Expensive food places?! I'm there @naive jackal will travel for food
I'll pop in after work to give you a list of less obvious things to do that we've found, as well as food recs outside the city centre
I had a vehicle last time and barely used it. I know downtown has the scooters but is there electric bicycles or something like that if needed
Electric bikes are in the minority - scooters are the most predominant
But the Lime app does both scooters and bikes, so they'll be listed on there
Like the scooters work all over Auckland? Here lime has a working area
Unsure, I don't use them.
as someone who's spent most of my life living in places that aren't my "home", it's universal. live anywhere long enough and you start forgetting the good and getting more annoyed by the bad 😄
True. I love returning home after traveling. Really opens the eyes 😄
I'd say if you want to get a bit more off the beaten path it's a good idea to have a car, just depends how far from the city centre you're keen to go
personally would lean towards going further to explore this time since it sounds like you did most of the normal touristy stuff last time? but up to you of course
I'm all for relaxing on this vacation.
I would suggest downloading offline maps (if you use google maps app) for Auckland +
And possibly picking up the AT Mobile (Auckland public transport) app, which might be handy for those without a car.
In relation to prices - no hidden taxes, if you see a price on a price tag, that's the price, no matter where in NZ you are.
We were thinking of taking a train down to hobbiton. And a boat ride somewhere. That's all the planning I've done so far
Like maybe 3h from downtown max
Syn and I both had some stuff in this post and the ones immediately following that might be useful, though some of it will be redundant for you
<#exilecon message>
yeah I mean that's heaps, but there are places half an hour away where you already need a car to visit them
I took Uber a few times so that's always an option. @lilac kelp
Btw what's the chances a non streamer can check out GGG offices?
yeah for sure. it's more if you're keen to do stuff like bushwalks or winery visits and the like where you're going outside city limits, while possible it's not super practical to get an uber back from a lot of places like that
but if that's not something you want to spend a lot of time doing you're probably fine
I would guess low but I'm not sure at all, sorry
Well if it's interesting I can always rent and drive
our offices are also just really boring tbh
it's not like we have a silicon valley style campus 😄
Pods of desks with random crap on it
Well worse case just take a picture of the building
Except slightly more nerdy crap than usual
I think I have a Pickle Rick at my desk that someone gave me. I don't even like that show
Sorry to hear you don't like Rick and Morty.
you can definitely do that if you're keen, the office is walking distance from Henderson train station. and you can grab some Shaka's while you're there
(Shaka's is just a local fried chicken takeaway joint, but it's good and has a special place in the hearts of a lot of GGG staff)
I see a bubble tea shop near the building
I haven't tried it so can't comment on whether it's any good
K. so I see Omaha Beach looks nice. Is there a nicer beach that's closer?
I know it will be kinda cold in July but I never did go near a beach last time
heaps, though Omaha also has some nice stuff nearby (Matakana saturday markets were pretty big and busy last time I went, Tawharanui Regional Park has lovely walks and views, the reptile park is surprisingly good for actually seeing animals though it's very ad-hoc and a bit of a mess)
I don't have time to do a proper list right now, if no one else has I'll list some when I get off work and ping you.
Sure.
Mission Bay is a nice walk - the beach is pretty popular and you can do a whole walk down the bays. They also have some pretty nice restaurants - I personally vouch for Der Metz which is german and has schnitzel bigger than your face.
I also think MASU in Skycity Auckland (underneath the sky tower) is 10/10 (but expensive)
how much would a train trip to hobbiton cost roughly? coz back in 2019 a group of us booked a hobbiton + waitomo bus trip but the price went up quite a bit since then
Says 150CAD or 280 with caves
Oh oops that's with bus ride. I'm not sure with train
Can't seem to find the train right now but did see it before. I think it was separate. And not a group rate
@heavy pelicanokay beaches. (I did not mean to immediately hit enter but oh well)
Mission Bay is lovely, agreed. it's also easily accessed by bus from the CBD (downtown), or you can walk if you're keen. you can keep going, there are more nice (but similar) beaches further east. all of those beaches are pretty urban "neighbourhood beaches), I would say the vibe is the main draw rather than the beaches themselves.
the north shore is peppered with beaches, which vary between neighbourhood vibes and really pretty surfy ones. for my money Long Bay is the best and also has a very nice clifftop walk starting from it, but it is also the furthest away.
the western beaches have black sand, which is very cool. they're also less developed and more rugged. Piha and Muriwai are the ones to try if you want to make the trip, Piha is more weird and Muriwai is massive. there's also a ton of other stuff to see in the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park as I've alluded to in this channel before. Piha and much of the park are currently inaccessible to casual visitors due to flood damage to the road, but hopefully this will be resolved soon.
Onetangi Beach on Waiheke Island is very pretty and also you're on Waiheke so you're probably having a good time. it's probably the most archetypal beach you're going to get a stones throw from Auckland, and you can have a drink at one of the restaurants on the beachfront.
for restaurants outside the CBD, honestly you don't need to go far because the next biggest concentration of restaurants is on Karangahape Road (usually just known as K Road) and Ponsonby Road, which are just outside the CBD. really 90% of the most talked about restaurants and bars are either in the CBD or on one of those two. we haven't personally been to a ton of them, three I will recommend are Cotto, Azabu and The Broken Lantern. I bet Syn has more. on the other side of the city, I also really want to try Pasture one day but my god it has an eye-watering price tag.
a bit further afield, unfortunately our favourite restaurant in the whole city recently closed down but here are some other places we like:
- Copia: farm to table concept with a lot of the produce grown literally on the premises and a nice view
- Sashimi Bar Ajimi: super legit Japanese, the large sashimi combo is the best value sashimi in Auckland and also just some of the best, period (this is something I've spent a considerable amount of effort figuring out). everything else is great too
- Mairangi Bay Bakery: the best pies I've had in Auckland. there's probably another bakery that does better ones but also, you can't really go too wrong with most random bakeries that serve pies, and I can't recommend them enough for a quick meal (especially if the concept of an individual savoury pie is novel to you)
- Chiko's: repping somewhere close to GGG, but also it's very good mostly Japanese/Filipino fusion. don't be put off by the crap location.
-Elevation: the food is fine but mostly mentioning for the view, if you can sit outside it's probably the best view of any restaurant in Auckland aside from going up the tower. N.B. closed at time of writing due to flood damage to the nearby road, hopefully all will be well by July!
ill look it over in a bit. I did wonder how the flooding affected things. @lilac kelp thanks for the information. 👍
this looks really cool, thanks viper. we're just going to be chilling, probably walk around, visit some food places and stuff and sightsee other than exilecon
Good dinner option on K Road is Candela. Ponsonby also has amazing options: Kol, Cassia (soon to be reopened in it's new location), Beau. Happy to provide suggestions for more places if you're looking for something specific (in Auckland or Wellington).
I like food
If anyone's going to Queenstown and likes fancy foods, I will recommend The Bunker until I die - I've done their Taste of the South degustation a few times and it's been top notch every time.
South-er of the CBD because I can't live there as I'm a poor bitch:
- Nishiki (Botany Downs): Good and reasonably priced Japanese, tapas/small plates style. I would stab a bitch for their Tuna Namaharu (dinner only) ||Although I admit it doesn't take me a lot to stab a bitch tbh||. They're also on Uber Eats.
- Daikoku (multiple locations): If you have a few people, they do a teppan-yaki style dinner that's a little expensive but the show is cool - 10/10 if you get someone that does the Onion Train.
- The Terrace at Sylvia Park is a slightly more upper class food court, as a nice selection with a sushi train, and is at the mall so you can wander around and marvel at how fuckin' expensive everything is for a us poor kiwi's
- Auckland Night Markets (multiple locations) - the markets themselves are a bit bleh in places, but has a nice selection of cheap foods, I think there's pretty much one every night across the city
- Captain Kai Moana (Drury): Used to be a seafood food truck, now has a permanent location. Has paua (abalone) fritters to die for, but very popular so be prepared for a wait.
- The Corner (Howick): Tapa's style, has revolving special menu with some treats. Can be busy some nights.
- Karaka Spice Junction (Karaka): The best Indian I've ever had in my life, I would consider stabbing a bitch for their lamb sagwaala
- Cafe Melba (Karaka): Their wait service is a bit shit, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it.
- Howick Village Cafe (Howick): I've been here twice in two weeks because they have some excellent breakfast options, and I'll keep going back until I've tasted their whole menu
Yay. I'll be able to make it to exilecon this time around too 😄 Thanks for all the awesome tips in this channel, they're top notch. I went to hobbiton and the worm caves last time, can really recommend those. This time I'll probably just stay mainly in Auckland and hit up good food.
