you might have a better time going poison conc with pathfinder i think, i remember they nerfed the fuck out of it because the uniquebow + quiver nodes were giving too many levels to it, but might still be decent
witchhunter/amazon has better time early because the spec provides better damage for free

Friend is asking about this but can he do a smith of kitava spear build? He wants a floating spear and is hoping for decent synergy between the two
while most agree that the manifest weapon is pretty bad in terms of damage it is totally viable to play it
theres quite a few smiths out there using spears
most still prefer the good old mace tho

I don’t remember it being this bad in Poe 1 but this lightning spear build needs all 3 attributes for a hybrid energy setup lmao. Idk it just sucks struggling and juggling attributes all the time. I actually juggle them around

warrior has a lot of realy good attack nodes
and has access to avatar of fire if you want to scale fire damage
lvl 19 lightning spear requires 191 dex requirement
just makes sure you get equal amount strength as you do dexterity
warriors has easier access to armour nodes
only reason to path to other side of tree would be if you want to scale evasion
you can get away with evasion armour hybrid if you want to path to merc area
but I do not advice pathing to ranger area as its a waste of points
unless you realy want that electrocute buildup for combat frenzy
it is the only way to reliably generate frenzy charges after all
fangs of frost is pretty fun for single target if you plan to use parry a lot or elemental sundering if you have a way to apply a lot of ailments over a wide area

leap slam has bad mobility but its used for stun buildup

Ohh Bad mobility? I’ve seen people just constantly leap but because you can animation cancel it, it bypasses that. I’ve also seen shield charge as another mobility skill

between shield charge and leap slam. shield charge has much faster movement but can be stopped by an enemy whereas leap slam doesnt have that issue but leap slam also covers less ground

they all run blood magic because there is no way to scale mana or mana regen

and with all the defensive nodes you get its almost a no brainer

When giants blood got nerfed, I didn’t know if this would be a joke keystone or unrealistic keystone to get which irritated me. I heard it scales a bit different in Poe 1 but in Poe 2, it is a colossal damage increase
it is a bit hard to get strength later on in campaign if you are broke
like my hammer atm requires 406 strength
next one is 636
so you need a lot of strength gear which can be hard if you also have build enabling uniques
like say deepest tower helmet or infernoclasp belt
so that smith ascendancy with +20% strength is almost mandatory if you run giants blood

depends on what youre going to do in the end
if your goal is to stack poisons i'd move to wasting/fast acting toxins
IIRC you can have up to 6 gas clouds
and you can get 6 projectiles with grenade xbow*, scattershot and cluster bombs
so you'd never go for more than 3 stacks in gems/tree if you plan on just using gas cloud for venoms

Primal, martial, heft, fork are all good options. Depends on what else you have. Personally I use Volt, Fork, Primal Armament, Perpetual Charge, Martial Tempo. I'm considering changing out martial but it's useful to get ritual over and done with. I one-shot all trash and rares so doing it faster just werks

question for lightning spear folks: is electrocute a super necessary thing to include in builds? i did lightning monk in 0.1 and loved using kitoko's, but looking at lightning spear builds on poe.ninja (obvious grain of salt here), it looks like the only electrocute generation is on herald of thunder which doesn't really do anything for bossing

i think i really liked electrocute as a defensive thing, since it disables enemies (even bosses) for a solid period of time.

Yea it’s definitely beneficial especially if you can get the build up pretty high. Other than that, the investment may not be worth it.
If its increased/decreased area of presence they should be summd togheder in the same % pool before being applied i think

Explosions can count as hits, but Herald of ash does not. It Ignites everything around the enemy that was killed but does not hit

