followed you on twitch !
#1 global top seller on Steam now too.
You can buy it on steam with no issues?
has anyone got issues with random people joining you in party?
goign over the limit of 6?
How??their website is still down
Yeah I can't claim the key unless website is up
I was spamming the login button until it went through. I must have had a small moment where the site was up and it managed to register my EA. My account on the site now shows EA also
got to the first town, put on my support pack armor skins and such, and got to level 3. Good enough for the night
Anyone leaking memory?
It worked for about 10-15 minutes then got increasingly choppy. Right now I'm sitting at queue cause it was unplayable and had to exit, and even just sitting in queue memory is leaking.

the graphic looks a bit weird in linux, character model not sharp
it looks better than this, could be related to my monitor being large, 27 inch
looks like downscaling
ouch xD
play at a lower native resolution
Such as
Couldnt get any better performance results with other options
Yeah, this is why I upscale
Weird issue: can't use a different GPU on linux without disabling the overlay.
not sure exactly what's breaking here but it seems like a proton bug specific to PoE2
also the game will not update the game window in fullscreen
1080ti. Weird setup though, because my primary gpu is a shitty rx560
using __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json %command% to launch the game. This basically gets games running via nvidia optimus smoothly on wayland.
yeah actually I can barely get it to launch properly on nvidia at all. Seems like 90% of launches just immediately hang
Posting here for anyone else needing the fix thats working for me. POE2 Only.
- Go here.
...SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/
- In that folder will be a file titled
"poe2_production_Config.ini"
- Open that file and place this at the bottom.
renderer_type=DirectX12```
Paste it EXACTLY HOW IT IS, save and reboot.
Playing rn with no issues. Hope this helps someone else!
Tested on
Garuda/Arch/Endeavor and this allowed all 3 machines to play without issue.
These machines are Wayland + Nvidia. One is a team red, but it worked just fine. Hope this helps!
you weren't able to use the direct vulkan renderer?
what went wrong when you tried to use vulkan? Right now I can only get my RX560 to load the game.
Vulkan caused a crash immediately. black screen and no changes.
Doing what i put there fixed it. Even if you change to Vulkan inside of the game it crashes and makes a horrible noise in your ears lol.
Yep. Im on Nvidia + Wayland rn and no issues with DX. Vulkan chooses violence
is this normal poe2 graphics?
Managed to get vulkan + nvidia working in a wayland session.
setup: Arch / kde plasma 6 / latest nvidia
running the standalone game in flatpak lutris with runner 'wine-tkg-valve-exp-bleeding-9.0.141056.20241206-327-x86_64.pkg'
if you run the wine instance it self in wayland mode vulkan works, performance is about the same as dx12 tho.
to enable wayland mode in wine you have to open wine registry and add a new string value at 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Drivers'
Name it 'Graphics' and set the value 'x11,wayland'.
Then configure the game in lutris go to 'system options' and scroll down to 'environment variables' and add a new key 'DISPLAY' and leave the value field empty.
//Edits
Wine 10 .0 rc1 also works via wayland, DLSS seems to work with this version
https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/commit/4161e62e478f61fdcd0365d9bd7b21e3b1a5197b/pipelines
Hope this helped someone!

hi guys, what Proton version do you play on?

Lutris, Linux Mint current... Made a portal to town and clicked on it and now this everytime, any ideas?
Try switching wine version, just for the sake of trying π
Also clear all caches you can find... not at the computer atm so no handy links
So I made a mercenary- Got up to going into the village again... Same thing.... So I checked which versions of WINE Lutris would let me use and Proton Experimental was one of them. I switched to that, and now my witch can log into the town so I assume that fixed it. So if anyone else complains about Lutris (not likely) your suggestion of switching to a different WINE version will probably help (though as I was writing this message with it in the background it crashed again but hey, at least it loaded this time.)
GE-20 rn. Working as intended.
I am only using Lutris because of the lack of Steam keys last night and I couldn't force steam to use the standalone so far
I had a black screen on 9.20 with my NVIDIA dgpu. Only 7.xx worked. Trying now to install the game via Lutris.
I posted a fix above that solved that issue for me. Adding the
renderer_type=DirectX12```
to the poe2_production_config.ini
That fixed that black screen issue across the board for me. π
Wish you best of luck, time to sleep, a bit late here in eu π back in 6h ish
Good, I can confirm this is working. Thanks.
No problem dude. Pass it on if you see anyone who needs help.
You have image quality option. It doesn't exist for me
You need to change Upscale Mode to FSR first.
I gave up and went to bed.
Which key opens the tab with all the menus on one page, like map, inventory, etc. on PC?
I couldn't find any in keybindings menu.
Saw it in a yt video and I cannot find it⦠total noob what I am
maybe it's a macro with keyboard? just to push multiple keys at once
Why the hell do I have less than half of fps I had yesterday π
Anyone managed to fix the error:
no collision callback set?
Try the native wayland version of wine i mentioned above, didnt really get more fps, but it was smoother / less random stutter... Has to be wine 9.0+, its experimental so newer = better π
Hate to admit, but 2 reboots fixed my issue π Also am using protonGE 9-20
But thanks anyway β€οΈ
Standard xD
was anyone able to get the game to ignore vsync ? mine is allways at 60fps
i getting 123FP at 4k
which distro are you using ? driver ? any particular configuration ?
I set mine to dynamic and getting 70-80 iirc
Is there a steamdeck channel or is this the place ?
no issues here, 120fps manually limited
VSync by default - Adaptive
Anyone else getting choppy frames after 30-40 minutes of gameplay?
Looking at the client logs I see the following
2024/12/07 15:46:35 12066722 93b1a151 [CRIT Client 288] [RENDER] Shader uses incorrect vertex layout (expecting 0x28)
I'm on steam and tried it with different versions of proton: Proton 9.0-3, Proton Experimental, GE-Proton9-20
Also tried it with DirectX 12, and Vulkan
Before the error I get somewhere between 100-120 FPS, but after that error pops they go to 70 and it becomes really choppy.
AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (32) @ 5.08 GHz
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT
Does anyone have good steamdeck settings to get the most of it ?
I do experience frame drops, a little bit but still. Time to time micro freeze on my beefy pc. Tried Lutris and Steam GE-Prodon all versions, no luck. It was ok, before the latest patch....
running wayland?
xorg
same. not sure if it's linux or everyone
try setting env VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv in lutris
yes, I'm on wayland and I do see an error in logs: [drm] Fence fallback timer expired on ring gfx_0.1.0
trying to google this,,, now
if you're on wayland i strongly recommend you to test the native wayland version of wine. Its supported on all 9.0+ builds. kinda took me by surprice... Got zero issues, great performance been playing all day on wine 10.0rc1 that released yesterday.

I have a feeling that Kernel 6.12.3 is jerking with my AMD igpu, I going to try few other kernels and if not luck, I will try your suggestion with wine 10.0rc .
somehow we have a queue to login... lol
server crashed ~5 mins ago π
wow, it seems no issues... I've just changed the kernel to normal cachyos 6.12.3 and 0 lags so far, sorry wine 10.0rc, next time π
What is sad and not logical is I cant play PoE 1 because of a vulkan issue on Debian but I can run PoE 2 np.
PoE1 is great on my Linux system until you get to maps and do Breaches or Blights
then it and the video device are no longer on speaking terms randomly
Could play any map with any FX but then the update came for Kulgar or what ever and it started giving vulkan issues.
I expect PoE2 to do this at some point
Would be nice if they had like a poe2 bug reporting ticket thing here where we could dump our client logs after crashes
This isnt a offical PoE Discord.
More like a fan based discord
I looked on the forums too and they don't have it there either ;p
So even if it was official I doubt they'd have one
anyone else get really long loding screens randomly and have to restart
nope
I have not, the game has been pretty flawless since the website went back up yesterday.
Can't start the game in steam deck. After writing the character name, if I press A it will ask the name again and repeat.
Never actually starts the campaign
Hey all, is it possible to use a Controller with the keyboard at the same time in POE2? The controller feels great for gameplay, but I don't like it at all for anything else. I couldn't even figure out how to assign a skill gem in my inventory after about 5 minutes I gave up.
Ideally I would use the Controller to play the game, for combat etc, no real modification to UI is needed or desired. I just want to map movement and the spells. Then the mouse and keyboard for every other aspect of the game. I think this would help with some RSI / pain I been getting in my fingers / hands lately too.
They said this will be implemented in the future
its a bug for all platforms and i think only if you are in a party
anyone getting random stuttering?
It's almost the same, wasd is nice when fighting, but when theres no killing do do it's annoying.
anyone managed to get HDR work in Linux through Steam? it works with standalone launcher through Heroic
yeep. I tried proton-9.xx and experimental thru steam and couldnt get a fix there. switched to standalone launcher running thru lutris (on wine-ge-8.26 i think) and the stuttering is mostly gone.
Youβre picking an already used name
@stray fulcrum itβll say in small βname already existsβ and youβre likely just not seeing it
Anyone got any ideas on how to fix a performance issue that crept up overnight? I went from 100+ fps to 20 fps, and my whole system is stuttering while the game is running. On EndeavourOS with Nvidia 3080. I've tried every single thing i could find.
lmk what info you need.
are you in a new zone that might have not been shader pre-cached yet?
No, it is not shadercache related. I get around 20-25 fps anywhere (including the login screen) with a very jaggy framegraph. I can sit in the login screen for 10 minutes, nothing changes. I did a full system upgrade to try and fix this, so i'm on the latest everything.
I tried every proton version, i tried gamescope, i tried dx11, dx12, vulkan (black screen on boot), i tried bleeding edge proton experimental. I tried any random combination of ingame settings.
It worked fine not 24 hours ago.
Temps are fine. GPU reports 100% usage (at 150watts instead of the regular 290) while being 60C. CPU is snoozing.
F1 overlay in PoE shows that GPU is jumping around 40-60ms.
what does the framegraph show exactly? you can read if it's shader, ram, cpu, etc from it
this is from the login screen?
Yes. Where i got fps cap 120fps yesterday with 70% gpu usage.
hmm yeah the only off value really is the GPU time, like you had mentioned before
If it helps, i got the problem once yesterday morning ONCE, but i then rebooted and it was fixed. This doesn't work anymore. I've rebooted 10 times.
Other games work absolutely fine.
right now I have no idea what it could be then. Which compatibility layer are you using?
Right now i'm on Proton 9.0.3, but have tried proton 8, experimental, bleeding edge and hotfix.
