its possible that a frenzy barrage build would make some boss fights slightly faster.... but some not... i tried it and it didn't work out... but maybe later

impale should work with bleed by this wording, correct:
since bleed only cares about the pre mitigation damage
when you say work with.. do you mean can have an impale and a bleed? yes
but bleed is not a "hit" so it won't extract the impale

if you impale then extract then the debuff is removed
i think you have to "meet" the npcs before they appear in your hideout

Hi guys! I would really appreciate some help understanding how to balance survivability on a pure dexterity character. I've really been enjoying my Huntress build because it does a ton of damage, but she's been dying a lot because she's just got a bunch of evasion and so when a couple hits eventually break through, she just pops. So, what do evasion based builds need in order to survive? (besides just stacking a metric crapton of the stat, of course).
Here's what I do know: resistances should be maxed, and stacking life is important. I can parry things with my shield and dodge roll to evade big hits. My main issue is when there's a lot of chaos on the screen and I get hit by a random AOE or when I get an unlucky roll and something breaks through my evasion rating.
If there's a guide anyone can point me to or something, that would be great. Evasion characters have always given me the ick because of the whole RNG based nature of it all, but I'm forcing myself to learn it because throwing lightning spears is pretty cool.
you can probably splash a little ES and run ghost dance
What is ghost dance?
I run my huntress with Evasion/ES and ghost dance.. and it's way more survivable
the unique chests are also a good option it looks like
ghost dance is an alteranative to wind dancer

Right now it's just an Amazon with a bunch of fun lightning skills. I just beat the campaign and I'm looking at about 77% evasion rn

I just don't think I have enough evasion to justify it

wind dance + ghost dancer + ES(or may be even CI) is really good survivability
and we even have that buff to "insta recharge" ES now, so there is that too
So, if I use ghost dancer and atziri's helmet, should I switch all my armor pieces to hybrid ES/evasion or still go mostly evasion?
i personally have never liked evasion overall.. because it's very RNG... you could evade 5 hits and the 6th could be big enough to 1 shot you
that's why you go big ES, like 12k big at least
That's exactly why I've never gotten far with most dex characters lmao. I mostly play witch/sorceress (in both poes)
You want to gert enough ES that you have a "buffer" for ghost dancer to work on... but ghost dance scales with evasion, so you still want mostly evasion
and now you can't be oneshotted
...so yes on all hybrid then 👀

yeah, there are different ways to do it.. you can go big ES, which is more dex/int... like a monk typically does...
or you can go mostly evasion, with say 1/3 as much ES as health.. and the ES is just a bit of "buffer" ontop of your health that helps let your health recharge.. that's more how i run my ranger
so like with 30k eva 1500 ES is bare minimum
though i've seen many rangers with no ES... not sure how they make it work exactly before acro

I'm looking for two different build, one tanky defence reflect focused , or mage type preferably with ice theme. Simple mechanic builds as i'm old and slow.
But I've only just started mapping so I suppose that's fine. Are there any other notable boosts to evasion rating that I should know about? Points on the passive tree maybe?

@sweet cargo amazon also has nodes to let life leech work on elemental dmg.. so it's pretty viable to focus on evasion, strength/health, and lifeleech (i think, im not there yet)

basically it say to you "man, go mantle of flame"
up to 50% phys to fire damage convertion is best way to deal with phys atm
also, if you have not already.. typicaly when you get lots of points in the tree... you can switch the base nodes near your start away from dmg (to attributes, or evasion)
(second best to just have so much pool you really don't care)
there is diminishing return for "increased dmg" nodes. beacuse when you have 300% increased dmg, getting 30% more is only adding 10% more

I think the diminishing returns would also apply to the Savagery node you posted
or 2 small nodes in good cluster
yes, diminishing returns applies to everything "increased" .... but to get high evasion you need to combine high flat evasion with high increased (i don't believe there is any "more" evasion)

very good the only thing it doesn't have is increased elemental dmg... which is not as much an issue for most builds

if something walks on burning ground, it burns without being ignited
and if smth is ignited isn't not burning?
i think ignite counts as burning, but not all burning counts as ignited

i run a mix of evasion, and evasion ES
rake/stomp is nice because stomp support scales based on your strength.. so your weapon is irrelevant and it does ALOT of dmg

ya, you can do that.. i preferd running whirl+tornado+autos mostly in low levels, and then i threw rake/stomp in there situationally because @carmine flicker convinced me to try it out

the additional arrow is absolutely huge, but it depends if you are capping out your poisons or not
a mix of toxic growth and poison both but mainly poison burst,i have 8 stacks of poison rn
also this update will fix toxic growth with overburdence

yeah.. if you hold alt on a skill in the passive tree, you can see what it takes to annoint it onto an amulet.. then you can take it without pathing to it (does NOT work on the big notable nodes)

i wouldn't worry about anointing until you are doing T8-T10 maps... you need to farm the essence mats to do it
is the power rating sort by anoint not in pob2 yet?
i was thinking maybe the one that makes the poison effect stonger for unpoisoned enemies, but thats only cause its in a REALLY weird spot

