yeah nvidia is fine nowadays. it used to be worse (and youll still have a mid experience on some distros like alpine or similar), but now its fine. and yes you can play non-steam games. you can play most windows games and use most windows applications without an issue on linux.
i recommend cachyos because it has good nvidia support without any effort
