadercache/238960 if you want, dunno if its necessary but i did
I did it to reduce load times between zones(didn't work for me, but i read mixed results), but it could have helped with shuttering maybe
If anyone knows if i can do something about load times it would be appreciated, dunno if its a poe problem or something else but i can get between 2s to 1min load times, i did SMART check my ssd and it passed
the servers themselves can have a massive effect on load times, for eg the australian servers are typically pretty bad for act runs, anywhere between 10-90s from clicking the next zone while the texan ones load reasonably fast for me even at the 180ms ping, 1-15s
I gave up. I don't know what else it could be.
Hi, I'm having an issue playing on ubuntu 24.04 with an amd rx 7900xt, I use proton experimental in steam
The game runs fine at the start of the day for about 30โ60 minutes, then closes by itself with no clear error. After this, the game keeps closing itself every now and then (1min, 5min, 10min max)
- Steam just says "Game stopped" : game stopped [gameid=238960] Removing process 327953 for gameID 238960
- I already tried clearing cache, changing Proton versions, monitoring temps, but nothing seems to work
any idea what could be causing this or what else I could check? thanks in advance for your time ๐
Try the recommendation of the most recent pinned comment
thank you for your answer! unfortunately, this doesn't solve my problem
Aw that's too bad
Appreciate your help with this, will check this out tomorrow and let you know what I find
check how the PCIe are plugged into the gpu, i was daisychained and getting 14ms frametimes from cold boot in hideout on my rx6700xt, now it's down to 5ms after switching to two cable setup
oops forgot to un@
massive jump tbh
I was able to check the hardware and clean the components. I also checked the PCIe and I have a two-cable setup: 8-pin + 6+2-pin. About the GPU, not sure about the reference but I've had this one for about two years ago and never had an issue with other games
I added the PROTON_LOG and this is the file I got, is there anything that catch your attention?
Thank you so much! apparently, disabling multi threading does the trick (with the cost of less fps
)
@cedar jacinth what is your CPU and your kernel version
sounds like a low level issue regarding to CPU queue buffers
As usual ubuntu sucks again, change your distribution if you can
or switch to a newer kernel and update mesa, for something less frastic. thats what i did with mint to fix most intermittent gpu reset crashes
running liquorix on 6.15.x i think
I spoke too soon...
the kernel version I have is 6.11.0-26-generic and the thing is that this only happens on poe, I can play other games normally without problems. Wondering if the post GGG made yesterday is related, about the servers issues, seems like it could be
6.11 is long EOL. I strongly recommend you update to something that is still supported.
ubuntu LTS doesn't use an LTS kernel? that's weird
oh yeah it seems like they stopped doing that after 20.04. interesting
Is anyone else having constant crashes to desktop? Ever since today I am crashing every couple of minutes and i'm not sure what it is. arch, ryzen 5700x3d, 6700xt
There hasn't been a driver update in the past couple of days and I haven't really changed anything on my system
not sure if could be related, I described a similar situation some days ago... just today it appear like is gone for good, but I'm not sure about the possible solution for this. What I did today was run the game from console PROTON_LOG=1 steam steam://rungameid/238960 and after this, everything was right, I can now open the game from steam.
other things I remember:
- In game, I downgraded the option for water details.
- Changed memory speed from 5800 to 5600. (the game still stopped the first time)
hope this help ๐
I think I figured it out, journalctl hinted on glib being the issue which is provided by libmm-glib which is gamemode (which had an update today) and that I tried today and thought I remove already but didn't. Downgrading that package solved it
Personally I don't even bother using gamemode with this. Haven't found it to make any notable difference
afaik a lot of motherboards will have similar behaviour by default anyway, most of what it does is just to do with power profiles, which barely has an impact on desktops unless you daily drive an extreme eco mode
i appear to be having similar issues. I'm new to linux but do have a good IT background, just not linux.
My game stutters and now is freezing after a few mins of game play. i did get around 20-40 misn out of it. was stuttering hard but changed settings that worked semi smooth with little stuttering. now it just disconnects shortly after playing. my overlay is enabled like the pinned message says
I reviewed what gamemode is just now and it appears i dont even have it installed
I also did this minus the memory change, its now just working fine. will post if that changes.
after around an hr the issue has come back, freezing and stuttering. restarting the game doesnt fix
Hiya folks. Doing the bazzite test run myself trying to run both games.. ootb, poe2 didn't seem to launch on a fresh install of current stable bazzite.
