I would say get to where you can beat the main path down a few times, and then start modding it however you like. Checkpoints for exploring the wider world where you totally lose out on holy mountains makes it much less reliant on rng or the same 2 strats

The difficulty spike once you go off the main path is a sheer cliff, there are no more health refills until you go into parallel worlds. Basically, you either find a way to infinite heal with a spell or pheremoned hisii healer or you get worn down over the gigantic world
because the main path is like 25% of the map at most
highly recommend some way to heal or res with mods, this lets you experiment with stuff more too
also the devs have a built in mod of pretty high quality, by default on the mods page there's Random Starting Loadouts with various wizard types and associated custom robes/starting perks
