ahhh weird, I had the same issue but when I put an actually spell in it worked. (also check if maybe you have frost barrier active and that is taking spirit?) [also if you have any support gems that increase spirit cost as well]

I got lucky with +all skill on weapon amulet and helmet, and the curse + offerings make the SRS supercharged, and make sure whatever fire spells you're using, you're quickly getting to 10 SRS.

Not really. Strength is HP and INT is mana. Many useful ranger skills will require some int or some strength. It's a balancing act. You can always respec those points later using gold anyway. Gold is easier to get at higher levels too

Better to disenchant. You can disenchant magic (blue) items to get Transmutation Shards. Combining 10 of them makes one Orb of Transmutation (turns normal rarity item to magic rarity).
You can disenchant rare (yellow) items to get Regal Shards. Combining 10 of them makes one Regal Orb (magic rarity item to rare quality).

Sell for gold if you need to get back passive skill points.
