I don't know why, but I feel like it's impossible for me to build a gemling that's equally good at doing damage and surviving. Astramentis almost feels mandatory for gemling to be good, unless I am just not building right. And that's something I'll never attain. I took the quarterstave route for my gemling

but im pretty sure that elemental pen is probably the last bit of calculation for all mechanics involved including elemental ailment threshold

if you have the spare gold and a skill that freezes

you could always go grab a few point, hit something withice, and repeat without the pen nodes

Demon form has pretty much infinite potential and even with only moderate investment can one shot every single boss in the game.

Right now if you want to make the initial swap, make sure you can get life regen on at least 4-5 pieces of gear and u need at least tattered robe to drop ur life as low as possible. Goal rn would be to get to 20-30 stacks so u can use it to blast bosses
