I'd maybe even recommend using ED+contagion and weapon swapping to a bow and using vine arrow, perhaps

spamming more EDs does not stack the DoT

I personally just put up Contagion then used Essence Drain. If you're having trouble landing Essence Drain on the enemy with Contagion, then sure, try Chain. Maybe it'll bounce the way you want.

If you want to manually switch, you can bind the weapon swap button to whatever button you wish.

I guess that's ok for that level. Hard to pin down why a build is doing low damage because there are so many moving parts. Gem config, passives, the rest of your gear. Are you using skills that synergize with each other?

Rares tend to net out better than magic simply due to 6 vs 2 affixes. But if those 6 mods are useless and badly rolled compared to 2 good affixes on magic, I'd use the magic.

The water just gets converted to keys which let you open more chests. So it's a risk/reward situation. Spend water on the run to make it easier or save it for more keys at the end
