The story is part of why I want to play H:FW, just to see where it goes.

The mechanics definitely start to feel a bit solved, somewhat mitigated by going up in difficulties.

Yeah, didn't grab me. I played a fair bit of the initial linear game, learned a lot about where the game could go and the mechanical weirdness it went into, but I didn't like the tendency for bricked runs and having to replay early areas.
