Personally I wouldn't make a massive carrot farm. I would stick to melons.

The open gates allow for pigs to spwn but they do not have a hit box so the pigs fall, catch on fire which is kept on top of signs and fall to death

Thwres a particular way to plant the melons which promotes the growth of 3 melons per stem

And placed in an interlocketing formation like mine it leads to clean easy diagonal harvesting and is probably the most compact melon farm

Theres no need for water since the stem never has to be removed

Generally the melon plants want to drop in the direction of the desert island. Lets call it north. If ypu have planks in that direction then it will keep trying to but wont be able to so it drops in the other 3 directions instead and the stem automatically detaches from the melon starting the timer again withough harvesting

as a temporary workaround i've been going back to the main lobby about once every 15 minutes and its hard saved the progress so far, that way you dont lose anything