Checking poe2ninja, why are there people going lightning spear with twister. Also some of their builds don't even include a way to get elemental ground effects.
i don't get lighting spear with twister either...... i think people have trouble finding an elemental ground effect before they can get frostbolt later.... I used quarterstaff frozen locus before frostbolt
my guess would be no.... that the shocked ground would not be reflected to you.. but youd have to test
Well, the site also lists what skills and gems they are using. There's no frostbolt or waking destruction boots. Nothing. It's just lightning spear, whirling slash, and twister.

So I'm actually making a focused Companion Lich build as a response to companion question. Had to really do research on the database to understand stuff though. Going to end up doing Yriel's Fostering for the double companion. Goal is to go Poison Lightning with Lich Unholy Might node for Lightning Storm, Always Poison, Extra Crit on the Major damage dealer. Gilded Beetle for support Companion.
there are ways to use lighting spear to shock, and for shock to cause shocked ground, and then you'd have your element, no?
@hidden hill it there a way to speed up compansions? i saw someone with a beetle companion and it was so slow
So functionally, not really. But, that's not really what you want them for anyways.

The Lightning storm can hit almost at screen edge, but its a really wierd affect. The big thing about Companions that people are sleeping on is that they can pull the huge Spirit cost spectres as percentage cost themselves rather than direct costs. What this allows is some of the 100+ spectres with huge base damage multis.
If you have the Sacrifical Lamb Gem on a minion an all of that kind are dead atm, it somehow seems to me that Pain Offering doesn't chose another minion then? Am i wrong there?

looking at its poedb page now it seems good
So some spectres have upward costs of 150+. So something you really wouldn't want more than one of. However, those spectres have crazy base damage multipliers which DO affect the Lightning Storm and any abilities they have. Crested Behemoth which is my endgame base goal for this has a 3.38 base damage multiplier for instance. Compared to my current Quadrilla's flat 2.
Unfortunately, I'll be looking once I hit level 52. Took awhile to really find a good base rare to carry me in Act 3. Ended up settling for Quadrilla+ Skeletal Frost mages.
i just went with quadrilla for campaign as support because of the ease in resetting it

I spent about an hour trying to find just 1 rare Drudge Osseodon and just ended up giving up.
Since the Drudge is one of the highest base multpliers outside of Trial of Chaos.
Anything in Chaos Trials is gonna actually end up being easier to get mods on though. Since Lethal Rares adds mods for free if you can roll it during a run.

Can twisters chain? Or does it do nothing for it?
Functionally, as tooltips read, it should as Skill Speed traditionally is additive to attack speed/cast speed so it really depends on when it calcs the cost. It might be a novel workaround, but without the specifics of the formula we'll likely require personal experimenting.

the idea is, with enough evasion you should only get hit every once and a while
so you need a buffer for that big hit, plus enough evasion to not get hit often
at low levels you can use ghost dance and some ES

im using some ES with my huntress spear
it really depends, if you can get some life leech, you can get away with just lifepool
its just usually harder to get good liferegen early, so es recharge works better until ~40
though honestly, the best way to make this less an issue is to kill things faster...

i dont know the details... but with bosses the idea is not to get hit
with evasion lowering boss attack speed is not that amazing.... evasion defenses are designed to avoid most hits... but you are going to get hit at some point and you need to survive it
When I ran witchbane+no mercy, its effects were absolutely negligible, I just treat it as a 40% damage amp
It was relatively funny watching general mobs just stand there and not cast their abilities but vs bosses i didnt feel it

600 strength being 200% attack damage which is a little lower then most abilities

Hi all - Quick question, when i last played the game in 0.1 the plasma bolt skill on the xbow when supported with scattershot used to fire 3 shots one after another ( like High velocity round - like pew pew pew) now it fires 3 in a cone. Is that a change in 0.2 or is the skill bugged ? I loved my plasma bolt build in 0.1 and thought with crossbows a bit buffed it would be fun again but this 3 in a cone sucks 😦

base damage is based off your weapon
your weapon damage plus the damage increase

Im at act 3 Cruel and i find storm mages to be faster han vaal guards. Vaal guards have some ramp up before they do dmg. Perhaps in maps u you need more DPS and it is better there?