Question on Gemling, I chose the asc node doubling inherent attribute bonus, can anyone explain to me what that means and how it interacts with the 20% less attributes?
I assumed I get double attributes and then 20% less but in total I had less strength than before (doing str stack)
You get twice as much Life per point of strength, but you have 20% less strength
Same for mana and accuracy for int/dex
Ohh so I get hp not the attribute itself <facepalm> ..shoulda have read properly silly me 😅
So Gemling is not that nice of an attribute stacker then 🤔
if you want the acc/mana/life it's good
if you want to get more mileage from "x per y dex/str/int" bonuses on gear its bad
or just take the small passives you get like 6% attributes poog

I used the caster caterlist on my rings and got alot more DPS than the lighting one ( both mods were max rolls )

My ring has T1 cast speed and lighting damage ( got 2 of them ) I used the lighting cat DPS was around 29k on spark then used the caster on and got around 31.3k dps

Get more critical hit chance. If you're an Amazon with the critical strikes node, then getting accuracy can also help
Also some Crit jewels that go up to 15% but I'm not sure how much 15% on a jewel converts on the tooltip

since kaom's removes all spirit

cast on crit is a persistent buff hence why it wont work if you have no spirit
and choir of the storm is a unique that bypasses that by casting lightning bolt on crit

Dark effigy might be worth using on a poison build as well. 20% quality on it = 20% chance to wither on hit

The focus is still granting es, but I think it gets turned into mana after its final es value is determined

It makes sense as a local modifier, but, not sure what the order is when on the tree.
EB will turn all ES from gear into mana but if you use something like everlasting gaze you still get ES and in this way % increased ES on tree will still work
but % ES from tree will not increase mana in any way
This wording is slightly different than the % maximum ES though. I have no maximum ES to modify, so it makes sense that those don't work. But, I do have ES on gear still.

It looks like you're right, as far as I can tell, there's no benefit from the "X% inc ES from Equipped Y" on the tree.

It's not too bad actually. I've got CI, MoM, and about to take EB. I mostly wanted to just make a build where Darkness worked. I've been surprised by how good Darkness feels as a defensive layer. It's like getting 600 free ES.
I'm not sure, to be honest. I don't think it would? There's nothing logically wrong with an enemy being flagged as both full life and low life... But I have no idea
Obviously there's no life value that can satisfy both criteria, but if it's just the flags that need to be set, I don't see any logical impossibility

43% crit chance atm but keep frequently getting 8-10 casts of no crits
I took Ambush for my clear skill on another character and it made all the difference. I'm surprised at how many of the "Extra damage to full life enemies" nodes are slept on. They give an insane boost to clear.

It scales with skill effect duration, so persistence support would work, along with %inc duration nodes on the tree

I'm struggling making some gear decisions on my on LS Deadeye. I need to decide between 3950 ES + 80 Evasion w 50% chaos res ---- or 3700 ES + 80 Evasion w 71 Chaos res. How should I think of the trade off between 250 ES and 20% chaos
Sorry - I should also mention the 3950 ES comes with nearly 18% DPS increase
I've been feeling really comfortable with 71% chaos and am worried about making the switch down to 50%. Although some guidance I've read is 50% chaos is enough but I'm guessing that is more midgame guidance
From a strictly durability point of view, 71% chaos res is 30% more eHP against chaos than the 50% res with more ES, and chaos is also the most threatening damage type for ES (since you take double chaos). But 3700 should be okay, especially if you can patch up the res later

so assuming you need max charges every 30-40 seconds you can just get electrocute buildup on charged staff as a support
or use profane ritual on corpses but this way you wouldnt get any charges during boss fights

Well, if you're playing Warrior, start with Shockwave Totem until you get Ancestral Totem (then link it to whatever melee skill you want, usually Sunder is pretty good)
If playing Merc, then you still have a wait until you get Artillery (so you still may have to play Shockwave or just Xbow until)
No the ailment hit is based on the pre mitigation damage, so block doesnt even account IIRC
so no use for armour break.