Just a quick check to make sure i understand correctly - lyft doesn't operate in NZ, right? just Uber and some NZ rideshare services?
Lyft is not in NZ, yep. Ola is the other international one that is here. I can't comment on whether it's any good as I've only used Uber.
thanks for all the food suggestions, i love you but my wallet hates you
You're welcome~
Question regarding the Exilecon qualifier event. It does mention that we need to connect our Twitch account to our Path of Exile account. Does that also mean that if we have a race account, we need to unconnect from our main account and then connect to our race account?
it's 1:40AM in NZ right now, so I'd recommend emailing support to get an official GGG reply before the qualifier event.
It sounds to me like making sure the account you are racing on is linked to a twitch account is essential, but which twitch account (you could have two) I don't see any requirements for. I don't have any more info than what the forum post says though
Worst case make a new twitch account for the racing account and stream from that, host/raid it from your main twitch account before if you care about viewership numbers
Why is there a need for a race account? Just curious
Another question: how is the car rental situation there? I'm not sure if turo is in NZ. Are there local alternatives?
I'd never heard of it before, but it doesn't seem to be in NZ and there doesn't seem to be anything comparable. I'd recommend fact-checking me on that second point cause I just did a google search.
there are heaps of traditional car rental companies operating out of the airport. all the big international players are here but you'll get waaaaaay better prices using a mid-size company. https://www.nz.kayak.com/cars has a price comparison search.
there are also instant hire by the hour companies mostly running out of central Auckland if that's something you'd want.
Thanks!
I bought 2 tickets last year and now my friend and I cannot make it to Exilecon. What should I do? Is there a refund?
You should contact Support: https://www.pathofexile.com/support Email in this page
hey guys, was there any info on who guraste_ponme in the qualifier race was?
when you have more stuff (stash tabs, mtx effects etc) on your account, load times are slower or sth like that..so for racing, people make fresh accounts
I'm going to be solo traveling and trying to decide when I'm flying in, any other people trying to meet up on certain days?
I'm sure there'll be plenty before and after
maybe more before since GGG straight up said it's better
@verbal epoch I live in Auckland PM me if you want some advice on where to go/do ect
I can't wait for ExileCon. I'm literally soo exicted. However I'm still relatively new to the game (only 200 hours) soo I've been gaming a lot to learn more of the game.
I haven't even made it to Yellow maps :(. But I'm pretty sure with the most recent build I'm doing I'm going to get there.
How bad is the weather in Auckland right now? Flooding again?
Doesn't appear to be as bad as the last set, but that might be because it's less of a novelty for news reporting, so is getting less coverage...
Hmmm that's good I guess 👍
It does seem to be significantly less bad, a lot less in the way of serious damage
There was half as much rain as the big one so makes sense
Does arriving on the 25th and leaving on the 3rd sound reasonable or should I be there earlier? 🤔
IMO it just depends how much extra sightseeing/travel you want to do
you should have it now!
Thanks
Make sure to pack some warm clothes
It's getting so cold now
Even today it's bloody freezing and just raining
It's still autumn
My dude, Spring has sprung. We're in the ass-end of Autumn rn...

Last time the 3-4 days leading up to the conference was a lot of fun! So many PoE-people meeting up through discord and just hanging out!
I didn't think too much about my days. I'm a bit sad that I didn't allocate some free days prior to the con, but I have 2 days after at least.
I just booked my tickets, decided to go a bit earlier. 20th-2nd
I'm in Auckland rn and some useful advice for anyone flying here for the first time is prolly to not to get a taxi from the airport to the city. An uber costs like $55 but a taxi can run $125 ish cuz they mostly exist for corporates. Buses/shuttles etc are available if you wanna pay less obvs.
I've ordered lapel pins with my avatar on them to wear to exilecon
I do wish there was a train line going out to the airport (it's a bizarre oversight by local govt for many decades) but lacking that, I've usually used the public airport bus, which is much cheaper than other options
https://at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/bus-services/airport-services/
Public transport options to and from Auckland Airport. Find out more at www.at.govt.nz.
main thing to note there is you'd need to pick up an AT HOP card at the airport to use it, since they don't take cash anymore. That site has directions on where to look
There's also a kiosque for the bus in front of the airport, slightly on the left when you exit, you can't miss it
I'm looking at accomodations now, do you guys think getting an Airbnb apartment in the CBD is a good idea?
Were you working at 3xG last con?
No, I attended as a player. Was still in hiring discussions with GGG at the time, I joined a couple of months after
Alas no
No exilecon card game?
Those lines were so long I had to give up on it due to my sanity
At first glance, I thought you meant bringing regular cards to play in line to get into the venue.
last exilecon they had all GGG staff wear monsters and bosses and you could battle them. show cards to be more powerful. kinda like single card War.
ExileCon has a star-studded lineup of past and present Path of Exile Streamers and content creators attending the convention, including Kripparrian, PreachGaming, NeverSink, Steelmage, tytykiller, imexile, Zizaran, Mathil, RaizQT, Nugiyen, ZiggyD and Amie. Also attending ExileCon are many veteran ARPG developers such as David Brevik, Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer and Travis Baldree.
Cool Guests! 🎉
Very cool that the NZeTA app doesn't support android 13 🥲
Yeah, disappointing. Hopefully not much of a nuisance besides that it's apparently a bit more expensive on the site?
Yeah not a big deal, just a bit strange that it's cheaper through the app but then it's outdated.
Am I really misunderstanding here or is he taking me for a hike? 😅
I'm calculating 13 nights.
4pm 20th > 11am 21st
4pm 21st > 11am 22nd
22 > 23, 23 > 24, 24>25, 25>26, 26>27>, 27>28, 28>29, 29>30, 30>31, 31>1, 4pm 1st > 11am 2nd.
Did you miss that July has a 31st?
Oh I see what they mean on a pay per night now, just confusing since I asked some other place I was interested in the same question.
Sometimes it can be confusing since some websites will ask you when you want to check in and when you want to check out (for which your dates would be 20Jul > 02Aug), as opposed to how many nights do you want to stay (20Jul > 01Aug). :>
I'll have to ask someone else to weigh in, sorry. I'm not sure how Airbnb works, but I guess as long has the host knows you want to stay the night of the 1st and check out on the 2nd, then you should be ok?
I think the confusion is caused by the fact that the Airbnb hosts are more or less familiar with the Airbnb date picker, and that's what they're trying to help you with.
If you want to stay a single night in Airbnb, you select two days. You can't select a single day in their date picker, it's always Aug 1 to Aug 2, checking in usually around 4PM Aug 1, checking out around 10-11AM Aug 2
@verbal epoch In general I'd suggest trusting the Airbnb date picker plus check in / checkout times over what the host says. Based on what you said, if you want to leave morning of the 2nd you need a 14 Day, 13 night stay.
The second host who replied to you is wrong if you're asking about the number of days you select in the date picker, but right when it comes to the amount of nights you're paying for (the last night you pay for is Aug 1)
@heavy wedge Yep understood, thank you so much!
so i guess you'll be easy to spot
not strange at all. like all apps, it gathers some data and forwards it to the relevant party, in this case the NZ gov. So you can either pay a bit more if you're privacy/security conscious, or you can install the app. I feel it's nice on their part to give you a choice. Most countries don't.
ngl we had a lot of fun with the card game, but due to how it came to be, i doubt it'll happen again this year (though i certainly would love to be wrong)
Has there been an exilecon 2023 discord stated? For meetups, drinks etc? We had one for 2019.
GGG made it last time so I assume they will again
Got my visa approved this morning, that has been worrying me since I found out I could not apply for the NZeTA and had to apply for a visa instead
NZ's visa waiver list isn't that long
Plenty of people don't live in those countries
No idea, I started the NZeTA process and it told me I needed the Visa instead
Probably because you don't live in one of these places https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/preparing-a-visa-application/your-journey-to-new-zealand/before-you-travel-to-new-zealand/visa-waiver-countries
Or rather, you are not a citizen from one of these
ahh
visa turnaround time is pretty long in the us and it’s gonna be a bit before i get mine still
i mean if you're an american citizen, you don't need a visa to get to NZ, you just need one if you're NOT a citizen of the aforementioned list of visa waiver countries. the US is on that list, so you just need an NZeTA
anyway, finally done with setting everything up for my trip, only remaining factor will be whether or not i go skiing at some point but that'll depend on weather conditions so most likely won't decide before I arrive on the 15th.
The reason I started with the NZeTA process was because I do indeed live in a country on that list - am a citizen and more importantly, a passport holder of a country on that list
Maybe this will be helpful to someone else, but this is probably the soundest explanation to why I did indeed have to apply for a visa - so Ill be going with this one "I might be sketch and they needed to make sure"
weird
in any case maybe you should call them for clarity; I forgot what info you need to put in for nzeta but I don't think it's more info than passport number and basic personal stuff
if "sketch" is the reason then either there's a mistake or you're on a list
not tryna imply anything
Maybe they visited a farm or is a farmer or something
They know you like fruit and wanna make sure you're not going to doom the ecosystem by bringing one in.