- 20% increased st while on full life doesn't care about ES at all
so with 1k/1k it's 400 ST while full life even with 0/1000 ES
i wish ST showed up on character sheet

Hi guys I am new to building and stuff and even newer to warrior. I see a lot of people running Giant's Blood with a off hand shield, my question is why exactly do people use shields and seems to favor block chance, are people choosing shields for stats or do they actively block attacks on endgame?

Shields grant passive block chance that is independent of the raise shield ability. They just block a % of all strikes and projectiles

the reason rake is popular for smith is because you mainly are scaling strength, whereas with twister youd probably want some frenzy charges, lots of attack speed, maybe some proj dmg, which is all on the bottom right quadrant

I mean the usual ones in PoE1 like Freezing Pulse Totems, Holy Flame Totem, Arc Totems, Ballista builds, etc.
I know there’s a skill called Ancestral Warrior Totem, but it doesn’t really work the same way as those old-school totem builds from PoE1, right?

3: If the answer to 1 is any monster, is anything about Tame Beast (which specifies Rare Beasts) better than Bind Spirit to make it worth the higher stat investment? (level 9 skill gem int instead of level 7 dex/can be subbed with unique gloves for str)

sometimes its quicker to just do some spear throws instead of winding up the twister machine again

espec running salvo on twister sometimes you get unlucky and they all fly backwards away from your target lol so spear throw just nice to fit in some single target dmg when its ultimately necessary
1: Any regular monster (ie not a boss), but they don't keep their mods even if you target a magic or rare.
2: Depends on the enemy, you will see them above the corpse when you're binding the Spectre.
3: Tame Beast keeps up to 4 rare mods on the Beast, whereas Spectres lose all the mods. Therefore, if you manage to get a Beast with 4 of the affixes that you want - various auras to buff you and heal you, for instance - then it can be a much bigger help than a random Spectre.

Part of that tooltip is a lie, by the way. "Totems are not minions."
What that should say is "Minion buffs don't apply to totems," because if you try to socket a Dark Effigy (Spell, Totem, not a minion) into cast on minion death (or cast on anything) the game won't let you... even though it's not a minion. ;_;

Hi there, quick question. Can I use concoction skills without equip bow and quiver, like use spear and shield instead.
Dark Effigy isn't a Spell, directly, though, it's a Totem that casts a Spell. I don't believe Cast on X allows you to summon Totems.
No ascendancy skills require you to have a specific weapon equipped. Concoction skills don't use your weapon anyway, but are Unarmed and will switch to an Unarmed weapon set to be used, so your primary weapon set doesn't matter.
You need to be unarmed
Cast on X specifically disallows minion skills, which Totems explicitly are not. 😄 I 100% believe your reading is correct but that's not what it says.
Also, dark effigy is actually tagged as a spell, and is affected by spell support gems.
Because then you're supporting the Spell that Dark Effigy casts, not because the Totem itself is a Spell.
They now require being unarmed, meaning you can only have a shield equipped. This also means auras like all heralds and even wind dancer cannot be used while using concoction skills
Quivers might still work? But you’d be sacrificing one of your very limited defensive options for some more dps.

I could see this take but then why tag the totem itself with the spell tag? It's a little confusing and unintuitive (every other skill has sub-tabs that detail what kind of effects they are).
I was also using a warbringer with ancestral call, so creating my totems created minions that would trigger cast on minion death... 😄 but I couldn't socket a totem in there to make it self-sustaining... because you can't socket totems in meta skills. <---- Which is what i wish the tooltip said, since totems aren't minions.
I know you aren't GGG, just think I shouldn't have to know a 10 year lexicon from the prequel to understand that even though totems aren't minions meta skills treat them like they are. (and even though they say they're spells they aren't.)
That's not tool-tipped anywhere in the game.
Placing the totem is not a spell in itself, which is why you do not get cast speed to place it faster. Moreso a technicality that isnt explicitly stated

Yeah but a warbringer with a high enough level/intelligence/gear to socket cast on minion death when you're already stacking armor/evade/Iron Reflexes is a pretty heavy testing investment since you can't re-select an ascendancy.
esp since you have to main str for mace totems 🙂

I'd assume there's nothing preventing it from happening, but I don't recall specifically running into one with multiple auras either, so I can't say for sure. im almost certain particular monster mods cannot exist simultaneously, e.g. cant have shocked and burning ground simultaneously (that one I'm certain of)
so I wouldnt be surprised if only one aura is allowed

In the spires of Deshar there's these beasts that hang down off the walls and then jump around like kangaroos to hit you in the face.
They're pretty beefy, I imagine they make great tanking minions if you can direct them to steal boss aggro, b/c the boss gotta chase the kangaroo all over the screen to hit it.
They're probably not beasts, though. they look like it. Haven't found any rare ones.