Played around with a few proton (and ge) versions, no go. Doesn't boot the game at all, no compatdata dir/ini file created yet, etc.
Any tips? :)
Amd 5600x, nvidia 3080 (i think bazzite selected the prop. Nvidia driver, 570.x). Added my separate drive i use for steam in windows as a library in bazzite's steam, if it matters.
am i supposed to see some logs anywhere? since its not creating the appid's folder/compatdata, im not sure
poe1 doesn't start either
You can turn on PROTON_LOG=1 in Steam to get output for proton specifically
hmk, that created a log in home dir, but nothing much in it

Oh. That's all you get? You could maybe check your system logs then
yup, steam shows playing for a few secs and then goes back to it not being played, presumably the process crashes/stops
steam's own log or you mean the OS level logs somewhere?
i've dealt with linux long enough, not quite the desktop/GUI side of things tho :]
Both? If you launch steam from a terminal you'll get those logs
yup, figured that part out now. terminal shows this at some point:
OSError: [Errno 22] Invalid argument: '../drive_c' -> '/run/media/USER/SteamDrive/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx//dosdevices/c:'
so maybe my dedicated drive for steam is doing something
lets try disconnecting that library and reinstalling poe2 on the linux partition just in case
ok, yup. at least started with a "local" install as is, with valve's proton experimental
~100 fps on vulkan with highish settings on 1440p, hmk
add LD_PRELOAD="" %command% to launch options, been a while but steam has problems with libraries or smth, if you are not on steam ignore.
Its not ntfs right?
Not sure, will have to check. Defo won't help if it is..
it could just be not getting mounted when you turn the pc on, if u open that drive in a file explorer first then try to open the game, does it run from that drive?
thank for this, the pinned message says to add LD_PRELOAD="" without the %command% on the end which throws exception prompts and doesn't boot the game.
it is NTFS ๐ would you suggest something else? exFAT/FAT32? or even somehow ext4 and make windows-steam/games be able to read it?
%command% is the substitute for what steam would actually try to run, so has to be there always in general, you just add things to either side (for env vars or for arguments)
maybe even a crazy thing like btrfs and enabling the win driver for it
but thats probably taking it too far for no good reason
Im not sure if Windows can read ext4? I dont touch Windows unless forced by work. I would probably just go with exfat because its easy (as long as its not ntfs, ive seen so many users where the only problem they had was running the games on ntfs)
But check that the drive was mounted like @outer pagoda said too, maybe you can postpone changing fs for a little while
i do need to open the drive first, and then its mounted as fuse
some games do load from it as is, poe didnt
can do exfat or even btrfs (and install that driver on windows) i guess
I play with all my Games on my NTFS drive without any problems, what OS are you using and how is it being mounted?
I have decent specs on my pc but when I run poe in linux mint I get at least 150+ latency, I use proton GE has this happened to anyone else?
latency would be more related to your internet than your specs
But every other games runs just fine on 10-20 ping
have you confirmed you're on the closest server to you?
Anyone else have this issue where poe crashes the whole os?
If your whole OS is crashing, that's a sign of a deeper issue than just the game
I mean I was playing poe and it all just froze had to froce restart my pc
It's completetly unplayable
Bazzite 42, automounted as fusefs i think. Either way, ill just convert it to btrfs or just split the drive to two partitions and double up for now, just a bit of a headache that isnt needed. Bazzite, Valve/Proton all say NTFS is a bad idea in general.
once i moved it off the ntfs drive, poe1/2 both worked fine OOTB with vulkan (nvidiot 3080, 575.xx drivers)
are you playing with an nvidia or an amd gpu?
nvidia, but I checked everything that I could the drivers seem ok
poe has a thing internally where if the drivers crash it tries to reboot them, nvidia is a fuck with that and just plainly doesnt work or print anything in syslog. have fun diagnosing the actual issue, i ended up on amd after my 3060 pcb melted ๐
It appears in some other games and I've been trying to fix it for a month ๐ข
but in poe it crashes the most
i had it in poe and LE
cpu bound games like dota ran flawlessly
u could be like me and just got majorly unlucky on silicon
Do you have any suggestions?