I should mention i'm running it through steam.
I haven't checked log, but after a couple of hours of play, my CPU latency shoots through the roof. And the FPS drops real low.
AMD Ryzen 3600X and RTX 4070
guys, i fix my stuttering problems by switching from a wireless connection to a cable one
everything is butter smooth now
yeah actually, framerate is tied to your connection if you have the sync option on
poe1 helped me diagnose that my house's electrical wasn't grounded at the meter any more
yeah I dunno what happened to the grounding rod. the wire was just hanging freely from the bottom. I dug around where it could be connected to and there was nothing so I had to pound a new one in.
and that actually did magically fix the signal issues at the modem
(well cablemodem is grounded to the same wire as the house electric too)
add LD_PRELOAD="" %command% to your launch options
cpu jumping to 50ms is a steam replay bug
Every single time
Im currently only have early access for poe2 with the non steam launcher which I run with bottles, everything worked really good.
Now I updated my nvidia drivers and Im getting this error message lul (Is it possible already to play the game via steam?)
fsync: up and running.

I may should try downgrading drivers
launch the game in DX12 mode, can also try to restart the PC.
I rebooted my pc 2 times with "restart", and thought this could not be the issue. Now i turned it off completly and restarted and this fixed it
wth
new poe2 guild = Linux User Group
Thinking of getting the game, I use steam deck, what do I need to do? Or is it as simple as download it?
Unsure about performance of game on steamdeck hardware but my experience has been hit play and it works.
It says it's not supported, I would like to hear from at least 1 person who has tried it
Tried it, was as easy as hitting download and then play. It didnt look great out of the box, someone said it can be improved by messing a little bit with settings, i didnt touch that though so cant say for sure
Can check tomorrow if nobody else responds if you want
Thanks, ill listen to some content on YouTube while at work. Then I may give it a shot
I am considering trying on my Ryzen 4650GE mini PC with integrated graphics. This sounds promising. Would the game be stable at 30 FPS at medium graphics on the Steam Deck? Because that would be my minimum requirements playing on the TV.
Worked like a charm! Thank you π«Ά
I was having really high MS spikes across the board and i used that + disabling replay on steam and its running way better, TYSM sir
you should do it in in pretty much any steam game
its a really annoying bug with steam replay where it gets loaded even while disabled
im assuming that preload thing has something todo with shader complilation?
explains the ms spikes
I didn't have the problem in Satisfactory. But I will keep it in mind
also same, ive never had the frame time problem in other steam games, just poe1/2
I wish windows had this
I am not sure, but it loads on background, correct?
you are best off disabling that inside steam
it takes time but is very useful to have
Better to load before the game than during it, right
yep, if it loads during game you get stutters
If it does it every time you launch it sounds like a bug. I switched mine off and I've not had any issues.
it does it on launch if you don't allow it to do it when steam is idle or it hasn't finished yet
some games have issues with it, like Warframe where it redoes it a ton
the original post says every single time, it is a known bug if it does it every launch.
where do you drop neversink filter on linux?
<LIBRARY_LOCATION>/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/
with <LIBRARY_LOCATION> being where the Steam library containing PoE2 is on your system
number 2694490 is the same for everyone and it is the App ID of PoE2
I have a strange issue where I hard crash every time I use an ice skill, doesn't matter which class, if using Dx12. If I use Vulkan or Dx11, it doesn't happen (although the performance is way worse).
I haven't played since the last hotfixes and GGG seems to have fixed some crashing issues so I'll see if it still happens.
But it's very weird that I crash only when use ice skills, maybe it's a shader or particles or whatever, my pc fully freezes and I have to use the Alt+PrintScreen+REISUB shortcut to restart.
I was even checking the game logs and they don't show anything, I just disconnect after a minute and hear the game sounds but the GPU dies and I have to restart the PC.
It's a pity because I finally moved to Debian for daily use and was really hyped for this game π¦ everything else runs flawlessly
windows vs linux, any benchmarks?
sync option?
Anyone else running on Nobara Linux?
My graphics card is getting a bit old and i realize there is a performance cost to play on Linux, but even then the performance does not seem great.
Is anyone else experiencing just poor performance overall on Linux?
actually... just reading the comments above, it seems the answer is yes xD
what card do you have?
i'm on 1060, so it's above the minimum requirements atleast.
I'm mostly fine playing on low graphics settings, but the FPS goes down to 15-20 at times
I have a 1080 and the game runs super good.
are you using elemental spells?
yep
On my desktop I play with a 4070 and 3600X. And I play elemental sorc. Once the frames settle 2-3 minutes in, it stays at the 90 FPS limit I set at all times.
I never really play at full 144 FPS because I don't feel the need at 1440p. i don't see much of a difference at that high of a resolution.
try --waitforpreload
I spent almost an hour waiting for vulkan shaders this morning
Not gonna wait any longer.
I know I can skip. But I wanted to test.
those are in cache, you don;t have to render those again.
There was an update or something. I believe that is what triggered it
an hour for shaders, what cpu? p2?
Ryzen 3600X
So back in the day when you played the netcode/instance ran on the server independent of your connection to it. So if you were lagging out for any reason you could be dying to something and not realize it until the game caught back up with the connection to the server. So now the default networking mode is "lockstep" which ties the frame progression on the server to the frame progression on your local PC. So if like, you start lagging out, the game will start lagging out and not do anything to your character until it knows you're receiving packets
Yeah I know. But I wanted a second system first. So I can game in bed too.
I'm on an i7 7700k, no complaints here...
I don't know. My CPU fan didn't spin up or anything. I just spent the time watching a stream while waiting.
Just tried adding unShaderBackgroundProcessingThreads 12 to a steam_dev.cfg file. Someone mentioned it on Reddit
Speaking of shader cache before 2 released I was doing a bit of tidying up and PoE1's steam shader cache was over 102GB
Yeah I am
So I just reinstalled the game through Lutris instead of Steam and... no crashes here with Dx12 lol
I don't have FSR available though π€
So is this a toggle?
My experience has been very bad on Vulkan/DX11, while DX12 has much improved performance but crashes within the minute or so. I run on a Ryzen 9 3900X/ RX 5800 XT/32GB/Debian 12 system. I will try your recommendation with Lutris
anyone been able to get Vulkan working well?
on Steam/Nvidia
i still have a black screen from Vulkan
I still have a fps drops when a new enemy uses a skill, but I think that's missing shaders that get downloaded at that right moment. After the first drop it doesn't happen again, but it is annoying when fighting bosses the first time.
Good luck with Lutris!
Hey, i want to switch to linux because i am fed up with windows. Is PoE2 somewhat playable on Linux rn?
not everyone has the same result, a good place to check is protondb where linux people launching through steam report their experiences.
ahhh dang - you are right i totally forgot about protondb... yea im so pissed right now and didnt think about pdb - thanks!
I am very pissed as well π
Everyone has a different experience because everyone's pc is different and there are many linux distros which are all different. Generally if you stick to common hardware like intel/amd/nvidia and common distros like mint/ubuntu you should be fine. The vast majority of problems I've encountered with proton and even with wine before proton existed were just caused by missing libraries that usually could be easily installed from the repos.
It's simple. More complication is more likely to break. Gaming on linux is more likely to break than on windows. But gaming on gentoo with intel graphics is even more likely to break.
Yea i normally use linux for my other work - but i usually game on windows. And i just decided that i dont want to use windows anymore because it really pisses me off. I just install either mint/ubuntu and check for myself :D
I switched to mint a few years ago and havent looked back
other than working on a unity idle game that requires window transparency, i have to use a windows VM to test that cause it makes user32.dll calls, thats about the only hurdle ive really had
but yeah, check proton db to make sure your fav's run okay and if youre okay with it, give it a shot
Yes, I didn't really do anything, it just worked. Tuxedo OS/Nvidia/x11/steam/vulkan
works fine out of the box on arch(btw)6.12.3/nvidia-open 565.77/x11/steam/vulkan
Thank you! I think I'll give it a shot
Yeah. Works fine with LD_PRELOAD="" %command% and on Arch(btw)/nvidia 565.77/AMD CPU/Wayland/DX12. Once DX12 is set in the config.
Windows users seem to have crashes with AMD CPUs. Are we having the same issues?
I haven't experienced any issues with my old 3600X. But a lot of people with fancy X3D CPUs seem to experience freezes and crashes on Windows
Makes me suspect Windows power profiles. AMD's installed ones have a history of crashing games.
I have an X3D and im switching to linux in a couple of hours - i can send you a message if this isnt answered in a couple of hours
I would appreciate that.
Steamdeck works thanks!
have a weird bug where the game develops a ridiculously bad stutter after about 30-60 minutes of gameplay. Smooth as butter before that.
Do you have the steam overlay enabled?
nope
might be this problem then
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11446
in short: valve messed something up with the recent record feature and it's causing issues in games
oh, interesting. I will clear the LD_PRELOAD env then
current solutions are either to turn on the overlay, or put the LD_PRELOAD="" in front of the launch command like other people already posted before
I've tested both and either seems to work
also I still can't play under vulkan. DX12 works fine.
Nvidia hardware I assume?
well, can't play under vulkan with my 1080ti (secondary gpu). My RX560 (primary) can.
yes
I have a weird setup for gpu hotswapping
so that could be to blame
but haven't had this kind of issue before in other titles w/ vulkan passthrough
it's only been occuring since they released that game recording feature recently
on the vulkan nvidia issue?
oh, maybe I should try it again with that env variable set...
ah, no the vulkan nvidia issue has been there since the launch of the game I believe
Anyone else finding they can't switch tabs while holding alt on skills like rolling slam?
I am crashing within the minute in DX12 on a 3900X/RX5700XT/Debian 12 through Steam/Proton Experimental. DX11/Vulkan are seriously underperforming, making it unplayable
Hmm so It seems to be running fairly stable on Arch/3080/9800x3d. Using DX12 since the game would not even boot with Vulkan, not sure if it is related to me running on Wayland. Only real issue is ground textures are not loading properly in town
Try using the standalone launcher in Lutris, that worked for me and my specs are similar to yours. I'm on Debian 12 too with AMD.
Only thing im still trying to fix is to get FSR to work on the standalone, it's greyed out while on the steam version it works (but crashes occasionally)
how much fps do you get with vulcan, im legit getting 70/80 fps with decent textures on a office pc
but Im also using bottles
apparently vulkan not working on nvidia is common. I have the same problem, doesn't happen on my AMD card too.