I think some rares are actually untameable as well, for example the purple chaos dot plant thats always guaranteed to spawn at the special part of Chimeral Wasteland is untameable
If that's the case, then the Ninth Treasure probably isn't tameable either.

Each particular beast has a fixed cost as a percentage of your spirit, for example Quadrillas are 43.2% or something like that
so every quadrilla will be that same % cost

Based on other wording I'm almost certain it basically means that it has a different name
e.g. the Companion keystone that allows you to have +1 companion is worded as "different types" and for Tame Beast, it only disallows you to summon two different beasts of the same name
theres niche scenarios where different spectres can have the same name, though, like for example theres 4 specifically different types of "Vaal Guard" and in that specific case I have no clue what happens

You cut a gem called Tame Beast and use it on a rare beast type monster and it gives it a debuff where if it dies with the debuff on it becomes fixed into that particular gem and the gem becomes a pokeball basically

Not sure which you're referring to but there's several wolf beast types in act 1
they just have to be rare (Yellow name) for them to be tameable
basically you'd be finding a zone with that monster type in it and reloading until you find a rare version of that specific monster you want
How can we improve the frenzy uptime powered by electrocute? I have seen videos where lightning spear was tossed without frenzy charges and then gain charges reliably.
just by increasing electrocute buildup - theres also some chance involved in maintaining a higher number of them without being Deadeye
but if youre reliably electrocuting enough then youll satisfy Combat Frenzy's trigger (ideally on cooldown)

if you hypothetically hit for 100 damage then you get 50% gain as fire from that effect so you'd deal 100 phys and 50 fire, so the ignite would pull the 50 fire to determine its magnitude

twister is always mostly phys, lightning ground effect from my quadrilla gives it 50% gain as lightning
well you could have twister be all lightning if you used an all lightning damage weapon base
but that wouldn't get the 50% bonus
some people use wake of destruction boots for lightning ground

yes it would, there's nothing specifying it has to be physical damage to get the gain damage %

endgame... well.... it's hard to judge, there were big nerfs there, so people really need to "re-enter" the campaign without gear to truly judge it
@sturdy compass i personally prefer using a hybrid whirl+twister with rake/stomp build.... but ive come to see that pure rake/stomp/strength-stack is probably faster

Elemental Infusion charges cant be used with melee attacks at all, even if they have the projectile tag
so the melee tag invalidates it

All that matters is that the infusions only work on projectiles from non-melee attacks
since it specifically specified non-melee in the description

@sturdy compass when i have a few minutes, ill do a very quick act 1 start and check and see if there are any particular skills/supports you should use.. but i think mostly you will just use rake/stomp strength-stack, disengage (just in case), ghost dance or wind dancer (For some defense) .. and then just hold down the rake button
it really help that str stack give defence(life) by itself

if you do simple and strong (or broken, depends on perspective) things like rake or whirwild or w/e then you will have easy time
but if you will try to do whole parry/melee/range/repeat routine you will have rough time

there is no middle ground with rake/stomp
either you go full str stack and forget dex exist and never raise rake past lvl 3..
or you lose damage, and lots of it

the upsides of ritualist require investment, unlike Amazon since accuracy is basically free candy in poe 2

Ritual Sacrifice doesn't work most of the time...Animation plays out, but no buff is given. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't give you its modifiers.

as smith str stack I went only for best nodes since I really didn't mind traveling all across the tree
each +5 str node is +20-30 base damage to my rake anyway

Is knockback from projectile always "away" from the player? Specifically in the case in which a proj chains off terrain and hits a monster in the back, does it get knocked away from the projectile or the player

I just think that ritualist is VERY gear dependent to be strong
it's GREAT with GGG rings and amulet
and really sad panda with bad ones
ritualist is a specialist spec that takes a very particular build idea to really sing.. like bloodmage
so you probably will have better luck with "cheap to gear" char to farm currency for ritualist
bloodmage in act 2 is quite literally 100x easier to kill bosses if you dont spend any ascendancy points, because sanguimancy does more self-damge to you in a boss fight than the boss does...... you are better off waiting until you have 2nd ascendancy before you spend any ascendancy points
but then lategame bloodmage pays off
and even with 4 points it's barely better than without them
with health costs
on my bloodmage, jamara killed me 3 times with sanguimancy.. i unspeccted it and i easily killed him with 100% health left and most of my flask charges.. it was absolutely stupid
(well really it was me killing me, not jamara)
meanwhile first 4 points on smith give you "lol you are res capped, oh, and take 25% phys damage as fire, so phys-damage-proof too"