Yum, Kiwis!
got my passport early and applied for my nzeta
Does anyone know any tour companies or travel consulting operating from Christchurch? Still have to plan the week after the con and kinda just want to leave it to someone else lol
Just wanted to say that whoever set up this server did a fantastic job. Easily the best onboarding experience I've had so far.
Did they say the next league comes out one or two weeks after the con?
I don't think they said
but they said you wouldn't want to hang out in NZ after the con if you wanted to play poe
expect it will probably be the second friday after con
something like this yeah
so something like 11th August would be my guess, but it could be the week before to be fair, the con does land on a weekend, so it could just as easily be 4th August
Of course, this event is a great opportunity to spend even longer in New Zealand, though because we're launching 3.22 two weeks after the convention, it may be better to plan your exploration of New Zealand to be before ExileCon rather than after. From Support email sent to all ticket holders
August 11 is 3.22?
Do we know, skill system in PoE2 will replace system in 1e, or they will both exist together? I'm not sure I really want to do piano lessons every time I go in map
Afaik, they've not released anything apart from trailers, which (while they showcase potential skills), don't have any teasers about the mechanics of how they work or what the interface will be like.
That means wait for exilecon. One long long month 😦

That's how it's supposed to work
I'd imagine while the details have changed, the base system should still be that
the trailers are very concerning. i really hope skills arent cooldown based. i hate cooldown gameplay in D4. its terrible 😦
nothing is impoissble but its very doubtful ggg has about faced and decided cooldowns are the way forward for all builds in poe 2
There was no reason to believe that any of the things we saw in the trailers had cooldowns, not counting things that were only used once like the storm cloud circle thing.
We will see soon. I hope not
Except all the stuff from Exilecon 2019. Which states that players can have up to 10 6-Links, They are changing Auras in a more streamline turn on/off. Fusings are gone. New weapon class (Spear, Crossbow) therefore we will be getting skills related those weapons.
Is there a discussion anywhere for people looking to group up for meals and whatnot? I don't think any of my friend group is going. I figured since it's vacation I'd splurge a little, and Ahi/Sail seem like the type of place you go to as a group.
I think a good place would be a thread in this channel. I'm not sure if GGG is planning on making an official Exilecon Discord like last time
I'm going to the Hobbiton set on the 24th
Ah yeah I was trying to find that paragraph on the site, no wonder I couldn't
That server was one of the best parts about it
I didn't do any meetups but it was fun just talking to everyone who's physically close-ish
According to the last con, yes it'll replace the original. But nothing about a fundamental flask reworks yet, so for now you still have to piano
Do we have a topic list for exilecon? Like release date of poe2? Etc
https://www.pathofexile.com/exilecon is all the detail that has been announced so far. Beta release date for PoE2 will be announced yes
Tysm
Apologies for asking just noticed it was pinned
I wonder if quin will go to exilecon
I usually suffer until I get the 'use flask when full charges'
Most recent death in hc. Had a flask that stops bleed. Proceeds to get slapped by the bleed trap in lab. Brain lags and doesnt hit the flask
F
Yeah! Didnt know that was a thing till quin died to it
I'm so noob I just have three life flasks and slam them if low hp
But idea of combining 4-6 different skills with 6-links into some kind of usable simple fight terrifies me.
I'm hyped about new link system, spears, crossbows, hope for better optimization but thoughts about piano...
Ik the poe1 campaign will stay and we get the choice of which one to do but does that mean the poe1 camping also gets the visual update ?
Well its a complete engine overhaul so yeah it should!
Im more excited to see the pinnacle bosses in the new engine
The synth bosses will look so nice
I think the new ones will look slightly better
And the ones from the past will have great improvement
Im currently deep divin into the lore now
Kitava in new graphics holy
Tryna get all the lore thats hard to understand whike killin hordes
There’s a really good lore poe yt
Been watchin kitten cat noodle
I really like this guy
Talkative Tri
Rn he does update vids
But few yrs ago he did lord
Lore
Also was unaware sin got tricked by aarakali and was trapped and basically used by the spider god until her followers betrayed her
Some of them
The corrupted scorpion is his daughter
Forget her name
But most of them are unrelated to him
Since a lot of them are mortal turned gods
Then theres ones like kitava who are primal born as gods
The video I sent goes in great detail abt how Kitava become to be who he is
Im gettin there noodle the one im watchin has like 30 min vids of all lore within each act
Then a buncha other stuff
I actually dont know a lot of lore about the pinnacle bosses so itll be cool getting to that point
Kinda missed the whole elder/shaper arc when that happened and those storylines arent really there now
yes but unless they announce it I wouldn't get my hopes up, because an engine overhaul still wouldn't touch those 2x2 textures
although I do believe character animation should be updated so that'll be great
Mmmm, I imagine they have to be overhauled anyhow so they should be updated, since our endgame is the same atlas mapping system right? Which contains most if not all the bosses in the game. That will be jarring to not update them for that reason alone
Can’t wait to see some the league mechanics with new graphics
agreed
im hoping for a big surprise on endgame changes, but that might be hoping for too much
but poe 2 WITH a shiny new endgame? amazing
All my mtx on a new engine
I cna only imagine how much my eyes will burn with freezing totem build
GGG always has a huge surprise no one saw coming. I'm hoping for a mode where you don't have to do the campaign more than once per league.
PLEASE
I agree with the first part, they will likely reveal something way beyond the scope of player expectations.
But a campaign skip? Incredibly unlikely. Chris has stated on multiple occasions they are designing the campaign with replayability in-mind, because it is going to be the only way to reach endgame...
The real question is what are they doing to make it feel different every playthrough?
Honestly I just want poe1 with better graphics. Also Minions and spectres being buffed and zero button gameplay. But that's probably never coming back 😔
I’d happily heist or delve to map lvl
Or even do maps to maps
If that makes any sense
👋 Thanks all for the fun PoE 2 discussion. I made #2┃general to discuss Path of Exile 2 teased and speculated topics. Let's keep this channel about Exilecon itself
I'm looking at the 28th. I'm not flying in until the 27th, and I'm gonna try to do Hobbiton before the VIP dinner. I emailed, and they said they don't have any itenerary set, but said it'd probably be similar to the 2019 one. Emphasis on probably.
Hope some hot Tulina cosplay can be seen
I figure this is probably the best place to reach out.
I'm flying in that Wednesday morning and flying out the next Tuesday.
Looking to probably try to do the Hobbiton thing at some point, otherwise I'm thinking of checking out a museum or two and the Zoo most likely.
Up for any meetups or anything if they exist.
Anyone got tips/things to watch out for left hand driving?
How long does the exilecon last ?
2 days, July 29-30
Though due to timezones it might be 28-29th for you
yeah i was curious to why the dates on these new announcements were a day before the event....
Technically the last one was more than two days because of Chris's signing sessions
If you're coming from the USA, turning around the corner at a red light is a definite no-no.
Corrected: red light.
yep
Other than that and the prevalence of roundabouts, there's not too much that's hugely different that I know of, but then again I've never been driving in the USA... Will leave the question open for others, though.
I don't get why people are scared of roundabouts
I remember there being a lot of 1 way bridges in NZ.
When coming up to a one-lane bridge, take note of the signs.
I dunno. I drove in NZ after a 13h flight. Almost hit a few things but didn't.
im not scared of roundabouts
i wish more were here in the US
ill be skipping driving, just ubering to/from hotel though
From my experience driving in NA, you just get used to the other side of the road pretty quick - but it took me a while to get used to having a whole bunch of car on my right (instead of on my left)
Are gas stations self service in NZ?
Yea they are
The vast majority (95%) are, but you might come across one or two that are manned. It's a toss up as to whether you can pay at the pump or whether you have to go into the station to pay, though.
That doesn't belong here, yo.
Just don't drive tired.
How far is your hotel from the venue?
i forget, but close, like a 5-10m walk
Same
yeah we went with the parkside hotel auckland
Maybe we are next door neighbors
I'll make Templar noises through the wall
i’ll make ranger noises
just tryna think of anything else we need
we have our passports, our nzetas are approved
gonna get travel insurance
Money
like paper money?
like money money
With it being winter will hobbiton be worth going to? Has anyone gone during winter and summer?
I'm going, should still be nice. Doing the evening banquet tour this time.
I did the Grand by SkyCity. 6m walk. I didn't fully research first, but apparently it's in a casino.
For hobbiton, I did the lunch thing.