Make sure you have all the vulkan packages installed if you're using Nvidia
its just broken
it seems like either some proton bug or an nvidia driver bug with poe2 doing something that is permitted on windows but not on the linux driver.
which is rare, since they should be almost entirely the same...
Im using Ryzen 5 5600 with Radeon 6700XT @ Ubuntu 24.04 - no crashes
DX12 works fine for me so I'm just using that
It wouldn't be a proton bug, because the Vulkan calls wouldn't go through proton/wine when using the Vulkan renderer directly
did anyone get HDR working yet? i cant tick it in poe even though i have it active in system settings in kde
Fedora 39, nvidia rtx 4080, i9 1380hx. Using repo steam, proton ge, and DX12 PoE2 runs fine. Vulkan gives a black screen at load up on PoE2 but works fine for other games, have not had an issue with DX12.
Im assuming its a Wayland/X11 version issue if anything. Since its not crashing on Steam Deck.
I am on wayland as well
I tried playing PoE on Debian 12 with X11 and I had the CPU latency thing back then too. But I also had crashes.
LTS when it comes to X11 and Wayland is real bad when it comes with long-term bugs.
yea i feel like rolling update distros are the play when gaming on linux. especially if you play newer games.
it could be something related to setting up the vulkan context
which proton does do some things for
possible
yeah you want recent kernels and drivers.
does filterblade's sync not work with linux
i never had any problems with it
it's just nvidia cards on linux not working with vulkan.
I'm leaning towards the nvidia linux driver being buggy. Again.
either way the difference in linux performance between vulkan and dx12 isn't that big.
havent tried dx11 yet but I assume its garbage
game also runs fairly well on some seriously old hardware
dx11 has problems of whats even possible to optimize. this causes stuttering in some situations
i get errors on the website when i try to sync
on the website? that should be between filterblade and poe api. your OS shouldnt matter
it's a high level rendering api that has been clearly grandfathered into the codebase from poe1, as poe1 predates dx12.
they also said its deprecated so it might go soon
yea. its good that they added "deprecated"
yeah like 2649649 errors when i try to make it
I have a feeling they are going to remove it fairly soon
I'm surprised they even maintained it
its still the default in poe1 for some reason even though it has far worse performance
that just means your filter is messed up. it seems like alot of stuff did break. would restart with a fresh filter and configure again
they have some tricks in poe1 to help rendering dispatch on dx11. They did a pretty good job with it back in the day, but dx12 is still performing far better.
there was a couple big optimization updates back when there was only 3 and 4 acts.
I think they were keeping the renderer just to keep older hardware in the mix until the graphical fidelity of poe2 got a lot better in recent years.
kinda unrelated but i found out that poe performance in linux is quite alot better than in windows in extreme situations like blight farming. seems to be related to how the resources are allocated. windows caused huge lag spikes but in linux only fps were lowered without lags
that's why I stopped gaming on windows
and i have seen the same issue on multiple pcs
I even have a full KVM passthrough setup and just stopped using the windows guest...
I just hotswap the gpu back to the host and play poe2 on there and its fine π
what do you use the windows for
now, just testing software I write
wine/proton isn't actually suitable for testing windows compatibility because there are a lot of instances where something will run on wine and won't run on windows
because wine has better backwards compat than windows itself
yea makes sense with how wine works
I was gaming on windows for a while but I've been very unhappy with the win10 userspace bloat and win11 is just completely unacceptable to me.
which is a shame because NT has come a long way over the years and has actually modernized as a kernel... but then whoever the fuck is responsible for UX and a bunch of other random garbage in windows userspace is making the whole experience awful.
have been using linux for almost 15 years now I think
newer Windows versions overhead is quite the throttle on CPU
the main problem are literally freezes for 1+ second in the situation i mentioned earlier. i dont think some overhead is enough to cause that.
thats why i mentioned it most likely being some underlying issue with how the OS manages resources
oh yeah I was just adding to the general idea that windows can be behind linux setups
kinda same. i mostly use linux now due to:
- far less bloat
- customization options
- its just simpler to setup and use as a dev
after comparing them directly by using dual boot the performance gain for pretty much every action is also a nice positive.
i still think that windows is the play for the "average gamer". its simpler to use and the majority of software was developed for it specifically.
solving software issues is very tedious if you arent interested in the underlying technology itself.
Biggest issues friends have had is their propriety software for controlling hardware doesnβt work and Microsoft 365/live/onedrive.
Also modern AAA games who arenβt interested in Linux and donβt enable Linux anti-cheat.
yea i have those problems too. software to change behavior of my mouse and keyboard dont run and playing tft are not possible in linux
also bump for my HDR question from earlier today
hey, did a random "igpu" search and came across ur post.
do u have some insights on if poe2 is playable with an igpu?
amd 7840u in my case
I mean... people have run it on the SteamDeck, does that count?
it has lower resolution ofc. but ye kinda counts xd
would love to play at least 1080p
is it just fine on wine?
Very low fps on steam version of POE 2, is this somehow related?
For example, 40 fps at a town no matter of settings
town fps can sink a lot depending on the amount of players and their MTX
compare with your hideout or combat area
I've been using Lutris with the standalone and no matter what I do settingswise there seems to be something that happens eventually that leads to; "2024/12/10 01:29:17 348373971 d5a32775 [CRIT Client 508] Failed to decompress (corrupted data)" .... I have a shit connection and apparently the Steam version doesn't download the 90GB Content.ggpk so I have to download it a second time on steam instead of just being able to copy standalone files over... but I will let you know how steam handles it. I did use the proton wine runtime through Lutris but steam could be doing something different.
I do have a steamdeck too but uhhh I might as well just finish downloading the client through steam on this computer and copy the files over because I'm not doing another download of the game
so the 9gb have to be downloaded in a single run?
im on a crappy connection as well
well like, the standalone just has a giant content.ggpk file that it uses, but when I was looking at steam downloading the game it doesn't download a content.ggpk and instead seems to be downloading the unpacked contents
and do i have to pay before downloading? :P
I didn't have to login before running the standalone installer
but as I said, getting it that way doesn't seem to have a straightforward way to use those files in the steam version of the client
how? im on the website and cannot find the download button lol
Which may or may not work better than Lutris is for me, I've got about 10gb left and I'm throttling it to 137kb/s down until I leave for work
man that was hard to find
then click the little windows thinger if you want the standalone installer
there is no linux installer
ah ye for sure. was just wondering if its actually on the website somewhere.
In combat area fps depends on number of enemies
But I set the lowest settings and my PC is Ryzen 5 3600 and RX 6700, I don't think it can't run the game in 60 fps
and its on... 90gb ...
yeah I wonder if there was a limitation in Steam or if Valve wasn't cool with distributing a single 93.0Β GB (93,006,722,401 bytes) file
Thanks @robust pumice this fixed it for me!
for me it shows 86GB tho
that was the size of my Content.ggpk from the standalone after it's done
yeah it's smart about that
since my internet is actually quite fine with speed, but just disconnects sometimes xd
makes me wonder if steam just can't handle huge files like that, or if it would make it difficult to partiually update without it being unpacked
no idea. i guess ggg got it figured out
so i guess i should be able to see the login screen and the settings before purchasing?
to get a general idea what the performance might look like
yep!
the settings menu is accessible on the main screen before you login
and the main menu does use the gpu to do the rendering
it's not like a static image, it's rendered geometry
ye, i remember having bad fps on poe1. thats years ago tho. when i still had a tower xd
I just tested with my Lutris standalone copy and you can get the FPS readout in the top right corner of the main menu when you press F1
think steam deck performance got worse. poe2
hows the framerate in the login screen vs the actual game?
i remember that in poe1 the login screen had rly bad performance.
deep down 30-20 login screen
town 30-20 to but in gameplay area have hard time stay up near 40
and laggy
ok, so slightly better in gameplay, but still not great :(
about 30+ in login screen. not sure if i should buy it ...
You mess with any of the settings? I take a huge hit in dx12 vs vulkan
Is a dedicated gfx card an option? I feel like at 30 youβre in for a rough time when you get some actual mobs on screen.
If you're getting 30fps max at the town, you're in for a rough time if you play summoner or with friends.
My pc is a beast and I can't play with my wife who plays summoner, I drop from 140fps to 30-45, but that's with Vulkan. I can't use Dx12 because some skill effects cause it to crash. And it sucks because FSR only works in Dx12...
As soon as there's more than 10-15 mobs in the screen, the resolution drops and you can't see shit, specially with fire or explosions
30fps is the absolute max i can get. with all settings optimized.
fsr works with vulkan for me tho.
im only in the loading screen, since i didnt buy the early access yet
FSR with Vulkan? How? It's greyed out for me π₯²
gpu?
RX 7900XT
its not for me.
difference to the default upscaler isnt huge in terms of performance tho.
the visuals are different, but i wouldnt say better or worse.
uff
but thats basically the main problem with poe since it started.
performance is insane on higher lvls or summoner builds
Well, thanks for letting me know. I'll see if I can make it work.
I get a weird error with Dx12 where the whole system freezes if I use an ice skill. Literally, it's like it's mocking me for using it.
"Ice skills are so strong your computer freezes too!"
:)
That happens for me with most skills on DX12. Vulkan works, but ice skills drop my fps from 100+ to 5-20 in fights. Fire skills also tank my fps, but not as bad (down to ~30). Lightning is fine for some reason. I have a 7700XT, so I'm thinking it might be an issue with Linux and AMD? My wife has the same problem with her 7600.
classic poe :)
i would absolutely love to see a "low budget gpu" version of poe with "vintage graphics".
will prolly never happen, but i can still dream.
I can't link anything in chat in poe2, is that just me or is that some linux issue for some reason?
I can link just fine in chat in PoE2 on Linux
hmm shit
do your CTRL and ALT work in PoE2 in other contexts?
alt for highlighting sockets, ctrl for switching to secondary skill shortcut bar?
pretty weird
Holy shit can't believe I didn't try this earlier. Just installed the latest AMD drivers from bookworm-backports (on Debian) and now those massive frame drops are gone. The game is finally playable!
Just kidding, I'll try after work
Thanks for the info!
works for me without issue. what could theoretically be (if game's key shortcuts are fine), that your wm/de has something assigned
On my laptop with nvidia 1650 Max-Q it runs better with FSR enabled than DLSS
I've had to modify $HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/poe2_production_Config.ini and set DirectX12 instead of vulkan to make it working with steam
it meanwhile feels like additional game content at every patch
just wondering: if i try different resolutions.
how do i basically get 30fps on 4k and 60fps on 1080p?
shouldnt it be more like 4x the fps?
by the way Steam is doing something magical that Lutris is not doing, so if you're having problems go with steam and not the standalone
No client crashing due to corrupted data any more.
