It's usually based on what your build struggles with. If you are getting frozen, ignited or shocked a lot, take the ailment threshhold, if you get stunned a lot, take stun threshold, otherwise take mana regen.

Oh for monk don't go with stun threshold, go mana regen or ailment threshold, you have easy access to some very powerful stun threshold nodes on the tree that base it off your ES instead of life.

Abasement and it's 2 leadup nodes with high enough ES basically means nothing outside of bosses can stun you, and for boss stuns you have stone charm

Hello guys idk if this is the right place for POB questions but just wanted to ask the mechanics of this change.

For context, i got this half-done staff shown on the screenshot. I tested swapping into this staff but the skill dps counters in-game (the ones next to the skill gems) are showing less dps in my two main skills. I don't rly trust it much, but since the drop was significant enough I tested it in POB just to make sure. The POB dps counter does say it's an increase, but now as you can see the max hits are all saying negative and yet the full dps is positive. So I'm left wondering whats up with it? I also checked in the Calcs Tab for individual skills and yes it's a dps increase, but i really wanna make sure cause I might've missed something in POB that's making it look higher dps than it actually is. Anyway, I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks.

i lose around 400 mana, which should be only like 16% on archmage. i think losing the other "gain extra lightning mod" probably mattered more. but i also have a considerable amount of "gain extra element" mods from archmage and the passive tree so i was thinking that was getting diminishing returns, not the spell damage. either way the staff is unfinished so i will figure out more once i actually complete it.

IM STUPID, I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT
Turns out that the +8 intelligence that my previous staff had was gluing my entire build together. Basically, when i swapped out my staff, i barely didnt have enough int for archmage and a bunch of other stuff, so they were turned off for the dps calcs lmao. I now moved some attributes around, and after checking my new staff, my dps improved significantly. woopps my bad

Like the 3% recoup to mana, life, and ES still works (I think), not 100% sure on that. I believe ES leech should work, based on wording, but I have no evidence.

Also obviously make sure you have enough armor

I mean, if you're going with that node in particular, I'd say you want more armor until you're consistently keeping max ES. Hard to know what that balance is.

If you're always out of ES, then you don't have enough armor to recoup it. If you're always at max ES, you don't have enough ES to utilize the recoup from armor

So yeah, somewhere there's a balance that's about right.

Yes, buff expiry rate seems to be additive (so -55% from temp chains + -20% on tree leads to all buffs being exactly 4 times as long)

However, there seems to be a hard-coded cap on how low it can go, and it's exactly 75%. It's impossible to get infinite duration buffs this way

the +200 armour per point in body armour combined with bear's 10 armour per character level is huge, too. ends up being like 2500 armour endgame

highly recommend this for any HC or SSF melee enjoyers. absolutely smooth sailing after first ascendancy, where I took chaos damage armour and unaffected by damaging ailments

You can easily lightning arrow up to 32 then swap. Forget the name of the other lvl 1 bow gem for the little lightning pylon things but grab that too and put multishot on it for extra boss damage.
Get the ice bow skill at level 6 and put ice bite onto it

Pretty sure 4 socket staff is an exceptional base starting with 3 sockets then corrupted for 4th socket

As for the base gem levels you might need to manually down the gem to 21 and then add the skill gems it'll likely be the same total for whatever fuckery POB is experiencing but good way to double check

i think its hand down the strongest starter by a mile in a non trade environment. It’s tanky, has good clear compared to other starters and has great damage

Pathfinder isn’t too far from Monk starter on the tree. You can do either straight ES or ES/EV hybrid using the nodes that boost ES per evasion and so on

You definitely have some good ES nodes close to sorcerer start

As for expected ES it depends a lot on the budget of your build as well as level

I think that can be something that’s avoided. I don’t see why you would even need that node to be honest unless you’re speed running for some odd reason. I feel like sprinting and not being heavy stunned is bait. You’d have to stop sometime to fight and if you’re pathfinder you’re going to be fighting from range anyways

Can someone please explain to me how the “gain #% of damage as extra [elemental] damage” is calculated? Like if Im building a frost mage should I get cold for even more cold damage or is it better to add a different element type? Im assuming that would somewhat depend on how much of my gear and passives buff all elemental damage or spell damage and how much specifically buffs cold

well, the key part is what you're gaining it as

let's say you're a cold build and have tons of increased cold and more cold etc.

then when you gain as fire, that's going to be fire damage and not affected by those modifiers, so that would be pretty mediocre value

on the other hand, if you had just invested into generic spell damage and the such then it would be just as effective

but if you do just have lots of increased cold, only gain as cold will be efficiently benefiting from your build

Awesome thanks. Thats how I assumed it worked. Ive seen a lot of builds on poe ninja with cold builds that have an alternate elemental damage added on their staff. Maybe they have more generic + to spell damage buffs and the alternate elemental types added help make their damage more rounded so their overall DPS is higher since enemy resistances may change depending on enemy

I typically try to maximize one damage type and get enemy resistance reductions when I play other arpgs like Grim Dawn and Last Epoch

Like say you have a flask that does 100 life over 2 seconds, but it’s completely instant. Is that 100 life instantly, limited by your click rate? So if you clicked 5 times in a second you’d get 500 life per second?

Is the upper limit of that click rate server tick rate (roughly 30x a second?)
