and while you can start leveling exsang gem from lvl 12 full gem setup can be assembled from level 38 if I remember it right, that's the minimal level of minefield gem I think? so that's end of the act 5 usually

step 1: acquire the ~3-5 mirrors you need to fund the build

as for me I usually modify those build and experiment a bit like I usually use 2 daggers which give +2 levels to exsang from each - the reason is I like whirling blades movement skill more than shield charge

anyway 2 major key points for this build are:

1. exsang skill LOVES additional levels that come from items, so don't sacrifice offence with some defence there as you will have a weak build, sources of those additional levels are amulet (dragonfang replica best with +3 until you can get focused +2/+2 which is quite costly and it may happen that you'll finish challenges first before you'll get it ;]), weapons (possibly both with +1/+1 so 2 levels from each), armour (either some with certain mods or dialla's if you have resists and suppression from elsewhere)

2. mine throwing speed (don't forget about it!), it should be as a mod on both weapons, and possibly from medium clusters with Guerilla tactics (at least on 2 such clusters, if you don't want to flex you don't need more)

and don't need to fully explore areas if you already found the points of interest (entrances/exits, quest items)
