I remember that there is another one of these quests where you had to kill certain mobs under a particular affect (pretty sure it was regen or resistance) had to eat a gold apple before each kill and the affect only lasted 3 seconds

If you want to make a gradient type thing I think cracked stone brick, cobble stone, andesite, grey or light gray powdered concrete, bone block, snow would be good

As for just building the same grey/light gray powdered stone, bone block, diorite, andesite, some leaves, and spruce saplings. Make the brick mossy brick near leaves and cracked blocks scattered nearby if it’s a wall and create a hole. Tells a story

Don’t forget to use layered snow to have more depth as well