That part where it says skills is just the general description of meta skills. You need to read the specific skill to see what sort of skills can be socketed. In this case it’s only curses and marks.

gemling = +2 levels and 14% quality while tactician is stun/ailment threshold and empowered pin (not sure how good the 30% totem skill speed is with the totems only attack when I'm firing projectiles)
so weve got a ritualist aura bot running over 500 rarity with massive presence and gravebind, i would like to add a tactician bannerbot to the mix for the added movespeed and def, and the extra dmg is never bad
i understand that with both the aura bot and bannerbot running gravebind they will effectively both get credit for the kills, which the bannerbot needs to generate valor, but what rarity will get applied to the kill?
is it necessary for the banner bot to stack rarity as well or will it simply take the higher of the two?

It's not lucky crit, it's lucky damage. That is to say, 30% of the time when the damage is rolled, it will roll twice and pick the higher outcome. This is independent of critical hits, critical damage bonus and similar mechanics.

Does PoB factor a Dualstring Bow as firing x2 projectiles in its DPS calculation, or is it only counting a single arrow? (I ask because if memory serves it doesn't count minions as firing multiple projectiles by default)
In other words... if I have a Dual String that reflects my DPS coming out to 1.5k, but then a Cultist bow that reflects as a significantly higher DPS, can I count on that to be accurate?

Anyone have any tips for armor based builds? Specifically I have like 80% armor reduction and 30% evasion and 50ish block. I'm currently doing ok in Tier 6-7 maps but need to upgrade all my gear. Got plenty of currency, but debating the merits of fully investing in hybrid Armor/evasion or just going all in on armor. I know armor is pretty weak... but not sure if I'm missing anything

no i didnt take them because someone I think here said that +1 poison nodes are not effective during campaign mode.

Rakestomp can kill geonor before the first fog phase with a mediocre spear. I have never seen anything else come close for act 1. It starts to fall off quickly, but it's so absurdly strong in acts 1-2 that it still feels good even in act 3

We're in such vague territory now that everything we're saying is meaningless. Theorycrafting your own build is a risk no matter how you slice it. I never said it was easy, I said I think it's easy. I have a decade of experience making builds in poe1 and I've read every gem in poe2 at least once.
If you read very thoroughly, fiddle with pob, and know the mechanics of poe2, you should be able to make a build that can scale well and get you to endgame

Once you have a grasp of the mechanics, create a skeleton of a build. Nothing super in depth, but just an idea. Then I'd recommend checking out poeninja for inspiration and seeing if anyone else has that same idea. See where they ran with it. See if you can incorporate their ideas into your build.

You take an extra small node in the cluster at the top, but that's all I can see to save a point. Unless you wanna drop a jewel socket 
could drop one in the bow cluster as well, but no clue how important that one would be for your build
i mostly mean directly save. not just shuffle around, just feels so icky having so many sections that are 2 off of connecting lol

I got a question about the execute support gem , it says "Supported skill deal 50% MORE damage with hits against enemies that are on Low Life". If i use Execute on Lighting Warp and use it on a cullable enemy (so, low life) the 50% more damage is calculated just for its damage, or the whole Lighting Warp Area Damage gets the 50% bonus damage ?
I suppose it should be calculated more or less like an aliment, so adding to the damage of THAT enemy not of the whole AoE. But i'm not sure
It checks low life on each target hit, not just the one you actually cast lightning warp on
Yeah, so if LW damage AOE is 100, it stays like that and the 50% more damage is calculated when computing the damage of each enemy

There's a small cluster of nodes that reduces mana costs. If you take the three nodes that reduce mana costs in there, that should be 16% reduced. That's been enough for me

If I have multiple Ancestral Warrior Totem gems equipped, do they each have a separate limit? Same question for Dark Effigy, Ripwire, Ballista, etc.

it seems to me that one has the greatwood support, which limits that skill to only summoning 1, but making it stronger
so one setup has the greatwood setup to make it strong but the other ancestral warrior doesnt
so you get to spam those
does integrated efficiency apply to every skill or just for the skill with the gems? eg if i have 10 red gems to all my skill get 10 red gem bonus or is it a bonus to just a skill for each red gem?

