If you set a decent size square with fence around it and just put hoppers as the floor and just stay in or around that area with them and all the eggs they lay go in the chest I got my eggs fast doing it that way

With the snow golem and skeleton and with the iron golem (you'll have to kill one in one of the main quests) it's easy to just build a room with them with one block missing down by there feet so you can hit them yet an then they can't attack you

Only way to apply boosters are through the Optimiser either in the hub or once unlocked to purchase in the shop. Bonemeal like lou said can be crafted into White dye, make bone blocks or to add grass and single flowers on a grass block (purely decorational). Tall flowers unlock from doing side quests after unlocking Swamp (island 9)

Speaking from experience and having already used alot of coloured blocks for builds can be useful but is mainly for people in the end game that have unlocked all the overworld islands and want to make it look pretty