What is that 🤔
Oh seems nice https://www.hobbitontours.com/en/bagshot/
Also staying at the Grand. Made the mistake last time by staying to far away from everything. Did the hobbiton banquet last time. It got pretty cold at night. I imagine it will be much colder.
so uh any currency conversion tips from usd to nzd? should i just preemptively do that in the US?
I just used my debit card. It did all that for me. US also
Just make sure your card is free of foreign transaction fees
Many cards are nowadays
Some credit card providers may also have included limited travel insurance or rental car insurance - if you're on a budget, the conditions of those might be enough for you. Check them out.
Oh and also check if your card requires you to report your travel. Most cards also don't need this anymore
Anyone thinking about doing the waitomo caves?
I did it last year but I'm not sure if it's worth the drive tbh
The actual glow worm cave ride is only like 5 minutes
thanks for the heads up
But you can also take a walking tour in an adjacent cave
may try to do one of the Weta Workshops then
That could make it worth your time
Yeah I was just going to say, IMO Ruakuri cave next door is more interesting
Things may have changed since but when we went a couple of years ago, Waitomo was very busy and rushed and aside from the quick boat ride was just ok
It is, but it's not as unique as the glow worms
I'm honestly going to get to NZ and be like I have no plans......
If you've been in other caves you might just have seen the same thing before
and ask all the locals of cool places to visit
Whereas Ruakuri was super interesting and we were in for like 90 minutes and there was only one other couple in our group
I honestly had a better time with Auckland zoo and the aquarium
Maybe we're talking about different caves, Ruakuri has plenty of glow worms. Just not the boat ride, though they do donut rides through the bottom if you have heaps of time
Friend and I paid for tickets to go in the penguin habitat
I'm landing on the 21st at 5am.... I think i got some time
Oh wait I totally forgot it also has the worms
I guess it wasn't as impressive compared to waitomo
But still cool
We don't have caves in Michigan here, lots of lakes made from Glaciers
https://www.waitomo.co.nz/adventure/blackwater-rafting-ttt this was a lot of fun in 2019, worth it imo.
Beyond the Auckland War Museum are there any cool Natural History Museums?
That's the biggest one in/around Auckland that I'm aware of.
The zoo is on my list of places to go definitely.
it's great
I mainly just want to drive around NZ, lol. II like the aquarium/zoo/museum ideas as well, thanks guys.
Hello friends! The website says badge pickup on the Friday - think there would be an issue picking up on the Sat instead?
Not that I can think of, apart from having to wait in line.
I thought the aquarium was ok, the zoo was really good, and the museum is top notch.
Hey guys, I wanted to ask 2 tings:
- Is there a pin with some useful information regarding activities in NZ/Auckland during the exile con weeks
- Is there or will there be a dedicated exilecon discord (similar to last time)
Thanks
- nope
- dunno
for 1) just read through this channel; people talk about this quite often
for 2) ggg made the last one so someone else'll have to if they don't this time
Apparently a couple hours away there are some cool Heated beaches, where volcanic activity heats the water in the soil. And you could dig out your own hot tub.
How long are you guys planning on staying in NZ? I am still thinking about going since there is still tickets available.
how's the current price of gas atm in NZ?
NZ$2.25/L is what I'm paying atm, there's obviously variability depending on location
wow, ty for the quick reply 🙂
And yes that will sound crazy high if you're American
trying to figure out how much this road trip of mine is going to cost
well i'm a baguette so it's pretty much the same price here after conversion
i like how renting a car with unlimited mileage costs very little in NZ though
like pretty much a third of what i'd have to pay here
For 1, while there's good stuff on this spread all through the channel, Syn and I did a bit of a summary of personal recs for Auckland here #exilecon message
i second the war memorial, went there last exilecon and it was super nice
I'm staying close to 3 weeks this time around, because last time I couldn't see everything I wanted to see in 9 days (only had time to do Hobbiton + Waitomo + Rangitoto Island + most of the stuff in Auckland)
there's an unofficial discord that has been going since last Exilecon where there's about a 100 of us attendees as well as many streamers. dm me if you want an invite coz idk what's the policy about sharing invites here
btw for those of you who want to do the Hobbiton evening tour with dinner, I hope you've booked already otherwise you're gonna need to figure something out (they're fully booked from July 19th to Aug 06th)
thats not awful, california prices or so
What's the prices in Cali? Isn't it per gallon in USA? Thats 3.785 l. So NZ would be 8.51 a gallon?
Dang NZ almost double gas prices here
Yep. $8.51 NZD per gallon, which is $5.06 USD per gal ($6.70 CAD) etc.
All of our oil is imported, and iirc we have a singe refinery that creates about 60-70% of NZ's transport fuel (so the other 30-40% has to be imported too).
Given that we're so fuckass far away from everything, it's expenny to get it here, which reflects in our fuel pricing.
Edit: My google search was out of date - we no longer refine in NZ, so 100% of our oil and fuel is imported.
That sucks
Hey guys, quick question cus i'm a bit confused on the NZ customs website
I'm on some medications that are highly restricted, is there a limit/how do i declare them?
Tbh I'm on a few medications and I'm concerned I may mess things up when declaring so I was wondering if anybody had advice on the best way to bring them with me when going to exilecon?
Can't hurt to have a copy of your most recent doc script
So get a doctors letter outlining my medications/up to date?
I normally get them in a pack called a webster pack so I can remember if I've taken them. I assume that won't meet the criteria needed
I'm not 100% sure, I've never need to travel internationally with meds, sorry.
Maybe https://www.customs.govt.nz/personal/travel-to-and-from-nz/medicines/ can help?
No probs, sometimes the googles are more forgiving if you're in the actual region.
yea i pay like 4 bucks a gallon in the midwest
not great, but definitely not the worst prices ive ever seen
3.50$ a gallon here ......
like 3.60 in midwest for me
Renting a car. Was looking into overnight parking around the convention since my hostel is nearby, and it seems like this place allows overnight parking (https://at.govt.nz/driving-parking/find-parking/parking-in-central-auckland/civic-car-park/), but are there any other recommendations (or should I pick a diff spot near the convention)?
dark joke, anyone?
No thanks.
The lights went out. dun dun tisss
I do wonder from where most people will travel from to get to Exilecon. I am currently still debating it, and with my current planning its a 25h flight and ~3k€ for flight and hotel for 7 days. (Europe btw)
I'm not sure about this time, but last time the majority of attendees were from Europe or NA
ah cool, i was expecting NA but i would have guessed that alot of the people are either locals or from australia.
IIRC local+aus accounted for about a third of attendance last time
good to know, thank you for the quick answers. 🙂 i should really make up my mind soon, would be my first flight alone, so i am abit on the edge
happy to help with general flying questions and concerns if you want, I have done the Sydney to London route a whoooole lot
ye i researched abit so i think i have a pretty good idea, which route i would take (Frankfurt Germany -> Dubai -> Auckland) its more about actually commiting 😅
I feel like you should spend a day or two in Dubai, maybe ride Formula Rosa, and get the ride credit.
badges arrived!
@lilac kelp Why three? Are you going to have decoy Vipers running around?
hahaha no, I just thought it was a good idea to get spares
That's valid.
I was going to look for a toucan mask but the available options are all a bit munted unfortunately
Toucans are surprisingly not widely available in NZ
I still use the toucan keyring you sent
I have a similar one that's a budgie in a icecream cone. They're very sturdy.
I was hoping you'd have like 300 to give out
Cool. Is this a GGG thing or discord thing? Who else is wearing badges?
It's just a me thing as far as I know
Nice,
Im doing Amsterdam -> Hong Kong -> Auckland.
Spending 3 days in HK before and after Auckland - cause good food and stuff - and this will let me split up the 24ish hour flight into two 12 hour flights
They look super clean, nice badges
Wonder if anyone will rock up full toucan for the con 👀
I have no objection to this proposal
You'd be easy to spot.
Was there not a toucan last time?
I feel like there was but maybe that's just a false memory born of wishful thinking
Definitely believable but I can't recall if I saw any footage of one.
yeah the prices have gone crazy compared to 2019. flights cost me 900€ back then, 2.4k this time around 😦
i might be tempted to lift one from you when you're distracted 😄
idk about someone showing up in full toucan costume, but i defo remember someone who brought over a dozen toucan plushes
yeah, 3.3 grand USD for my wife and i round trip
I wish I was wealthy enough to afford first class flights. Personally I'd say 1h of flight is worth like 2-300 dollars. For example if I can save 200 and add a hour of flight okay.