What I mean is, both skills are Ancestral Totem, but in different slots.

you have barely any cold damage to freeze and herald of thunder is level 4 so you are barely electrocuting

why do none of the bleed builds I see have them actually taking any bleed nodes on the tree? Every build I am seeing on POB just has the ailment nodes being taken and then everyone stacking crit.
Because bleed magnitude is based on the damage of the hit that inflicted the bleed. Crits inflict bigger bleeds
Idk how much fire damage Xesht does, but with 69% fire res you're taking 24% more fire damage than if you had 75% fire res

What are some interesting armour breaking tech you guys use? I'm trying to move away from warbringer QoL for scavanged plating. Armour breaker on mace works for bosses ok but does not feel fluid enough for mapping.
rapid assault w/ splinter is pretty bomb. paired with exploit weakness on blood hunt bossing feels good
it is hard to compete with anvil's weight tho
oh I'm very very aware how anvil's weight is op when it comes to armour breaking. I'm a thorns enthusiast and I'm trying to get a bit higher dps and flow on mapping going. Warbringer brings all the QoL but if I can move QoL to other things then maybe I can squeeze some more dps from ascendancy
For thorns currently bleed + poison seems to be the best and easiest way to clear maps. I'm a bit interested in pathfinder with if bleed concoction is strong enough to get map clearing running. Then I can just use armour breaker for bossing

whats the use of weapon specific talent tree points vs just regular points? you get benefit either way i think
some people prefer to weapon swap switching between clear and single target
or use it as a way to start some build for example flicker strike you weapon swap into a sceptre to get skeletons and then sacrifice those with profane ritual and sacrifice buff to get power charges at start of map or during a boss fight
i understand skills on specific weapons, but on the talent tree does it matter if like a block wheel is on weaponset2 instead of just regular points; it wont take effect when you are on weaponset1 (two hand) but it takes effect when its on shield
You only get the effect of the passives while that weapon set is equipped. If you swap to a shield on weapon set 2, your block nodes in your set 1 points don't do anything
I like to use weapon swap points to apply curses. I swap to a staff with lots of cast speed and +level of spells. On the tree I spec into curse magnitude, cast speed, curse duration, skill effect duration, etc
on that case i understand the weapon swap, but on the tree those curse nodes as (regular points) would be the same no?
its not like you have 123 points + 24 weapon specific points, so they are equal

They are the same, but it is possible to allocate the 24 separately between weapon sets. You can have one weapon set invested into Curse magnitude to get the most powerful Curse on the enemy first, then swap to as much damage as possible for your main skill(s).
you can have your like 10 weapon set 1 points on curses, then on weapon set 2 use those 10 points for something else after casting the curse

I did put some increased damage points on weapon set 1 and used their weapon set 2 counterparts for the curses. That made my curses go over 55%....but then i tried blasphemy and died horrably 😭

i have the spirit gem that let me restart my ES recharge for 3.6 seconds on the weapon set 2, and that works pretty well
for spirit gem that are not really "passive bonus" but something that you just use yourself, they work wonders

Well, sort of, but the swap and cast is pretty fast, i never died like that. But its for emergency only, i use it like once every couple maps. But its totally free, apart the skillgem slots

Yesnt, I’m not entirely sure how it works with gamble stock, but you can get items which have a requirement higher level than your character, it’s noticeable especially in the beginning to an act

You can look up the ladder on poe2.ninja and get ideas -- but a lot of people are quite suboptimal so i'd mentally heatmap most of teh top 50 stuff.
and ignore anyone whos dinged 100 because they often meme-ify their build. i did as much on poe1.
Finn for unique is super rare, it's any base unique. If you're aiming for something specific, best chance is to chance orb the white base item
im looking at warbringer ssf build in poe ninja..why they put sunder skill on totem?
So I've been running a shield charge/resonating warbringer and I use leap smash with rally and the endurance recover passives to leap in and out and refill my health bar instantly (and consume the armor break in an AoE so I can cause another armour explosion right after).
I've got tremors and reverbrate on my leap smash right now and I realized there's potential for a super mario bros. build here. >.> I kind of already leap around from pack to pack before hitting resonating shield for half a second to explode them.
Is there a leapsmash/aftershock build out there already if I get bored with beating things to death with my shield?
Anyone done a volcanic eruption build yet? I really miss multi strike. Ive done a path of building skill tree for it but I dont know if its any good.