check your pcie cable setup (is the gpu plugged into the psu on one daisychained cable, or the short end of 2 cables?), get a comprehensive hardware monitor (the x server one only shows 1 temp when 3-4 are relevant)
I'm on a laptop
can try undervolting, but afaik its a downwards hill issue with some 30s series cards
oh
but my pc has decent specs, on windows I didn't have this issue before
yeah its something fucked with the nvidia drivers and hardware
some combo makes it a nightmare, and like i said they dont log anything like andgpu does so u cant really check
on rtx 2060 should I stay on nvidia-550 or try 570-open/
is there a non-open 570
I don't think that it's the drivers, but anything is possible
For me no
is that in the nvidia driver menu,or their website
driver menu
check if they have debs on the website to use, or quickly learn how to do an OS repair in grub
coz the open drivers plainly wont ever boot for some people
found a 570.169 version I'll try it out
any gentoo users here?
Hello, I am having a bit of an inconsistent issue.
When alt tabbing sometimes the game stops responding.
It's not 100% but it happens.
My theory is due to Nvidia being Nvidia. (I have a laptop 3060 gpu)
I am on mint, playing through steam.
Does anybody know of the issue?
Hey Guys, was thinking about swapping to Linux again. Any macros/Tools like the trade macro in windows? It's the 2nd last thing keeping me in windows yet again
Awakened PoE trade works fine on Linux
Though if you're using Wayland you may need to use the browser instead of the overlay
IIRC macros should still work
hi fellow linux exiles ๐
I'm trying to get a "scroll-wheel-click" solution up and running under Wayland (hyprland).
My wrists are starting to hurt lol.
I'm wondering if anyone here had any luck with that?
Tried input-remapper (mapping SCROLL_WHEEL_DOWN to BTN_LEFT) however I can't really get it to work.
E.g, when I'm in a Stash Tab and hitting CTRL+DOWN, the game switches tabs instead of moving items - seems like it has priority over the remapper
thanks in advance ๐ง
my guess is that the mapping is only applying if you have no modifiers.
Try these and choose whichever you desire:
My recommended order to try is:
https://python-evdev.readthedocs.io (Newer, Low level and Python based)
https://github.com/snyball/Hawck (Older, Low level and C++ based)
https://github.com/kmonad/kmonad (Newer, High leven and Haskell based)
I personally use keyd, which might be a better option for simple usecases. Not sure if it works for what you're trying to do though.
how is everyone running path of building on linux?
Off the top of my head:
- there's a sometimes-maintained third party package in Arch AUR built around
pobfrontend, - there's a Flatpak from some third party bloke built around
pobfrontend, and - there's running the first party PoB via a Wine-like.
I use this
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/path-of-building-community-git
works OK, but when I try to import I get this error:
I guess because it was last updated months ago.
i'll try the flatpak version now
The first two have the drawback of being repackages/modifications of upstream source with a runtime that somewhat does the right thing.
The latter has the drawback of having to wrangle a Wine-like to get it running properly, but is more cohesive inside.
flatpak version fixed it all good
There's also an online version if all else fails
i just have a bat file that opens it in wine since i've been using it like that since expedition
You mean bash?
i used lutris to install it. it should setup the wine settings for you
i use lutris to install it but for some reason I have to run it via wine manually and it can't connect to internet, otherwise works perfectly though
I'm blaming my PC for this, it's known to be very cursed
a file in which the terminal executes wine PathOfBuilding.exe
lol okay
What nic is lutris using, can you verify with winecfg (I think lutris has a menu item for this)?
Also what is your resolver when path of exile is running..?
At least go into env vars for the game and set
Variable: WINDEBUG
Value: +winsock
and it will show you what interface itโs using
real quick, so im new to the linux gaming scene but im not afraid to experiment, but why does the in-game resolution for POE2 seems so much better on linux in comparison to windows, such as the waystones look so much clearer in the inventory.
The UI ought to always be full resolution on any platform. Things like display scaling should only affect 3D content.
It'd be interesting to see comparative screenshots if it's an actual thing, heaven knows what happens in translation.
let me see if i can get comparison screenshots rq
(mostly curious for myself)