Flights and hotel are so much more this time around. Taking up all my Poe money
yeah
id love to afford first class but iirc that doubles or triples the cost of the flight itself
3.3 seems so cheap, mine was 2.4 solo and that's in euro even.
yea that does work out to cheaper now that you mention it
i got mine directly from air new zealand and picked whatever the cheapest dates were that i could find
I'm trying to camp an award flight
So I can maybe find a business class for credit card points
But my solo econ ticket was 2.4 usd
Is this a bad time to mention it's going to be a $7 train ride from my house to excon?

Clean up on aisle 3 🤔
Let's keep the channel focused on exilecon discussion
what is that
a general off-topic channel 😄
@lilac kelp we're getting swag bags again right, at the badge pickup?
devo portal best mtx
haven't used any other portal mtx since i got it, i just love how it goes with whatever hideout design i can come up with
like what
what a chad
to be fair i gave one of mine away to my lil bro
I think at the time I used the abyss portal but then the crucible portal came out so I use that
only needed the second swag bag for the deck of cards anyway, nothing else
yeah I missed the crucible one
(I found that on an Aussie website and it was about $90 if you're interested 👀)
the toucon
so drinks on you
Only if someone be throwin' it in my face
18 days til i arrive in Auckland, weeeeee
Im just driving into works free carpark in CBD
27 more days
How to keep entertained... 29 days till flight out
but does NZ actually have a PoE gateway
There used to be one but it's kinda gone now
Can someone tell me when the stream is for ExileCon?
https://www.pathofexile2.com/ has a countdown
Thank you 🙂
I need some lore on this good sire, what did we miss?
idk, i just remember being able on an Auckland gateway last Exilecon which was really nice coz IP routing to Australia sucked (at least as far as SkyCity hotel WiFi ISP was concerned)
Wasn't it a secret trial thing? Can you not type in Auckland anymore?
Oh I read poe gateway and my brain read path of exile waypoint
I’m somewhat in the industry so I have been doing a bit of research on isp’s in nz and from what I saw in Auckland you get 30m free internet access a day with Spark, Christchurch on the other hand if I read correctly had full on free internet acess in the center with Enabled or Chorus
ayo do we have time on when the stream starts for exilecon ?
lmao i thought it was today
Why do people think it's this week anyway
june = july
true
I scammed myself so hard. I tought it was today!!!!
Completely disappointed in myself fck
Not being native english speaker I understand this lol
^^
Hey, I'm flying to New Zealand in a few days and I was wondering what the best ways to get from the airport to downtown Auckland were. Since my flight lands at 11 PM, I assume I'll probably be limited to taxis or Uber, but who knows. Got any recommendations?
At least it isnt 5 am like mine......
11 pm doesnt seem like it would be too hard to get either a Taxi or Uber, most of Taxi Services that hit International Airports will have Late night drivers.
My 5 am though might be a bit harder.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I have no
idea how big the Auckland airport is so I wasn't too sure. You think the cafés and shops are open 24/7? I could check but my internet has just been cut because I'm moving (great timing I know) so I'm relying on my phone's 4G for the next few days. Also the taxi prices don't seem too outrageously expensive, which I was afraid of.
I'd think that there might be some News stand styled shops open 24/7 Doubt you'd find a restaurant that open 24/7 but I feel that you should find one or two open late, think Bar hours.
The airport shops/food options are not open 24/7, I would be surprised if there's anything open at 11pm. But yeah should be no problem getting transport. Uber is generally a fair bit cheaper than a taxi, for what it's worth.
I think airport amenities generally open at 6? Don't know about AKL specifically though
I have a similar issue too; I land at 5:30AM but my friend lands at 2PM, so idk if I should just wait around the airport for half a day
sounds unfun, but it's not like I can check into the airbnb until afternoon anyway
too bad I can't use the lounge at the arrival airport
I was in that position last time @burnt light , I recommend going to one of the dining villages / food halls, central seating surrounded by restaurants, in the Auckland CBD. Stashing your suitcase under the table and chilling with good food or a laptop is much nicer than the airport
The one I went to was an indoor one https://www.elliottstables.co.nz/ , but there are several in the area
Ohh last time I went to Elliot stables is was hella nice
the Commercial Bay food court is another one I like, https://www.commercialbay.co.nz/dine
And it's closer to the train station.
same, i'm getting in @ 6am and need to find something interesting to do until ~2pm checkin
the hotel i booked's booking email says "Please don't not hesitate to contact us"
should i be worried
Yeah nah you shouldn't not be worried.
XD
Well did you contact them?
i didnt not hesitate to
Same boat as well, getting in at 9am and gotta wait for 2pm.
Planning on dragging my feet comparing all the car rental options at the airport even though i've already pretty much decided what i'm going with
I feel the pain, airbnb checkin is only at like 1 or 3pm too
The airport does have a luggage storage service so at least I won't have to also look after that for 9 hours
How much is it?
That's about what I expected; thanks!
At Secure Travel, we aim to deliver affordable and world-class protection. We have gone to great lengths to ensure our wrapping service is unparalleled.
That's what i found about it
i wonder how many of us will be on the same plane
ty good sir, was expecting them to take advantage and charge a lot more, pretty decent pricing specially since itd in NZD
i reckon not many since theres plenty of flights options and days, but I'll be flying on the 12th of July Lisbon-Montreal-Houston-Auckland in the offshot someone here is taking same flights
Paris-Dubai-Auckland on the 13th here
someone asked me this and I have no idea: are there duty free shops in the city?
I have never heard of them outside of airports but apparently where they're from these exist in large shopping centers
there is at least one. https://www.dfs.com/en/auckland
interesting
hey anyone know when next exilcon will be? i cant mke it to this one
We didn't even know we were getting this one until they announced it.
Last Exilecon, they were pretty explicit that any future Exilecons will only happen when they feel they have enough content for it to be worth holding
So if anything, I'd expect at least 3-5 years between this one and the next one
Yeah i wouldn't expect another Exilecon after this one for a few years
Hey do I just pickup my ticket at the door when I;m in Auckland? Anyone know?
Mine was the one given to me , ViP lol
So it was transferred to my account
Have you gotten any emails from GGG support?
The specifics for ticket pick up hasn't been shared yet from what I can tell.
They have messaged me on the poe site saying the ticket is in my name and bound to my account.
But pretty much you can pick up tickets day before con, or at arrive to con. You will need photo ID with you.
So I assumed I can just show up , show my ID and yea. yup
cool thought so
thanks
hehe im Very excited
I am going to say hi to mathil if I can too, I can tell it will be easy to talk to him 😛
If you haven't already make sure you get your NZeTA or VISA done
Im lucky enough to live in NZ in the South Island
pretty much lol
Oh wait yeah, for the VIP dinner you will need to get your ticket done the day before
And if you have any dietary restrictions you need to email someone about that deadline was june 30th for that
I can eat anything 😎
I'll never forgive Mathil for cutting in front of the entire swag line to buy his merch before us normies got in
motherfucker just strolled up and went in
(but regarding content creators, as with any other convention, just don't be weird. If they are obviously out and about taking pictures/signatures/etc. from fans then go for it)
What a piece of garbage
@lilac kelp can you maybe check / do you know if there'll be a exilecon discord again?
i'm kinda travelling alone with little pre-planning what to do and a bit of copium to find some guys i can join for a few activities / travels / sightseeings / bar visits and what not before exilecon.
Coming from that far away, you might still need a NZeTA...
there will be one apparently, more information to come soon™️
for an international traveler, what's the process of landing at auckland airport like? i cant really find accounts of "first time international travel for dummies" and it would assuage my nerves to know what to expect
- Get off the plane
- Walk for a while, usually a bunch of corridors between you and border control
- Use one of the self-service gates to scan your passport and get your photo taken if you have an eligible passport, or go straight to a queue if not
- Talk with a border control agent, they'll ask you a few questions and check your passport
- Baggage claim
- Queue for customs
- Talk with a customs agent, they'll take the declaration you filled in on the plane and ask you a few questions
- Baggage goes through an x-ray and/or gets checked by a sniffer dog
- Done, head out into the public area of the terminal
- I swear to god you better not stand in the middle of the walkway like a dickhead
- Walk to rental cars (to the right), or to the buses/rideshare/taxi area as appropriate, or in the seats in front of you may be someone greeting you at the airport.
got it. thats super super helpful
and presumably not have problems unless i take something with me i'm not supposed to/etc
afaik you also get a paper to fill out on the plane you have to show to the border control agent
yea thats the declaration they mentioned right?