It should work, as far as I'm aware.
It really depends on what other bonuses your build has.
"Gain as", increased damage, and cast speed are all multiplicative with each other.
So if you have the same amount of each, they're all equally valuable
But if your build has a lot of cast speed and gain as, then a wand with lots of increased damage would suit you best. But that could change if you pick up extra increased damage later on. It's really just a math problem

Class and ascendancy don't tell you much about a build in poe. All classes can use all skills and gear. Ascendancies can be as unimpactful as simply putting different spins on a build, or they can grant certain abilities that the build needs to function.
For that reason, I can't really recommend any class/ascendancy unless I know what build you want to do. But without knowing that, I'll say that chronomancer, pathfinder, gemling, titan, and Smith of Kitava can do pretty much any build. Chronomancer and pathfinder are especially fun, imo. Temporal rift is my favorite skill and it's exclusive to chronomancer. Pathfinder has nodes that make her immune to slows and lessen the movement penalty while using skills which feels so good on any build

It depends on your definition of "work". To me, if an ascendancy class has at least 8 points you can spend that are beneficial to a build, then I say that ascendancy "works".
By my definition, almost all ascendancies work for essence drain/contagion, I'm pretty sure.
Doing a quick check now, I'd say that invoker, deadeye, stormweaver, witchhunter, and amazon are the only five that don't work for a chaos dot build
And even then, Stormweaver works if you can find some way to inflict shocks or chills.
Invoker works if you use a meta gem.
Witchhunter works if you take 20 extra weapon set points, both sorcery ward nodes, and the explodey node
Those witchhunter nodes are all technically usable, but god damn that sounds like a hard combo to make a build out of
deadeye can work if you somehow incorporated frenzy charges into your build

That seems like a complete waste on a lich since their life ascendancy depends on them having energy shield and slowing down the recharge start is bad for that.
Would be better to just get a rare 700+ ES chest with spirit and resists and take zealots oath or recharge on pot notables, imo

when you place the banner it displays a visual indicator of its AoE. percentage modifiers to area of effect can make it larger (e.g. from passives or support gems)

depends on how much convert you have
attack damage will apply to damage from all parts of the skill
lightning damage will apply to the 60% converted from the projectile and all of the beam
physical damage will apply to 40% of the unconverted from the projectile and none of th ebeam
60% light convert to projectile and 100% light convert to chain effect

I prefer eva/es builds, but that would require reworking some core parts to your build. Mainly the helm/focus/chest pieces. Removing the spell damage stuff, going to other crit or physical damage. Personal preference for defensive layers

It's because you have an item that converts some of the Cost to Life, likely Tangletongue.
I'd say they tell you a whole bunch about a build when gear and gems are essentially almost already decided by me like I said. I've gotten very lucky with fire gear specifically caster based gear
I appreciate it though. But I did ask very generally because I have a good grasp of the gear choices but wanted a suggestion for what will essentially be a throw away character after I get them to end game and try a few pinnacles for fun 
I just feel like not using this fire gear would be a waste.
I play Caster base classes far too often. So not using sorceress or witch seemed fun. Sorry if I wasn't super clear on the fact I just kind of wanted an off meta suggestion for the class ascendancy combo to just try to make work with fire.

like im using this staff which gurentees i get half the energy refunded but if thats the case does it make energy retention useless?

i mean id imagine it would since theres no shot u can refund 50% and then another 35% on top of it
but that also means energize tree and energy retention work slightly worse together than youd think