I assume the Proton Hotfix has something to do with that, but selecting it as the runner in Lutris was not helping
you're not gonna tell him about pixel fill rate?
;P
ye its fine.
absolute max with fsr upscaling to the max is 60fps on fhd
in the login screen
just out of curiousity:
if i wanted to get an egpu for a 7840u laptop.
is that somehow feasible to play 4k with soemthing like that? xd
That video recently Asmon covered that another dev did about why Unreal Engine's Temporal Anti-Aliasing sucks ass was a really good watch if you wanna hear about the inner workings of today's game engines.
ah ye, thats out of scope atm.
would just be interested if egpu setups are good enough for 4k gaming at all
the what exactly and how to get it to run comes after.
just in theory.
yes i do.
its more about if that can even do gpus powerful enough.
just imagine a world where the outside factors just work.
i know the whole chain needs to support it.
but in general: are the enclosures and gpus in it worth it to consider for 4k or not?
im quite fine with tech in general. just out of the gaming and gpu stuff for years :P
60-120
sure. 4k@30 i can do on my igpu right now
usb 3.2 can use up to 4 PCIe lanes I think
im pretty sure tb4/usb4 speeds are the limit here.
and i guess there are no tb5 enclosures yet?
and laptops are also not out or fairly limited i guess
if your use case is going to be pcie traffic heavy then it's ehhh, but if it's something that doesn't use a lot of PCIE traffic like running large language AI models you can get away with more
any luck getting this going on Steamdeck yet? Mine crashes soon as I login, do I need specific proton layer?
all info i'm seeing so far ppl are just 'playing' with it might moonlight it to get performance up but still haven't figured out how to launch
you might need to edit the game's config file and change it from vulkan to direct x12. I had problems playing it until I did that on Nobara. I bet the steam deck doesn't like it either.
I have it installed on a seperate SSD so I have to do this every restart. Thankfully beefy pc so it doesn't take long
has anyone ever figured out how to make it so the ingame clock uses the correct timezone? mine is always in UTC
both for poe1 and 2
Steam deck has been working totally find for me all they way up until Act 3. Chimeral Wetlands is the first unplayable area, my deck sits around 12 fps
Do you have steam installed via flatpak? I know mine was in UTC when I had steam installed via that rather than the direct .deb method (something about sandbox environments and their ilk)
yeah
iirc on my other computer i have it as native and it doesn't have the issue
so that checks out
I think there's a way to toy with the container that flatpak runs in (idk, never ventured down that path). Something to do with the config settings or something ... It threw me for a loop when I wanted to expose another drive to the container and I was like "why am I doing this, I'll just install via the .deb"
yeah fair
btw, hows linux gaming (wine/proton) vs windows these days in general?
not compatibility. just raw fps.
i know my way around. i was just not gaming for several years and didnt keep track.
I don't have a windows to compare to but I've seen some people with both say the windows overhead + DirectX inefficiency caps out the system on CPU for them while Linux doesn't, in the context of PoE2.
Personally however I play quite a bit of early access titles in general and there are never any issues in terms of fps
the compatibility layer seems to be less of a burden compared to windows overheads, especially in case of win11
steamdeck boosting proton helped out with that a ton
thanks a lot. so basically a nonissue when familiar with linux. :)
yeah usually you just check the tickbox to run a game via proton and that's the extent of your tinkering
ye, it feels too easy almost these days
indeed. I played since the 2000s on linux, at that time with winex/cedega (that was a non-free wine fork/transgaming). It was a rough time.. even after steam appeared, but it worked with enough tweaking. gaming on linux made the real push with the release of proton. that's maybe why I take the shader compilation with a smile π
anyone have by any chance a spar key? i dont have eanogh money
This server isn't the place to ask for handouts. Also, the game will be free on full release
will be free, with extra content and more stable all at the same time, pretty insane
as for keys you can go try to fish on poe2 reddit instead
the game crashed on windows, so I checked it out on linux (Pop_OS), it worked pretty well yestarday with no crashes but today, after the patch, game is unplayable crashing every 2 minutes. Anyone have any ideas what could help?
uhhh, okay so how were you running it on Linux? and what does the Client log say at the very end?
Steam works better to run it in Linux as opposed to Wine or some of the frontends (Lutris)
for me in Lutris client log is in /home/user/Games/yourLutrisgamename/drive_c/program files (x86)/Grinding Gear Games/Path of Exile 2, uhh in Steam it would be something like.....
./home/user/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Path of Exile 2/logs
i used steam and proton experimental, there wasn't anything unusual in logs, the only thing that was wrong was
[CRIT Client 436] File Not Found: Metadata/Effects/Microtransactions/Flasks/LightningInABottle/EPKs/characterFX.epk. Using fallback EPK file
btw, are there still key giveaways somewhere?
dont rly wanna buy to figure out my gpu is not strong enough. but would love to give it a shot.
howdy, is anyone else experiencing random fps drops after 50 mins or so? POE1 runs perfectly on proton experimental otherwise (xwayland, amd gpu)
yeah that happens kinda often, I think someone had some sort of fix but I just restart client
is poe2 just way more demanding than poe1?
with kinda the same trash graphics i get 60fps on poe2 and like 150-200fps on poe1.
yeah I just restart client too
If you experience random fps drops after playing for 30-50 minutes, make sure you enable Steam overlay or add LD_PRELOAD="" to your launch options (see here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11446)
hmm that might be it, seems like it's loading some weird stuff by default and we have to override it
thanks I will test it
LD_PRELOAD="" %command% --waitforpreload --noasync
I temporarily solve my Vulkan problem with a black screen in PoE2 (Flatpak Steam) by logging into X11 in Plasma. If anyone has an idea on how to choose Vulkan in Wayland without getting a black screen on Nvidia, please let me know. Currently, I get the best performance with Vulkan, and another plus side is that I can skip Steam shader compiling
nvidia on wayland is a nightmare tbh, it feels like install the old flgrx drivers for ATI
have you tried different versions of the driver? I switched recently to AMD but I was able to play WoW on nvidia on wayland by upgrading to the then beta drivers
this was around a year ago
So this just started today: every second or so, my character goes blurry and freezes for a split second. Not seeing any network issues. Was working just fine yesterday. On steam deck. Anyone? Super frustrating and unplayable.
Is that auto-graphics-whatever thing turned off?
Ive been on mint a few years. had some weird shit like that happen on here. Just copied it to the deck today (thank god for that lan transfer thing, i live where the road overhangs the bush), but havent had a chance to really test the deck itself
have you tried yelling at it or percussive maintenance?
Why do I need to do this with every start?
so that your game stutters less while you play
you can also make your steam do this for you while it is idle
I never understand why some games do that and why some, is there a toggle for that? e.g: satisfactory does, dyson sphere program and poe2 doesnt
and im using the vulkan render lol, I never thought about it
There is an option to turn off pre-caching globally, but not per game I think
I used to have that problem playing dota2 with the constant shaders processing, I fixed it by not playing dota anymore lol
I decided to turn it off entirely, because every time I started for example Warframe it was processing GBs of new shaders
warframe is a horrendous outlier
the fix for it for me was to make a separate library for just the warframe and disconnect it from steam when I dont play it
π
so that the other titles could properly process shaders
Valve needs to fix their pre-caching strategy
I've seen so many Steam Deck users complain about it
Warframe has 30GB of shaders stored... that's half of the install size
yes, it's the worst offender I've ever seen
Is anyone experiencing random crashed with PoE2?
Switching to DX12 fixed it with first patch, but now both DX12 and Vulkan give me crashes
Running full AMD build so it's not an Nvidia thing
no crashes so far
Also, this should be pinned, or hell should even be disclosed by Steam. Took me like a week to figure this one out
It's been working perfectly fine on my machine and haven't had a single hitch after launch day. I have it installed via steam (Proton Experimental and LD_PRELOAD="" %command% as the custom load which got rid of stuttering that'd show up after 30m or so of playtime).
However, I've noticed that when I play with a controller the game runs like 25-30% better/smoother (in terms of FPS).
LD=PRELOAD / Steam Overlay, aye that is a general steam issue currently
But I don't get frequent crashes with other titles. What proton are you running?
hey, can you maybe add some context in the message just to make it easier to understand what it is about when pinned?
just a simple sentence like "if you experience xxx try this"
sometimes the game randomly crashes when i tab out, is that a linux/everyone/me problem?
not crashes, but freezes completely. sound is still there but i have to kill it and start it up again
i havent encountered that issue yet
could be hyprland too where "tab out" is switching to another workspace
Sounds very likely, considering that Hyprland had issues with XWayland in the past
It is working fine on Plasma 6 on wayland
Haven't had that
Somehow my poe1 steam shadercache got to 102gb in settlers
i think like half of my dota install is the precache for all the immortal effects lol
thank god they fixed the thing where your game performance got totally nuked by your armory contents
I think I only install dota to watch the TI on the client as you can watch the player's POV, it's like watching formula 1 from the driver's POV
but other than that yeah ut was always precaching
Would anyone be interested in a Linux guild in-game?
Are your drivers up-to-date? On Debian I had to install the latest ones from backports instead of the default repo and that fixed all my performance issues.
I finally fixed the black screen Vulkan problem in Path of Exile 2! And the best part is, you can still use Vulkan and don't have to switch to Direct12. So, here's a guide I made, hoping it helps someone else facing the same issue. The fix requires setting the game to borderless fullscreen window mode and then subtracting one pixel from your main display resolution.
Important Note: You'll need to reapply these steps if you change display settings within the game itself, as it will overwrite the changes.
Steps:
-
Locate the Configuration File:
- Navigate to your Path of Exile 2 game directory.
- (~/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/)
- Find and open the file named
poe2_production_Config.iniusing a text editor.
- Navigate to your Path of Exile 2 game directory.
-
Modify Graphics Settings:
- Change Renderer: Find the line
renderer_type=. If it says anything other thanVulkan, change it torenderer_type=Vulkan. - Adjust Resolution:
- Locate the lines
resolution_width=andresolution_height=. - Subtract one from each of their values.
