To answer your question and clarify: utilise more spawnspace (mobs cant spawn on air so use smth like water, open fencegates, signs, blocks, etc). Their spawnradius is 9x3x9 the more u fill of it the faster theyll spawn.
Activation radius for spawners is 32 blocks horizontally, if the player is within that the spawners actually spawn. Pay attention tho, for hostile mobs if you are further away than 127 blocks VERTICALLY, they despawn instantly.

Depending on how u set it up make sure u close off the top so the toughs don't jump out...

Only downside... is that when u kill them and they split into little ones they can escape through the walls and get let loose

Same happens when people try to automate them in the overworld with cactus

Magmas/Slimes are a pain

Slimes at least take fall dmg

No but depending on how tall the walls are they may be able to jump on top of other magmas and escape

Toughs can jump up to 4blocks high

Looting will also speed that quest up if u alternate between killing the main slime with sharpness and the medium slime with looting and littles with sharpness
