Im so done with spawners, when will there be a discription in what spawners need to work properly, i made a fall damage farm and its not working, im new dont have much material, getting iron was a headache and i build the farm for 2 h hours now, just for it to not work (not to mention counting the blocks is a pain in the ahh bc this server didnt allow coords. I mean its not so hard to include a description for the envivroment of spawners r, right? Just include it in the NBT data and done. Im so close to quitting

Spawners: I have an Issue with my spawner . I have build a chamber with 9x9 x and z in the middle was a 2x2 hole with opend fence gates wich lead like 32 blocks down for fall damage. The spawners had 3 blocks distance above the fencegates. In evry 4 corners was a watersource ending perfectly before the middle hole. As a lil extra aginst spiders i had added 8 waterlogged cobblestairs facing the hole. The rest of the flor was of upper cobblestairs to limit material cost,roof was too. Walls were Cobblestoneblocks. Above the spawners was a 2x2 pillar of woodenfeces. This worked perfectly fine. ----Today i got iron and more zombie spawners and finished some wool challenges. So get rid of the spider spawners and lets add the brand new zombie spawners, they get me more money anyways. Lets just quickly adjust the height of the spawners. So i thought------ So i broke up the roof of the old farm , took the water(logged)sources, spawner and fences out and build the EXCAT same set up maybe like 30-40 blocks higher. Big mistake! suddenly there were issues i never had before: First nothing spawned, odd i thought, so i counted block for block, looked at each block if i did something different, replaced the watersources,replaced the spawners, even lokked if i had accedently put a full block out of 2 slabs. NOTHING. So i took the fences away, slowly spawend ONE SINGLE mob, and then more. Ok THIs is the issue, i thought, thenn ill just use slabs on top of the spawner 🙂 Nothing spawned anymore , never again. I wondered.. is it maybe the height of the spawner . So i tried 1 lower, 1 higher, with slabs and with fences and without , i had all the issues as before. Ok so it MUst be the block were they spawn on? tried putting fence gates one and/or 2 blocks lower NOTHING , same as before. Is it the Server? left and got on a couple times. Then i put fences on top again, suddenly some zobies spawned, FINALLY i thought. but then they spawned IN the fences and ON the SpAwne

Then i went through EVERY Source online i could find, CC SB Forum, The Wiki, and some other sides and everyone tells different on how spawners work, some say 2 blos under the spawner , some say 3.some say 3 radius horizontal, some say 4 or 5 . There was even someone mentioning a bug in 128 blocks height (since 1.20)but i dont now if they mean where u stand from or if they mean Y128 . But what i dont understand is that my Block-for-Block copied farm, even in the same chunk doesnt work anymore( doesnt matter if i am 120 or 2 blocks away).

i even put the spawner ion the ground and it worked, but as soon i put a slab it stopped

ok i figures away around the problem ,but the thing itself is still not solved. so odd. So to all having a similar problem: cover the top of the spawner with any stone wall and place signs where u want ur mobs to spawn, mobs fall right through but detect it as block to spawn on, so as long as you dont have mobs like blazes or spiders, you dont even need water

yup this is all known and very intended behaviour, any block (collision or no collision) will let mobs spawn

open fence gates, signs, buttons, a few others

simple solution is to just put the spawners in the floor of the water way

no hassle needed for any of it