- For example, if your original resolution was 1920x1080, your new values should be:
resolution_width=1919resolution_height=1079
- Locate the lines
- Set Fullscreen Mode: Change
fullscreen=tofullscreen=false. - Set Window Maximization: Change
maximize_window=tomaximize_window=true. - Enable Borderless Fullscreen: Change
borderless_windowed_fullscreen=toborderless_windowed_fullscreen=true.
- Change Renderer: Find the line
-
Save and Launch:
Great work and well written, I'm sure this will help a lot of Nvidia users
It's weird, switching to Vulkan has resolved the issye now.
Regarding the guild, please add me on PoE2 and I'll drop the invite, my name is KinkyMercyTheMerc
No tabs as of this moment, but I'll be buying the $480 pack as soon as I can π
how's perfomance on vulkan compared to dx12?
seems like it works for enough ppl and its a simple steam boot parameter anyway
Thanks!
very similar
there's one graphical bug I get on my nvidia card on dx12 that doesn't happen in vulkan
in my tests with Lutris on a 12GB 3060; DX12 is unplayable compared to Vulkan, haven't tried or needed it with Steam's WINE runner though.
ty, might give it a try in steam then
Apologies for the late reply. I'm running the game on a Nvidia 1080 Ti graphics card with a 5600X CPU. Here are my performance results...
Windows (DX12): 120 FPS
Linux (DX12): 78 FPS
Windows (Vulkan): 105 FPS
Linux (Vulkan): 102 FPS"
Is that average FPS or minimum?
What, mine are way worse i think. Only tried dx12 on a 3070 mobile, gotta try vulkan
I tested it when the character was standing still at a waypoint in the game.
My minion build is probably not doing the fps any favors too.. π¬
Hehe, yeah, I've heard minion can be an FPS killer
Anyone elses game freezing when tabbing out in Vulkan renderer?
nope
Vulkan issues seem to be associated with certain types of setups, so it might help your query if you provide some more info on your drivers, graphics platform etc
Has anyone seen an issue with PoE 2 where the game runs perfectly smooth (144 FPS for me) for about 40 minutes or so and then the GPU utilization drops out from about 90% or so down to 60% or less and the FPS drops and the game performance is extremely choppy? Simply restarting the game makes it run great for another 40 minutes but it's annoying to have to keep restarting the game every 40 minutes.
Yep, let me grab what I did ...
There's a pinned message about that
Oh yep I see that. Thanks for the heads up I appreciate it.
Nvidia 2080 TI, GNOME 47.1 (Wayland), Kernel 6.12.3
It doesn't seem to like this. It will run if I get rid of the equal sign and the quotes, but not sure if that fixes the issue yet.
You need to have LD_PRELOAD="" %command%
Otherwise steam will pass it as a command line argument to the PoE executable which is why it fails.
I see... so that way Steam interprets the command and not the Path of Exile executable
Yes exactly.
Has anyone had issues with crashing during Trials of Chaos? Pretty much every time I reach the second room it crashes and kicks me out. I was able to pass that and get to the boss but second/third/fourth time around it crashes, making it uncompletable π€
I'd be laughing if it's one of the poe1 ultimatum crashes resurfacing in some obscure way
I only had one crash in all my time on poe2 now and it happened in ultimatum Trials of Chaos but that's only one case so far so can't say π€·ββοΈ
I've had the same experience so far, maybe one or two crashes in 60 hours.
I crashed in Trial of Chaos the 5 times I attempted it. Four in the soul core fetch quest room and once on a boss.
can we name it "chmod 777 /" ?
but yeah a guild for linux users where we can find other linux players would be useful
i managed to get it work through standalone client, not Steam
fonts/margins need a bit more love π
how exactly did you set it up?
[Steam Deck] performance is rough in Hunting Grounds, without dynamic resolution it drops from 40 fps to 25
in heroic standalone launcher with GE-Proton920
Was anyone able to get either exiled exchange or sidekick running?
https://sidekick-poe.github.io/
https://kvan7.github.io/Exiled-Exchange-2/
I'm having trouble getting these to run with lutris and GEProton 20
App for price-checking items in Path of Exile 2
So, figured out all you have to do is run the game in windowed, then fullscreen using KDE while Vulkan is set. Works.
Also, delete your cache in /appdata/roaming/poe2 and disable shader cache.
Went from 20-40FPS consistently to 120FPS out of battle, 90 in battle, and around 45-50 in town during peak.
This fixed all my issues. Added LDPRELOAD to the launch options and set steam overlay to ENABLED. Prevents a weird memory leak.
This fixed all my issues. Nothing else has worked.
nvidia or amd?
nvidia on wayland
Once the shaders load its pretty smooth. I do notice about 20fps drops with a lot of fire effects specifically. Especially SRS, but otherwise its night and day difference. Old CPU here too. 7700K and 3060 Ti.
my steam overlay stops working when i set LD_PRELOAD, is that intended?
alright so has anyone gotten Sidekick working yet?
yeah I can't get vulkan running in fullscreen without the game ever freezing on me. Setting to fullscreen via kwin just immediately hangs the game.
only thing that works is just hiding the bar and maximizing
it's some sort of wayland issue on nvidia for direct compositing IIRC
if I had to guess, it's Nvidia reflex trying to do something?
I believe so yes. If you want to use the overlay don't set it (that will still fix the 30-50 minute lag issue).
reason why i'm back to Windows for now
shared NTFS partition for games
can switch at any time
yea I can switch anytime
true but I was just sharing a way to make switching more seamless, have heard of people redownloading games on windows
got screwed by sharing NTFS once, broke the partition or something
have enough storage to redownload π
Vulkan 1.4, pretty solid performance increase. i have POE2 on both my windows and linux installs, linux cpu/gpu render times were like an additional 7ms... but now with vkd3d1.4 its basically identical render times compared to my windows install! amazing
that version popped up in the AUR over the last day or two? havent been playing POE2 or updating over the weekend but glad to see it
I was able to get exiled exchange working. You just have to compile it yourself. There's instructions on how to do it on the repo.
Will check it out later tonight
There's also an open issue where they're discussing putting an app image in the releases so maybe just wait till they do it.
This is so nice and impressive.
well i did a map earlier, tinnnnyyy bit of stutter, tiny bit of extra frame render time... but basically i dont feel any need to boot back to windows for poe2 at least, doubt i would even know there's an issue if i didnt have a windows install to compare it to
I dont notice issues other than when I have a billion particles on my screen lol
Yeah I mean the game has definitely been very playable, was a bit of a bummer when switching to windows and seeing the performance difference. But pretty damn negligible at this point. I had remembered a yt video from Brodi talking about the arms race of devs to get Vulkan 1.4 out first lol so was glad to finally see it pop up on my system
I'm just glad I have no reason to boot back over to windows at this point
Yeah nah, i got two chars level 70+ so its been great
Anyone got the same issue as me ? I tried GeForce now on kubuntu but keyboard input are detected only for a few keys
I downloaded Steam Vulkan version, but the quality is sooooo poor, I'm so Sad that i can't use GFN
Why do you want Geforce Now? nvm I was thinking Geforce Experience
Have you tried this tool? https://github.com/hmlendea/gfn-electron
I've been playing through steam, is there a standalone client?
There is. You just have to run it through something like Wine, Lutris, Bottles, etc.
Could probably add standalone to steam as non-steam game and use proton just as easily
Runs like a dream through Steam with renderer set to DX12. I'm running ProtonGE 9-20 FWIW
I'm using vulkan because I've historically gotten better performance with it. This way proton (dxvk) doesn't need to translate directx calls to vulkan. Has this changed or is dx12 translation so optimized that the gap is closing?
It will vary a lot depending on your GPU and drivers. Some people will find better performance with one or the other
Yes I tried but same result, as far as I found on web, it's related to kde desktop and plasma but I'm not sure
Are you on X11 or Wayland?
Fun fact : I installed a Windows 11 VM with atlasOs, and it works hahaha
Wayland because I upgraded to 24.10
Plasma 6
In general Wayland is not that bad with plasma 6 on kubuntu 24.10, but I lost some feature in comparison to X11. But I won some performance in graphical processing
I'm just thinking that it may be having issues recognizing your keyboard input because you're on Wayland. Just a theory though
Yeah I think this is the issue
But not that much posts on the web about this
I think 24.10 is too early for the community
That's so sad cause it worked like charm on X11 when I was in 23.10
Disclaimer: I play a limited set of games and have a single system to test with. It's likely that this is different for others.
I certainly feel like the gap is closed if not inverted. I almost universally get better perf from dx11/dx12 than running vulkan directly Even if the perf was worse, I would still prefer dxvk over vulkan for nothing other than stability. PoE2 won't even run with the Vulkan renderer for me at all, and I had the same issue with PoE1, among other games.
I have attributed it to most (if not all) game devs focusing more heavily on DX since the vast majority of players use Windows.
If it helps, I'm running Arch with Hyprland, a 4090 with nvidia-open drivers (go ahead, shame me), and generally leave things default in Steam other than using a recent ProtonGE if the game has issues.
Better in what sense?
Steam is 'easier', id just try that out first since its quick and simple to install. doesnt work well, then try Lutris
Like which one patches better etc
I havenβt played in a long time but i remember standalone was recommended on windows
Steam on linux is leaps and bounds better than it was just a couple years ago, because of all the Steam Deck stuff. and can easily switch proton versions from steam if needed.
POE2 on linux running basically identically to my windows install at this point
Nice π
update your system if you can, i noticed a bit of a performance bump when it installed Vulkan 1.4 this week
Ok, I just built it last night so itβs probably up to date
I'm also running arch with a 3090ti. It's odd to hear that it hasn't ran for you with vulkan considering we have similar os and gpu. Works for me just fine. I also usually leave things default unless there's a problem to fix. Poe2 has required no fixing or configuration at all so far. It just worked.
holy shader compilation
12 cores cranking for 5 min now and still 19%
props for making it thorough
Is there an easy way to check item prices on linux, like how they have overwolf for windows? I'll take manually putting the info into a browser at this point. Shifting through trade is a bit of a nightmare
For poe1 you can use awakened poe trade on Linux. For poe2 I don't know of any mature tools yet
Thanks fingers crossed for POE2. I've basically fully shifted now
anyone stuck on loading screen?
I think servers are down for patch rn
Rn server
yeah looks like server issues rn
looks like a patch hit
I expected to at least get to the login screen
had to switch to dx12
That is a thing
though switching to vulkan in-game works
The appimage is released now
You can run Sidekick on linux in dev mode for now, there are instructions on the discord. The code is crossplatform except for the interface, 90% there let's say.