Oui
ouh, gotta learn to read
IIRC it's one form that both agents check
It's arrival info on one side, customs declaration on the back
anything in particular i should have printed out or an e-copy ready for for this process?
itineraries? plane tickets?
i think its best to have everything printed out still. you never know when your phone will die
you should have those for your own reference, but the only documents you need to show anywhere in the travel process are your passport, boarding pass and that arrivals form

It can be easier to communicate if your verbal English isn't as strong as your written - if you have something printed that you can offer people.
and maybe a departure form depending on your home country's regulations
and ofc i have it all in my phone on my email accounts etc but i should go to the effort to probably have a copy available at hand just in case
yes, would recommend having printed copies of things
at the very least your booking reference for the flights, just in case that's needed when checking in (usually they only need your passport)
But tbh it's not a huge airport, and it's relatively well signposted (however may have construction going on).
im probably worrying a bit too much but i just wanna be prepared and all
thanks all
my first international travel alone too. Last one with my family even dates back 15 years. going to be interesting
I was travelling NZ > Charlotte, USA > TN, USA for my first solo travel ever as a 20yo, and didn't realise that I didn't need to pick up my bags in Charlotte.
So I was panicking bc my bags were obviously not at baggage claim, and then ran to the info desk who kindly informed me that my bags were already on my flight, but there the flight had already closed and there was no way they could let me on it. So they rebooked me on the next flight. BUt I didn't have any mobile data, and wifi was pay-only (and I hadn't thought to change money over yet), so I couldn't tell my family in TN who were waiting for me.
I tried to collect-call them, but they didn't pick up (they were driving), so just spent 3 hrs pretty much crying and desperately hoping that everything would be ok in the end.
It was, but it was very very stressful.
wild to have an airport without free wifi o.o
It was a while ago, I imagine they've caught up to the tech now. :>
I mean border control is a whole process
Not like they'll just have someone accidentally go past anything
Plus you can always just follow others
Currently planning to pick up a sim card from one of the international terminal shops shortly after landing, having full data right on the ground is always great. Looks like at least one of those shops is open until 2:30am as well.
syn calling me out before I even do it.
I have so much internal rage when people just standing in the middle of the walkway and other groups have to awkwardly try to get around them.

Lil kiosk on the left side before border control is where you want to pick one up (duty free)
apparently we have that with our plan?
my wife says something about us having simple global roaming in new zealand
Yeah many providers have international options. Mine has 25GB/month for free in NZ but that's just not going to be enough
Does anyone know how much customs care about your perception meds
Do we have to bring the labels
Quick google search brought up NZ customs page https://www.customs.govt.nz/personal/travel-to-and-from-nz/medicines/
Oh i don’t know if i have the original containers
Generally you either need the prescription or original bottle w/ your name on it while traveling.
so if you have the papers proving what it is, you're likely fine. The OG bottle is better though if at all possible
I would call your pharmacy to see if you can get a new but empty bottle showing it is what it is
Verizon here, 10$ every 24 hours the device pulls data from a tower.
My phone's sim card tray is stuck
I just changed to a phone provider in Aus that doesn't do international roaming so I'll likely have to pick up a cheap local one, last time I had a little look these ones seemed like the way to go
https://www.spark.co.nz/shop/mobile-plans/travel-pack/
Our NZ Travel Packs with SIM are perfect for travelling in New Zealand. From $29, includes data and international minutes. At Spark stores plus AKL/CHCH airports.
Not long nowwww
Kia ora. Travelling NZ with my family since last Sunday. Can't wait for exilecon end of July
Does anyone know if I can get a local phone card with esim?
This is if I can't get my phone fixed in time
"Lil kiosk on the left side before border control is where you want to pick one up (duty free)" verify with @bright hemlock
Yep. It's a little Spark kiosk that has the advantage of being in the duty-free area so you save a couple of bucks
What is tax like in NZ
VAT and GST both are 15% (reduced GST is 9%)
in terms of the sim cards that translate into 68 NZD for the 50GB plan in duty free area, 79 NZD if you grab it at the main kiosk after the security checkpoint
anybody that's ever been to Waikeke and could comment on whether the winery tours are worth it? couldn't fit it into my schedule last time around so i'm keen to going now if they're worth it. if they're not i still have winetopia 😄
Was anyone going to hobbiton from Auckland? What company are you using for bus? Like I was wondering if there was a bus to hobbiton that includes the dinner. (Edit: Booked a day trip out since dinner was sold out. Went with flexitours)
well i believe they are all sold out....
yeah i answered him on the unofficial exilecon discord, they're all gone until aug 20
what exile con discord?
one that's been going since 2019 and has been repurposed recently 😄
btw, in case someone else is interested in renting a car during their stay, it's actually quite cheap (unless yo ugo with Europcar, so don't)
less than 500 NZD a week cheap
If you're purchasing something in a store or from a vendor, the price you're looking at (on the tag etc) will be the price you will pay. There's no variation in tax amounts due to location (eg no state vs federal tax).
If something excludes GST/tax then it will usually be clearly labelled as such.
You shouldn't get any surprises at the cashier.
any locals know of good fitness centers in the cbd? preferably not too far from the conv center
You're into lifting weights?
more into rowing and long distance running
Ya hobbit dinner is sold out. That sucks
theres city fitness on queens street a few blocks down Aotea Square
thanks, looked it up and it's actually very close to my hotel so that's perfect for me
in july, that might be too optimistic
Sometimes they put off the tours if the water level is too high, iirc.
could we get a link? 🙂
Now I regret leaving it lul
I did the same thing. Any way I can get a link as well. Ty
i agree, it would be nice if someone would post it
nth'ing that request!
is anyone from ggg still in it? I'd imagine that they'll just make a new server instead of reusing the old one though
viper did say there'll probably be one
I'd also take an invite to the old server ;P
same pls
Looks like we're not getting one... LET'S MAKE OUR OWN, HA! (or not)
again, there apparently is an official one being made (unsure whether it's the old one being updated or a completely new one), and more info will come soon™️
On our way to mt taranaki. Hopefully no rodent control...
More infos for exilecon appreciated 🙂
Alright, thanks!
Hopefully that's not the same soon ™️ as the one for Ultimatum coming back...
They're probably just saving ultimatum announcement for the con anyway
Makes sense now that people are bandwagoning on fake nostalgia
Hey, it's not fake for me, I liked the Ultimatum mechanic a lot! Don't remember too much about the league itself though, just that I played Death's Oath...
Saw some people looking for hobbiton tours, seems a lot are sold out (specificially the days I'm there :/ ) but this tour group at least seems to have a few still open.

for those looking for other activities since hobbiton seems to be about a 2hr drive from auckland, I did a bit of a map with some other stuff I'll be going to out in the area - staying in rotorua for a couple days for the parks nearby:
If anyone is planning on heading to the south island, I have a few places to recommend:
Firstly, Queenstown. This is the tourist capital of the country and has a lot of great activities, specialising in "extreme" activities like skydiving, jet boating, etc. Be warned though, it's very expensive to do just about anything there.
Secondly, Hanmer springs. This place is a 90 minute drive away from Christchurch and is a great spot to just relax for a few days - they boast some great thermal pools and restaurants.
Lastly is Mt. Cook or Mt Hutt. These are both great Ski fields, with Mt. Cook being a bit harder to get to but is the best ski field of the country. They both also offer spectacular views, both on and off the mountain.
Aside from these, some other things to check out would be Fox Glacier, Arthur's Pass, Milford Sound, and Lake Tekapo.
thanks for the link, although I thought it was the old official one from last time
It was, that's all we got until G3 gives us something else.
nah this is balormage's
Hey y'all. I just bought 2 exilecon tickets for a friend and myself. Both tickets are under my name.. anyone know if this will be a problem?
I'd just email support. They'd be the best one's to ask.
Ive Been wondering Are Any other Finnish PPL comin to exilecon
I know 1 person besides myself
would be fun to get a demographic chart
🥖 represent
For a second there I was like... you are bread? Band-aid? (And then for a moment I thought it was a veiled reference to eggplant emoji), before it clicked properly.
🤣
He's the people of the yeast
i could have gone with 🥐
Worshipper of the oblong obelisk
🇫🇷 (is this the right flaggo?)
that would be a yes

The salon flag
Heads up we have plenty of roadworks and motorway closures (usually overnight) please try to plan around them if you plan to drive around NZ

Those are some big wetas!
just checking to confirm but legal alcohol limit when driving is 0.00025 right? as in 1 wine glass absolute tops
If you're 20 and over, and being calc'd as breath alcohol, yes.
great thanks. there's only one evening where it might matter for me so i'll play it safe and book a B&B
If you're under 20, the limit is a big fat 0
F the children for this trip
Yeah, but NZ drinking age is 18, so at least they can imbibe if they want to.
fair
Also don't f the children tho
ykwim
i have enough respect for other travelers that i won't bring a 2yo on such long flights if i can work around it
I always get toddlers on long flights
that is probably the worst memory i keep from last time. there was this baby that couldn't help but cry for a straight 6h and his mother couldn't give a F
and that was in business too...
