Just in general the leech means you want more physical damage and there's a lot more good physical options on bow/crossbow compared to quarterstaff. Also, attacking from range lets you keep your leech up better, no downtime moving into melee and can avoid ground degens better. For poisons you still want a hard hitting skill since you'll only get 3 stacks, and high velocity hits very hard vs armor broken target so you can have a second skill you use to armor break and poison with corrosion support and then you shoot them with high velocity to apply a huge poison.

all poison skills in the game currently, there's not lot to work with
most of those aren't poison skills
any chaos or phys dmg hit skill can be a poison skill
all phys skills can poison
all chaos skills can poison

im pretty sure hexblast poison is going to pop right the fuck off but someone else needs to figure it out
the skills that "make a poison cloud" are probably just area chaos dots and don't actually apply the poison ailment

evasion is one of those defensive stats that doenst really shine until you have a HUGE amount of it

If one node says you cant be hit and another just gives 100% extra evasion for not getting hit, and theres a bunch of those around. It feels pretty busted

I think the point of the new passive tree is that you can have a terrible tree
but ofc endgame it will all be lvl 20 uncut gems
and just get all your damage from gear

I really love how the merc looks and probably plays(also the idea of a machine gun and grenades are really cool) but the ascendancies looks very general purpose and I'm afraid I might mess up something trying to build it properly
Pathfinder is the obvious backup choice for me since I always wanted to play a poison build in poe1 but couldn't because I'd always mess it up