Thank you!
https://github.com/Kvan7/Exiled-Exchange-2
they just released Linux version
Ayyyy
does anyone else facing weird artifacts in game when mangohud is enabled?
is this one working for you guys? it seems to just hide my game behind a transparent page on hyprland, showing my blurred wallpaper :(
I kinda got it running but the app is super early alpha that nearly 90% of it is still in poe1
I did get it to pricecheck and at least it output 1ex like I was expecting, and spearheading a project this big in beta is going to move slow
ye is pretty alpha, capturing psuedo stats now and trade2 site doesn't support it
They might add pseudo in the trade eventually. I think they were manually added.
I've been experiencing a weird issue since the most recent patch, when I pull a large number of enemies my network latency goes from 19 - 20 up to 50 - 60. Has anyway seen anything like that?
It could be server side, some bug reports of server lag on the forums. Just thought I'd ask if anyone on linux had seen anything similar.
anyone know how to paste in neversink filter in linux?
figured it out. you can paste directly from linux downloads into the windows folder. just refresh and you'll be able to select in game.
compat data
~/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/
If you want an easy way to grab it, I wrote up a quick script that grabs latest filter and writes it directly to the PoE2 folder. It's also configurable so you can use it for a different filter, or if your PoE2 pfx is somewhere other than ~/.local/share/.... etc
Note: You still need to select/reload it in game, but this shortcuts the need to download/copy/clone and move it yourself.
#! /bin/bash
# If your PoE2 wine pfx is located elsewhere, update accordingly.
POE2_DIR="<YOUR_HOME_DIRECTORY>/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2"
# Change if you prefer another filter that has a direct raw download available.
FILTER_URL='https://raw.githubusercontent.com/NeverSinkDev/NeverSink-PoE2litefilter/refs/heads/main/NeverSinks%20Litefilter.filter'
FILE_NAME='NeverSinksLite.filter'
curl "$FILTER_URL" -o "$POE2_DIR"/"$FILE_NAME"
You can set your Steam launch options to run it before the game launches every time: /path/to/script.sh & %command%
When i play this game. Especially in big groups. My graphics become pixelated. Is this just related to the game? or just due to my GPU VRM maybe running low during fights? i never seen anything like it before.
does anyone have an issue with poe2 on linux where videos play an extremely deafening screeching sound in the background?
it happens to me with the intro video of GGG, and also, for example, when I go to craft a skill gem and it plays the video of the skill
found part of the issue? there's an extra audio app playing when there's a video (with the loud screeching noise)
has no one seen this before?
so i just muted that audio source but it seems to reset (for some reason)
That would be the "Dynamic Resolution" option. It scales down the resolution to try and keep the "Target Framerate" under "Advanced Settings". You can turn it off or try setting a lower target framerate.
I actually came back to report, that i got it fixed. You were correct. That was the problem.
thanks
yes. doesnβt happen for me at the ggg logo but does happen in the skill screen. it also happens during the between-act FMVs.
it doesnβt respect volume settings in either pipewire or in the game itself, so iβm guessing it might be some interaction sending invalid audio data
I had this problem in POE1 during the campaign too, when thereβs a full motion video that plays halfwayish through
iirc default proton has issues with media codecs or whatever. try enabling shader precaching or using proton-ge.
although considering it's a separate audio source i don't think this would be the case
Interesting! Never experienced it myself playing poe1.
just tried with both and no luck π’
Hey guys, anyone experiencing black screen and Poe instant quick ?
I edited .local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My\ Games/Path\ of\ Exile\ 2/poe2_production_Config.ini to switch to DirectX12 but same issue
It was working before the last patch
:/
Well, turns out that switching from Wayland to X11 made GeForce now key lock working
On kubuntu
thank you I'm using this and it works like a charm!
Glad it could help! π
based curler
another weird thing about this is that it only happens after a certain time playing (and only sometimes during the intro), i don't know if there's an specific interaction that's triggering it or just something random happening in the background
does it also play the correct audio? or is that replaced by the screech?
also iirc there's been some issues with the steam overlay recently related to the library that steam preloads for the game. try prepending LD_PRELOAD="" to your launch options so it doesn't load that library.
e.g., LD_PRELOAD="" gamemoderun %command% (it needs to be the very first thing since other wrappers like gamemode often function by setting LD_PRELOAD)
(the exact issue i'm familiar with is that, after a certain time playing, the game stutters whenever there's mouse movement. maybe it's exhibiting itself a bit differently in poe's engine)
maybe not Linux specific question but, does Steam Deack best option for play POE without Windows desktop? I'm trying to find any option other than build a whole PC and rise my electricity bill π«
iirc neversink tried it on the steam deck and had a good time
the graphics aren't great, but it plays well
I got asked like 20 times on how poe2 runs on stream deck.
Summary:
- combat controls: amazing with one caveat. Tons of work put in clearly
- other controls: ok
- graphics, on low graphics it runs acceptable. It doesn't look too fancy, but gets the job done at 30-45fps
1/4
it plays both the audio of the video and the screench
huh ok. that's weird
i did try this, thank you but it didn't work ty anyways π
yeah i'm all out of ideas rn. i'll let you know if i come up with anything else
sure thing! i really appreciate it π
so Steam Deck is indeed a best option? hmm thanks for the info
idk if it's the best option, but it seems like a good one
also if you are willing to wait, apparently new handheld "consoles" will be released next year with SteamOS in partnership with Valve
which may have better performance than the steamdeck
yeah the steamdeck is a bit old now; newer chips probably have better ppw
Wasnβt happy how poe2 performs in steam deck. I rather stream it from my PC, even tried it today when I was out, wireguard back home and did a few maps without dying
consoles? okay i will google it, thanks.
Am I doing something wrong that I have to do the shaders all the time?
Thought it ran them once in a while only
disable this
How bad is it if I don't process them though?
i didnt notice any difference but i have a pretty strong cpu. i guess that it compiles shaders while playing
AH it goes in the background gotcha
Am running two intel xeons, probably fine then?
hard to say without knowing the exact model
its not a great gaming cpu but should be good enough i guess? time to try
I've found performance to be relatively similar to poe1, so if that works then this should work as well.
guys is there some config i need to change or something? the game takes years to load and once i'm in, all the skill animations, enemies etc are not loaded yet and the game runs very bad. Is this a cpu problem or?
Check your ram usage. Maybe the resources are getting swapped out?
Did you interrupt/disable shader pre-caching?
i have it disabled
iβll check tomorrow, but i think the ram was ok. Only the cpu was like on 90% usage
Have you tried with shader pre-caching enabled?
yeah, it took like 2 hours but the problem was still there
Is it the same on dx12/vulkan? I had that problem for a few mins when i started the game on dx12 but not on vulkan
Can somone recommend a trading overlay for poe 2 running in Linux?
Thanks β€οΈ
Vulkan always gives me a black freezing screen, so I have to manually change it on the config.
Try to set it to vulkan and change resolution in the config file to 1pixel less than your actual resolution, that worked for me
just tried and it actually starts the game, but the laoding is still taking ages
9gb used out of 6gb
I'm having trouble with low FPS in poe2, when I start delirium, ultimatum or breach for example. Frames drop to the ocean floor, then after several seconds, they kinda stabilize. I have nvidia 3080ti on Garuda linux. All setting on low, except texture details, those are max. should I enable/disable anything specific to improve this?
a couple things you can try
- try a different renderer
- enable dynmic culling
- enable triple buffering
- vsync either adaptive or off. locked is bad for fps if you cant hold the target frame rate consistently
also if you press F1, is your gpu or your cpu frame time the problem?
ty, I'll test this now
hey so am i doing something wrong here? my frame rate is perfectly fine until i play about an hour, i tried doing the launch option here but i get this error when i launch the game:
The shader slider is visibly going off
You need to wait for them to process
Shader pre-caching might help
ok
I get that too when they spawn in Ultimatum, and in my case it's shader processing slowing things down. Once it's done it's back to normal fps
your graphs and stabilizing fps point to issues with shaders. it might happen for a while after switching shaders.
what cpu do you got and what kind of drive are your OS and your poe on?
ok I confirm I also have the shaders bar at the max every time I load up.. I'll try to pre-compile them again
Idk why, but I'll play the PoE2 for 12h without crashing once, and then I'll have a period of a few hours where it crashes like 20 times every 5-15 minutes
Rebooting changes nothing
Switching Proton version changes nothing
the game was running flawlessly, then yesterday the enemies started all looking glitchy, I thought I was having a linux compatibility problem thing, glad I found this page XD https://www.reddit.com/r/PathOfExile2/comments/1haowx5/weird_graphical_artifacts_on_monsters_moving/?rdt=34844
I get the same thing, but I've had pre-caching on forever. 5800X and a 4090 and I still hit single digit fps when delirium pops
how does your launch options look in steam game properties?
that is so weird but i'm glad it works for you π i'll keep it in mind, thank you
yeah i have genuinely no idea why that fixes it
but the framerate issue deosnt happen anymore and the command doesnt crash my game on launch
it was a "if this works im going to kill someone" moment for sure
Weirdly I have no problems at all running via steam Proton experimental. Using Vulkan Oo
Thatβs due to steam changing ld path to include their bs hooks for recording games and itβs full of memory leaks.
^ as above, steam has a new Replay feature which continuously records the game, even while disabled, for whatever reason this turns the overlay into a timebomb that eventually makes all cpu cycles take 50ms
both through proton, and native, dota's console prints errors every frame about SDL taking 50.0ms, f1 in poe1/2 shows 50ms for cpu time
LD_PRELOAD="" just makes the overlay not load
so no shift+tab
it does also mean you need to remove LD_PRELOAD="" if you intend to use poe's mtx shop
just to clarify, i think me and divine were talking about LD_PRELOAD=" " working for him and LD_PRELOAD="" crashing his game, but that's very informative @outer pagoda
and also very strange because i use the recording feature and i've had poe2 open for like 10 hours and my cpu is at 10ms
i think its a bizarre symptom of the overlay doing something else with replays
like it's constantly trying to hook in despite replay being disabled
certainly a bug then
its a pretty old one, i've had it since replay came out
surprised they havent worked it out & patched it
So I tried running exile poe2 trade overlay but it just doesn't work. Probably because it doesn't regocnize the poe window since it's running in his own wine instance. Does someone have it running? Maybe put both poe and overlay into bottles?
which trade overlay are you talking about?
if you are talking about exiled exchange 2 you have to download the appimage not the exe
started happenning to me now
incredibly annoying trying to do 4th lab
Are you running poe2 via steam Proton?