I was hoping to avoid that in business
But anyway it's not like the mother can do much
TSA won't allow chloroform onboard
well you can always try to soothe the baby or sing it a lullaby or something. she just was on her noise cancelling headphones and just regular entitled B mode when an attendant woke her up saying her child was preventing others from sleeping
That's why Noise cancelling headphones will be of potential great help 😉
Nah babies have noise pen
Im trying to stay a bit unplugged during the trip, got a bunch of books and graphic novels to read on the flight instead
WFH on a computer all day...yeah I need the screen detox for sure
i'll be sleeping on my first flight so doesn't matter much (9pm to 6am Paris to Dubai), but the second and longest flight from Dubai to Auckland is basically all during the day for the first 10 hours
thankfully i got myself 2 episodes of critical role to watch during that time so i should be gucci
so i know there's strict laws in NZ regulating any kinds of weapons but from what i've seen, i'm allowed to bring a camping knife right?
just not carry it on me.
also, for whoever's travelling from Europe and using a Visa card, here's the latest info about fees and exchange rate (unless you specifically got a 0% fee card, this is the markup you'll be charged for paying in NZD)
if you have a 0% card, here's the info:
no clue what the Mastercard rate is
but probably around 0.8% also
Prohibited:
< Any knife having a blade that opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring, or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife (sometimes known as a flick knife or flick gun).
< Any knife having a blade that is released from the handle or sheath by the force of gravity or the application of centrifugal force, and that, when released, is locked in place by means of a button, spring, lever, or other device (sometimes known as a gravity knife or butterfly knife).
< Any knife, with the exception of a folding pocket knife with a blade less than 10 cm in length, that—
(a) is designed for ease of concealment on the person; or
(b) has a blade with at least 2 edges that is designed or suitable for stabbing or throwing (as opposed to cutting); or
(c) is a knife of any of the kinds sometimes known as a fist knife, gimlet knife, punch dagger, push dagger, push dirk, push knife, T-handled knife, or throwing knife.
legend ❤️
so yeah my good ol' camping knife from my days in the military is ok
coz i didn't wanna go on a road trip without my trusted pocket knife
I am, driving tho...
yeah same, better to drive i think
Hiya. Sorry I should of updated my question. I booked already. Taking flexitours
at least for me it's a no brainer since i'm going in the evening
I drove there last time and almost got into an accident a number of times.
Best to just have someone else take the wheel
that's what insurance is there for 🤷
i'd rather drive and be the master of my own time than be dependent on somebody else
Driving was pretty fun, on the wrong side of the car, and wrong side of the road. Definitely made me pay more attention
yeah that's the best thing about driving abroad. you must pay real attention to what you're doing, as opposed to being completed chilled and ignoring most of what's going on in front of you when at home
Yup that’s right, especially after being up for over 24 hours
well idk about that, but i booked a rental at the airport for the whole of next week so if anybody has any fun ideas (except on the 18th and early morning of 19th as i'll be in matamata) i got 3 empty seats
Had to keep saying stay on the left. Look right!
is it wrong of me to keep hyping myself up by watching Chris' closing speech from 2019 over and over?
Haha only slightly
that speech was great though
most people had already left (why would you leave an afterparty before it ends???) and Chris was super emo
I recall leaving the afterparty early because I had to be at the airport at like 4am the next morning
you get a pass 😄
but yeah, there were like, maybe 100 of us left at that point
shit i'm way too hyped for this
just realized i still have 18.24 NZD from last time. no idea why i brought back so many coins but hey, at least i'll have some change
What's this?
Looks like I left the convention at 1130pm
Oh I found your video. I watched it before and again just now. What was the time when this happened?
I think if I want to go there I want to book a plane ticket 5 years in advance.... Too damn expensive
Or maybe just stop spending money on shit I don't need
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Hey guys could someone dm me the link to the repurposed discord for exilecon?
Just sent it to you now. :)
You're the best 🫡
Kinda curious how many other exiles ended up having the 'Holiday' part of your NZ trip after the con instead of before it. I was already starting to plan a snow trip for early august when con2 got annonced so it made things easy in that regards
Can you please send this to me as well? I'm driving around Northland since 4th of July trying to get hyped for exilecon.
Has anyone the link to Chris closing speech at hand?
@warped steeple im also doing my new zealand trip after the con until august 6th
Timestamp on source says 11:27pm
Can someone dm me the old exilecon discord link?
Sure thing
ty
Mind sending me the exilecon discord link as well?
I'm arriving 1-2 days before Exilecon and leaving mid-August which I think is the reverse of most people here
That's how I planned mine as well @dry wraith
Boarding in an hour. Can't freaking wait
I'd like a link to the exilecon discord as well, if possible
me too please
Sent you both one, if you hadn't got it already
Might as well pin it in this channel
@naive jackal hi, did you send me one as well? I'm not sure how the discord app will show these messages 😄 just installed it on the road
Have dm'd you one too
Just booked the Hobbiton Tour and Lunch Combo 10:10am at Saturday 22nd of July with my family. Maybe there are some fellow exiles. 🍺
@naive jackal would you be so kind to send me an invite to the discord too?
Done!
I don't think anyone ever messaged me, if you don't mind
Done!
do keep in mind that afaik, its not confirmed that ggg will use that same server this time around
It's the best we got at the moment, but it's not official.
Was that the actual official server? Why can't I find my old posts?
Unsure, might have to ask the server admins
I did send you a link yesterday
Oh, sorry, missed the notification...
All good 😊 what matters is you got access to what everyone's been planning in terms of meetups and such
@naive jackal would you mind inviting me to the discord sir?
Gotcha back, fam
If you're handing out discord invites, I'd love one.
Is it possible to just post a permanent invite link and pin it here? Since we're gonna be seeing that for the next two weeks, lol
(Also, may I please get an invite)
Exilecon discord? Sign me up!
also keen for exilecon discord(!)
Eta to home is like 30min, I can DM y'all then, if someone hasn't already.
no rush, and they might do an official one right?
Gx3 has something jnt he works (soon tm) which I imagine will be pinned as soon as it's available
@paper talon @short coyote @stiff hill @carmine ginkgo All y'all have an inv now
gimme too!
Could i also grab an invite when possible please?
If there is a whole discord for exilecon, I would also love an invite!
@icy gorge sent!
Joining the wagon, can I also grab an invite
Sent
Can someone send an invite? Thanks!
It has been performed
there is an exilecon discord?! me me pweaaaaaase 😄
really keep to see if ppl are doing any fun trips and days rather than hanging around the hotel for 3 days before 😄
People are! I saw a couple small meetup posts around
Lots of things have been posted so far, small group going to restaurants together in the evenings, poe trivia meetup, ideas about what to do as well
EDIT: (Taken care of.) Might as well join the invite train if someone can pass one over. I've got my Hobbiton booked for that week, but considering other activities the week prior as we get closer.
Hooked you up
Cool. Just waiting for my invite please 🙏
Sorry thought you'd been taken care of as well. Remedied that oversight
Thanks!!
Nice, we got unlimited 🍕 as a snack on the flight
Can I get an invite to the exilecon discord?
I'd love an invite as well!
Sent to ya both
Keep in mind though that this is an unofficial discord we've kept going from last time. And although plans are being made over there, most people will join the official Exilecon discord once GGG opens that up
Hello I'll be in NZ from July 22 to Aug 1st. I think I'll rent a car and backpack around NZ and do some hikes. I'm flying in from California happy to join others
Please invite to discord please 🙂
for everybody who's booked a room/suite at Quest on Hobson, the WiFi is actually quite decent. Not blazing fast, but quite decent.
Anyone doing or have done scuba diving out there? I just found out I can make it out there so trying to put together a plan last minute.
Haven't done it myself, but Goat Island to the north of Auckland is a popular spot
lmk if u are in north island, I may join
hi all, can anyone grab me an invite to the discord?
Yeet
Unfortunately I won't be attending Exilecon in person. I know its a bit late for this but I do still have an Ultra VIP ticket that I need to part ways with. If interested my DMs are open.
