The counting criteria is "Atlas Bonus Objectives" - which for normal maps are completing them magic/rare/rare-corrupt for white/yellow/red map base types. The same thing you do to get the lit circle around maps on your atlas and map stash. For unique maps it's usually just completing the map.
There's also a bunch of squares that are kept behind various other feats like defeating bosses or a T16+ map.

if its more than a couple years old consider re-pasting it with some high qual thermal paste too

it is possible for high temperature to do that, especially on the cpu, it can shut down to protect itself if it goes obscenely high

step 1 is definitely checking the cpu temps when the game is running
any more troubleshooting can be done after checking that