Yep... it's so random
I'm inclined to believe it's server-side
Cause I'll play for 12h with not a single crash
Then get crashes every 5 minutes
Few hours like that, everything working fine
afaik it works by detecting the item in your clipboard, regardless of where poe itself is.
I want to get a new monitor for my linux gaming rig, currently on an RTX4090 and playing through steam. I know there is a good bit of display tech like Gsync freesync and so on, curious if poe2 supports them all. On my primary workstation I have a large wide aspect ratio monitor but POE felt like it just kinda zoomed in more, didn't really feel like I had more viewing area really.
Can you get more viewing area with more resolution in poe? What aspect ratios / resolutions provide this, if any?
yeah, if you downloaded the appimage thats the file for linux, you don't have to run anything on wine other than the game
are you using the standalone client? i'd have to test if that's the case
I try out the app image
sweet let me know if it works π
Does that mod that makes your dropsβ name colorful and bigger work on Linux?
I wanted to install it on my steamdeck
you mean the loot filter?
it's just a file that goes in the config folder, not a mod, so yes
there are instructions for linux on the official github page https://github.com/NeverSinkDev/NeverSink-PoE2litefilter
fox091 also made a script if you want to keep it up to date
Thank you!
its working, even with i3wm (that part is tricky as hell xD)
awesome π
sometimes i hate that window manager with games xD
because the trade overlay tries to force to be in the foreground but windowmanager says no
i wonder if it works on sway
i was going to try it but i gave up packaging it for nix. should probably just use the appimage
ok switched to wayland plasma for test. Flawless also better for gamign stations π
x11 sucks if more than one monitor
You got the overlay working under Wayland? I can't seem to get it to work in Hyprland, so I just run with --no-overlay and use the browser view.
Yeah but Wayland without tiling manager. The tiling manager is problematic since the overlay tries to force itself to the foreground and that didn't work for me
The no-overlay option is cool too didn't know it existed π
Ahh, that makes sense. I noticed it always pops the window out of fullscreen. I'll die before I switch from a tiling WM, so no-overlay will have to do for now lol
yeah tiling manager is the goat
finally got around to making a nix package for exiled-exchange-2. i'll make it public soonβ’οΈ
How did you get this performance chart to show up?
Press F1
I have shader pre-caching update literally every single day followed by an hour long shader processing. Any way to fix that without disabling this feature? Only PoE2 has this problem
no other options, just disable it and forget
Yeah, waiting for valve to fix it
huh, I have a 7950 but not the 3d one and I don't recall ever seeing it mention shaders in passing
i have a 3900x and it can take several minutes, so i can only imagine how long it would take for someone with a lower end cpu (or an older one)
Shader processing happens on GPU, not CPU though right?
Huh, never would have guessed. Neat!
Makes sense. Just had to do a bit of reading and educate myself. Thanks!
just some additional things that are useful to know. GPUs are very good at simple* calculations and calculations that can be parallelized well.
they are absurdly fast at the calculations they are designed for, like crunching the same computations for thousands of pixels in parallel when rendering an image.
simple calculations means tasks that dont involve alot of conditions and complex logic. (shader) code compilation is a good example for more complex calculations. CPUs are much better at those.
While I appreciate you trying to be helpful, I don't need an in-depth explainer. I've been in software development for nearly 10 years. and I'm very familiar with these concepts π
I just didn't know shader pre-comp happens on CPU π€·ββοΈ
well, i hope that at least someone else gets something out of my message then
USE VULKAN
If you are getting terrible FPS with DX12 or your system is a bit older, this should drastically improve your FPS and Stability.
-
Most importantly you MUST run in windowed mode at the start.
-
Head to
/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/ -
Open
"poe2_production_Config.ini -
You want your .ini to look like this, with width/height being your own.
resolution_width=1920
resolution_height=1080
renderer_type=Vulkan
fullscreen=false
maximize_window=false
borderless_windowed_fullscreen=false
Save and exit
-
When you launch the game wait for the gears to stop and the POE2 logo to appear.
-
Right click POE2 in taskbar > More > Fullscreen inside KDE. (Or your fullscreen macro.)
-
Enable FSR if you want, and done.
This will allow you to go fullscreen without it crashing rendering with Vulkan.
YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY TIME.
TURN OFF PRECACHING AND WIPE CACHE
-
Turn off Precaching inside steam options. Steam > Settings > Downloads (bottom) > Disable Shader Pre-Caching
-
This will vary from machine to machine, but find your POE2 Cache. Mine was located in Appdata inside the PFX folder for POE2. Clear that out, then launch the game.
-
This will take some hours to build, so expect lagging at first, but press F1 on your keyboard to bring up the overlay in game and wait for the shaders bar to finish moving and give it a shot.
After doing this, i went from 15-20 fps with constant spikes and crashes to 100 FPS with 0 issues on an i7-7700k and a 3060. Literally playing better than my windows machine now. Never a crash, and actual good performance. Seems like a lot, but it really isnt. Took me about 10 mins to do in total.
System Tested:
OS: Arch | Nvidia | Wayland
CPU: i7-7700K
GPU: RTX 3060
RAM: 32GB DDR4
FPS went from 15-20 on average to 90-107 on average.
Proton Used: GE-9-21
I also got Exile Exchange to work on Wayland using multi-monitors.
Hope this helps someone! this fixed everything for me on my main system, deck, and my AMD system.
I also have exile exchange working on multi-monitors using Vulkan. Good luck!
Can't you just add the --nologo argument and then create a rule in kwin to start the poe2 window in full-screen every time instead of having to manually do it?
Holy shit didn't know this existed until now. Asked for directions in global chat so many times, finally other ppl playing on linux.
Did anyone start not being able to skip shader preprocessing recently? Until a few days ago I could just skip it. Now, even without upgrading any package I'm getting long waiting times to open the game. Seeing someone else mentioned shaders recently, not sure it's the same issue. Does the issue it go away if I simply disable pre-caching?
i never had such a popup since deactivating pre caching
im not sure if this is an issue? i think the shader compilation occurs every time there's an update but i could be wrong
shader pre-caching is good in theory but valve's implementation is too buggy. they really need to let us disable it per-game
i haven't had any issues on poe2 because i already had it disabled from warframe (for these very issues lol)
yeah i'd love to be able to disable it per game
oddly enough i haven't had any issues with shader pre-caching with poe2 (amd)
i disabled it to try this, but i barely notice any difference in performance
i get way worse perf on vulkan than dx12 on my amd gpu π€·
same
rly? gotta try dx12
anyone get high temps on amd cards?
when in game if i press alt+d it makes a sound and my mouse clicks stops working. anyone knows what this is? i haven't experienced it with any other game π€
im on plasma
anyone know how to fix CPU stutters? Running arch/ryzen 5700, using proton experimental and vulkan - issue is intermittant, it'll randomly get waaayyyyyy worse
CPU is regularly sitting around 50+ms when game is in foreground (see graph, it dropped down while screensnipping)
absolutely tanking my FPS as well, going from 200+ to 50ish
It is a vulkan issue, just installed windows on an old ssd and the game is so much smoother
Usually its shaders
so how do I precompile shaders?
I used to have this problem in the first game. Arch with ryzen 5800x.
This might seem strange or unexpected but switching the game between windowed and borderless made the problem go away for a few hours. Maybe you could try that to verify if that's the same problem although I'm honestly still not sure what that problem was and I haven't experienced this yet in poe2.
Otherwise, yeah it's almost definitely shaders. Precompilation of shaders should be done by steam automatically when you hit play in steam before the game launches. If this doesn't happen for you, there may be a setting you need to turn on. It's also possible that deleting your shader cache files for the game may allow steam to create them fresh again although I'm currently unsure where these files are stored exactly.
Out of curiosity, are you forcing a particular version of proton on the game?
Forcing proton experimental - I've also spotted similar behaviour with switching between windowed/borderless, but it's not consistent - sometimes the issues go away, sometimes they get slightly better, sometimes nothing works!
So it looks like a similar problem on a similar cpu. I'm now realizing that I don't know whether you're in poe1 or 2. Which one are you in?
If you're in poe1, maybe it's something that was fixed even if by accident in poe2.
i'm in poe1 (see flair besides name)
i was getting insane stutters from being in general chat. hiding it did not help, i have to join a random number and just switch channels back when i need it
will give it a shot!
have you tried the LD_PRELOAD thing?
from the proton-ge discord
FOR RANDOM LAG SPIKES/FRAMERATE DROPS AFTER 20-30 MINUTES - IT IS A STEAM ISSUE https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11446
WORKAROUND:
LD_PRELOAD="" %command%
I have not! I'll give that a shot too
sadly chat hasn't helped :c
rip
coming off for the night and don't have time to test LD_PRELOAD rn, but will test first thing tomorrow morning
hopefully it'll work
seems to have worked!
have dropped some performance, am down to 130ish from 200 before, but that's still more than playable
nice
btw keep in mind that the LD_PRELOAD="" should be at the very start of the launch parameters, otherwise it will disable stuff like gamemode or anything else that relies on preloading
e.g., LD_PRELOAD="" gamemoderun %command%
aye aye, wasn't using anything else anyway
i always skip processing shaders, today i thought i'll let it run, its been running for 2 hours now, is this normal?
removing stuff from LD_PRELOAD is pretty safe; at best it'll make something not work. adding stuff is where the real issues are
isn't this the entire point of adding LD_PRELOAD="" as people are having issues with the steam overlay making the game lag?
thank you π
Hail fellow Linux players - got a couple questions.
#1 - Has anybody gotten the ultra wide screen addon working?
#2 - is there an addon that checks your stash and reports value of the items that runs under Linux?
I know there is one that lets you mouse over individual items that works under Linux, Iβm looking to do a full report.
which client does the 2nd for windows?
Hm, canβt find it now. Thought I saw one that did that.
if there's a client that does that i don't think it would be allowed by poe tos
all clients take the item info by pressing ctrl+c on them
you can hover any item and press ctrl+c and you'll get info of the item pasted to your clipboard
then clients do fancy stuff like price checking using the info copied to your clipboard
so if there's a client that is interacting with every item in your stash without you having to do anything, it's most likely not allowed
iirc steam only sets one preloaded lib, which has the problem. unless the user (or their system) has further altered LD_PRELOAD, this will do exactly that.
in the former case, the user should be knowledgeable enough to figure it out (unless it's something like gamemode, which is why I included those instructions). i've never heard of the latter case happening.