Man that sucks
But hey, that means someone who missed out initially has an extra opportunity
he probably got spammed real quick yeah
gonna have to deal with the GGG side of things though, as the prep emails about that dinner were supposed to have been answered by now
(as in the one for the transport was sent 3 weeks ago)
@bright hemlock Are you also going to the UVIP dinner?
yes
I think there were a couple ultra vip tickets that got put back in the pool recently as well - a couple weeks ago support reached out to me to see if I wanted to upgrade (and did)
yeah i mean
i personaly don't understand why you'd go and splurge on that ticket and not book everything else or make sure you were going to be able to come
but i also understand that sometimes life doesn't give you a choice
Pfff with how much the rest of the trip cost, I'm going no matter what
that's the thing though with NZ
flights costs a lot but everything else here is cheap af
thought i'd post it here as well but, if others who are going to be staying at Quest on Hobson wanna know what's available in terms of the kitchen utensils and stuff, or what's available at the convenience store that is right next door to the hotel, please dm me and i'll send you the pics i took
Nice. I'll see ya there 😄
And @pure leaf too!
i speculatively bought the ticket some months before i knew i was going, never mind booked anything
mostly because i didn’t think there would be leftover tickets, and didn’t want to miss out on being able to go
i mean that's fine, i just personally don't understand why one would spend $2k on a conv ticket and not plan for flights & accommodations, even if you wanted to spread the expenses a bit and book em a bit later
Hey, could I please get an invite to the exile con discord as well?
Done!
Same here 😄
May I get an invite to the exilecon discord? @naive jackal ? just got my ticket.
dm'ed u
Hey guys, do we have any idea what time the badge pickup on friday will be?
I think they said they'd be sending out another email a week before with further details so that should be going out in the next few days.
Can I get in to exilecon discord for this year?
There's no official discord yet. Only an unofficial one we kept running since 2019
I'll send you an invite to that in a few
@bright hemlock looking for an invite to the exilecon discord when you have a minute, thanks.
sent
Hey, just saw there's a discord for Exilcon, can i get an invit as well ? 👀 Thanks a lot ! :D
Sent
i maybe should have said i sent him an invite too 😄
Gah
could I please get an invite as well?
sent
thanks
me too plz
Sent
The server is for anyone attending or?
It's a server that was made in 2019 foe meetups, trading cards and lotsa things
Anybody who requests an invite gets sent one, we don't discriminate
But it's not the official discord for Exilecon. That one GGG will share when they are ready to
Is there a live stream schedule for ExileCon yet? or when the stream will start?
There's a countdown on the website
thanks!
I only been checking this site lol, https://www.pathofexile.com/exilecon
As for the schedule, that'll come closer to the con. Last time it was released 5 days prior i think, so i'd expect Monday
goal for the schedule is friday
Do you have maybe an ETA on the official discord? Friday as well, as part of the schedule announcement?
it sounded like the official discord was going to be provided alongside the rest of the con materials when you check in (28th) like last time
so community discord it is until then
You're a legend
Chur Novynn
There are two Exilecon Discord servers, one created by GGG, and one created by community memberd. Check them out below:
GGG Official Exilecon Discord: https://discord.com/invite/U4sexqzPnp
Community Exilecon Discord: https://discord.gg/uA5qZ45K6
Ayy there it is. We friendly in there. Cookies and all (last part might not be entirely true)
I mod it along with balor, not that there's much moderating to do. All are welcome, the more the merrier!
Looking to sell my extra Exilecon Ultra VIP ticket if anyone still wants one, not planning on attending the dinner(i will be practicing) so would rather it go to someone who will and I will just use my vip ticket. dm if interested, we can work smthin out
wanna meet chris? go buy Nick's ticket
may i get an invite to the exilecon discord, going aswell
ty spikey lol

me too
dang there are a surprising amount of ultra vip tickets going up for sale
where do u even see them for sale ?
gotta watch them tweets
does anyone remember how much the ultra vip pass was?
2000 usd
oh thats cool
We managed to get one vip and one normal ticket. I messaged them, that i would like to upgrade mine, if there is a chance. A few days later, there was a new batch of tickets and i got an email to upgrade. I did obviously 🙂
what was the price on it ?
when i did vip->ultra it was the exact difference in price between the 2
I remember waking up when the tickets were first on sale. I saw the 10 ultra VIP tickets available in that first minute... there was no way, of course, but there was something slightly tempting given t0 rarity.
However, those of you without such tickets (including me) can probably rest assured that it's only really worth the price if you want to buy in access to a party which already includes many guests of the devs (based on comments from an Ultra VIP ticket holder last con). So VIP if you want the pre-dinner (or I suppose you -really- want merch) and Ultra only if you want to help defray the convention costs. XD
I don't remember much about what people said about the ultra vip. Was there pictures or videos?
That's not to say that for some it won't be worth it, of course. It could well be depending on the person and this was only one ticket-holders view.
Ohh after reading it again I do slightly remember reading this post before but thanks for the refresher.
Ya. I think probably too many streamers
It is kind of a shame when so many people were invited when you have some people pay 2k for the experience.
It's like everyone knows the streamers. They are probably more sociable and probably spoke with them before.
So cool that theres devs from diablo II coming. I'm super excited !!!
also id love a photo with mathil not gonna lie ❤️
i dunno if that will happen lol
Tbh i don't feel like you can take Gwaer's experience as a definite "that's how it's gonna be". Also if you see someone hogging a dev you wanna talk to, after a while just force yourself in there. If you wait for people to be done chatting with devs to approach em, it's just never happening.
Also about content creators, i feel like people are jealous of them for no reason. They're cheap marketing for GGG so ofc they're going to get perks. Nobody's stopping you from doing what they do if u want the same perks
I do wonder what the experience is going to be. What will it be for you?
Anyone know approx what time ExileCon will start?
There is a countdown https://pathofexile2.com/
Little reminder that Multi was nice enough to pin a link to the community discord we're using to setup meets and activities for people that already are in NZ. So feel free to come join us
Rain pls go away 😢
should clear up a bit Friday evening
ExileCon 2023, the second official Path of Exile convention, is in a week! We have updated the ExileCon web page with the schedule for the event:
https://t.co/gf5mqEcgrk
If you're attending the convention, check out this news post:
https://t.co/D4Cvx57lW4
104
^ GGG made their own official Exilecon Discord, I updated the pins in this channel to link both of them!
i saw the schedule and keynote is 1.5 hours long wich i love it, have to split it on 3 sections obviously, poe 2, poe mobile and the next league
anyone remember how long was the first keynote at the first exilecon?
Close to the same IIRC
looks like it was one hour last time https://web.archive.org/web/20191116060413/pathofexile.com/exilecon
Algun latino que va asistrir a la expo?? XD
conspiracy theory, exilecon 2 is just a scheme to get rid of the warehouse of exilecon 1 merch they're still sitting on
https://nitter.net/bexsayswords/status/1684029483530199040 if you (like me) aren't logged into twitter and want to see the whole thread
I prefer the last one, but obviously I'm biased
We found the pink elephant - the boot as well but we didn't take a foto
Hi, Will any of ExileCon be livestreamed or published on YT later ?
details / schedule here:
https://www.pathofexile.com/exilecon
purple-border events are streamed live, most things will be uploaded to youtube at a later date
no 3.22 in the schedule
Part of the keynote will be about 3.22
thanks
28h7m
I've got 2 predictions for Exilecon:
- Blight Heart boss fight finally being added as a final boss for Blight content.
- Sanctum being reworked for Standard.
I would be hyped for some sort of rework of sanctum but I don't think we'll get it back so soon. I could be proven wrong but idk
Has it been confirmed who the mystery player Guraste is? Is he showing up for the race?
where will all of the exilecon livestreams be officially livestreamed?
all of the other details are on the website except for the link where the livestream can be viewed
ok cool, thanks
even the twitch link on the website links to the game's game directory on twitch and not to their channel. strange oversight haha.
cuz LOT of streamer will restream it
and you will be able to interact wwith them and their chat
@lilac kelp I noted you are somehow associated to ggg, so apologies for tagging. But is it confirmed who is showing up for the race? I’d really love to know if I bother tuning in live….
I can’t seem to find an answer elsewhere online.
i wish viper dont answer so you are forced to tune in live
Cool place
if you're asking who the mystery player is, I don't believe that's been confirmed
😡
(not publicly that is)
I haven’t even checked the schedule, I am only interested in the race tbh.
Does the race start today?
that rude for all the hard work GGG put in the whole Event
Ice level confirmed
Feels like I’m the only one. And I’m less interested if it’s just the other 3 minus Guraste
I’m really hoping the trip I made was worth it
I just follow the trail of 30-something years old neckbeards, right?
Gosh, discord lagged and didn’t see your response. Thanks @lilac kelp
youve joined the exilcon discord ?
No. Is there one?
@frigid hamlet relax, I’m excited for exilecon, I just plan to go about my weekend normally and not have my eyes glued to the screen. But I’ve followed the race and enjoying the mystery of Guraste. So I will make a point to actually have my eyes glued to the screen for that part if it’s the original qualifiers.
@grim notch sounds like you are actually there, you’d know better than me if the race started! 😂 I will check the schedule later. Anyway, you sound like a lost tourist, I hope you find fellow Exiles to help guide you soon.
Lol good thing I’m not into mainstream pop
Exilecon starts in like 6 hours?
Nope
