I think its balanced for newer/mobile/console players to not have to buy one from the shop before stopping an egg break scenario. Also, ancient debris isn't that expensive, compared to what obsidian used to cost. Use it to block yourself in so anyone who hasn't invested in diamond+ pickaxe can't reach you by the time you break an egg.