You mean exiled exchange 2?
i've checked by setting the command to just env, and the only preloaded lib was steamoverlay.so or something like that
I'm pretty sure those are just libraries that are required by steam, not actually LD_PRELOADed
and even if they were to be preloaded, that would probably be done in a specific runtime rather than globally like the overlay
it's definitely the best fix. there are no convenient ways of just removing one library, and I highly doubt there are any system configurations where steam itself (as opposed to a runtime) is preloading anything else. you are posing a hypothetical, unsubstantiated problem with an otherwise-working solution to a very real problem, without supplying a reasonable alternative. yeah, sure, it can be a problem in an esoteric configuration, but i don't think there are any better alternatives on what to recommend.
I mean it does fix the issue. It's tracked here https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11446 and is tagged with the steam overlay. It's triggered by any input, mouse or keyboard, and effects games other than Path of Exile 1/2. It is not DXVK specific. If you've got a grand idea for debugging go nuts, but if someone who is effected your options are 1.) Add LD_PRELOAD="" to your launch options or 2.) enjoy 50+ms hiccups anytime you move your mouse or press a keyboard button.
At the moment it's just not that complicated. Right now you can have an unplayable game after 20-40 minutes or a playable game for hours. I agree, workarounds are not a permanent solution but unless you've GOT a permanent solution this seems like the wrong hill to die on.
Better question: why is it my problem to solve? The maintainers who can push as proper fix to far more people are aware of the issue and working to resolve it - and I'm not finishing this message because dka basically said it above lol
It's a workaround fix, as long as it's working I'm happy, I'll let the experts do their tinkering to resolve things properly then apply patches as available
If the workaround DID cause issues for people by removing preloads, sucks for them, but I think most people doing Linux tinkering would be aware that this isn't exactly an orthodox fix
It's sadly the nature of open source. At the end of the day you need someone with both the gumption and the know-how to deliver a comprehensive bug report. That's why Valve has so many people on their payroll at the end of the day. I personally try my best but I'm usually lacking in one or the other.
it's more like if the audio system in your car is broken and making weird noises and you just take it out completely. yeah it has a collateral effect (no audio system), and if you do it incorrectly you can have other issues, but the actual source of the issue (bad audio system) is being fixed.
since the steam overlay shared library is not foss (afaik?), I can't go in and fix it myself, so this is the best option until valve gets around to it
(which is equivalent to the audio system not having a manual, having all the part numbers scratched off, etc.)
yeah, and the stuff steam preloads is isolated to just steam overlay functionality. unless you have some janky audio setup/preload configuration, it won't affect anything outside of that.
see i get what you're saying but also this is what valve employees are saying to do in the dota/cs github until the replay bug is fixed
if my mechanic tells me to put black tape on my check engine light, i'm putting that black tape on
I do, because I've checked the LD_PRELOAD and that's all that's there
using specifically the launch options env >/tmp/log ; echo %command%
and then reading /tmp/log
I highly doubt steam is setting that for anything else, as it would be part of a runtime instead, and runtimes are loaded in the %command%
yeah man please, if you think LD_PRELOAD is 'overkill' feel free to trawl the dota/csgo githubs for the same issue, the people working on the overlay have explicitly stated what the launch options does, and it is exclusively the overlay
Anyone noticed a 5GB RAM cap? Seems to always be maxed out and i have 32gb. not even using a majority of it while in the foreground.
Same for me
are there any price checking apps for linux ?
exiled exchange 2
how do you check?
Good evening. Sorry to bother you. I'm new to Linux. Can you tell me how to install POE trader on Arch? Thank you in advance
i assume you mean exiled exchange 2 by "POE trader". there's an appimage for it in their github releases
I'm tired of MS bullshit and seriously thinking of switching to Linux. How is poe for example using steam ? Does it run as well as on windows ?
Runs just fine for me
What distro do you have please ?
On protondb it has platinum and I've seen a lot of people have quite simple success with it, without any or much tinkering
Of course there will be people with some issues as well
I'm on Arch, but I don't recommend that for beginners unless you're really committed
I heard of it, I think I'll pass for now, thank you
For me it worked with no modifications (other than choosing Proton experimental), I use TuxedoOS
I'll check it out, thank you
You could also go to protondb website entry for poe2 (or poe1 if that's your interest) and each entry usually has note on that user's setup at the time of report submission. You could observe some OSs to try there
But in general right now, if a game doesn't have a needlessly heavy anticheat it will work just fine through steam on Linux
I think I'll be fine then, thank you !
Download the .appimage, chmod +x exiled.appimage to give it execute rights, and run it ./exiled.appimage
Anyone experiencing weird issues from today?
yeah, i've been experiencing that for a couple days now
not sure if it's just coincidence, but disabling chats seemed to help
i feel like it lagspiked every time it had to display a chat message
Does DLSS works for anyone playing on standalone client through lutris?
Yeah I have no idea why this happens. I don't have the steam overlay running (used the LD_PRELOAD workaround), don't have the global chat enabled, tried with both Vulkan/DirectX12, etc. I had constant hiccups of 50+ ms on the CPU from the moment I started playing with my character. A few days ago I made a new character, the stuttering went away, now I'm in the endgame with the new character, no stuttering. And I haven't changed a thing, I haven't cleared the shader cache, changed game options, upgraded my system, nothing, it went away on it's own when I started playing my new character. It's also important to note that my previous character was a merc, and some people have noticed that when you have lots of skill/support gems the game starts doing huge calculations and those hiccups begin (even on Windows), and changing the order of the support gems have helped some people. I also heard switching to random global chats and then hiding it (using /global [number]) has helped some, which might be MithicSpirit's case.
So... apparently the Steam Overlay is buggered now so you'd actually want it enabled, as far as I understand
I've tried with both on and off, it didn't seem to make a difference but maybe I need to do more testing. Right now I have it disabled in a way that Steam detects that PoE 2 is running, but it doesn't show my status.
Someone help me please! I just bought the game and I canβt play lolβ¦. Iβm on steam deck and whenever I try and launch the game it wonβt even go past the gear cogs before it just crashes. Probably my 20th attempt now at launching on top of looking for some help the last hour and a half lol hoping someone can offer guidance so I donβt have to refund π¦
Thereβs some slow down for certain effects like flame wall. But over all itβs okay.
Thatβs assuming youβre using vulkan with an amdgpu.
I might need to switch to dx12 to see if it improves for me lol
I have an AMD GPU luckily
which proton version are you using? try with proton experimental
i think most people agree that dx12 runs better than vulkan but I didn't find a significant difference, maybe like 10 fps more on dx12
is anyone else here having their game go slow-motion due to some sort of network issue mid map? it stays like this for me for 1-2minutes of slow-motion play, then the game catches up for that time lost, goes 5+ seconds of unable to control character, and i either die or end up 10 screens away
Anyone here on manjaro? Whats perf like on proprietary vs open source and in general any issues
I assume you mean proprietary v. open source nvidia drivers?
Just in general
I run amd
But have a second system i can put either card in and am looking for opinions as i havent used linux in a long time and manjaro is my preferred OS
Largely depends on the generation of the card. Newer generations (Turing and up) should generally use nvidia-open(-dkms/etc.). See https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA
I'm not super familiar with Manjaro specifically, but I can't think of a reason it would be any different than stock Arch. FWIW nvidia-open has been great for me on a 40 series card
on 30's series debian/ubuntu/mint for me the -open drivers were a soft brick and didnt boot into Xorg
also you need beta drivers if you're on xorg and using a kernel version newer than 6.11 i believe
Manjaro is just arch with a pre packaged UI of your choosing basically, i use to use it like 4 years ago and also had it on 2 systems both ran the same cpu but gpu was diff mesa was always good on amd but every couple updates i had to reinstall nvid one and change from open to pro because some bullshit stuff happened
Is it normal for the game to Validate so often? Every day, sometimes more than once a day too
Is it following a download of pre-cached shaders?
Might be ye, I should probably disable those
That's why I said I couldn't think of any reason it would be different than on Arch.
nvidia-open just went "stable" and recommended for Turing+ a few months back. Might be worth another try.
Nowadays the Arch package properly blocklists the mesa driver, does modest=1, etc. automatically. It's fairly plug and play with maybe some minor tweaks for Wayland.
Once I followed that Arch wiki page above, I haven't had to touch it outside of switching to open-beta (and then open) several months back.
has anyone had trouble with exiled exchange working only a couple times then suddenly wont open ?
and it's running in the background?
So PoE1 was working just fine this morning. Was trying to get PoE2 working (and failing miserably, blank screen, but TBH didn't do much of anything) and gave up and tried to go back to PoE1. All I'm getting now is a blank screen on start as well. Any suggestions on where to start? I've tried several proton versions with no changes, verified the files (it redownloaded about 540, but no change), and updated/rebooted my system. (Much to my chagrin, I'm using Fedora, because it's the only relatively stable distro that works with my current hardware reliably)
Found my profile in .local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/238960/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games and renamed it, game came back. Pshew!
Still didn't fix PoE2, mind you...
hardware?
NVidia 4070, AMD 7600x, 32gb ram
Which GPU are you trying to run it on?
did you switch the renderer from Vulkan to DirectX12 in your poe2_production_Config.ini file?
Nope, but I guess that's next. I just got the beta yesterday and haven't really played with it yet.
Steam?
Yep.
Edit the file ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/poe2_production_Config.ini and change the line that says renderer_type=Vulkan under [DISPLAY]to renderer_type=DirectX12
awesome have fun β€οΈ
Anyone know how to install a loot filter?Have no clue where the game is taking me when I open the foler button
Thanks! Now I'm getting the error "There is no Windows program configured to open this type of file"
Am I missing something?
Somehow got it to work, no idea what did it
The server lag dropped by a ton after activating the loot filter, is this normal?
might be your client not being able to keep up with the server when displaying that much loot
shouldnt be relevant if you dont drop an absurd amount of loot
I've been running with 70+% item drop rate from tablets + drop rate on waystone
My screen is usually covered in items that I can't even see the ground half the time lol
Especially after breaches
I've crashed out of instances quite a bit
Does anyone have any clue why PoE 2 only works on Proton 8.0-5 for me? The game doesn't even start on every other Proton version including Experimental, Hotfix, GE etc. I'm playing on laptop, have Ubuntu 24.10 with Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU, Wayland and DirectX12 mode.
try checking the logs
oh also make sure you delete the compatdata when you change proton version
